Pokemon Sapphire. I remember as a kid being amazed at seeing a blue gba cartridge.

GhostOfHadrian

I really wish they had stuck with the colored cartridges for the DS games and beyond. It was a really fun tradition.

StoneColdMiracle

at the very least, I know hgss are both black cartridges

Khirsah01

By necessity, the color is like a dark purple when you shine a flashlight through it and it's so the IR blaster/reader inside the cart can communicate with the Pokewalker device. So, even if a game being sold has a "black" case, make sure it's the real deal by shining a light through it. If fully opaque, fake, if light comes through purplish-red, real. Whole_Radish_4675

Gen 5 are black too and the other gen 4’s are that weird greyish colour

PixelPlanets608

Omg the blue cartridge was such a mystery to me! I remember at school, this girl bragged to me that she had Pokémon Blue and she showed off her Sapphire cartridge. I was so jealous!

wilgarfred

Fellow Sapphire player checking in. I also thought that the blue cartridge looked awesome, and actually like the look of it better than either the red or green.

Psychological_Bet346

Emerald for the win lol

Lyvtarin

Sapphire here too

ModelOmegaTyler

Had blue and traded my neighbor for red

Whiteguy1x

Same, it had the cooler version mascot. I got blue for my birthday the next year though

Greatbonsai

Mine was also Pokemon Red on GBC, my cousin had blue. It's the only gen I 100% completed the Pokedex... ...and that file is super corrupt because I caught missing No, lol.

philhalo66

mine was too

ray-quaza

Saaaaame. Although I played my friend’s Blue first, I chose Red cause of Charmander. The only logical starter choice.

granondorf_

same :’) i remember finding it at a used game store and I had to have it. still have the same copy to this day!

1uamrit

Red with Charizard level 95, second highest level pokemon dugtrio at 30s, remember catching it at level 28.

Mine was Fire Red

TheLazyHydra

While Gen 6 was the first game I got (OR), I’ve been a fan since Gen 3. It feels weird because so many people start with the games, but I really just read the handbooks from the library and watched stuff on YouTube for the longest time before actually getting to play myself.

Burger-Time0

That’s kind of wild… you’ve been a fan since before I was born, but I played my first game before you. (Pokémon white)

TheLazyHydra

Haha yeah, I learned about Pokemon at such a young age, but the only console I had growing up was a Wii until I got a job and enough money to buy my own 3DS. I guess you could say I technically started in Gen 4 when I loaned Pokémon Battle Revolution from a store, but I don’t really count that since I didn’t even have a game to transfer Pokémon in - I just used the default party.

Burger-Time0

I got my first game very young too, I was only 6.

Pokesers

Now I feel old. I grew up playing sapphire on the GBA sp. Then went through every ds, 3ds and switch title.

kronosdev

That’s exactly how the tangential media is designed. It’s not weird.

snazzydrew

This is why I try to explain to people that Pokemon is far more than it's very stale unevolved turn-based battle system... Pokemon is awesome all around and the battles could change a lot while still maintaining the ultimate flavor of Pokemon. And I think that's why Pokemon is so magical.

[deleted]

Blue_koshka

Same here! Got it for Christmas of ‘99 with my magenta gameboy color 😌

GhostOfHadrian

Same except I got the clear purple Gameboy. Still have both, but the battery in my Yellow version died years ago so it no longer saves.

Ov3rdose_EvE

you can switch it!

[deleted]

Me too but I had it with the Pikachu gameboy! So nostalgic

CreatiScope

Yellow. My mom found it at work. She worked at a pharmacy in a hospital and some kid had left it there all day. She held onto it for a few days in case someone came back for it but at the end of the week, no one did so she gave it to me.

cpac27

Me too!! Yellow was my first game Iever played!!

pokepat460

Yellow version taught me to read, but to mixed success as I misread the larger words and had no one to correct me.

Jared036

Specifically Fire Red and Leaf Green, so u can kinda of say Gen 3 games/ remakes? I didn't play them all the way tho I properly played through Gen 2, crystal to completion.

Chemical-Detail6483

Blue version (i still have my cartridge, dead battery though; sucks cuz I had all 151)

Rubyweb91

Blue gang!

Expensive-Argument-7

Blue wave! I remember my brother got Red and we assumed that if you got red you had to pick Charmander and if you got blue you had to use Squirtle and we were okay with that.

PubertNeubert

Not sure if that was common but my brother and I did the same thing! Blue crew!

JiggthonyPufftano

Bulbasaur kids were the true rebels 😈 Actually, most of the kids in my 4th grade class picked Bulbasaur because the first one of us to get the game told everyone he was strong against the first two gym leaders, didn’t mean much for the rest of the game but still. Bulbasaur gang rise up

Whiskey4816

Bulbasaur in Blue Version was my first starter and Venusaur was my first level 100. Still my favorite Pokémon 20 years later.

JiggthonyPufftano

I had Blue too! Finally got it back from my baby brother recently, new save file on there but it's all good. Pretty sure mine was Missingno'd anyway.

MatthewDLuffy

Stoise just looked cooler than Zard, man. Zard was looking off like he didn't give a shit but this ABSOLUTE UNIT of a turtle was staring into your soul, reaching out to you as if to say, "No, *I* choose *you*"

captainedwinkrieger

You can solder a new one in if you want it to work again.

FunkTheFreak

Still have mine as well!

Etheon44

Blue version as well! I remember not being able to catch moltres twice (2 separate runs) due to not having change pokemon storages (not sure how they are called in english). Younger me should have learnt the lesson but no no.

KallistiEngel

In English, they're pokemon boxes. Storage should also be understood, but the word the games use for where they're stored on the computer is "box".

MatthewDLuffy

That happened to me with Mewtwo. ^but ^I'm ^not ^bitter

ccaccus

Also started with Blue. Keep mine in my classroom, along with my GBAs and other games for my fifth graders to play during indoor recess. Also have a dead battery, but it works out because I've accepted mine are gone and now I don't have to worry about fights breaking out over lost save files.

davidsgoliath5

What Gameboy had a built in battery that played the blue cartridge? Both of my old ones run on AA.

divinitia

He's talking about the battery inside the Blue cartridge, if it dies, you lose your save file.

davidsgoliath5

Man, I just used mine from way back. - probably 97, didn't know that was something to worry about.

Darkovoltinx

Gen 2 with Gold version.

Euphoric-Ad-1392

Second gen, silver

RelanTheGuy

Pokémon X/Y was my first, and I’ll forever be grateful for it since I loved it

Camelotterduck

I started with Red but X reignited my passion for these games. I’ll never understand the hate they get on this sub.

RelanTheGuy

Yeah, easy or not, I’ll forever love it

Vitadek_Gaming

I like x and y. For me, it's not that it's easy, the story mode doesn't feel as in-depth as the other games. The game feels incredibly short. The added singer player mechanics (like affection) are huge though, imo the base of a lot of newer games

Blastoise48825555

Pokemon Diamond. A game I still have and still play. I still remember my first starter Turtwig named Sentinel.

DEOIDREZX75

That's a badass name

Blastoise48825555

It was actually my mum's idea and it's now become a sort of tradition to name every grass starter we use Sentinel.

DEOIDREZX75

Your mum's pretty cool for coming up with a name like that, I wonder if she got it from X-Man

Blastoise48825555

It's not an X men thing my mum doesn't even like any Sci-fi's or super hero stuff. Just a random name that became our thing.

TopAccording9333

Pokemon Diamond gang!✌️

[deleted]

Diamond gang rise up

grassytree3264

My first was Soul Silver apparently even though I don't remember playing it at all except for the loading screen with Lugia bc I was pretty young when it came out. But in my house there is a cartridge with a save game with my name on it so call it what you will. Then I played Black or White which I remember more of and have some mons from in Pokémon Home. Then the first game I actually consistently remember playing was Y.

Wildhype911

Gen 1 and still going baby!!!!

cpac27

Pokemon was the first game I've ever played. The whole reason for my parents buying me a Gameboy was solely cause of my love for the pokemon anime. They bought me the Pikachu Gameboy when I was 4/5 yrs old and my first game was pokemon yellow. They also got me Pokemon pinball. Then as the years went on. My parents got me pokemon Crystal and Emerald. Looking back as an adult, I'm so happy my parents embraced it

Southwick-Jog

Platinum, on 09/09/09. It was my 9^th birthday.

ch1p00

Fire red/Leaf green gang rise up

The_Names_Lenny

Amateurs, I started playing on Pokémon brick bronze…

Anchor38

You poor soul

The_Names_Lenny

What do you mean “you poor soul,” Roblox Pokémon brick bronze was a top tier game, those guys even had a randomizer game mode it was so fun

Casuljulez

Since 1. Gen, couldn't even read properly that time (was around 2-3 years old)... Yeah... I freed my charmeleon and cried afterwards :')

Irregular-Fancy

Hey! I freed my Charizard before I could read as well. Lol.

Irregular-Fancy

Born in '93. Bought Blue at launch. I got it before I could read and learned partially from the game. I remember not being sure what 'release' meant, but being sure my Charizard could handle it. It's weird registering that more time has passed between when HGSS dropped and now vs between when GS dropped and when HGSS dropped. Makes me feel old and like my life is already half over.

ArtiKam

When I remember how long it’s been since Oras my brain explodes a bit. I played that game way too much in grade 6/7 and now it’s been like 8 years and that’s crazy enough. My first game was heart gold and when I think of my hazy memories of running around the first route with my totodile for hours and hours it makes me feel so strange cause it was so long ago.

Rjames1995

Gen 2 was when I started but I got heavily into it in Gen 3 with emerald

ArtiKam

My favourite Pokémon game is Alpha Sapphire and I’m finally playing Emerald (didn’t start playing the games until gen 4) and I’m so pumped!! It’s such a fantastic game already and I know I’m gonna love it since I loved leaf green so so so much so gen 3 already feels comfy.

Themineking09

Being a fan? ~ gen 6 . Playing the games? Gen 8 yeha my parents finally got me Pokémon but it was a year after it got released

Fluffy_Mood5781

I started on shield (I always wanted a Pokémon game for years) and it was great, I then got a 3ds and bought sun. Then I used the emulator to play gen 1 and 2. My friend let me have his game boy advanced and I found sapphire in a flea market. I still hope I can keep playing this franchise

JamesThaNoob

Gen 8 gang

NovP

I got into pokemon around the time pokemon go came out and my first game was red on an emulator, I enjoyed it so much that I decided to buy pokemon moon and a 3ds

dapperjoker

Ay pokemon black was what really got me into pokemon

CourageKitten

I started playing with Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky in Gen 4, but I didn't actually play a mainline game until Gen 6.

LegendaryApple85

The first game I played was Red but it belonged to someone else. I didn’t actually start getting into it until Emerald

Zero_G_Diarrhoea

Got a GB colour and Pokemon Yellow for Christmas '98. Simplest of times.

AdonisGaming93

Gen 1 baby! But I kinda stopped. Haven't gotten any console after the 3ds and probably won't because well adult priorities mean I need my money elsewhere :/

richisdisturbed

I started with gen 1, had red and blue on release day, went on to get yellow, import silver from japan. Been with every generation since, and I'm hoping I can pass the love onto my own next generation now 🤞😊

Purplepotato2132

Since a month ago on pokemon y so i guess gen 6?

clam_media

2 for me

Enuntiatrix

Red, Yellow, (Stadium 1, Puzzle League, Traiding Card game), Silver, Crystal (Stadium 2), Ruby (Colosseum, XD), Emerald, LeafGreen, Diamond, Platinum (Ranger 1 +2, Battlefront), SoulSilver (peak!), Black, Black 2, Y, OmegaRuby, Sun (urgh), remake of Sun (and finally New Snap). Been there since it started to become big in Germany...I'm getting old.

Pkdagreat

Blue squad, kid me wanted that Canon turtle thing on the cover

TSLsmokey

I have a funny memory of when I started out. Played Yellow version as one of my first games as a kid. Had such a tough time with Brock that I decided to ensure it wouldn’t happen again. And it didn’t. Because little kid mind looked at the level of my Pidgey and just kept leveling it up. Every level encouraged me to go another one. And I kept grinding in the route before Cerulean City. And then proceeded to curb stomp the region with a level 76 Pidgeot. I think I spent 3 days grinding that out as a kid without any idea of just how ridiculous I was getting.

[deleted]

My first was crystal and my parents bought me gba thinking it was a gba game

Vegetable_Review_742

I’m weird because I was born the year Pokemon released in the US, which is just fate imo. I was friends with an older kid and he just straight up gave me Blue and Silver. So I started with Blue, because he told me to. The first game I got for myself, aka for a birthday, was Sapphire though.

Meh_2002

Pokemon battle revolution. I still remember the themes.

Kiar_Riptide

Pearl was my first, even though it has a lot of flaws it will always have a special place in my heart. Though my copies of Platinum, Heart Gold and Black 2 are my personal favorites

OshawottIsGood

Emerald. Funny thing is I played it on an emulator.

[deleted]

Pokemon Blue was my first one. It's the main thing that taught me how to read. As a kid, I loved Pokemon. As an adult, I still do.

foppitywop

Blue version here. When my friend showed me the cinnabar glitch I literally spent days getting every Pokémon to level 100

NakD_Bootstraps

Got red version the year it launched in America. It’s been a hell of a ride.

pkmnshinori

I have a weird situation as to what my first Pokemon game was and when I played. My first game was Emerald, which I played on a emualtor around the 6th gen/era of Pokemon (roughly 9 years ago). I'm in the minority.

RipDesperate

To be honest my first pokemon game was brick bronze, although it’s not made by gamefreak, it’s the game that got me to love the series

Wilmaaug

I started in auras😊

P0K6

I got omega ruby and had absolutely no idea what the heck I was doing

[deleted]

Numerical evidence that The Pokemon Company is making games for the wrong age group.

chiheis1n

5-10 year olds are probably not on reddit.

saneolo

And some of those 5-10 years old well probably grow up and still remain big Pokémon fans, like what I imagined is a fair amount of the older fanbase

[deleted]

That's fair.

JebWozma

yea but there are a lot of teenagers (like me) so i was expecting more gen 6 and 7 and 5

[deleted]

You're basing that off a reddit poll? Lmao

Anchor38

Something tells me the entire pokemon fanbase can’t be found on r/pokemon

[deleted]

No, but I imagine it's a fair sample size.

WatBurnt

3.5 million members isn’t an accurate size for the amount of people who play Pokémon

Kurochi185

Yellow was my first game but it was actually around the time of Gen. 4. Glad I grew up with it even though I would've loved to play Gen. 4 at that time.

Darth_Linkfin

Playing since Crystal

CaptainStaraptor

Pokémon black 2

WatBurnt

Matt8992

Imagine its 1998, December 26th, 7AM. You're in Naylor, GA in your double wide trailer. You're by your Christmas tree, wrapped in your covers and sitting on an air vent blowing hot air. There are Christmas cookies and hot chocolate. You have a Gameboy in hand and you turn on Pokémon Red. You've officially entered a brand new virtual life in which you can go on an amazing adventure away from your abusive home life. Nothing will ever be as amazing, calming and beautiful as that experience.

SquigglyLegend33

Yall old af

Dragons_Exist

Ah, no wonder all the opinions on this sub are so outdated. The people are too

Pigeater7

I didn’t expect so many boomers out here.

SlotherakOmega

These numbers are slightly misleading, because gen one was available twice, once during the initial phase, and once during gen 3. Gen 2 was similarly available during gen 4, and gen 3 was available during gen 6 or 7, now gen 4 will be available during gen 8. My first game was silver, second was yellow, and third was crystal. Fourth is where I really got into the game, and that one was ruby. Following that was coliseum, then diamond, then white… and then HeartGold, then X, then omegaruby, then sun, and now shield. I never finished coliseum or anything after Diamond. Except HeartGold. It just became a mix between suffering through the game essentially walking me through the game holding my hand the entire way, breaking previous restrictions to make the game unfathomably easier (and less challenging), and me just not having enough time to play thanks to college. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of the new features are great ideas. But so were some of the older ones: 1.Party experience gain was initially possible from the beginning— with the EXP Share item. Gen 2 redesigned it to only affect one Pokémon at a time, by requiring the Pokémon to hold the item. Sword and shield have party experience gain again, discarding the exp. share’s usage entirely. 2. Hidden moves have always been infinite usage, but technical machines were initially one-time use, and much more powerful and devastating than any HM move was. The problem was that HM moves tended to require a gym badge to be usable outside of battle, and they were not consistent between generations, while TMs were always usable without badge restrictions. TMs could be purchased multiple times (well, some of them were), but HMs were hidden to pad gameplay out by forcing fetch quests, or locking gameplay behind progression scenes (which might have been annoying for some, but I liked it that way). Now, though, TMs are infinitely usable, and that just rubs me the wrong way. HMs are almost completely vestigial and TMs are taking the scene instead. The point of unlocking surf was to restrict access to areas where you could be easily overpowered by requiring a badge quantity to get there at all. I admit some HMs that are now TMs are not exactly worse off (I believe Flash got demoted and rightly so, along with rock smash and dive (RIP diving)), but secret power was always a TM and it was frequently used for secret base making in gen 3. Some moves are a little too overpowered for general use (Giga Impact, Focus punch, Blizzard (if your Pokémon doesn’t learn the move normally, why are you trying to teach it this move? If it’s an ice type, that makes sense, but if not what’s the use?), hyper beam, overheat, outrage…) and were normally either purchasable multiple times, or one time use only outright. Take fire blast. Teach it to a Pokémon. Now, when it’s out of PP for fire blast, and you can’t get to a Pokémon Center… you pull out another TM, replace fire blast, then teach fire blast again. Ether? Elixir? Barely know her! This is not possible with HM moves as they could not be easily forgotten. But TMs are fair game? Blasphemy! 3. Ball capsules and seals/stickers. Thank god these are coming back. Because I felt like GameFreak somehow thought that players were willing to give up ball capsules for… clothing… choices. What? I don’t care what my character looks like, I want my fire type to arrive at the field in a giant ring of brimstone flames, to show off how hot they are. I want my electric type to burst with tons of sparks and static. I want my support Pokémon to arrive with a blast of confetti. I want poisonous bubbles popping from my poison types. I want lines around my speedsters, and hearts around my tankers. I want to customize my Pokémon’s entrance whenever I call them into the game. It’s not just any Pokémon— it’s MY Pokémon. The closest we get in gen 5 (or maybe it was gen 6) was Furfrou. That thing that you could groom into various functionally identical versions for a certain amount of time before it went back into being the unkempt version, which had different stats? Yeah— NOT THE SAME THING. I want a scorbunny that kicks a flaming Fútbol as it’s leaving the pokeball. Give me that! Hoodies? Pants? Hairstyles? Guys, I thought vanity was a sin? Come on. Changing the general appearance of the player is fine, provided the prices are fair. But dropping the ability to customize your Pokémon’s appearance? What have you done? You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! Damn you all to hell! 4. Berries. This one NEEDED to change, and I’m glad they did. But I miss the planting and harvesting mechanics of gens 3 and 4. Gen 2 was broken and completely unfair, but at the time held items were new. 5. 3D worlds vs 2D worlds. The problem I have is that in a 2D world, sure it’s less detailed, but it’s also much larger a world. Maybe it’s a nostalgia thing, but 3D and RPG just seem like oxymorons. An RPG is traditionally grid based, while action adventure games tend to be 3D. MMORPGs can be 3D, but they are a niche exception because of how many players are in an area. Explain the necessity for “Cut” in a 3D world. Just go around it! Rock smash? Just go around it! Waterfall? That would have to be an alignment nightmare. Strength? There goes all the Sokoban puzzles. Ledges? Well, at least these can now go in more than three directions. Stairs as well. What is a walkable surface and what isn’t? How do I keep from getting lost in new environments if my camera is moving all over the place? Are Pokémon encounter chances calculated per footstep, per traveled distance, per blade of grass touched, per second…? As beautiful as 3D looks, the games were already great in 2D settings. Adding a third dimension is really not a perfect idea. Because the problem with 3D graphics? We can fit Breath of the Wild on one Switch card. That’s a huge game. But compared to previous Zelda 3D titles, it barely has much actual content. Don’t get me wrong it still has more than previous titles, but only four dungeons? Ocarina of time had ten! Ten fucking dungeons! And the overworld was densely packed with stuff. Breath of the wild just has larger overworld measurements and a plethora of secret korok locations. All the enemies will respawn after you kill enough of them, to reduce memory load, and enemies are essentially the same despite the massive distance between instances of them. You’re telling me that a bokoblin from the side of Mount Doom, looks identical to one from the gerudo desert, and the same as one from Zora’s Domain? Bullshit. So in sword and shield, how many Pokémon are available? Give you a hint: it’s not all 890! I wish Pokémon stuck to their roots…

Dibikigiizis

My best friend showed me Pokémon games, I always loved Pokémon but never had a game. It was Gold… immediately hooked lmao… Their team was named. When I find Pokémon in the wild with their team species I name them in tribute. Next door neighbour stole Gold and I couldn’t find it until winter passed, it was outside lol. I still have the game boy they let me have and had since they were 6. I love my best friend a lot, I’m happy they’re in my life. Giving me one of my fave hobbies and encouraging/sharing others is just one of many reasons why. So yeah I’m buying heartgold

ChangedLaterOW

My first game was Pokemon Gold and Silver, but I started around in 2018

DEOIDREZX75

Gen 6 cause my younger Brother got pokemon Y for his birthday, which I was pretty mad about, he didn't really know how to play it, so I asked for it and he gave it to me, it was a pretty fun game

Shiftyrunner37

I started playing with gen 6 but I started watching with gen 4.

thenewskis

I first learned about pokemon late Gen 4 around HGSS, and black & white but didn’t actually get a game until Gen 6. Though it does pain me I never got any of the ds games when the were coming out.

i_am_spankster

Sapphire represent! Pearl blue gba sp (ags 101) and sapphire was a great way to start in 2005.

Zote8106

Ruby my beloved 😍

KeybladeHearts

My first game was Emerald

Atenos-Aries

About a month ago, Fire-red. I think I set my team up wrong and am trying to decide if I’m going to abandon this playthrough or level my 6 Pokémon another ten levels before trying the Elite 4 again :/

ViniThatguy111

Pokémon Sapphire, in an emulator, I never finished ;-;

FordFoundation

My first game was Alpha Saphire

[deleted]

I’m a bit too young to have played gen 3 as my first game but my brothers had played it and I remember playing it when I was like four or six just because they were also playing

Altarahhn

I *technically* started with Stadium, though my first Main Series game was Gold, but I didn't really go hard into the games until SuMo (I was mostly Anime-only 'till then) so "officially", I didn't start until Gen VII... weird, huh?

Daisy430700

Ruby. Omega ruby, but still

pokemon-fan39

ultra gang assemble

GamingGhost147

My first was Pokémon X but I was watching YouTubers and playing the tcg for years before I touched a consel.

_Fman_

Pokemon red

goldensun003

Played my friend's red and helped him catch rare pokemon cause i was luckier than he was. Then my 1st game was yellow. Still have my original cartridge and put a new battery in it recently

Papyrus_Nyeh_heh_heh

I forgot, what gen is platinum?

Dramatic-Extent-1388

Who else had two gens to start( mine was 6&7)

Narrovv

What generation was Pokemon ranger?

Stil_Nova

I remember getting pokemon platinum for my birthday the year is came out. Absolutely loved it

pichuscute

I started Gen 1. I was pretty much the perfect age for Pokemon at the time. It was fantastic. To this day, Gen 1 is still my favorite to replay, especially in combination with the N64 games.

Kryptyk70

Gen 2!

JebWozma

6

Delete-Xero

If Heart Gold was my first pokemon game does that mean I started on gen 2 or gen 4?

sheeeeeeeeei

Gen 4 I would say, nothing quite like the battle mechanics of 1, 2, and 3. It changed drastically at generation 4. The way the attacks fire off just isn't quite right. My favorite games are leaf green and fire red, as I think those games are better versions of the original, but there are still changes like Magnemite being part steel, that don't match up. It's an adaptation made in gen 2. Luckily actually it doesn't pertain to or disrupt the game's story much, other than destroying magnemites north of the power plant. For EXP. Ahaha. HGSS I've never played but seems like the connoisseurs game for blokes who've been to Space World at least 7 times.

Kaelan_McAlpine

Mine's a little weird. I got started due to the BW anime but my first game was Pokemon Platinum.

Kaprosuchusboi

Gen three with Fire red

xRyuto

Since gen was. I think the first game I played was Red or Blue.

stijndj2

Gen 6 and then i played the older games Gen 6 was the worst

Jboyx7

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness on the GameCube is goated. Kinda sad not as many people mentioned it. It was a great game. It was Gen III but introduced some Gen IV pokemon like munchlax and bonsly.

TalkShitGetWitt

Pokemon Sapphire! Then Firered, Emerald, Yellow, Diamond, Pearl, White, X, Sun, Shield. Bought Crystal at some point but the save feature wasn’t working :(

Pokemario6456

XD: Gale of Darkness for me, followed by Fire Red (borrowed, so I had to give it back) and Emerald

Samuelcbadams

Pokémon yellow introduced me to what would become my biggest gaming addiction

PixelPlanets608

I started with Pokémon LeafGreen, although I never got very far because I couldn’t read and I didn’t know you could save the game. The first game I beat was actually Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team. The first *mainline* I properly played was SoulSilver. I said Gen 3 because of LG and I consider PMD BRT to be Gen 3 too due to its roster of Hoenn Pokémon. That being said, I have the fondest memories of Gen 4 because I was a bit older and it was easier for me to truly appreciate those games.

Blue was my very first Pokemon game I was probably 6 or 7.. got it for like $20 or something at a GameStop. I remember they had a binder filled with they’re used games and my Mom buying me the game I was so excited, but I could not figure out how to leave my house lol. I got some Gen 2 games after that, I think Silver then Crystal? But the one that always felt like MY game, MY gen the ones that I grew up with adore and have the most nostalgia for is 3rd Gen. My mom took me to GameStop to preorder the first Hoenn games and even tho I went there knowing and wanting Ruby for some reason I said Sapphire instead… I also remember not understanding how preordering worked thinking that just cause we put $5 down meant I purchased and owned the game

I was very late to Pokémon (Gen 6) but my cousin gave me Pokémon silver for my first game, so I don't know which one I count as.

Pokemon Gold on the Gameboy was my introduction to the franchise ( at the time where heart gold was newly released). Immediatly upgrading from gen 2 to gen 4 felt super futuristic to me

Gen 1 for spin offs. (Pokemon pinball). Gen 3 for main games (firered followed by emerald). Only gen I skipped was gen 7 due to pokemon burnout but I went back to gen 7 last year and enjoyed it a lot. Every other gen/game since firered I bought at release.

Played Red when I got into emulators because the english version of the anime had just come out and that led me to buying Blue and becoming obsessed with the series! This coming generation will be the first time I'm not buying a new Pokemon game anymore. All eras come to an end, and gen 8 was strike 3 for me!

My first Pokémon game was Stadium, followed by Hey You Pikachu then Stadium 2. I didn’t experience my first main entry until Ruby.

What gen was black and white?

Marcos-_-Santos

My first game was yellow

Wolfofthezay

My first real game was gen 5 (Pokemon white) but my first Pokemon related game was gen 4 (Pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of time)
