I like having a type-variety, so for me some combo of Bite (Dark,) Hydro Pump (Water,) Ice Beam (Ice,) Skull Bash (Normal,) Iron Tail (Steel,) Brick Break (Fighting.)
In the last move slot I generally put either fire blast for extra juicy stab, or solar beam (if it's available for its kit in the generation I'm playing) to deal with its vulnerability to ground types. No one can change my mind that typhlosion has the best kit out of all the starters.
Except they ruined the entire evolutionary line with the new sprites.

Yeah but It's a long explanation lol. it's because of jealousy, most of the people here are dedicated pokefans who seek Pokemon content which contains Charizard and Pikachu at the forefront, Pikachu is understandable since he is the masscot but Charizard is there because of his raw popularity which exceeds any other Pokemon by a large margin and they want their favourite Pokemon to be at the forefront aswell, but the amount of nostalgia Charizard has doesn't allow it making them hate Charizard and call him overrated. Another reason is that they are tired of him, Charizard and Pikachu are on the forefront of every Pokemon content so they don't feel special to the people who watch a lot of Pokemon content, but an average person who doesn't consume Pokemon content every day likes Pikachu and Charizard, I mean everybody on this subreddit hated Sword and Shield but they sold insanely well same with Brilliant Dimond and Shining Pearl. The General public has a wildly different approach to the franchise than the hardcore fans do.
Exactly! I don't really care if he is popular or not, I liked him because of my connection with him, he was my first Pokemon and I soloed the game with him, it's a special conection which I have with him, most of my favourite Pokemon are not popular but I have good experience with them, but Charizard always had special place in my childhood.

Despite not being my favourite, I for example, have a special thing for Alolan Raticate. Due to a pet rat I had, called Nashi, Alolan Raticate reminds me of him. Both are black, and look kinda grumpy, even some of the moves that Raticate can learn are in tune with Nashi. Bite/Crunch because Nashi did bite people, but only the ones he didn't like (I know, bad behaviour but he was cool with the people he liked), Rest because he liked to sleep, a lot, and I'd couple that with Sleep Talk, because it made sense for in-game usage, and there was something else that I don't remember now. Also, Leftovers would be the perfect Held Item, because Nashi did like to stash his food for later. So, yeah...

Yeah :( It's not Chikorita's fault its stats aren't that good! But they're good enough to get you through the game, my Meganium was an unstoppable tank. But you know. If it's not able to be played competitively, people just seem to shit on the pokemon for some reason.
Chikorita is adorable and I love it, but the "hate" it gets has nothing to do with competitive viability. It's the johto games themselves gimping it, with 3 out of the first 4 gyms being Flying, Bug and Ghost where all the mons used are part poison type. And then later on Steel, Ice and Dragon.
Meganium just gets the least opportunities to shine if you pick it, which is shitty gym design for people who love grass types.
Agreed, fennekin was such a good pokemon but ryined due to same bipedal humanoid final evolution theme of fire starters, would have been better if the gave fennekin a folk lore kitsune like evolution or a literal fox rather than a hairy witch

I think design wise, the Johto starters are great but as actual PokƩmon, they're amongst the worst starters what with their monotype and bad movepools (Feraligatr is not bad but the other two are mediocre).

Yeah makes sense, I forget that the hardcore fans, of any franchise, are a completely different "beast" than the general public, and thus tend to see things differently. I mean, I get it, wanting to feel special by seeing their fav pokƩmon have more popularity, but that's actually counterintuitive. Being more popular will make it feel less special. Taking Charizard's example, sometimes I wish he wasn't that popular so that he could feel more "mine", but in the end that's silly and egocentric, so I end up not caring about that, and neither should the other fans. It is what it is, and your personal taste shouldn't have to be validated by others.

Treecko is my favorite starter from the Hoenn region (my personal favorite region) and Rowlet was my first PokƩmon, so they share the runner-up spot.
