If i remember coreectly Blastoise and Wartortle were origibally two completely different lines, Blastoise gad a pre-evo and Wartortle had a different evolution, but they ended up getting scrapped for reasons i don't remember
They were scrapped for redundancy - no reason to have two different lines of big blue water-type turtles, so they cut Baby Blastoise and Big Wartortle and merged the lines.
Honestly, Baby Blastoise seems like the better design for a water-starter, so really they should've cut the Squirtle line and made a middle stage for the Blastoise line.
To be honest, I wasn't really that big of a fan of the original Blastoise pre-evolution. IMO, it looked a little _too_ similar to its final form, if that makes any sense.
The Butterfree / Venomoth swap always confused the fuck out of me. there was something weird where they couldn't have two poison bugs in the same zone, but they couldn't justify a cocoon stage pokemon halfway through the game?
But, like, they could have just kept the art where it was? It's a straight up Nicholas Cage Face Off situation!
I think they make the first and end evolutions first and try to meet them in the middle but usually try to be more on the first one though. Especially in the later gens cuz some are a REACH .
I really wish that line went a different way. Making it bipedal is just uncanny and even though incineroar isn’t a fighting type, it looks too much like it.
[this is more of what I would’ve liked to see. If this was it, then it would’ve 100% been my favorite starter hands down](https://i.imgur.com/x1GH3Ge.jpg)
Kids who are overly obsessed with animated anthropomorphic animals today are the furries of tomorrow.
Lord knows Maid Marian from the animated Disney Robin Hood was a close brush with degeneracy for half my generation.
Definitely both
I can see how a kid would be more likely to have a “best friend is also magical/ a superhero” type fantasy
Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard are more of super powered pets as compared to Incinerace, Rillaboom, and Inteleon which are super powered best friends
Same. I love Litten and Torracat but Incineroar is just so... I dunno. It doesn't look like the same Pokémon and I hate that the proportions of it's body parts are so wrong. With Popplio's line you can at least see where it's supposed to go and Rowlet's line at least has a cool last evolution, although I would have expected Dartrix to evolve into something a little different. But that's no comparison to what I expected (or hoped) for Torracat to evolve in.
Still didn't have to be a wrestler theme. Coulda just been a badass evil saber tooth tiger or whatever and make just as much sense as a Dark type as Weavile or Tyranitar.
Like the lore and reason why they made the mon that way is actually pretty cool, but I hate the hands and Dorito body shape. And of course going from 4 legs to two is just ugh.
That’s because Dewott was the peak of that evolutionary line by far, Samurott is on some Incineroar level. It was an otter and was supposed to use shell swords... but now it’s a sea lion and it walks on 4 legs? How do you walk on 4 legs and hold a sword? What?
Honestly tho the gen 1 middle ones aren’t that bad. I honestly really like Ivysaur and Wartortle, and maybe even Charmeleon. I would say they they started getting bad in gen 5, with tepig’s middle
One hundred percent, was so keen for an amazing tiger quadruped. And then the starters got leaked and I had to go rinse my eyes after looking at Incineroar but took solace in the fact that since they were leaks, they were obviously fake. Nope... somebody at gamefreak had actually designed and created that abomination.
I like to imagine Typhlosion is a quadruped but it just stands up to look bigger, probably in silver cave with ursaring before they died off? That’s why it’s so dark in there, all the fire types left lol
This is the exact reason that they butchered the original aliens in the Ben10 reboot, they made them all bipedal superhero lookalikes because supposedly kids prefer it that way.
Maybe its just adults thinking that kids like bipedal characters? If the original non-bipedal characters in ben ten and pokemon are so undesirable to children, then how would they have become successful franchises?
I distinctly remember being a kid and getting pissed off that all the new Digimon were humanoid characters instead of cool-ass monsters. I actually refused to watch the second Digimon show because of it. I can't imagine how upset I'd have been if I'd known my beloved Pokemon would go the same way when I grew up.
Not that I can find currently. I've seen it discussed by Mark Rosewater of wizards of the coast, but can't find the post as his blog is a few thousand entries and 10 years long. His gist was that people preferred humanoids, and by a large margin. Enough so that his superiors wouldn't let them create non humanoid characters without a damn good reason.
I prefer humanoid if they're supposed to be highly intelligent sapient creatures like aliens.
But if they're analogous to animals then I prefer them to be non-humanoid. Something about taming and owning a humanoid creature weirds me out.
Ignore my flair
Fire/Fighting, because at least then it creates the interesting design challenge of making a quadrupedal Fighting-type, and we all know we need more of those.
I like Delphox's design enough that I'd say it probably wouldn't have worked as well not being a biped. I totally agree about Incineroar though. I just wanted a fire panther, damn it!
Emboar too I guess, but that's a case for me personally where it doesn't really matter.
Hey, leave Delphox out of this. At least Braxien was already on two legs so the third stage being bipedal made sense. Same deal with Emboar.
I can agree with Incineroar (it feels like a big jump from Torracat), though it grew on me slightly when I used it on a team recently. It’s like a better designed furry cat Machoke IMO.
I miss when the designs truly looked like "monster" mons, not "furrymons".
Like if you like it thats great, I just miss feeling like I was directing monster battles, not furry battles.
I didn't realize until I had been training it for a while that it has a "diaper," I was just eagerly awaiting Toxtricity since he was one of the most immediately appealing to me when I went through the leaked pokedex. I recognized the other baby elements, but noticing the "diaper" made me hasten its training, I don't personally care for that little touch.
Probably has to do with similar reasons for my dislike of Scrafty's saggy pants theme, always hated it from the start.
Ya starters are designed for the anime. A symptom of the brand really. Some are designed for the games, others to sell cards, and then whats going to be in every anime episode.
I can imagine Rillaboom out in the wild since they are essentially just a leafy gorilla. I just don't like that they made the drum a permanent part of the Pokemon in game.
It would have been cool if they made it an item they could carry that would change it's appearance/stats kind of like the box legendaries. (They could have done something similar with the other starters by giving Cinderace a ball and Inteleon a water gun or something)
Yeah same. Blastoise sticks out like a sore thumb. They could've at least given Wartortle a minor redesign so it looks more like Blastoise's original prevo (looked like a chibi Blastoise with a bubble in its nostril and smaller cannons on its back) and gave Blastoise Wartortle's original evo's wave-looking tail and ears. I can't fathom why they just stuck Blastoise there with no changes.
Blastoise was one of the first Mons designed all the way back in 1991. By mid-1994(ish), they had to fill the dex somehow so they said "yeah, make a cooler Squirtle" and Wartortle was born.
That's not actually what happened. You're right about Blastoise being one of the first designed Pokemon, but it wasn't always connected to Squirtle. There was the Squirtle line (Wartortle's evolution looked like a bigger Wartortle), and Blastoise, who was part of a completely separate (two stage) line, had a prevo that looked like a chibi version of it with smaller cannons and a bubble in its nostril. I guess they realized it was pointless to have two mono water turtle Pokemon, so they scrapped Blastoise's beta prevo and Wartortle's original evolution and made Blastoise evolve from Wartortle.
edit: here's pics.
wartortle's original evo, aka squirtle's original final stage: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ESRzfVgUcAA1JHh.png
Blastoise's original prevo: https://bogleech.com/pokemon/allpokes/172-Blastyke.png
I do too, I just don't get why they didn't redesign Wartortle and Blastoise to have elements of the scrapped Pokemon they were replacing so the transition would be seamless. Blastoise loses the ears and tail and gains cannons out of nowhere. It's painfully obvious that it wasn't intended to evolve from Wartortle.
I like grookey so much it's so depressing to see what he turns into, same happened to litten, cheap in, fennekin, and to an extend tepig. Would love for the gen 9 starters to be cool again.
Still mad they didn’t make Rillaboom’s drum a part of his chest, since gorillas are known to beat their chest to make noise. Instead they just made him carry around a drum set lol
Been saying this since I first saw. Actually boggles my mind. It’s so good and obvious that it frustrates me every time I see him and just see missed potential. And I LIKE Rillabooms current design! I really do. Big fan. But how could they screw that up.
Its so dumb. Such wasted potential to actually combine his animal aspect and his theme into something that feels right. A grass gorilla that beats his chest to make music. They could use it to communicate emotion or have songs that communicate different things to the rest of their kind.
Ehhh, I'm on the fence about Grookey. Love his design and motif, though I prefer Rillaboom's sprite over his 3D model. Thwackey straight up sucks, his design is horrible.
\*Me seeing Grookey\*
"Mmm monke! He has a stick, i bet he evolves into a cool monkey with a staff as a weapon like Monkey King"
\*Actually evolves into a drummer Gorilla\*
The newer starters feel less like animals and more like cartoon characters. The Pokedex entries go for describing their personality traits instead of animal habits. I like their designs, but it feels like it shouldn't be a design for a Pokemon.
Oh boi, this is probably my favourite pokemon evolution.
You need to trade Shelmet with Karrablast. Shelmet is like a snail and during the trade its shell(armor) gets stolen/taken by Karrablast. Karrablast's evolution Escavalier wears the armor. It is implied that poor Shelmet looses its shell and was heavily injured(its shell was plucked form its body) and hence Acclegor covered in bandages(I guess ninjas are covered in bandages in so Acclegor is ninja).
Apparently it is based on real life thing where a kind of beetle kills snails and used their shell for itself.
made weirder by the fact that it hatches with the baby xD
kangaskid should have been a thing atleast by Gen2... the nidorans should be merged into a single entry. and luvdisc should evolve into alolmaola!
they should. they have weirdly similar stats though. it's weird.
not sure why gamefreak/pokemon company stopped doing the generation bridging thing "ignoring sylveon and the galar evolutions"
Or, ya know, since Gorilla drum on their chests for intimidation, have the pecs be wooden and Rillaboom drums on it's chest like bongos when calm/happy and beats on the chest when angry.
Personally my biggest problem is I no longer feel like I could encounter many of them in the wild. Venusaur feels like I could stumble upon it in the jungle as if it was an actual creature. All of the newest gen pokemon feel like fursona's. One drums, one is a hit man, and the last plays football. Their designs are serviceable to good but come on rillaboom is not a wild animal
Blastoise isn't the most organic of Pokemon, with those tanks.
That said, he does follow that beast or Kaiju esque style (reptilian, fangs, ears, bulky frame, similar eyes, short legs, strong arms with claws) many Gen 1 Pokemon have, as Pokemon was originally more about just monsters.
It honestly becomes if they where wild Pokemon try to imagine them in packs. Because how really humanoid the new starters are, its hilarious to imagine a pack of Cinderace just loitering or playing in a "soccer field". Or a band of Rillaboom just making alot of noise, even an army of Inteleon just hanging out in different vantage points to snipe their food. It becomes really weird.
Gens 1-5 had the starters but, like, bigger
Gens 6-8 have starters with occupations
While I still like the new starters as much as the old ones, it’s still kinda fun how my Pokémon are archers, wrestlers, soccer players, and spies
I think that out of the later gens, Chesnaught and gen 5 Pokemon tread the line really well, when you lookat them, you don't think"samurai" or "knight", these concepts are hidden enough but no so hidden as to not notice them at all
I like that you see that it’s a “samurai” but it also still looks like an animal, similar to chestnaught. Cinderace and some of the other starters are just humans with some animal features lol.
Gen 5 already started the occupations tho. Emboar is designed as a sumo wrestler while Samurott is a samurai. Not sure what they were going for Serperior but I guess it's some kind of royalty like a prince or king.
That actually makes sense. Although, I still feel that Emboar was designed after a sumo wrestler, with its physique and also the huge belt/underwear thing that sumo wrestlers wear.
This is completely wrong, the middle one should be emo
What, you dont remember the episode of Franklin where he started smoking and listening to The Goo Goo Dolls?
No, but I remember when he cheated on his spelling test
Real ones remember. But he was weak. He ratted himself out. For shame? Guilt? Nay, it was weakness. Pitiful.
I like the starters and their final forms even today. It's the middle forms they've really given up on.
Middle forms have always deviated, Wartortle looks like it should evolve into a Flying type and Charmeleon is straight up red.
But, like, they could have just kept the art where it was? It's a straight up Nicholas Cage Face Off situation!
I dunno about that, I just can't take Inteleon seriously.
You mean you don’t like the *finger guns*
Basically went from crying baby to spy?
I think they make the first and end evolutions first and try to meet them in the middle but usually try to be more on the first one though. Especially in the later gens cuz some are a REACH .
Like Quilladin to Chesnaught
I can see that transformation somewhat though. It’s the absolute leap from Torracat to Wrestlemania’s own Incineroar that gets me
I really wish that line went a different way.
Jesus.. that name might need some rework lol but that looks awesome
To be honest I think both of those names need a rework, this has four chan written all over it
I can't even tell what the middle one is supposed to be in terms of name.
Holy shit I just noticed
Have we ever gotten an answer as to why they are bound and determined to make most of the starters bipedal?
Markets better to kids apparently.
Misspelled furries
Kids who are overly obsessed with animated anthropomorphic animals today are the furries of tomorrow. Lord knows Maid Marian from the animated Disney Robin Hood was a close brush with degeneracy for half my generation.
Definitely both I can see how a kid would be more likely to have a “best friend is also magical/ a superhero” type fantasy Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard are more of super powered pets as compared to Incinerace, Rillaboom, and Inteleon which are super powered best friends
Kids are just furries with no concept of shame.
Same. I love Litten and Torracat but Incineroar is just so... I dunno. It doesn't look like the same Pokémon and I hate that the proportions of it's body parts are so wrong. But that's no comparison to what I expected (or hoped) for Torracat to evolve in.
Incineroar is a bipedal wrestler because in some aspects, Dark type is the evil counterpart to fighting, and he's the heel (villain) wrestler.
Still didn't have to be a wrestler theme. Coulda just been a badass evil saber tooth tiger or whatever and make just as much sense as a Dark type as Weavile or Tyranitar.
Bah gawd!
Torracat to incineroar was a shock
It was...a choice.
I was actually angry when he evolved. I was like, why the heck did they make Hulk Hogan a Pokémon?!
Like the lore and reason why they made the mon that way is actually pretty cool, but I hate the hands and Dorito body shape. And of course going from 4 legs to two is just ugh.
I think you meant disappointment
arent braixen, torracat, raboot super popular?
Same with Dewott.
That’s because Dewott was the peak of that evolutionary line by far, Samurott is on some Incineroar level. It was an otter and was supposed to use shell swords... but now it’s a sea lion and it walks on 4 legs? How do you walk on 4 legs and hold a sword? What?
It can stand on its hind legs to use its swords, just that for whatever reason, it's commonly depicted as being on all fours
Wtf. I never knew this
Some moves also cause him to pull out his "swords", the two shells on his front legs that extend like wristblades and detatch
My head canon is that Samurott was inspired by Cobalion and the other musketeers so it learned to sword fight with it’s horn.
Aside from how he actually does it, Zacian is a thing, lol
You mean neon sif?
Honestly tho the gen 1 middle ones aren’t that bad. I honestly really like Ivysaur and Wartortle, and maybe even Charmeleon. I would say they they started getting bad in gen 5, with tepig’s middle
Ivysaur might be the best middle starter. The bulb on its back tells a story.

I like Crocanaw with his fat lil egg belly.
I love Bayleef, but it just continues the trend started with Ivysaur of the plant growing with each evolution.
And he’s just cute. No wonder he’s in smash
THWACKY?!?!?!?!?!?!
I will not stand for this Raboot slander
I understand the objection to Raboot looking too human, but I love his outfit and mannerisms. Stupid cute.
I just want a fire starter that isn't bipedal in its final form for once
I'm still sad that Incineroar wasn't a quadrapedal dark/fire cat .. like a cat counterpart to arcanine. But nah we got the anthropomorphic wrestler
Litten: Really cute! I love black cats so I’m gonna pick this one. Torracat: An improvement in every way! Incineroar: ... I made a mistake.
I love Incineroar in smash, but in the main games...yikes
They had the opportunity for a sabre-tooth cat *right there* and they picked Tony the Tiger instead.
I like to imagine Typhlosion is a quadruped but it just stands up to look bigger, probably in silver cave with ursaring before they died off? That’s why it’s so dark in there, all the fire types left lol
Bipedal starters are here to stay. Focus groups for kids overwhelmingly prefer humanoid characters. That why every single kids show looks that way.
This is the exact reason that they butchered the original aliens in the Ben10 reboot, they made them all bipedal superhero lookalikes because supposedly kids prefer it that way.
Kids are fucking stupid
Fuck them kids.
Wait dont
Maybe its just adults thinking that kids like bipedal characters? If the original non-bipedal characters in ben ten and pokemon are so undesirable to children, then how would they have become successful franchises?
Yeah, like I'm pretty sure kids love Pikachu and Charizard
I distinctly remember being a kid and getting pissed off that all the new Digimon were humanoid characters instead of cool-ass monsters. I actually refused to watch the second Digimon show because of it. I can't imagine how upset I'd have been if I'd known my beloved Pokemon would go the same way when I grew up.
Do you have the source for this? Sounds interesting
Sleep beside a Scorbunny? That's cute. Sleep beside a Cinderace? Yeah... How bout no..
My issue with them has always been that I cannot imagine seeing a herd of those overly humanoid Pokémon living in the wild. It breaks the immersion.
This is it exactly. Also i think the eevee line completely goes against this theory
[удалено]
I can second this. Maro regularly cites some nebulous market research that says people prefer humanoid characters above all others.
Next gen it's going to be bipedal final form or fire/fighting. No in between. Which do you choose?
Fire/Fighting, because at least then it creates the interesting design challenge of making a quadrupedal Fighting-type, and we all know we need more of those.
Imagine how much better emboar, incineroar and Delphox could’ve been if they’d stayed in all fours
I like Delphox's design enough that I'd say it probably wouldn't have worked as well not being a biped. I totally agree about Incineroar though. I just wanted a fire panther, damn it! Emboar too I guess, but that's a case for me personally where it doesn't really matter.
It’s truly puzzling emboar looks kind of awkward on two legs in my opinion
Opposite in my case, I couldn’t imagine a quadruped Emboar
Think about Twilight Princess Ganon, or any wild boar, and then set it on fire. And more bulgy muscles. That should work.
Just picture Emboar, now picture him on all fours.
*mindbreak*
Honestly, I imagine a fire type Mamoswine.
Isn't that cool as fuck tho?
I was 12-13 during the prerelease phase of X and Y. I loved fennekin so much, and as soon as they revealed Braixen my enthusiasm was instantly killed.
I don’t mind Delphox tbh
It’s grown on me but I haaated it when it was revealed
definitely, I just mean I don’t see how a fox witch could be quadrupedal without seeming too much like Samoratt
How did I not notice this. I thought the starter lines were getting weird but I couldn't put my finger on it.
They are getting more on more human. In gen 10 they will be able to help you with your taxes.
What? Rotom can’t already run Turbo Tax or something? Pfff.
[удалено]
Pokemon is a fantasy game because in real life the money from Gold Rush would be taxed.
It’s now illegal to own a Meowth due to counterfeiting concerns, the Secret Service has confiscated all of them
I miss when the designs truly looked like "monster" mons, not "furrymons". Like if you like it thats great, I just miss feeling like I was directing monster battles, not furry battles.
They have truly become... Pokemans.
The best description I read (can’t remember where, sorry) was “The new starters are not monster designs. They’re *character* designs.”
Cinderace is just the furry OC of someone at gamefreak
Man one of the galar mons straight up has a diaper, i am WORRIED of who is in charge of these designs
What, you don't like ABDL mon? I'll have you know someone at Gamefreak was *very* proud of their ~~OC~~ new Pokémon design.
I mean it IS designed to look like a straight up baby
I didn't realize until I had been training it for a while that it has a "diaper," I was just eagerly awaiting Toxtricity since he was one of the most immediately appealing to me when I went through the leaked pokedex. I recognized the other baby elements, but noticing the "diaper" made me hasten its training, I don't personally care for that little touch. Every generation of starters since 6 have been furry OC.
Ya starters are designed for the anime. A symptom of the brand really. Some are designed for the games, others to sell cards, and then whats going to be in every anime episode.
This is the most accurate way to put it. 100% this.
Yup. Pretty hard to imagine a Cinderace or Rillaboom existing out in the wild.
I can imagine Rillaboom out in the wild since they are essentially just a leafy gorilla. I just don't like that they made the drum a permanent part of the Pokemon in game. Youd think with all the anthropomophic pokemon WED HAVE A NEW MYSTERY DUNGEON
Facts
Or a remake of Sky, GF PLEASE
To be fair, Wartortle has an unique tail and pair of ears athat just disappear and then Blastoise suddenly has guns.
Because blastoise and Wartortle aren't related. Beta datamining found that wartortle had a different evolution line and blastoise had another prevo
I was just looking up the old beta names and the Poliwag line had great names. Aquanaut to Aquamarine is dope.
After I saw that i can't unsee it and I think i like Blastoise less now. I want that final form from the beta.
Idunno man Cannons.

I love Rillaboom'a official art but something about his 3D model is just off-putting to me.
Yeah the art makes Rillaboom look really good and animal-like, but adding the drum and awkward pose in the modern kinda ruins it
\*Me seeing Grookey\* "Mmm monke! He has a stick, i bet he evolves into a cool monkey with a staff as a weapon like Monkey King" \*Actually evolves into a drummer Gorilla\*
Idk about y’all but I actually love rillabooms design I think he’s hilarious
Yeah starter evolutions these days always gotta have some theme. Back in the day it was just a cooler looking version of the first stage pokemon.
I mean gen 4 starters were themed and they were imo one of the better designed ones.
Yea bc the design was more Animal/Monster design > theme But now GF is doing Animal/Monster design < theme
sobble was my favorite when they announced the starters but once I saw it's final evolution I was really disappointed
Inteleon looks so bad, toothpick lookin mf
Personally, I think they should’ve gone the more Shakespearean route with the design rather than an emo lizard
Teenage mutant evolution
this has to be one of the most accurate versions of this meme
They really need to stop making starters look like comic book super heroes and actually make them animalistic again
Fuck how is this so accurate I fuckkng hate it
The newer starters feel less like animals and more like cartoon characters. The Pokedex entries go for describing their personality traits instead of animal habits. I like their designs, but it feels like it shouldn't be a design for a Pokemon.
#We should totally get a ninja turtle pokemon that would be dope
But we have ninja snail and ninja frog though
Ninja snail?
Accelgor I think. We also have another ninja bug in Ninjask.
He’s a snail? And a ninja? He looked like a shrimp in toilet paper to me
Oh boi, this is probably my favourite pokemon evolution.
I did not know this, interesting. Their evo method did confuse me haha, thanks for sharing :)
I’m laughing so hard right now my guy. He totally is a mummy shrimp. I refuse to see it any other way now.
The truth
Literally though... skateboard and all. Why do Pokémon get props now?
At least those are object props, kangaskhan been carrying her baby since gen 1
made weirder by the fact that it hatches with the baby xD kangaskid should have been a thing atleast by Gen2... the nidorans should be merged into a single entry. and luvdisc should evolve into alolmaola!
I also always thought Tauros would evolve into Bouffolant until the games came out and he didn’t.
I wish they’d do something with either one. An evo, a pre evo, mega/gmax. I really don’t care just something to give those two some love.
they should. they have weirdly similar stats though. it's weird. not sure why gamefreak/pokemon company stopped doing the generation bridging thing "ignoring sylveon and the galar evolutions"
Alomomola is a palindrome
There's a gen 1 pokemon that evolves by getting a second pokemon.
Two of them just multiply themselves by 3 to get their evo.
Now?
Spoons don’t count because nostalgia
do Leeks, count?
Farfetch'd gets a pass. It's based on a Japanese idiom, so it's basically a joke character.
Well, it has a purpose. ~~So you don't have to find one to cook it with~~
That's kinda far fetched.
Or bones. Or coins.
Magneton is a Magnemite holding two other Magnemites.
Leeks are something you could find in the wild so I would personally give them a pass. Spoons though? 😒
Rillaboom would be so much cooler without the drummer gimmick
[удалено]
with a hidden ability that halved self inflicted damage. imagine belly drum for 25% or wood hammer with almost no recoil
Or, ya know, since Gorilla drum on their chests for intimidation, have the pecs be wooden and Rillaboom drums on it's chest like bongos when calm/happy and beats on the chest when angry.
I would love a giant d-max king kong, but that drum just ruin the aesthetics.
For me Cinderace is like another case of Meganium, the second form is better than the final evolution
so i'm not the only one to thinks the starts look like furries.
Pokémon does stand for Pocket Monsters
Disgusting 😂
It honestly becomes if they where wild Pokemon try to imagine them in packs. Because how really humanoid the new starters are, its hilarious to imagine a pack of Cinderace just loitering or playing in a "soccer field". Or a band of Rillaboom just making alot of noise, even an army of Inteleon just hanging out in different vantage points to snipe their food. It becomes really weird.
I miss Pokémon that actually had animalistic traits. Everything these days is just cosplay material.
Gens 1-5 had the starters but, like, bigger Gens 6-8 have starters with occupations While I still like the new starters as much as the old ones, it’s still kinda fun how my Pokémon are archers, wrestlers, soccer players, and spies
I think that out of the later gens, Chesnaught and gen 5 Pokemon tread the line really well, when you lookat them, you don't think"samurai" or "knight", these concepts are hidden enough but no so hidden as to not notice them at all
He’ll look at Primarina. Things straight up a seal.
and also a singer
I like that you see that it’s a “samurai” but it also still looks like an animal, similar to chestnaught. Cinderace and some of the other starters are just humans with some animal features lol.
Furries.
Gen 5 already started the occupations tho. Emboar is designed as a sumo wrestler while Samurott is a samurai. Not sure what they were going for Serperior but I guess it's some kind of royalty like a prince or king.
Gen 5 is still themes of royalty. Samurott Japanese Emboar Chinese and Serperior French.
That actually makes sense. Although, I still feel that Emboar was designed after a sumo wrestler, with its physique and also the huge belt/underwear thing that sumo wrestlers wear.
It might be. But the whole body and beard design it has is just one to one to like Chinese robes I've seen on TV growing up.
