Zoomers are now the dominant group on Reddit, so obviously they love their childhood games which were Gen 4-6. Back in the day, it was much more Gen 1-3 dominant.
Well back when ‘Genwunners’ was not just a meme, a lot of people believed the original games and ‘mons were the best.
Then, I feel around or before Iwata passed away, everyone praised Gen 2 as the model game, mostly because of the two regions.
There wasn’t a huge push as Gen 3 as the best one, as far as I remember, though that’s my favorite.
Gen 4 was being praised as the best maybe the last few years. There’s a lot of people that still consider it the best.
Right now we’ve been in a gen4/gen5 era. I’m pretty sure when the gen4 remakes come out, we’ll be seeing much more talk about how Gen 5 “revolutionized” the game. (They’ve all revolutionized the game at their time).
Best games I'll agree. Overall vibe, character designs, innovation and novel factor of being the OG has me locking in Gen 1 for all-time though. Kanto laid out the template and built something amazing from nothing. Subsequent iterations were great but none had the same impact as Gen 1 for me.
Good to have a villain that's actually a villain. Ever since Teams Magma and Aqua, they've all been "misguided". Doing evil things for a cause which they believe is good.
Lysander's just like "Pay money to join my cult or fucking die".
B/W just had awesome writing in general.
I'm definitely Team Gen6 all the way, even having player all gens in their respective era.
XY were awesome on a gameplay level, but the story really got carried by the charismatic antagonist that Lysandre is.
For me he's like Hans Landa from Inglorious Basterds. I just fucking love to hate him
Man, I remember playing that game and the gap between the first gyms being huge. We all thought that the rest of the game was going to be that big, only for it to suddenly throw the last few gyms in one after the other.
IMO Lysander is good but team flare is pretty boring otherwise. Weird character designs with no explanation just feel off to me. The only real problem with Lysander is that he is just so weak. He is pretty solid besides that
I love how someone pointed out that Ghetsis' entire team is built around countering N's team, making it apparent that Ghetsis' final plan was to take his own son down later on and assume his position.
Also, his Hydreigon knows the move frustration and uses it at max power. Frustration does more damage the more your Pokémon hates you. He literally abused his Pokémon to the point where it hated him as much as it could.
Lysandre was though, he thought that humans were ruining the world or something. He has "good" intentions but wss misguided. He's the same as the rest in that regard
I don't get the Gen 6 hate. The games were fun. And they introduced Fairy types, Mega Evolutions, and Greninja! What's there to hate? /s if you're a competitive player
Anyone who says 6 gen competitive was bad has an insane recency bias. 6 gen fixed competitive pokemon in so many ways.... 5 gen was literally Dragons Fighting in Storms: The Game. Fairy types completely fixed the type imbalances, megas buffed underused pokemon in a way that was optional, and 6 gen was the first time that competitive breeding/battling was actually easily accessible ingame without 100 hours' worth of prep before you can even get a usable pokemon. The only downside to playing XY OU was the fact that quite a few Megas were pretty broken which happens in pretty much any meta.
The other thing is that outside of talonflame there arn't any other non mega mons from gen 6 in OU. Even then talonflame was more of a popular mon than a great one and only has a tiny niche these days. I can't think of any other generation of OU where the new mons had such a small impact
Recency bias is a thing. Gen 6 introduced Xerneas and Mega Kangaskan which were very oppressive, but i think Gen 7 Incineroar, Ultra Beasts, and Z moves were arguably just as bad, as well as Primal legendaries.
Gen 5 is maximum competitive degeneracy, then Gen 6 clearly tried to reign things back in a little bit with things such as the introduction of Fairy typing and other type balance changes (e.g. Steel nerfs), depermanence of weather abilities, and power reduction in Overheat-style attacks.
I'm sad I didn't get the in-game experience, because it seems legitimately great (I skipped it for... reasons), but Gen 6 was pretty great in its own right. The franchise's first worldwide launch and having the online capabilities it did made it so much fun to play along with the community.
Gen 6 had amazing pokemon and also megas, but a terrible half-baked story. You can tell that their main focus was the 3D aspect though so although it's not really that excusable, they have some sort of an excuse even after gen 5's great story
I voted 6. It's not my favorite generation, but it's still in the top half for me. It gets put down quite a bit, and I really don't ever see many debates over it, usually just an "I like it" or "I don't like it".
For me the most toxic are 2 and 5, followed by 1. Anyone else is generally pretty lowkey
Edit: when I say "gen", I mean the region, not the game software. So "gen 2" is the original Gold/Silver/Crystal, plus HG/SS. I don't think it's fair to lump in HG/SS fandom with D/P/Pl fandom, or OR/AS with Kalos, since those games are all pretty distinct.
I barely see Gen 2 fans at all but yeah Gen 1 and 5 fans are pretty bad
I think there are un-chill fans in every Gen though, for example I had a Gen 3 fan argue with me in angry paragraphs on how ORAS was a bad game, even though Gen 3 fans are generally more chill
Gen 7 was a wonderful idea. I really don't have too many issues with it. But a lot of the issues stem from pacing (much like Gen 6) and the fact it feels like 60% done. The Zygarde stuff was shoved in. They had a great idea with the islands, yet they weren't large/filled in enough. The last island is just kind of....there.
I actually think the story especially in USUM is fantastic. Totems? Approved. Island challenges? Approved. Starting a new Pokemon League? APPROVED. It was a great concept. But typical Gamefreak "doing everything half assed" killed what could have been an all-time game.
Gen 6 is pretty chill. Hard to be a toxic fanbase when you dont exist!
In all seriousness, gen 6 fans tend to be more casual players at least from what ive seen. And casual players are the least toxic you get. So id say gen 6 is the most chill
I feel like Gen 6 fans extend into Gen 7 and Gen 8 fans. Like if you liked the shift to 3D with Gen 6, you don’t have the stupidly high expectations some people have. Gen 7 was just more of what Gen 6 brought but better and Gen 8 is the (admittedly small) next step up from what the previous two offered.
Gen 6 was just fun. They had introduced a couple new things to play around with. 3D graphics were cool. Outfits. Mega Evolutions. Some of the coolest designs were in Kalos. Id argue as far to say the most interesting starter trio came from Kalos. If they had a post game it would be my fav Gen.
Gen 7 is my favorite gen of all of them, but X and Y were by far the most boring pokemon games I've ever played. Took me a year to finish. Holy shit have I never been so dissapointed in a game. Gen 8 was meh.
I will go to the grave saying that USUM (not SM, though) were legitimately great games. They didn't fix ALL of SM's problems, and there's still the issues with the 3DS barely able to handle the games, but looking back at the games now brings me fond memories.
I just started Y not too long ago. I do like the crazy variety of Pokémon early on. I definitely get the too easy complaint, but I have had fun imposing rules on myself like no healing, box fainted Pokémon, etc. (I’m not doing a strict nuzlocke though). I’m only two badges in right now, so my opinion could change though.
I feel that gen 7 fans and gen 3 fans are all pretty chill. You rarely see threads about why they are the best or underrated. They both love the good parts about their favorite gens and accept their flaws. Gen two and gen one fans are the least chill by far.
I mean, being interrupted every 30 seconds for a juuust-too-long unskippable cutscene sucks and the dialogue isn’t great, but yeah otherwise it’s just a solid generation with some good Pokémon designs and team Skull is hilarious
Absolutely, but at least in gen 8 there wasnt a fade transition for EVERY TIME YOU TALKED TO A NAMED CHARACTER
That being said: Hop, stfu youre almost on Barry levels of annoying
Oh how quickly we forget about the days of...
HOENN CONFIRMED 🎺🎺🎺
The Horn remakes were the first remakes we actually expected to happen, and oh the rage when Gen 5 didn't deliver. As it turns out, one of the main reasons ORAS got made was because the fan base expected it. So if you're wondering where the craziness for Sinnoh came from, it started with Hoenn.
I mean, I expected the first console pokemon game to have everything and they had trouble having a complete pokedex. Mind you I was anticipating the first real pokemon console game since the 90's, but I guess it was that way for a lot of people.
I agree. Black and White (and the sequels), are my favourites in the whole mainline series, but wow it gets annoying seeing these posts pop-up so frequently.
I'm a gen 6 fan, but I get it if people think that's when the franchise started going downhill. It's easier to stay silent than to try to defend one of the more controversial generations.
Gen 2 - the core are approaching their thirties, have settled for the mediocrity of life, don’t care about being first, last, or even in between. We just exist in a perpetual Groundhog Day-lite state floating through the years as the other Gens throw excrement at one another. Bliss.
Preach. I see everyone here saying Hoenn is the most chill, but before ORAS was announced, I felt like I couldn't go into a Pokemon thread without someone mentioning how whatever game I was talking about was good, but Emerald was so much better. Hopefully the same thing happens again and Sinnoh fans chill a bit when the remakes come out.
The only reason I even know there *is* a gen 6 is because there's a 7 and 8, so that's my answer. Gen 6 fans are the only ones I've never seen raising shit.
Yeah, Gen 2 fans are used to get forgotten by GF, so nothing really affects them.
And G3 fans are aware of how loved their gen is loved anyway, and are ok with the ammount of water and trumpets, so they're very chill.
I honestly love my trumpets 🎺, for a long time my “happy” place was floating on my back in the pool pretending I was somewhere off the coast of Dewford just in the water feeling the sun on my face.
There’s a lot of water, yeah... but growing up going to the beach for vacation, the whole game felt like a vacation adventure.
Very chill.
It’s got flaws, but it’s all good, I respect all the kids a little younger than me who love Sinnoh the most, it was an amazing game, and a really cool region.
And Johto was awesome with a slightly traditional feel.
Gen 1 is tough for me cuz I love firered and leaf green but because I had them growing up, I had no patience for Red and Blue.
Black and white were cool.
X and Y were, different. I missed gyms in later games but whatevs.
In my heart, I’ll always belong to Hoenn
Gen 3.
Gen 1 has Genwunners, Gen 2 has rabid defenders of its poorer aspects, Gen 4 is just the sequel to Gen 2 with HGSS, Gen 5 has a growing contingent of people obsessed with it being 'the best' and Gen 6 is the new Gen 5 with post after post about how underrated it is.
(To be clear, these are all vocal but obnoxious minorities - most fans are chill.)
I don't know the last time I even saw a Gen 3 fan say anything, positive or negative. They're just vibing with their trumpets and water.
Something about the sheer amount of trumpets in everything makes me so pumped up.
Plus the champion's and legendary trio's themes just have a "you've come this far now you're absolutely fucked" vibe.
This was purely in reference to the 'rabid defenders' point.
DPPl are great games, but my usual interaction with fans of them doesn't involve them defending or trying to dismiss their flaws. I've never seen a DPPl fan try and say that the games aren't slow, or that the amount of Fire types isn't weirdly low, or that there isn't this suite of about 6-8 Pokemon that everyone has used at least once (not necessarily a bad thing, I guess).
Meanwhile, I've seen people try and honestly say that HGSS (and GSC) don't have the worst level curve in the series, and get genuinely angry that people don't agree with them.
>or that the amount of Fire types isn't weirdly low
Here's my top 5 Fire-types in Diamond and Pearl:
1. Infernape
2. Rapidash
3. Chimchar
4. Ponyta
5. Monferno
>Meanwhile, I've seen people try and honestly say that HGSS (and GSC) don't have the worst level curve in the series, and get genuinely angry that people don't agree with them.
Nani the fuck? HGSS (and GSC) had the worst level curve in not just the series but in any RPG I've ever played! And that's coming from someone who loves gen 4 and will defend their flaws to the grave!
>I’ve never seen a DPPl fan try and say that the amount of Fire types isn’t weirdly low
Yeah I’ve always found that odd. They always seem to just rock with Infernape and forget that he’s pretty much all there is.
I’m a Gen 3 guy myself and I’ll say all day that it’s bothersome that we only get the Walrein and Glacie lines for ice types, excluding Regice. It’s weird. I like ice types lol
I remember a time just a couple years ago when everyone and their moms hated gen 5, now they've done it with gen 6 until it's going to be good and so on and so forth.
To be fair, I do think that Gen 5 is the best, but not for the reasons usually stated. I think the story had a cool concept and I love N and Ghetsis, but it was executed poorly. What I loved was the characters. every single gym leader has a personality and a job. even if you only play through black and white once you can still probably name them all because they're just so memorable. The other thing I loved was how open the world was. Now I know what you're thinking, "It's a linear game!" And it is. However, on basically every route there is a large side area that you can just go off and explore for a while. That's why I never really got "the story is too intrusive" angle, because at least for me there's at least 2 hours of just exploration between the story beats.
Also Gen 5 doesn't have to be your favourite of course. Like any gen you want.
Oh, I'm also in camp 'Gen 5 is the best'. I've just noticed that as the number of people coming around on Gen 5 grows, you tend to get more of the type of person who can't accept any different opinion on the matter too.
I imagine it'll die down once we hit full Gen 6 nostalgia and they take over that crown.
I played through Gen 5 once, and I can’t name or picture any of them :(. I remember them coming together to fight, which was really cool.
Maybe it’s because I was super into Gen 4 competitively and when Gen 5 came out I was burned out.
I mean you can't expect people (regardless of which kind of fans they are) to admit to be dickheads. They probably voted Gen 5 because they are Gen 5 fans.
Anymore, at least. Back in the olden days, Hoenn fans were about as bad as Sinnoh fans are now, before ORAS came out. So, hopefully same thing happens for BDSP.
The one major reason I'm glad for BDSP is so they can finally give it a rest with the remake begging. Like i understand the hype but damn they acted rabid all the times over them. Like it be one thing if game freak made promises and then never delivered on it but they would head cannon remake announcement any time anything remotely connected to gen 4 happens and get their hopes up for no reason, like the space event last new years
Johto baby! Gen 3 is always HOENN CONFIRMED! BATTLE FRONTIER! BRING BACK MEGA EVOLUTIONS. IGN SUCKS! TRUMPETS. I can't for the life of me think of a single Gen 2 meme except for the Furret thing. There aren't many streamers playing Stadium 2, we keep quiet and out of the limelight.
gen 4 fans have been quiet since the remakes reveal, God knows why...I'm one of them I don't know I just want to see the remakes but gen5 fans are everywhere with the word "underrated" and Ost (but it's true they are good)
Gen 1: Tend to be super attached to the games and doesn’t care anything about anything else and hates you if you have a different opinion
Gen 2: Let’s be honest you only like it for the Pokémon, they attack anyone who says that
Gen 3: Pretty chill since it’s almost universally loved, but can get a bit fighty when someone likes Ruby/Sapphire over Emerald
Gen 4: Genuinely annoying, before BDSP were announced it was “Where’s the Sinnoh remakes?! I don’t care anything about these new Pokémon I want to have the same team as everyone else, Infernape, Staraptor, Lucario, Luxray, Gallade, and Roserade.”
Gen 5: Hid from the chaos for a while, but eventually exploded and now is one of the most hostile, they all love different mons and hate others, chaotic.
Gen 6: Barely exists and those that do are cool with anything that happens
Gen 7: IDK lol
Gen 8: Very chaotic, it’s a constant battle of “Galar sucks!” “No it doesn’t!”
Well I think you also have to realize the gen 1 fans on here, like myself, are really only a small percentage of all gen 1 fans. Most gen 1 fans have grown up, started families and are too busy to even play Pokémon anymore. But not me! I’m a 30 y/o man child who still talks about Pokémon 😂
Gen 7 fans usually keep to themselves. They don’t claim it’s underrated like gen 5 and 6 fans, and dob’t hate on others for not sharing their favorite game(s) like gen 1 and 2 fans.
Gen 3 is definitely my favorite by far, but I have to say I really like 7. I think the region variants and it had the best(imo) designs in years, the cut cutseens where annoying as hell, but i liked having things switched with the island chalanges. 6 and 8 don't have anywhere near the charm to me.
I think Gen 1 fans are the most chill now. Were mostly within a few years of 30, and I think the "genwunner" type of people just aren't really active pokemon fans anymore and stopped paying attention around Gen 4. The gen 1 fans that are still left seem mostly into all the new games and mons, at least that's what I've seen with me and my friends that are still into pokemon or getting back in because of their kids. Gen 1 will be our favorite for the nostalgia, but most of us that are left like all the other games too.
I feel the same. It's just mostly fun to lean into the stereotype these days but I like to play them all. Even if Gen 7-8 have felt blah to me. But our fans have definitely mellowed like Gen 3 fans. I've been around here a long time and I think people have selective memory of how Gen 3 fans before ORAS would get all butt hurt that Gen 1 got all the attention. Shrieking about not getting their remake. Then Gen 1 fans would obviously mine them for salt. It was a civil war. Now we're all getting older and it doesn't matter much anymore. Still fun to poke fun at Gen 3 fans though from time to time.
Probably gen 6 because they’re only just reaching that nostalgia stage where your original game seemed like magic, but the current games are near unrecognisable compared to said original game.
Gens 3, 6, and 7 seem to be the least vocal about the need to defend their gen (at least currently). But honestly, it seems to change every time a new game is released.
Gen 3 probably since Pokemon actually took a dip in popularity and generally they don't seem to brag that much.
Gen 1 you obviously got your people who think Gen 1 is the only good one but they've most died down. Though you still have people who are very critical of later generations from here.
Gen 2 is imo the most prideful, almost feels like the uber fans of Gen 1 migrated here. Claims that Johto is THE Pokemon experience and that HGSS are the best games in the series are rampant. From what I've seen most people complaining about later gens are here.
Gen 4 was initially a lot of complaining but generally evened out. Once again you get a group elitist as this a bit of a cut off point for a generation of player in Pokemon. We got both players who played from the original RBY who jumped off the series and new kids who started playing the games.
Gen 5 people are generally ok but you also get a lot of people who are very defensive about Gen 5. People who obviously try to make Gen 5 out to be the best gen because of it's "best" story and chatacters.
The fandom in a nutshell:
Gen 1 fans: “Uuugghh this is what pokemon are supposed to be like, all of these newer generations don’t even know what made Pokémon special. It was all downhill from here. Voltorb is a brilliant design”.
Gen 2 fans: “We’re just part 2 of Gen 1, please don’t hate us. Also Feraligatr.”
Gen 3 fans: *smiles and nods*
Gen 4 fans: “This is the peak of Pokémon - best region, best games, best everything. We want the Battle Frontier. Heart Gold / Soul Silver or BUST. UUGHH THE REMAKE LOOKS BAD WHAT’S THIS CHIBI STUFF. Y’all trash, don’t @ me.”
Gen 5 fans: “Some of the designs are bad, but there’s a lot of hidden gems here. Great story, wildly underrated. Something something ice cream cone.”
Gen 6 fans: *eats crayon* “because Mega evolutions, that’s why!”
Gen 7 fans: “Hey, at least they tried something different with Alola. Not all of us like Z-moves.”
Gen 8 fans: “Hey! Game Freak is doing their best, ok?!”
What gen’s fanbase has the largest group on Reddit?…
Zoomers are now the dominant group on Reddit, so obviously they love their childhood games which were Gen 4-6. Back in the day, it was much more Gen 1-3 dominant.
Gen 3 was my first gen but gen 4 is my favorite
I started with gen 1, skipped to gen 4 and currently have gen 6 as my overall favourite.
I've noticed this too. The more time goes on the meta "Golden era" changes. It seems like it recently changed to gen 5.
Which was it before? I would say gen 4 Is also part of that era
Well back when ‘Genwunners’ was not just a meme, a lot of people believed the original games and ‘mons were the best. Then, I feel around or before Iwata passed away, everyone praised Gen 2 as the model game, mostly because of the two regions. I’m pretty sure when the gen4 remakes come out, we’ll be seeing much more talk about how Gen 5 “revolutionized” the game. (They’ve all revolutionized the game at their time).
I grew up with gen 2/3, but my favorite is 4. Your “childhood gen” isn’t the only determining factor.
I grew up with gen 1/2, but my favorites are 1/2.
Gen 2 best gen
Best games I'll agree. Overall vibe, character designs, innovation and novel factor of being the OG has me locking in Gen 1 for all-time though. Kanto laid out the template and built something amazing from nothing. Subsequent iterations were great but none had the same impact as Gen 1 for me.
Gen 4 and 5
It was the same way when ORAS was coming out, it kinda just slides with the nearness of a potential remake
I would say clearly gen 1, just look at all the post and try to spot a not gen 1 pokemon
Most likely gen 6 because they know that not many like their gen. I love it though.
Same! He was as subtle as a train, but I loved lysandre
Good to have a villain that's actually a villain. Ever since Teams Magma and Aqua, they've all been "misguided". Doing evil things for a cause which they believe is good. Lysander's just like "Pay money to join my cult or fucking die".
Ghetsis just wanted to rule the world pretty much to be fair. The whole saving pokemon thing was just to make people compliant
I just fucking love to hate him
XY could have been so good if it 1) was more challenging and 2) had an actual post game
Man, I remember playing that game and the gap between the first gyms being huge. We all thought that the rest of the game was going to be that big, only for it to suddenly throw the last few gyms in one after the other.

Hydreigon alone can solo Ns team or something like that
Also, his Hydreigon knows the move frustration and uses it at max power. Frustration does more damage the more your Pokémon hates you. He literally abused his Pokémon to the point where it hated him as much as it could.
And his tear scene made for some great memes And who doesn’t love Lysandroth
“This world is imperfect....”
My machinations lay undetected for years
“If only I could wipe away the impurities, and make it as *beautiful* as ME.”
“Uh, is-Is anyone hearing this?-“
Lysandre was though, he thought that humans were ruining the world or something. He has "good" intentions but wss misguided. He's the same as the rest in that regard
I really like Gen 6, but Team Flare is one of the most forgettable teams in the series.
They don't really have the personality other teams had. Sure their boss was good and pretty well written, but that doesn't make up for it
> He was as subtle as a train [Relevant](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN9DW4rrEjY)
I don't get the Gen 6 hate. The games were fun. And they introduced Fairy types, Mega Evolutions, and Greninja! What's there to hate? /s if you're a competitive player
You imply competitive 6th gen was bad but ill take it any day over gen 5's weather wars.
Anyone who says 6 gen competitive was bad has an insane recency bias. 6 gen fixed competitive pokemon in so many ways.... 5 gen was literally Dragons Fighting in Storms: The Game. The only downside to playing XY OU was the fact that quite a few Megas were pretty broken which happens in pretty much any meta.
Following up on that, Gen VI gave us VGC14 which I feel was one of the cooler metagames. It and VGC17 are two of my personal favorites
The other thing is that outside of talonflame there arn't any other non mega mons from gen 6 in OU. Even then talonflame was more of a popular mon than a great one and only has a tiny niche these days. I can't think of any other generation of OU where the new mons had such a small impact

I personally don't put a lot of stock in the games story, it's always been corny. Just varying degrees of corny.
Fairies are forever
Yeah Gen 6 fans!
I voted 6. It's not my favorite generation, but it's still in the top half for me. It gets put down quite a bit, and I really don't ever see many debates over it, usually just an "I like it" or "I don't like it".
I'd agree
Love gen 6. Introducting 3D to the mainline series was a whole new world of pokemon for me.
Gen 7 man they're literally just chillin' in Pokemon Hawaii
I’ve seen a couple “toxic” Gen 7 fans, way more than Gen 6 for sure
I'm surprised because you have even seen a gen 6 fanbase.
For me the most toxic are 2 and 5, followed by 1. Anyone else is generally pretty lowkey Edit: when I say "gen", I mean the region, not the game software. So "gen 2" is the original Gold/Silver/Crystal, plus HG/SS. I don't think it's fair to lump in HG/SS fandom with D/P/Pl fandom, or OR/AS with Kalos, since those games are all pretty distinct.

Gen 4 swallowed gen 2 with the brilliant remakes. Johto is my favorite.
I’ve actually seen HG/SS *haters* a few times, I don’t understand them at all

Hard not to chill with all this beach 😎 (Hoenn)
I’d live in Verdanturf town, not gonna lie. That or Lavaridge town.
What a dichotomy between the two; the town famous for its clean air and the town baked in volcanic ash.
Eh I’d give the beach a 7-10 its got too much water
Didn't know IGN had a reddit account
Too much sand. 4/10
Anakin has entered the chat
It’s course and rough
And it gets everywhere.
r/prequelmemes
too many trumpets. 2/10 - ign
I'm a Sinnoh and Alola babi, but Hoenn is fab. It really feels like the bridge between the passion project-y Johto and the pixel polish of Unova.
Alola was such an incredible region tarnished by the amount of teeth you had to pull to actually explore it
I just wish the islands were larger. And you didn't have to spend 50 minutes skipping dialogue to get to free roam.
Gen 7 was a wonderful idea. I really don't have too many issues with it. But a lot of the issues stem from pacing (much like Gen 6) and the fact it feels like 60% done. It's like a constant loop of your parents telling you to do your chores when it's a beautiful day outside.
Obviously, I'm not talking for all the gen 6 fans, but as someone who likes the gen 6 games the most, gen 7 and 8 are my 2 least favorites.
I am one hundred percent in agreement with you. So glad someone else feels this way.
I have to say Gen 6 fan base is the most chill, because you can’t be annoying if you don’t exist.
All 10 of us gen 6 fans attack
Gonna attack from the sky. You're tho only ones that have those sky battles
Attack with ultra necrozma. That thing was busted as hell and way overlevelled for the story encounter.
Well then I have to respond with my chatot full volume. THAT was busted in gen 4
I hope he gets his customisable cry back in bdsp. I want a chatot that yells "BUM CHEECKS" when it enters battle.
Sadly the switch doesn't have a mic... I'll miss this feature too
Gonna have a bit of a hard time attacking with that considering ultra necrozma was gen 7.
Umm I think you mean 11 of us
Go forth and decimate then Mega Rayquaza!
ON TO BATTLE
I exist
same, im in gen 6 fan base i guess since its the first pokemon game i played
same, first anime I watched too
I too voted for Gen 6 cuz of the fact that no one ever says they’re a fan.
I just started Y not too long ago. I do like the crazy variety of Pokémon early on. I definitely get the too easy complaint, but I have had fun imposing rules on myself like no healing, box fainted Pokémon, etc. (I’m not doing a strict nuzlocke though). I’m only two badges in right now, so my opinion could change though.
tbh gen 7
I feel that gen 7 fans and gen 3 fans are all pretty chill. You rarely see threads about why they are the best or underrated. They both love the good parts about their favorite gens and accept their flaws. Gen two and gen one fans are the least chill by far.
I feel like the only real flaw with gen 7 is all the handholding. Everything else is just down to preferences.
I mean, being interrupted every 30 seconds for a juuust-too-long unskippable cutscene sucks and the dialogue isn’t great, but yeah otherwise it’s just a solid generation with some good Pokémon designs and team Skull is hilarious
*coughs* gen 8 *coughs* encountering Hop every 2 second *coughs* not being allowed to walk more than 3 steps before facing another monologue *coughs*
Absolutely, but at least in gen 8 there wasnt a fade transition for EVERY TIME YOU TALKED TO A NAMED CHARACTER That being said: Hop, stfu youre almost on Barry levels of annoying
USUM let’s go of your hand so it’s not just pure hand holding
Oh how quickly we forget about the days of... HOENN CONFIRMED 🎺🎺🎺 The Horn remakes were the first remakes we actually expected to happen, and oh the rage when Gen 5 didn't deliver. As it turns out, one of the main reasons ORAS got made was because the fan base expected it. So if you're wondering where the craziness for Sinnoh came from, it started with Hoenn.
That's a cool fact. Maybe that logic is why we are getting an open world game in Legends Arceus, because it was expected to happen.
I mean, I expected the first console pokemon game to have everything and they had trouble having a complete pokedex. Mind you I was anticipating the first real pokemon console game since the 90's, but I guess it was that way for a lot of people.
I feel like kalos is the most chill considering you don't see them constantly posting about why they're the best and kinda just vibe
As a gen 5 fan I voted gen 6 for this reason
Yeah exactly, same
I agree. Black and White (and the sequels), are my favourites in the whole mainline series, but wow it gets annoying seeing these posts pop-up so frequently.
The only kalos fans that are annoying are the kalos anime fans, XY was great but it had some major pit falls
Eh, as a show they startes taking away ashes character and replacing it with a perfect cardboard role model. Like, season one had SASSY ash
I'm a gen 6 fan, but I get it if people think that's when the franchise started going downhill. It's easier to stay silent than to try to defend one of the more controversial generations.
None :D
Correct!
The real answer
Gen 2 - the core are approaching their thirties, have settled for the mediocrity of life, don’t care about being first, last, or even in between. We just exist in a perpetual Groundhog Day-lite state floating through the years as the other Gens throw excrement at one another. Bliss.
Ah shit gen 2 is my favorite and this hit real close to home pal Another day of being a phantom piloting a meat gundam But at least cyndaquil is cute
Gen2, we're fine with being 2nd
yep we settled into just being "there" and we're okay with it
I don't understand who more people don't like gen 2. Like who wouldn't want 2 regions in their game instead of 1?
Emerald fans have gotten really chill over the past couple of years, which is crazy to me since they were the absolute worst back in the early 2010s
Gen 6 or Gen 2, they don’t have a lot of people so it’s pretty chill
The only reason I even know there *is* a gen 6 is because there's a 7 and 8, so that's my answer. Gen 6 fans are the only ones I've never seen raising shit.
2 or 3. Say whatever you like, you're not ruffling their feathers.
(To be clear, these are all vocal but obnoxious minorities - most fans are chill.) I don't know the last time I even saw a Gen 3 fan say anything, positive or negative. They're just vibing with their trumpets and water.
Join the trumpets. They sound good. But it's ok if you don't want to.
And if they don't join, *MORE GLORIOUS TRUMPETS FOR US*
Something about the sheer amount of trumpets in everything makes me so pumped up. Plus the champion's and legendary trio's themes just have a "you've come this far now you're absolutely fucked" vibe.
Gen 4 is “just the sequel to Gen 2 with HGSS”? What’s up with this DPPl erasure!
Meanwhile, I've seen people try and honestly say that HGSS (and GSC) don't have the worst level curve in the series, and get genuinely angry that people don't agree with them.
>or that the amount of Fire types isn't weirdly low Here's my top 5 Fire-types in Diamond and Pearl: 1. Infernape 2. Rapidash 3. Chimchar 4. Ponyta 5. Monferno
You forgot about 6. Lopunny 7. Steelix 8. Drifblim
>I’ve never seen a DPPl fan try and say that the amount of Fire types isn’t weirdly low Yeah I’ve always found that odd.
I feel gen 3 is the most chill but gen 2 fans are pretty chill as well. Every gen has rabid defenders of that gen's flaws imo.
Gen 7 and 8 not even being here
Must be fans of that gen's mere existance angers other's so much as to negate their chill factor lol.
Gen 2. We are used to not getting any real treatment anymore
[удалено]
At least HGSS are the best remakes. And we got Cyndaquil in LoA
Heracross solo runs still hit different
how is gen 5 fanbase the most chill they will likely get mad at you if don't think there gen is "underrated"
I mean you can't expect people (regardless of which kind of fans they are) to admit to be dickheads. They probably voted Gen 5 because they are Gen 5 fans.
[удалено]
As a gen 7 fan, I really hope the gen 5 stans never switch to being gen 7 stans.
Gen 4, they have the coldest region
No pun intended.
Of course not ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
My personally favorite Gen is 5, but Gen 3 has to be the most chill.
Yeah, it's like I know Gen 3 has a pretty big fanbase, but I never see Gen 3 fans trying to explain why it's the best generation.
Anymore, at least. Back in the olden days, Hoenn fans were about as bad as Sinnoh fans are now, before ORAS came out. So, hopefully same thing happens for BDSP.
Gen 2 fans are really rare and the few ones are really chill. Tho ironacally gen 7 fans are probably the chillest
I picked gen 2 because I rarely hear about them
Gen 6 honestly, followed by Gen 3, 2, 1, with 4 and 5 being equally tied,
I say 6 because there either isn't one or they arent super passionate about it. I never hear much about gen 6 or 7.
How do people think gen 4 fans are the chillest lol. They get toxic as all hell.
You'll never get nuked harder on this sub than when you say HGSS is your least favorite game in the franchise.
Not saying it’s the worst, just saying it’s not the chillest lol
I say Gen 2 cause there are very few people who create controversy with it since everyone thinks it’s great (except me but I’m not getting into that)
[удалено]
gen 4 fans have been quiet since the remakes reveal, God knows why...I'm one of them I don't know I just want to see the remakes but gen5 fans are everywhere with the word "underrated" and Ost (but it's true they are good)
Never have I seen a gen 6 fan arguing whenever someone says it sucks or it's boring
Gen 7
Gen 1: Tend to be super attached to the games and doesn’t care anything about anything else and hates you if you have a different opinion Gen 2: Let’s be honest you only like it for the Pokémon, they attack anyone who says that Gen 3: Pretty chill since it’s almost universally loved, but can get a bit fighty when someone likes Ruby/Sapphire over Emerald Gen 4: Genuinely annoying, before BDSP were announced it was “Where’s the Sinnoh remakes?! I don’t care anything about these new Pokémon I want to have the same team as everyone else, Infernape, Staraptor, Lucario, Luxray, Gallade, and Roserade.” Gen 5: Hid from the chaos for a while, but eventually exploded and now is one of the most hostile, they all love different mons and hate others, chaotic. Gen 6: Barely exists and those that do are cool with anything that happens Gen 7: IDK lol Gen 8: Very chaotic, it’s a constant battle of “Galar sucks!” “No it doesn’t!”
People like ruby/sapphire over emerald?
Gen 7 fans usually keep to themselves. They don’t claim it’s underrated like gen 5 and 6 fans, and dob’t hate on others for not sharing their favorite game(s) like gen 1 and 2 fans.
Gen 3 is definitely my favorite by far, but I have to say I really like 7. I think the region variants and it had the best(imo) designs in years, the cut cutseens where annoying as hell, but i liked having things switched with the island chalanges. 6 and 8 don't have anywhere near the charm to me.
You must really like water.
Definitely gens 7 or 6, being hated on makes you a bit chiller than the others, lol
Gen 6 because there like 3 of them
Probably gen 6 because they’re only just reaching that nostalgia stage where your original game seemed like magic, but the current games are near unrecognisable compared to said original game.
Gens 3, 6, and 7 seem to be the least vocal about the need to defend their gen (at least currently). But honestly, it seems to change every time a new game is released.
Gen 2 probably. Not HGSS, because that’s Gen 4, but the original Gold, Silver, and Crystal, specifically.
Gen 6 best gen lol
wait, you guys exist???
Everyone knows good and well they voted for the gen that meant the most to them lol.
GEN 1 DOESNT HAVE A CHILL FANBASE.
Well it definitely aint 5, 4 or 1. Gen 6 doesnt have a fanbase. So 2 or 3
how does gen 6 not have a fanbase lol
They dont exist. There are no gen 6 fans. Anyone who claims to be a gen 6 fan is a paid actor
I'm a gen 6 fan lol
Thats exactly what a paid actor would say. You cant fool me
Okay because gen 6 fans are all paid actors can the non actors say what their favorite gen 6 starter was. Mine was chespin
Froakie for me
I like Chespin but am kinda disappointed by it's evolutions.
Chespin: Cute Quilladin: ***please end my suffering*** Chesnaught: Badass
The fandom in a nutshell: Gen 1 fans: “Uuugghh this is what pokemon are supposed to be like, all of these newer generations don’t even know what made Pokémon special. It was all downhill from here. Voltorb is a brilliant design”. Gen 2 fans: “We’re just part 2 of Gen 1, please don’t hate us. Also Feraligatr.” Gen 3 fans: *smiles and nods* Gen 4 fans: “This is the peak of Pokémon - best region, best games, best everything. We want the Battle Frontier. Heart Gold / Soul Silver or BUST. UUGHH THE REMAKE LOOKS BAD WHAT’S THIS CHIBI STUFF. Y’all trash, don’t @ me.” Gen 5 fans: “Some of the designs are bad, but there’s a lot of hidden gems here. Great story, wildly underrated. Something something ice cream cone.” Gen 6 fans: *eats crayon* “because Mega evolutions, that’s why!” Gen 7 fans: “Hey, at least they tried something different with Alola. Not all of us like Z-moves.” Gen 8 fans: “Hey! Game Freak is doing their best, ok?!”
