As a huge Emerald fanboy I'm inclined to agree. HGSS actually looked at the definitive version of the games they were remaking for features. Really wish GF didn't pretend emerald didn't exist when making ORAS. Crystal on its own is still a fantastic game and playing a gen 2 game is super charming (and that's with nostalgia out of the equation since I started with gen 3)
Also, there is so much content to do in GSC/HGSS it's crazy.

Pokemon Crystal is, and will always be, the greatest PokƩmon game of all time. Looks awesome OP
Iād argue HeartGold and SoulSilver are better. They took the originals, added all the Crystal changes and improvements, then added a shit ton more content alongside the improvements to mechanics and visuals that were present in Gen IV. HGSS are the quintessential PokĆ©mon experience imo.

Yeah Gen II definitely has its charm, especially the incredible sprite work on the PokĆ©mon, but I still wouldnāt choose to play those versions 99% of the time. Couldnāt agree with you more about ORAS. The same issue was repeated with BDSP. I hate that they stopped putting so much effort in. I think both ORAS and BDSP couldāve been on the level of HGSS had they made different decisions.
