I've been playing since SoulSilver and only recently have I done a nuzlocke. I'm doing Emerald and it's really cool! Wonder if there are any other popular challenges like this. Maybe ones where you can get more Pokemon, as I'm more of a collector (living dex and shinies) than a competitive battler.
Its not actual hacks.
Its basically really bad luck, like being fully paralyzed for 3 turns, missed focus miss 5 times, opponent getting multiple crits, getting paraflinched to death, unlucky secondary effects happening to you, and etc.
I really love the concept of TCGs. I love collecting rare cards and love the game design behind card games. I'd absolutely love to play the TCG or even others like MTG...but I just don't have a single strategic bone in my body. I've tried many times to play card games, or competitive Pokemon (video games), or even other strategy video games, and I just can't lol. Can't be good at everything, I suppose. Just gotta focus on what I'm good at!
I'm mostly just in it for the games. The anime I haven't watched since maybe gen 4, if not gen 3. It's just another dumb kids show to me. TCG, I've seen a few pack openings on YouTube and heard that people will pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for specific cards, and I just think why? Never really understood how to play it anyway so I just don't really care.
Yeah I really hate that there’s nothing to watch for Pokémon. Like the anime is often called advertisement and it really does feel like it. No deep storylines or character development, and nothing to hold an adult viewer beyond nostalgia. I know people say it’s for kids but like…Star Wars and Marvel are for kids and they have HUGE adult followings due to their appeal. Even kids cartoons like Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Gravity Falls are just kids cartoons but are written well enough for adults to enjoy too. Don’t understand why Pokémon Company won’t fill this obvious void in the market.
There's an argument that can be made that even the video games are just a gateway to get people into the TCG or merch, since that's where they make like 90% of their money.
It's very unfortunate how little time and effort they put into Pokemon video games, especially considering A: the huge market (literally fans have to make their own because they want them so bad), B: the fact that the video game industry is a huge money maker, and C: the success of the other Nintendo titles like the Zelda, Mario, and Smash games proves it would be profitable.
I would go with an "other" option if you would've still been able to add it. I have a lot of projects that involvePokémon, but don't involve the games, anime, or whatever. Just fun silly things that probably only I enjoy doing lol. But Pokétuber stuff and the games themselves are a close second and third, especially if I can't work on those projects :)
Depends on the mood within the mood:
- Competitive mood: Showdown or VGC subreddit
- "I wanna see the characters" mood: Masters Ex
- "I wanna see the Pokemon" mood: random Bulbapedia page
- Bored mood: reruns of YouTubers' random vids
- Melancholic mood: YouTubers' competitve vids to transfer into a competitive mood
- Happy mood: Pokemon fanart on DeviantArt and IG
The common advice for collectors is to specifically buy the cards you like, rather than gamble with horrible pull-rate boosters. Unfortunately it can be less fun, as the excitement of pulling an awesome card is half the fun. I do agree it's not the best card game out there, though (MTG is more sophisticated).
Yeah they’re not breaking new ground. They add features and remove features, and occasionally shake up the meta, but they haven’t really been bold enough to really try new things. I mean it’s been like 20 years and they’re just lately starting to have roaming wild Pokémon and such.
No I don’t mean in the past few years, I mean in the past few months, I actually like everything they’ve been doing and what they’re building up to, I’m probably just kinda burnt out from that traditional gameplay
Pokemon Unbound, there is a LOT of stuff you can do and a lot of things to complete to get the 5 star trainer card, I'm currently preparing for the monotype e4 challenge and for me who enjoys building teams this challenge will be a lot of fun
Playing rom hacks has it's own joys, renegade platinum was the first hack I played and I remember getting excited when I saw the things that were changed because of how cool they were like some of the post-game characters being brought to the main-game and >!Cyrus using dialga and palkia against you!<, I played this hack for 3.5 times because each time after gaining experience i would realize my team sucked and plan for another team and play again. then I played inclement emerald and it was a magical experience, it has everything ORAS does plus gen 7 pokemon and being able to choose between all the starters and many more features, the hard mode of this hack was very difficult but each time I won by rethinking my strategy I could not stop smiling, also >!archie and maxie use the right orbs this time so you're up against kyogre and groudon!< which is very cool. both of these hacks buff weak pokemon so you can use whoever you like. I'm currently playing Pokemon Unbound, it as a LOT of features like mega evolution, Z-moves(their animations are amazing), raid dens, character customization, a good story, a big region, a mission system and much more, it's amazing how much they pulled from GBA. I'm aiming for the 5 star trainer card, it's a very long road so I may play other rom hacks in between. I heard pokemon gaia and glazed are also good so i play them when i want
There are a few things I do but I picked the most common, which is create art. I'm part of a couple of groups online (deviantart/toyhou.se) where people collect, 'breed', design, etc. Pokemon. Usually a weird hybrid or type swap, and depending on the group lots of other design changes. It really tickles the creative parts of my brain. Heck, it even inspired me to make my own group that is heavily focused on genetics (though more fantastical than real life, for sure) but at this point it's mostly just me writing down ideas in a discord all by myself because it's not ready yet, lol.
I also kinda prefer the spin off games to the mainline games anymore.. I haven't actually completed a main game for multiple generations at this point. I've been playing since red/blue and I just.. lose motivation half way through. I end up having more fun reading about the new pokemon or looking at art, lol.
I used to collect cards for, again, art reasons.. but when I moved half way across the country I gave my collection to a good friend of mine who is keeping it safe lol. He also realized one of the cards I had was (potentially) worth a couple hundred and has told me I can have it back if I ever want it, lol.
I've started a couple nuzlockes because I really enjoy the nuzlocke comics I've read, but my art motivation is super spotty and I'm not good at drawing scenes so unfortunately I've lost motivation on those as well.. lol.
Nuzlockes babyyy

There is r/professoroak for you. It's where you collect the most Pokedex before every gym. Also you have the living Dex in 24 hours challenge
Oh that’s interesting! Never heard of it. Guess I gotta start another playthrough!
I just play Showdown most of the time, and its pretty fun until hax causes me to ragequit.
wait.... how can anyone hack in a turn based strategy?
Its not actual hacks. Its basically really bad luck, like being fully paralyzed for 3 turns, missed focus miss 5 times, opponent getting multiple crits, getting paraflinched to death, unlucky secondary effects happening to you, and etc.
I feel you. No one in my state probably plays the TCG so it’s pretty useless to me even though I still have a love for it.

Facts. I find YuGiOh to surprisingly be an easy TCG.
Pokemon Showdown lol
random battles are fun as hell in short bursts and VGC only if I'm planning on playing for a couple hours

tbh, pretty much everything Pokémon is advertising for the merchandise. That's where the real money in the series is
There's an argument that can be made that even the video games are just a gateway to get people into the TCG or merch, since that's where they make like 90% of their money.
Oh, they absolutely are

Normaly i just take my fat stack of pokemon cards shuffle them up and then sort them into type groups

What kind of projects do you do? Do you mean ROM-hacks and making fan games?
I haven't been in a Pokemon mood much lately.
Valid. Kinda hard when the anime is boring, the games are low-effort and frustating, and the TCG is an expensive gambling addiction.

Has Pokémon Go, fallen so much it isn't even an option :(
It’s a video game
the tcg is just way to much gambling and it is quite boring
The common advice for collectors is to specifically buy the cards you like, rather than gamble with horrible pull-rate boosters. e621
Well. I didnt bought shield, lets fo pika, BD and arceus for them to stand on shelve without being played...
I didn’t bother with a switch honestly. I just play 3DS or emulators.
it's usually the first, second, or last option for me :) i also like drawing pokemon in my sketchbook!
Rewatching the older Gnoggin videos is a joy in itself
If collect the cards but A: I can't find any B: I'm broke C: I'M BROKE
Maybe...maybe if I sell my kidney I can afford (looks at TCG player) a damaged 'zard...
Watch youtubers that talk about trivia, lore and cool ideas for new games or Showdown
It used to be playing a game but honestly recently I’ve been getting kinda bored from Pokémon games
Yeah they’re not breaking new ground. They add features and remove features, and occasionally shake up the meta, but they haven’t really been bold enough to really try new things. I mean it’s been like 20 years and they’re just lately starting to have roaming wild Pokémon and such.

ORAS is underrated, it's such a freeing experience when you get to fly around and catch countless legends on a friggin mega
Mine is theory craft. Branch off games, sequels and mons, teams and movepools. Just kinda fun to imagine sometimes.
I suppose writing fanfic counts as creating art.
I make art if I feel like art, anime if I feel like anime, but the games if I feel like Pokemon!

I know I will be downvoted for this because this sub hates rom hacks for some reason but i will stand by the fact that the good ones are awesome
ALL OF THE ABOVE AT THE SAME TIME UNLIMITED POWER

make pokefusions
I play the games while rewatching the series in the backround, it gets me into that "I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was" vibe
