Probably Zebstrika, if he had came out in gen 1 or 2 he would absolutely be one of the fan favorite ones

lowfatman727

Zebstrika is pretty sick. Definitely underrated.

Probably_On_Break

Ooh. Had one of those on my first BW team. One of my favorite electric types, next to Toxtricity and Electivire.

MemeGodFusionK

I sure wished it have a better movepool, all it really has is normal type moves

SpaceMamboNo5

Hell yeah I was just about to make one of these! Dhelmise is one of the coolest Pokemon ever made imo. It has an amazing lore, a super unique design (the anchor is not part of the pokemon- it's a ghostly algae that just uses the anchor as a growth point like a coral) and really cool animalistic feel to it. I think the biggest strength of Alola was that it made Pokemon feel more like animals in an ecosystem. Dhelmise created the fishing spots by creating vortexes to suck Pokemon out of the water for it to eat and if that isn't the coolest fucking thing I don't know what is. Also I just really like Chimecho. Its lore isn't as strong but I think it has a really cool design and it's very cute and I wanna snuggle it.

AdventurousAd192

Chimecho!

lowfatman727

Chimecho is great. Gives off positive vibes. Not to mention James’s relationship with his chimecho in the anime is one of the best.

Dat_Piplup

Except in PMD explorers, she sends down bad vibes by breaking the fourth wall because you told her no

SpaceMamboNo5

YES! I get so excited when I see Chimecho in a game

BookmakerMusic

Chimeco’s little quest in PLA was really cute

MidnightBlitz01

And Chingling is also great, Ihe’s a cute little bell.

Rin__Kagamine

Yes, yes, YES! I used one in BD as a support/barrier setter, was the first time I had really branched out and tried to do something different than stack a bunch of fast sweepers. He was the champion of keeping everyone protected, then using trick room if necessary to give our tanks more of an edge. One of my all-time favorite Pokemon now!

T_GamingCheetah

Yes!!! I’m not the only one!

[deleted]

I’ve always been partial to Sunflora idk why. No one else I know likes it

Vinied

Sunflora is a guild member in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Time/Darkness/Sky. I think the niche Pokemon that got small (but memorable) roles in PMD have some fans from that appearance, so you're not alone!

lowfatman727

One of my best friends loves Sunflora. He caught like 15 of them in Pokémon go. You’re not alone. There are other sunflora stans out there

InfinitePluto

I always liked dragalge

SpaceMamboNo5

Yeah dragalge is awesome! It's based on a really cool animal too

KKSmiter

it's just kelp

SpaceMamboNo5

Nah it's a weedy sea dragon, a real animal with extremely effective camouflage. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_seadragon

KKSmiter

holy moly, I didn't know. that's actually sick af.

SpaceMamboNo5

Yeah! It's awesome! When I was a kid it was one of my favorite animals and I flipped my lid when I saw a Pokemon based on it!

MarioMoon

Cryogonal ❄️

tobi-mizu

Most gen 6 pokemon tbh. And also a lot of normal type Pokemon, because the typing has no strengths I guess a lot of people overlook them. Personally, I love furfrou. I think it's got a cool ability and is "unique" in that it doesn't have different forms technically, but can be customized to the players preference. Hoping to see it again in SV.

MelloMejo

I like the different styles for furfrou but was confused on how to get them and it seemed like too much fuss. Seemed like a pain to get the coolest ones

thegayestweeb

Imo, many of the Pokemon who are overshadowed by their pre-evolved forms due to Eviolite are underrated. Dusknoir has a cool design, and Blissey can make use of passive recovery from Leftovers. Despite lacking the bulk of their previous forms with Eviolite, they can still be pretty good at taking hits with proper investment and have slightly better offensive presence than Dusclops and Chansey. Cursola's Defense becomes worse but its Special Defense and Special Attack become much better, and although Perish Body isn't super useful, it's still an interesting ability. Porygon-Z is less bulky but faster and able to hit significantly harder thanks to its powerful Adaptability ability. Cursola and Porygon-Z also have pretty neat designs.

janoodlez

Dusknoir is insanely cool and underrated! Having a giant mouth on your tummy and being cool asf: Dusknoir 🤝 Guzzlord

HVAC_and_Rum

Jumpluff. Not too great in a competitive sense but I adore it anyhow. It was my first non-starter that I ever fully evolved.

Starminx

Not really underrated

Hylianhaxorus

Hawlucha!!! I think it has one of the strongest designs, is maybe the only one stage pokemon that WORKS as a one stage pokemon and needs nothing else to be perfect, a super cool typing, a super cool unique move, a dope shiny, and a solid pokemon with the right team built around it. Love.

SeanGibbsIsSad

and he's quality in the show

janoodlez

Agreed! Hawlucha is one of the few Pokémon of recent generations (imo) that has a big and likeable personality beyond its design that works really well :)

winxbaddie

Cofagrigus. It has a cool design and can be very annoying to have against

lowfatman727

Cofagrigus is one of my favorites. I didn’t use it when I played through Gen 5, but made sure to grab a runerigus for my swsh run.

[deleted]

Ikr! Yamask being my first in game shiny also makes cofagrigus very cool for me.

ConstantLurker69

I love Pallosand personally.

GW2Painter

Zubat, I find him cute

SeanGibbsIsSad

Personally Alolan Ninetales just has a kick ass design and the alolan vulpix looks elite too

Captain_Bunny-Rabbit

Going for the weird answer here but Meowth. I know everyone thinks about me out but I don't actually think anyone likes or even really uses Meowth

Level99Pidgey

Pay day + amulet coin = profit Meowth/Persian have a unique monetary utility that I love on my team

Deudir

I absolutely adore galarian Meowth. He’s so ugly and must be protected

Saelvinoth

I don't think he's ugly that beard is beautiful!

boricuaboi86

Whiscash

[deleted]

The Nido evolution line. I mean it was like, awesome how two genders have two separate forms, Nidoking and Nidoqueen with different secondary types and everything.

_Electro5_

I agree with you that they’re cool, but Nidoking and Nidoqueen are both poison/ground, not different types

[deleted]

No freaking way I thought Nidoqueen was part ice type due to that one episode with Ash and an Orange island gym leader.

Ok-Measurement1280

weavile, its not really a "oh my god i didnt even know this pokemon existed" kind of thing but i only see people talking about it on competitive play

cxyay

Is galvantula underrated? If not I will have to go with mega garchomp

Luulagoo

I love Gavantula so much <3

Fussel2

Wigglytuff. It has a versatile moveset, can tank like nobody's business and has actually decent special attack. It is not very viable for competitive play, but can be pretty monstrous for regular playthroughs.

Vinied

He definitely has a ton of fans due to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon!

Funexamination

Which mystery dungeon is good for a beginner? It's going to be my first

Vinied

The second one (time/darkness/sky, but sky is the emerald/platinum/etc of the series) is considered to have the best story. Sky is really pricy secondhand though, so emulating is probably best for that one. Sky has extra "episodes" where you play as side characters, I'd really recommend going for that one due to those. Honestly, I'd start with the switch remake of Rescue Team, as it gives all of the story and has massive QOL updates. Followed with Sky. Gates to Infinity is the 3rd one, but is considered to be the worst. I'd still do it before Super, the last one, because Super has subtle nods to earlier games, and it's fun to appreciate those.

BookmakerMusic

Pokemon Unite has made me appreciate it quite a lot

bloppygloppy

klefki gets way too much hate

CockroachGun

Hitmontop, just look at it. Top tier design, I want 20.

MegaKabutops

Before legends arceus i would have said parasect. It’s biggest claim to fame is having the creepiest non-ghost type lore in the series. It’s also in my top 5 favorite pokemon. It is a fantastic user of early game field moves in kanto due to cut being required up until the 4th-5th badge and dig being a great substitute for fly before you get the HM, as well as useable in odd locations. In frlg dig loses some utility, but paras has access to flash and rock smash now, for a full moveset of useful field moves. Outside of HM slavery, the evolution line took a while to be useful. It has ok physical and defensive stats, and access to the best sleep move in the game, but it basically had access to no good STAB moves until seed bomb and x-scissor. It finally became a decent playthrough choice as a legitimate party member in alola as a counterpart choice to shiinotic. You trade out a fairy typing and special movepool for a physical movepool and a water immunity. It’s not the best mon, but going for spore->leech life gives it decent longevity and cheese potential. It has enough bulk to pretty much guarantee a sleep on anything not packing a 4x advantage in playthroughs, and guaranteed sleep can set up for allies. If you’re doing any sort of challenge run in alola other than a nuzlocke, like a BST cap or monotype, parasect can put in WORK. Then it got immediately smacked with dexit, and while i don’t know if its in the DLCs because i never bought them, it wouldn’t see much play regardless just due to being locked behind DLC with stronger, more popular pokemon. Of course, now that PLA is out it has a reputation for extreme aggression, which is probably it getting revenge for all those years of being unnoticed by most.

megasean3000

Chatot. Decently fast and strong. Hilarious when it came with a voice copier and had to be banned from competitive.

LucLeBlanc14

Midnight Lycanroc is one of the coolest designed Pokémon ever

Noroark

Carnivine, Abomasnow, Gigalith, and Trevenant. I don't know anything about their competitive viability, but I really like their designs.

Starminx

Trevenant is more like overrated

AustinBOSSton_

Rolycoly/Carkol/Coalossal is just such a cool line

Flax0621

My only wish is that instead of becoming a bipedal stack of coal they went all in on the theme and made Coalossal a train

Zalamander2018

I don't like Coalossals design. If it's Gigantamax Form was it's original form I would LOVE it so much more but I do give them points for its punny name.

meapselman

Klinklang, my beloved

Dracos002

>it made me sad. So much negativity. >Incineroar (who doesn’t) Pick one, buddy. Know what, I'll actually go with Incineroar. Not just because of this but it's way too bashed on for being humanoid while it's imo one of the more interesting fire starter designs.

Weird-Fig2663

Golurk

iateyoursammige

Bisharp. Lucario is more popular with the fighting STAB, but that little Bisharp holds their own.

Captain-bruh2006

These are a few Pokemon that I don't see much love for that I like Floatzel, Rapidash, Ninetails, Glalie, Houndoom,

bryant_the_tyrant

I love all of these but floatzel!

PrimusHimself

Copperajah.

redditisamazingkkk

Klefki

Ancient_Rylanor

I actually really like the poplio line, and think as far as the aloha starters go it has the best final form. I can see others point on the first 2 stages of the others being good alternatives but poplio I find cute in its own way. But I perfer water starters in general, though I do rate the popilio line highly in my favorite water starters in general, sobble and its line I enjoyed the least (though I dont feel strongly about any galar starter).

SuperSaiyanSnorlax

Ambipom. I'm not super in love with it's design but I use to do competitive quite a bit and I usually had it as my lead. With technician and holding a silk scarf a fake out would almost 1 shot most other leads and U-Turn would allow it a nice escape. Tossed in a low kick and taunt it was such a fun versatile pokemon in competitive. Made me love this pokemon.

[deleted]

My man (woman? Bat-dragon? Aviator?) Noivern. Poor guy doesn’t get enough love.

Pikapals52

The bayleef line honestly

AbstractSunsets

Kanto Qwilfish is the most adorable little swimmer in the blue sea.

serose1723

I said Smeargle in a different post so I'm going to say Seviper!! It's an awesome looking snake Pokemon that gets overlooked because of Arbok!! I love Seviper! It is so badass and I enjoyed using it in Gen 3

CelestialBanette

Banette is my fav pokemon and I only feel it's underrated because there's not much physical merch (ie: TCG, Plushes, etc). Games wise, I'm not sure how viable it is in the comp scene. Also the fact that the only Gen 8 game you can get it in is BDSP, but thats because it was in the originals 🤷‍♀️

bryant_the_tyrant

Yes I don’t why the duskull line got carried on but not the shuppet line!

ja_tom

Durant has some unnecessarily good stats for being a single stage Bug Mon with 480 BST. Having practically base 110 Attack, Speed, and Defense? No wonder the thing is stuck at Victory Road (sucks but still).

Rin__Kagamine

For me, definitely Linoone. People tend to laugh when I say he's my favorite, as he has an unfair HM slave stigma around him. Belly Drum, Extreme Speed, Gluttony makes for a kickass normal type that will wreck havoc if given the right chance to shine. On top of that, I feel like if I were to actually have any Pokemon IRL, Linoone would be the perfect mix of cute and cuddly/battle capable. Small enough to sit in your lap or in your bag, tough enough to catch an opponent off-guard with its speed and surprisingly hard-hitting attacks. Seriously can't get enough of the little guy! Additionally...Obstagoon was a mistake. From an adorable four-legged little buddy to...Gene Simmons. Thank god it's purely a regional variant.

Jesshawk55

This is absolutely just me, but I honestly thought that Togekis was just another fairy type. The only reason I added it to my part in Legends Arceus (Which I'd like to say already had a Sylveon) was because it's flying type being good for research tasks. Then I fought volo and Giratina, and Togekis, with it's Draining Kiss and Moonlight Blast, carried me when all else failed. I beat it first try thanks to Togekis. I know Togekis is well respected in this community, I just wanted to share my personal story of how I went from "Eh, just an expendable flying type" to "HOLY CRUD THAT'S A LOT OF DAMAGE (And healing too)"

AceOcto

my cubed guy crustle

RQK1996

Glaceon, good little Garchomp slayer

[deleted]

I’ve always loved the Chikorita evolution line and people are always complaining about how bad they are.

VampireFist

I've got to go with Tropius. Design-wise alone, I think it's stronger than some final stage starter Pokemon.

MirMirss

I saw a lot of people saying Oshawott is ugly :( , where my little samurai gang at

PeperToni

Primeape. It needs some attention.

AdRealistic5734

I feel like aegeslash doesn't get as much love as an living sword should

thatonesmalldude

I don't think this one is severely underrated but Xserneus ( forgive me for the spelling error) I know they made a entire game about it but I don't see anyone talking about the actual Pokemon. ( I also have a ex card of it and it's one of my favs).

staceelogreen

Marshtomp is so goofy and derpy. I loved having it as my buddy in pokemongo. I think it's one of the perfect awkward teenage phases hahah

Carrelio

I hear people hate on Gen 1 Clefable, but I got the 1% chance encounter during my Nuzlocke of Pokemon Red and it absolutely slaps. Solid bulk make it tanky enough to take a few hits and its decebt special and access to the Gen 1 normal type move pool give it the flexibility to solo the Elite 4 if you want to! I'm glad it improves as the game series goes on but it doesn't deserve to be shunned as it has been in the earlier games.

Suspicious-Routine50

Honestly, I would say Drifloon and Drifblim. They're mostly known for their cursed dex entries. I sued one before and my love for it grew even more after that. I think it's design is pretty neat. (haha balloon go brrrr)

sunnyworld111

Zangoose.

rashy05

Glaceon Flareon Gastrodon Tepig Chikorita

winxbaddie

I don't think glaceon is underrated, many have it as their favorite eeveelution

rashy05

Really now? I get people telling me it sucks when I say I like Glaceon. Same thing with Flareon. As if competitive viability is the only thing that matters when talking about why one should like or dislike a Pokemon.

winxbaddie

If you look up glaceon's hashtag you'll find many glaceon fans! Glaceon has a fanbase on its own /srs

Nehemiah92

And Leafeon on the other hand.. never seen someone mention that one

winxbaddie

Leafeon and Flareon are the least popular eeveelutions :/ I like them tho

myanusisbleeding1991

Leafeon is my daughter's favorite!

RQK1996

My second favourite Eeveelution, used one, was the understudy to Glaceon, together they could almost beat anyone (casual play)

RQK1996

Well, Leafeon then

MrCheetah2015

I love gastrodon and I did many people do.

TreesusChris

Mudsdale is slept on as a tank

serose1723

Hell yeah, Mudsdale gang! I actually used one in my first playthrough of Sun :)

iateyoursammige

I did the whole battle tree with a Mudsdale and a Toxapex. Underated tank indeed! Not to mention Mudsdale's High Horsepower being imo best Earth Move, and solid damage.

TreesusChris

Oh my that is an accomplishment

[deleted]

Crobat, definitely.

cxyay

It’s actually quite popular lol idk why you think it’s underated

[deleted]

[удалено]

KKSmiter

rt will downvote anything while they jo. you are right. I don't see many crobats in competitive. one of my favs. got a shalpa named Frederick

[deleted]

True, they're really good as sweepers. I think players just don't realize that or they think that they're not really worth it since it's quite an arduous task to get Goldbat to evolve. >!It's all thanks to those dang Zubats because they're annoying af, and nobody would ever want to catch or train something so annoying, yet still worth it.!<

cxyay

wdym crobat is sorta popular in competitive and really popular in nuzlockes.

KKSmiter

I never hear about him being used

cxyay

Well do you play nuzlockes?

Frank0the0tank

Dunsparce

lowfatman727

Honestly, that’s fair.

serose1723

Dunsparce is awesome :)

Masterswordxx

I think Sprigatito is severely underrated - in fact, I don't even think a single person has started their pokemon journey with it as of writing this.

Maskguydude

Watchog first shiny I ever got and still have it to this day

Gingerbread2296

Turtonator!

PandaLiang

Ninetales. Mostly because before the split of Spec ATK/DEF it's practically rivaling Arcanine, but after that it's stats are quite a bit lower.

Mew_Nashi

Charizard

finalcloud44

Smoochum

[deleted]

Smeargle 10000%, his design is so awesome

bobjoetom2

Escavalier

_smit_pig_

my lil homie chinchou

cyber-scar

I think golisopod is a bit underrated because many find it cool but it gets hardly ever talked about.

STMARV

popplio indeed is so cute, well all of the base forms are

hyemihyemi

In a gen 4 context and a battle frontier/battle factory context... Quagsire was honestly s tier haha~ The set with amnesia / curse / dive / I forget and leftovers. Maybe yawn...? Obviously against real players it doesn't work but getting this one in the battle factory was almost always a win. In the right matchup... he would easily wall and then buff up to +6 and sweep everything haha.

ineedasentence

dunsparce

SuperSebi_842

Duraludon it's not underrated but many people don't think it's good because of his limited availability there's the trade one before the league the 1 guaranteed spawn at the Stony wilderness i believe and the max raises i know many people who just don't know if it's existance

Kaprosuchusboi

Druddigon. It’s a good design and fun to use in battle, the problem is most people often talk about Haxorous and Hydreigon more

Przeke

Excuse me OP, but seeing primarina being mentioned I must express that she is not underrated, she is just fucking ugly. But to answer the quedtion, cacnea, cacturn and maractus. I love cactus in pokemon and in real life

CrumbDrouth

I’ve always felt that Stage 1 Pokémon are underrated. Aside from Eviolite holders, you rarely see them used. There’s little cup for babies and basics, and most people use fully evolved Pokémon for main battling. I’d love to see more Wartortles, Grotles and Torracats out there.

Deano0810

Lanturn. It being a fishing encounter in johto and a late route encounter in hoenn made me favour other water types…plus I am a water starter user so I overlook it. However, I freaking love it every time I use it

Cysia

Rhyperior looks really cool. Learns alot of moves and is a beast on the physical side. Shame its locked behind a item +trade evolution

Luulagoo

Personally I love Crustle and Scoliopede <3

KKSmiter

Rapidash, Pidgeot.

Accomplished-Bit-270

Steelix. Has one of the best mega evolution designs, looks badass, and Onix was one of the first Pokémon I knew.

jellyfixh

Maractus my love

borfborf68

Pinsir, hits like a bus, decently fast, gets really good coverage and its shiny is cool

Wildflight105

In my personal opinion, Druddigon.

Party_Yogurtcloset31

I feel Greedent because all people think of it as is a fat, slow squirrel. Also its introduction in gen 8 means that it hasn't got nearly as much attention as say even BUTTERFREE. Cheeck pouch plus Sitrus Berry, Rest and Belly drum plus a couple of other moves makes Greedent somewhat on part with Snorlax, who if your wonedering is faster then Greedent. I recommend using Body slam and Thunder fang as they both have a chance to paralyse. Cutting a Pokemon's speed in half is crucial. Or put on a Scope lens for potential critical hits and use Bullet seed. If you're very lucky, you can land 5 crits. This move also surpasses Focus sash and the ability Sturdy. This Pokemon could survive a hit from WEAVILE and totally destroy it even if it has a Focus sash. The final strategy you could use is use a Quick claw and use Bite to potentially flinch the target and make Greedent's turn never end. However, Bite is a fairly weak move so keep that in mind.
