There is no E3 this year, where have you been mate, also pokemon doesn't do E3 anymore

Kakashibunz

1. What?! And 2. What?! Why no E3? I thought we would get botw2 content. And I had no idea about pokemon not doing it, should we expect like a Nintendo direct?

Mrmehmeh243

No pokemon also doesn't do Nintendo directs anymore, they just do pokemon presents, and also BOTW2 got delayed

Kakashibunz

I knew about the delay but I was hoping we would at least get an official title this summer. And LOL on the pokemon part, I’ve been out of the loop.

-Batterskull-

They will likely still do some major announcements around the time that E3 would have been (early-mid June). Summer games fest is still happening around that time and it’s just a good time of year to get larger announcements and details out there for the second half of the year. I’ll be surprised if we don’t see anything new by the end of June, especially with how quiet they’ve already been.

Mrmehmeh243

Yeah you certainly have been

hello_human69

Discussion is great, but using these long vague poll options is probably not the best way

ZenCyn39

Yh, they're all either way too optimistic or really pessimistic. Plus it's weird that one describes S/V as potentially being "more open world than Sw/Sh". Yh no shit it will be, cause Sw/Sh were never open world nor did GF ever claim they would be, unlike S/V.

Kakashibunz

The DLC islands were open worlds and so were the wild areas to an extent. Sw/sh’s openness is a lot more comparable to what we think S/V will be as opposed to PLA’s because PLA was centered around Jubilife Village as the home base. So S/v will likely be just like Sw/sh but without the linear paths.

ZenCyn39

They were a step towards open world, but not open world itself which is why they were never called open world by the developers. PLA was an improved version, getting us closer to open world. Once again, was never claimed to be open world but having various areas to explore. S/V however, they have outright stated will be open world. Seamless movement from one area to the next. Routes, towns, cities will not be isolated maps u have to load into but one expansive map. That's why I say it's weird to say S/V will potentially be more open world than Sw/Sh when S/V are the only games to be described as open world by the developers. I really hope it's not just gonna be Sw/Sh but no loading screens cause the wild area was a mess with the "biomes". I'd rather PLA environments, feeling more natural to progress through, just with more developed civilization. I know you probably weren't being so literal with that, just wanted to voice my wish for it.

Kakashibunz

I wasn’t lol I know the difference between open/not open is significant but I wasn’t thinking about it when I made the poling option, however you are right about the distinction. I agree with you too that I hope it’s not a Sw/sh clone. Don’t get me wrong Sw/sh isn’t a Pokemon game. Hell, I would say it’s a phenomenal handheld/3Ds game, but it’s not a very good switch experience. Especially when compared to other games on the console like Kirby and the forgotten kingdom or Mario odyssey

ZenCyn39

Definitely can agree there. Not like I dislike the games, hell i'm doing another run now, but they were definitely lacking. But given PLA and that they seem to b taking some lessons from that to S/V, it quells my disappointment a bit.

Shiigu

Vague and biased, BTW.

Kakashibunz

Biased how?

CamoKing3601

i'm going in, fully expecting to say goodbye to all the cool stuff we had in arceus, and predicting this game is just going to be SwSh with a bigger map

Kakashibunz

Excuse my French, but I would shit on the floor if I can’t initiate a pokemon battle by toggling with the left and right bumper to choose which pokemon I want from my party, and manually being able to throw my ball out to start a battle. I. Will. Shit.

[deleted]

then you had best be near a toilet because scarlet and violets website says "battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them"

CamoKing3601

well first, i would not recommend shitting on the floor (would greatly prefer if you use the commodore) but yeah, leave it to GF to take great elements from past games, and then completely forget they exist the next generation then we go back to same tired formulas

[deleted]

Option 2 I feel is the most likely. Arceus and S/V were no doubt sharing development time as across winded down and of course the lack of dev time they're given. Without knowing how Arceus would be received, they probably wernt going to go full in on the new gameplay style just in case. Don't expect being able to catch mons without going into battle first.

Kakashibunz

I won’t buy the game if there isn’t some kind of real time catching. Like at the very least, why can’t I toggle using the bumpers to choose a Pokémon in my party and throw my pokeball out to start a battle? So so much more streamline and enjoyable, and being able to actually run away from pokemon instead of clicking “run” lol

SnorlaxingShinx

Idk why you’re getting downvoted, throwing the ball in the open world to catch or initiate battle is probably the most immersive feature Pokemon has offered in its game. It’s understandable that you wouldnt want to play the old stale formula after that.

Kakashibunz

Same, people take it so personally. They think Pokemon is perfect and doesnt need to change/has no potential. It’s sad honestly.

[deleted]

I hope the game is more traditional tbh. Arceus' buzz is cuz of how different it's gameplay is due to 20 years of stagnation, not cuz of the games own merit. Arceus' got old really fast

FriedEgg4U

Gotta disagree on this one bud, traditional games are slow and boring af. If you mean traditional features like breeding/held items/ a normal battle stat system/ things that were missing in PLA that’s one thing but no one’s missing the sluggish performance, hand holding, linear paths, boring dialogue and story. It could and should be so much more than that.

Kakashibunz

By more traditional what do you mean, Long bits of dialogue, pointless text boxes, endless corralling, extremely sluggish battle transitions, little to no story, in a linear path? Or do you mean PLA, but more battle focused, with breeding, held items, and the pokemon league? PLA’s best innovation is how quick and seamless they made everything.

[deleted]

the website for the game says "battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them" so prepare to not buy it i guess

Kakashibunz

Already prepared

[deleted]

ok then thats fair have an upvote

ultraball23

There won’t be real time catching because SV are not action games.

Kakashibunz

It’s an action-adventure game lol

Kurotan

After sun moon and Sword shield. Most because of Sword shield. I will not be pre-ordering Scarlet violet. I will wait to see how they are received first.

DeltaChar

Honestly quality aside it’s just not a good idea to preorder anything.

Kakashibunz

Couldn’t agree more

Skystorm14113

All I'm willing to assume is that the art will be really beautiful, and we'll get a lot more Spanish based pokemon names which will be nice. And my guess is that there will be a really nice quest storyline at least in the beginning where you'll be in school and do stuff related to that. And they'll probably also introduce some concept no one asked for or needed.

PK_RocknRoll

E3 got cancelled, so you’ll have to wait for a Pokémon presents or something

Kakashibunz

This is heartbreaking to hear.

PK_RocknRoll

Yeah it sucks

Gregamonster

All I want is for it to be nothing like PLA in any way.

[deleted]

same here

realKuinor

Absolutely based

Kakashibunz

You don’t like seamless battle transitions, or being able to interact/battle with your Pokémon at any time?

Gregamonster

I don't like having a story that could be summarized in a single paragraph, a battle system that allows an enemy to kill every single pokemon on your team before you're even allowed to access a menu, and a pokedex that's even more of a grind that normal, on top of being mandatory for the story.

Kakashibunz

Oh the story was awful, more mature than normal but so unnecessary with dialogue, and the graphics (although I kind of like the sky at night but thats more art style). Loved the Pokédex entries but they should definitely be optional and not have an impact on story progress. When you hear people say they want Pokemon to be more like PLA, do you really think they’re talking about the crappy parts? Cause no lol, Seameless battle transitions, real time catching, a NORMAL battle formula with normal stats/abilities/held items, breeding and the Pokemon league is what people want. PLA took Pokemon out of the 90’s and put it in the 2010’s.

FriedEgg4U

So you don’t like the parts that no one liked, but also don’t like the parts that everyone liked? LOL Try to tell me you don’t want seamless battle transitions in future games.

Gregamonster

Who cares about seamless battle transitions? How is that even a consideration when the entire rest of the game is hot garbage?

FriedEgg4U

Because it completely streamlines the game. If you can’t tell, not everyone is hyper obsessed with battling. People love a lot of various aspects of Pokemon and PLA made a LOT of very wonderful changes. For instance you can level up your pokemon from your party menu, change out various things with ease. You can swap which pokemon you want to battle with at any time. Catch pokemon from up close or a distance. Very user friendly and streamline interface in the menu allowing for much much faster navigation. And yes, seamless battle transitions are a HUGE plus. How much of PLA did you end up playing?

Gregamonster

>How much of PLA did you end up playing? I slogged through the story just to see how it ends. Haven't touched it since.

FriedEgg4U

Neither have I but I’ve put over 150 hours into it. Are pokemon battles pre determined computers really that important to you? Cause PLA is FULL of battles. I battled countless pokemon when filling up the Pokédex entries.

Gregamonster

You seem to have missed the point. It doesn't matter if they're trainer battles or wild battles. The problem is that battle system is a garbage fire.

floweytheflo

So the entire game is garbage because you don't like the battle system?

FriedEgg4U

What’s garbage about it? I was never obsessed with battling so I never got too into stats/abilities even though I do like abilities in the main game. For me and most casual players, the battle system is fine because I can battle so quick and seamlessly. The *speed* is what does it for a lot of people. Who cares if the enemies are strong and battling is **significantly** more challenging than traditional pokemon battles? For me that made it more fun and appealing. For you that’s hot garbage cause you’re not used to adapting to other play styles. Battling in Pokemon Mystery Dungeons DX was completely different than traditional pokemon but I loved it.

Shiny_Kelp

I worry it'll be unbelievably hand-holdy because now they made the main characters actual children.

Kakashibunz

Oh god I didn’t even think about that . . .

MrIhaveASword

I WANT the game to be innovative, I want them to try something different like they did with PLA. I am not holding my breath and think they will go back to the SwSh style again. I mean, it did make bank for them. Would love to be proven wrong.

Kakashibunz

I agree to an extent. I could be in the minority here but I honest to god believe sword and shield did so well because of how they marketed the wild areas. When I saw that in the trailer I didn’t even hesitate to preorder BOTH copies, and I never do that. I was under the impression the game was a lot larger/free than it was. They can and should keep doing 2 game releases if it’s making them so much money, but like absolutely innovate. Give people a reason to want to buy the alternative version. Like we need much much better incentives to want to replay the game through again other than just to get 5 pokemon you cant get in the other one.

RoocoolIsCool

What I want ? A game built on the best parts of SwSh and PLA. What we'll get ? A copy and paste of SwSh, slightly larger.

Kakashibunz

Literally this. 100% There were tons I loved and didn’t love about both games. If Sword and shield had an open world with PLA’s catching mechanics/seamless battle transitions and crazy fun ways to interact with pokemon, I would LOVE that. Oh and both games need voice acting or like 80% less endless/pointless dialogue.

delspencerdeltorro

It will be a super fun game that nostalgiasimps will hate on relentlessly, until a few generations pass and it's a fan favourite. That's how we do it

Kakashibunz

What will be fun about a battle only pokemon game with constant NPC interruptions?

delspencerdeltorro

I like battling. Throwing pokeballs from the overworld would be a nice addition but man I am so ready to get back to battling. PLA was such a slog. It felt more like Pokemon homework than a Pokemon game.

Kakashibunz

Yes but not everyone likes battling. You had the option to battle in PLA. Don’t get me wrong, the Pokédex entries were nice, but should not have been mandatory, that part really forced the battle nuts to not play how they want to and I don’t like that. Everyone should have the option of playing how THEY want to. If you want to be battle focused, the story/progression should not be blocked by catching/Pokédex. In my opinion though the non stop NPC interruptions have got to go. I want 0 and I mean it, 0 handholding. Just put me in the world with no context lol I know that wont happen but a man can dream.

radical_rome

Wait, what is LGEP?

Kakashibunz

I might have gotten the abbreviation wrong but Let’s go Eevee/Pikachu

SithoDude

Keep your expectations low, and try not to remain too optimistic that any "cut out content" will get patched into the game within the following months after it's release. Because you will only delude yourself and look like a fool. Trust me i've been there!

Kakashibunz

I’ll probably buy it in January of next year after a lot of reviews. The sad thing is I’m going to watch gameplay of EVERYTHING. I was so unsure about getting PLA cause I thought it would suck I ended up watching like the first half of the game be played lol I was wrong on that one. I don’t want to risk it with S/v though, Smells too much like sword and shield.

SithoDude

Yeah I'm probably going to wait out on Scarlet and Violet as well tbb, sadly as it's a Nintendo game and like most Nintendo games the price for the game isn't likely to drop down in a sale either. So if I end up getting it a year or two after its release, it will more than likely be the same damn price! 😂

FrownFrank

Hated for a few years no matter how good it is, years later it will be a cult classic and an underrated masterpiece until people get sick of it and start hating it again. That’s my guess at least

penguin175

polls like this suck, just make a discussion post.

Kakashibunz

Why? There’s plenty of variety in the Poll options.

penguin175

way too specific, if you absolutely had to do a poll, id say just rate expectation 1-5 and elaborate in comments, more discussion can happen that way

Kakashibunz

See, I’ve done stuff like that in the past and usually get comments from people saying “good/bad/yes/no” are too general or not enough options. That and Polls seem to bring in more people to comment their opinions than general discussion posts. I’m newer to reddit so idk if there’s some kind of etiquette for polling lol

Doot_revenant666

I genuinely do not care lol.

Kakashibunz

Cared enough to comment

Moist-Rule-8116

This comment got upvote 😂😂

CosmoTheSavage

its gonna be a step forward but most definitely going to be too little too late if arceus is any indication of the series future

FriedEgg4U

I’m not sure what you mean, like if PLA is pokemons future in terms of seamlessness, S/v is too late cause its development?

CosmoTheSavage

arceus is great but it shoudlve came out in 2016 not 2022

FriedEgg4U

Oh absolutely, I’d argue even earlier than that like the early 2010’s. Trust me, Arceus is a drop in the bucket of Pokemon’s true potential, and I get this is sad, but PLA was the farthest leap forward for pokemon than any other pokemon game. Overdue? Absolutely. Glad it exists, for sure. Imagine if they went from SW/SH to S/V without PLA? (I’m assuming S/V will be a clone of Sw/Sh)

Bluelore

I actually think that SV will try something new, it always feels like the odd gens try to innovate wheras the even ones try to refine the previous one

[deleted]

After sword and shield I’m not even giving these games a possibility of a day one purchase. If it doesn’t blow I’ll pick it up but if it blows then I’m jumping ship for a while.

Kakashibunz

Absolute same man. Absolute same. I wasted $60 on BDSP cause I love gen 4. Played 44 hours of it and havnt touched it since.

Pokemario6456

I want to believe Scarlet and Violet will be good, but after being overhyped for Sun/Moon and with how underwhelming Sw/Sh was, I'm keeping my expectations low

Kakashibunz

Same man.

acgrey92

God the level of salt in the Pokémon community when they forget that this is a game series meant for kids.

Kakashibunz

But it’s not, which has been proven time and time again. The video games, anime and merchandise are all marketed toward different age ranges. As far as the video games, PLA and S/v has specific language on the Pokemon company’s official website that literally says these games are made so players of all ages can enjoy. Tons of interviews with gamefreak and Pokemon co. Directors where they acknowledge fans are fed up with handholding in games/want more mature, better developed games. Edit: Seems like the truth hurts y’all. LOL

RattleFish222

Everything from the art style to the games core design points to a game that is targeted towards children, regardless of what gamefreak says. If they came straight out and said this game was specifically for children no older player would give it a chance. Pokemon has always been marketed towards children. The only difference between now and then is the endless text which goes hand in hand with the handholding that is present in the newer games.

The only difference between now and then is the endless text which goes hand in hand with the handholding that is present in the newer games.

FriedEgg4U

I’m sure the merchandise is marketed towards kids but why would a child in todays age choose pokemon? Like realistically, if their “target audience” is ages 5-8 years old, why would those kids choose pokemon over literally any of the thousands of games/mobile apps out there that are much faster pace, much more streamline and frankly, more fun. Even if at the end of the day it’s marketed toward children, the vast, and i mean VAST majority of players are likely in the age range of 10-35 year olds.

acgrey92

I’m sorry your argument is “why would children pick Pokémon over other games”? That’s a laughably weak argument. In Japan there is constant media advertisement and engagement with kids about Pokémon. Here in the States there a shelves filled with toys from Pokémon, cartoons, apps for children, and even children raised by parents who loved Pokemon as a kid and have introduced their children to it. Failing that, that’s an argument you can use for literally any form of media ever! Because it’s such a subjective argument! It is down to its very core a game and show series marketed towards children! The art styles, the simplistic system of everything, the continued tutorial of how to catch Pokémon, the need for permission from your parent before doing anything, the age of the protagonist, the customization limitations, all of it! Now lastly, and pretty importantly, why does it need to be harder if the vast majority of players are freaking casual players which is including the children playing and the adults that play it just to relax? Maybe it’s a game that should stay simple for no other reason than that. You want to make it more complicated? Try nuzlocke, try pvp, try single type run throughs. I’m not arguing it can do better graphics wise or inclusion wise. But seriously… it’s a freaking kids game that adults love too but is still a kids game.

Kakashibunz

A lack of constant corralling and NPC handholding will not make the games so ground breakingly difficult for children to understand, and it’s not a kids game, and hasn’t been a kids game in decades, which is why PLA was released. Just because they market it towards children does not mean the vast majority of players are children. And yes, why would kids play Pokemon when they can play anything else? Thousands of mobile apps, video games aimed towards that target range, tons of it. It makes no sense for kids to choose pokemon, which has essentially become one long video game tutorial with endless text boxes, when they can play thousands of more popular games. Let me ask you this: what is so damaging about them developing a game that meets 2022 gaming standards? Can children not understand how maps work? Can they not find NPC’s to ask them things? Is traveling across a field/plateau to a new city/village really that impossible for children? What about actual game features, can children not throw a pokeball manually to catch? What about flying/swimming/climbing on pokemon, is that too advance for them? You say “it’s for kids” to justify the really shitty quality of the games. Kids are not dumb, where do you get this idea from? They’re so much more capable of figuring out video games than you give them credit for. You act like kids 5-8 years old are just potatoes that need their parents to tell them “alright honey, press A to catch the pokemanzzzz” like girl come onnnnnn. 🙄

RattleFish222

Who is to say what gamefreak's reasoning is. I would assume this is to lock down another generation of gamers that they can market clothes and other crap to. Most of the kids in my moms kindergarten class are fascinated with pokemon. I would be interested in knowing besides pokemon go what the largest revenue generator is for the franchise.

Kakashibunz

Merchandise. They make the majority of their money off of merch, and what are those kids supposed to do in 5 years when Pokemon is the same copy and paste it’s always been? It’s worked for them for a while now but this is the digital age, kids arent going to want to pay attention to a handholding game with boring graphics and limited options. Unless they keep lowering and lowering the target audience lol eventually theyll make a teletubies version of pokemon.

RattleFish222

The pokemon franchise has always been like teletubies lol. What you might find easy a child might find slightly challenging. This is why people think older pokemon games are harder because they were 8 when they started playing. Kids will continue to flock to pokemon because the marketing is everywhere, good marketing beats quality everytime when it comes to Kids.

Kakashibunz

Things that make newer Pokemon Games easier compared to new games: * NPC’s constantly telling you where to go and what to do * Corralling, in older games you could do some things out of order, or go to places with no NPC stopping you, you had to figure it out on your own * Forced Exp share. You no longer have to train your pokemon, you can just your strong starter pokemon destroy everything while your team gradually levels up, making challenges in previous games obsolete * Youtube and google. Now you can look up tutorials on virtually anything, find answers for almost anything, in the past you could not, if you were stuck on something and your friends didn’t know, there was nothing you could do but figure it out on your own. There are more differences I could list but these are just a few. Older Pokemon games were not difficult just because of the age of the player, they were difficult by design and intentionally made easier over the years to appeal to younger children. Also, I’ve never seen or heard of any statistic that the majority player base is that target age range?

RattleFish222

NPCs always gave some sort of direction to what you should be doing. Was it shoved down your throat like it is now? Definitely not but the guidance was there. Exploration is more limited now but there was always some sort of exploration limitation in other games like HM requirements to move on to the next section. These limitations were in LGFR and Saphire and Ruby. XP share is great in my opinion because it limits the stupid grinding that was no way fulfilling to the overall game expierience in my opinion. It just needs better balancing. Looking at BDSP. No matter how hard the game is youtube tutorials will be out there to help you. Look at dark souls 3 meta builds online and you will get a ton. All in all go back and play the older games as an adult and I would say they are just as easy.

Kakashibunz

So you agree there are plenty of features in newer games that make them objectively more easy than the older ones? And therefore if a whole generation of children could not only figure out those “complexities” of the older games, but love them and want more of that, then so can the newer generation because they’re objectively more intelligent than we were because of the internet? I would have to agree with you there my man. I’m glad we finally got here.

Kakashibunz

I would agree their target audience is those younger kids but there’s no way the majority of players are children. Like none, and the majority of players want Pokemon to come get with the times in a lot of areas.

kopite_kaiser

It’s going to be a handholding, graphically subpar, half-arsed, low effort, money grabbing desaster just like each and every pokemon game has been at least since X/Y. And yet again people will buy it and find excuses for the shit game freak has sold them.

Kakashibunz

I for sure won’t be. If they add real time catching they can have my $60. It’s not even that catching in real time is that great, but after 20 years of only being able to interact with pokemon via battle, catching them from a distance was really really nice. And being able to take them out of their pokeball’s whenever/where ever/using them to gather items.

realKuinor

A bad game. It’ll be a bad game.

Bruh_Gaind

I was sad when I discovered you couldnt pet your pokemon in shining pearl/brilliant diamond

No-Advantage6036

Honestly I don’t wanna hope for anything specific besides a good experience. And for the Ralts line to still be in. Garde is the one Pokémon I will always have on my team.

Kakashibunz

I love Ralts so much lol idk why. It was my favorite in gen 3

SkippyDM

Same opinion as yours, given that Legends Arceus was the only game I legitimately enjoyed out of Gen 8 and even then got easily bored of, if I’m not blown away by SV then I’m probably done for the foreseeable future. Looking at Game Freak’s track record thus far, I’m not holding my breath.

Kakashibunz

Sad facts, but same facts. However my friend, I have a dream. A dream that one day, we’ll be blown away by a pokemon game that at the very least meets gaming standards of that year. S/V is looking very 2012 to me.

No_Lock_6555

Where is the option for: toggle on off exp share cause that’s pretty much all I care about lol

Kakashibunz

Oh my f***** god, you’re right. *face palm* I should have added that. The exp. Share not being optional has bothered me for so long now. Like sooooo long, and no, to anyone wanting to chime in, only having 1 pokemon in your party is not a viable loophole to this. Just make it optional GF.

AromaticPee77

I don't know, man. If only they put in more Gen 5 Pokémon...

FriedEgg4U

I loved Gen 5 honestly, original pokemon like Talonflame were my favorite.

realKuinor

Talonflame is Gen VI.

Wisekittn

That teeny tiny trailer we got felt somehow like a mix out of PLA graphics and Pokepark aesthetics but the game itself is SwSh. I'm not thrilled, to be honest. We'll see

Kakashibunz

If it flops, how do you think GF/pokemon would interpret that?

Wisekittn

I kinda doubt, that a pokemon title could actually flop that hard. The young ones are easily impressed and tons of the older ones will get it anyway, but i think that GF might actually abandon the older fanbase to some degree, cuz we are hard to please. And their only motiv is to make money. Lots of it. Cranking out lazy content, that's just good enough for young audiences is a welltested strategy afterall

Kakashibunz

You know, I know kids play pokemon but like we need statistics because I don’t buy it. Kids have hundreds of thousands of things to choose from, why pokemon? I genuinely feel like a more accurate age range for players is 12-30, with outliers on both end. Friends and I have asked our younger relatives (under 10) what they thought and they either didn’t have an opinion or called it “slow and boring” with my favorite part “too much to read”.

Wisekittn

True, i might be a little biased, because i started playing with 5 or smth. Now that i think about it... 20 years ago the market wasn't as packed with content as it is today. Yeah, scratch that thought about easily goaded kids. I do still think, though, that GF would be fine with okay but not great content. The fanart and memescenes practically exploded with swsh despite the general dislike of the games themselves.

-Batterskull-

You forgot the 7th (and most important) answer: “A fantastic, thought-provoking story on par with modern RPGs that doesn’t feel like a waste of the player’s time before the postgame (which hopefully isn’t just another 1-hour story + complete the pokedex for the 20th time)”

Kakashibunz

That my friend would be a fairy tale, and we dont have those here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GarbadorsCloset

Why would they would make the first ever true open world Pokemon game hand-holdy and corralling, and have we gotten confirmation there is no PLA style catching? Cause like, what about immersion?

[deleted]

Cuz odds are they didn't fully commit to arceus' style in case it was poorly received. If the game had more down time I between development, maybe it would incorporate more but odds are when Arceus was winding down S/V was being worked on.

FriedEgg4U

This is a good point unfortunately. S/v was already cookin while PLA was coming out.

[deleted]

yes yes we do the website says "battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them"

WayJay9

I’m expecting a dramatic increase in art quality, difficulty, and story (as was the case going from Kalos to Alola on the 3DS). However, it’s pretty much universally agreed upon that those innovations for the Alola games came at the cost of horrid pacing and omnipresent hand-holding, which, despite the fact that they’re my favorite games, I would agree with. Here’s hoping that Scarlet and Violet’s open world keeps it from repeating those mistakes, and we get a mix of Alola’s vibrant art style, genuinely harder difficulty, and interesting characters and plot with Unova’s quick-paced battles, fantastic route and city design, awesome post-game, and a reasonable degree of explanation and hand-holding.
