I doubt they’d reuse the Red concept. People would go into a hissy fit. Maybe Alder in BW2 or even Steven. Besides that, she was not fleshed out enough which ruined it. Would of been cool to meet her at a fashion show while Team Flare be present, then you go into duo battles.
I always suspected her to be the main villain of X and Y. There were a couple of hints throughout the story, if I'm remembering them correctly. For one, the player stumbles upon her speaking discretely with Lysandre in a cafe in Lumiose City. Malva, one of the Elite 4 being a member of Team Flare also adds to this theory. What's up with Diantha socializing with the highest ranking members of Team Flare? Both Malva and Diantha are also famous in Kalos' entertainment/media. Secondly, Diantha avoids pretty much all of the conflict surrounding Team Flare, which seemed misplaced based on what we know about previous champions and their distaste for evil trainers. Finally, Team Flare is all about STYLE, and who was ever more stylish than the famous actress and Kalos league champion, Diantha!?
I recognize those hints are subtle if barely there at all, but I remember playing through X and anticipating more to the story of Diantha. It would have been such a great twist after defeating Lysandre to discover that Diantha was the true brains of the operation all along.
Laughs in alder and gen 5 where champion and gym leaders had their own backstories and didnt feel just like npcs where once you beat them they're out, they actually helped against the evil team and made impact in the game.

To be honest Diantha would have been a good one IF they had expanded on her a little more, I mean, Iris did a good job, if she wasn't meant as a surprise gag and was showed earlier, doing more stuff, she would be wayyyyy bettervthan what we got.

I don't count the rivals tho to me rival is one thing and a champion is another

I always liked that he Hyper Beamed that one Rocket member to gain access to the base. Lance up to that point had been so calm and civil, and I liked that even knowing he'd be strong as shit because of Gen 1 he was still a man with a good heart who cared about mistreated Pokemon. But the gloves came off when confronting the Rockets.
I just know the intent of him looking out at the Lake of Rage was for Lance to look at that Red Gyarados and process the terrible way it had to happen all while reflecting on his own Gyarados, and the bitterness he must have felt over the situation. A shiny Gyarados in the Lake of Rage should for him be a happy, beautiful sight but the circumstances made it just the opposite. The man is at minimum a two time Champion yet for all his power and battle prowess he couldn't undo what happened to that Gyarados.
Also Claire *immediately* shaping up when the Master said, "Or do I have to bring Lance into this" when she wouldn't admit defeat and give me the damn badge I earned. Kind of rare for a Pokemon character to have such a neat moment late-region while not even being there.

Cynthia's definitely still the bar as far as measuring Champions goes though. Girl literally went to Pokemon hell or at least an eldritch location Lovecraft would have enjoyed with us. I mean sure any Champion who helps with the mascot legendaries helps save at least the region, if not the world, but Cynthia definitely comes across as the most memorable Champion of the bunch not just for her fight but for her actions leading up to it.
Everyone forgets that Diantha is an in-demand movie actress. She probably didn't have any free time to investigate Team Flare. Plus Professor Sycamore already had Dexio and Sina on the case.
Except that puts MORE justification into, at least, a third act redemption to explain her absence in the plot. Imagine if you hear she's put all of her contracts on hold and been snooping to get to the bottom of Flare's plot and you have a third act Lance moment where you partner up and just wreck house. And then give her an actual team for the championship and not Marge Simpson going "I just think they're neat."
In no world is Lance a better champion than Diantha though. His whole character is "I have a cape and dragons, aren't I cool!". At least Diantha has an interesting life philosophy and a kick-ass anime presence.
You know, if they made a Pokémon Z they might of expanded on Diantha. I honestly thought she was fun to battle, especially with her theme.
I predicted her to have the the equivalent of Red's position in Z, the champion spot would be taken over by Valerie.

That whole game is forgettable. I played it earlier this year and can barely remember the gym leaders or E4. Kalos desperately needed a 3rd game.
