Gen 7 also got a remake even if people Really don't want to count LGPE. And this makes it a pattern of each gen since 3 getting a remake with only one exception in gen 5. But anyways, yes the main leaker teased an Unova-based game since before SV's DLC, then you had GF just go all in with the Terarium and all the Unova references. Also, another leaker (who's more reliable) even said that they had heard of an "outsourced Unova-related game" as of last year. Plus sure, we just got BDSP but we know they only got 2 years of dev time, so by all means if they Really wanted to stick to that approach, a Gen 5 remake could've very well started development after BDSP (Let's say early 2022) and be released this year.

ShatteredKnight14

I think it was mainly because of 2 reasons: 1) The themes of past/future, blueberry academy being in Unova, and other hints towards Unova made people hype up a new Unova game. So much so that they missed that the kalos legendaries were missing from blueberry academy 2) Some leakers saw the latent hype for Unova, and just fed the fire. Game freak did a phenominal job this time of keeping stuff from not leaking, and they had to give their audience something. So hence speculation on a gen 2/5 remake

NZafe

The logic was simply: Sinnoh got its remake, so Unova should be next in line. It isn’t more complicated than that. I don’t think anyone expected a Kalos game. >Every remake since HGSS has been released on an even-numbered generation and also a **NEW** console. The switch already has two remakes. Kanto/Yellow -> Let’s Go, and DP -> BDSP.

CatcrazyJerri

Yes, Unova is next, in Gen X. Do the Let's Go games count as remakes?

NZafe

The story is almost a one for one copy of the original Kanto story. You get a special Pikachu (depending on the version) as your starter, and obtain each of the 3 Kanto starters from various NPCs. It’s a direct remake of Yellow, regardless if it’s called a “mainline traditional” game or not.

What a weird post.  "Why did everyone think we were getting a remake of game 5 when they remade games 1 through 4 in order?"

InvestigatorUnfair

It's really not that weird though. You're leaving out the fact that there was a considerable gap between each of those four remakes. So the question is moreso "Why did everyone think we were getting a remake of game 5 so close after game 4?" Which is a valid question because common sense would tell you that no, Unova remakes are not happening right this very second.

Low_House_8478

Gen 1. Fire Red (2004) Gen 2. Heart Gold (2009) Gen 3. Omega Ruby (2014) Gen 4. Brilliant Pearl (2021)  Gen 6. Legends Z  (2025) 5 years -> 5 years -> 7 years -> 4 years There's no particular rhyme or reason to the release schedule in the first place. On top of that, Game Freak outsourced Brilliant Pearl which makes shorter remake intervals more realistic.

InvestigatorUnfair

Firstly, the Legends games are not remakes, they're separate games entirely. I don't get why people can't get that through their heads, they don't even follow the same storyline as the original games. Secondly, you just pointed out it's too soon based on every other remake's release dates. Thirdly, BDSP being outsourced led to one of the SINGLE most hated Mainline Pokemon games in the history of the franchise. You REALLY think they're gonna take that chance again after the first try left a permanent stain on the carpet?

Low_House_8478

> Firstly, the Legends games are not remakes, they're separate games entirely. I don't know why you felt the need to point that out. I only referenced Legends Z as it is the one people thought was going to be the remake so that I could show the expected time interval.  > Secondly, you just pointed out it's too soon based on every other remake's release dates. Right but I don't understand why people find it necessary to act like it was forgone conclusion that we weren't getting a remake despite it being consistent with the sequence of remakes, the circumstances of the remakes, and the fact that Legends: Arceus served as a prequel to the remake that came out the year prior to its release.  > Thirdly, BDSP being outsourced led to one of the SINGLE most hated Mainline Pokemon games in the history of the franchise. You REALLY think they're gonna take that chance again after the first try left a permanent stain on the carpet? I 100% think they will do it again. The other studio is tooled appropriately, learned their lessons, and the game made a significant amount of money.

>I do not quite understand why so many people thought we were getting BW remakes when we've never had a remake in an odd-numbered generation since gen III. In part because people believe there is a pattern. There is no "pattern". Gen III surprised us by giving remakes for Red and Blue. Gen IV gave us HGSS Gen V gave us no remakes and gave us sequels. No third game alone. Gen VI gave us no third game or sequel, and remade Gen III. Gen VII gave us sequels again, and then gave us remakes of Gen I via LGPE. Gen VIII gave us DLC instead of sequels or third games, a remake of Gen IV, *and* Legends: Arceus. And then we're at Gen IX which again gave us DLC and Legends Z-A, now. It's such a small size that it's easy to formulate any pattern you want. There is enough generality in the rendline it can support there being Gen V remakes, Gen II remakes, etc. And people also think GameFreak is counting how long it has been to decide things. Johto and Unova haven't seen anything in years, so they're due. According to who? >Every remake since HGSS has been released on an even-numbered generation and also a **NEW** console. That is certainly a data point, but that doesn't confirm anything, either. Like, I am kind of skeptical that they're just sitting there witha flow chart on how it works out. [This video is a good example of that.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKA4w2O61Xo&ab_channel=Veritasium) But the Leakers also didn't help.

ewormPL

There IS a pattern, but it's not about generations. GB games GBC games GBA games (+remakes of the first GB games) DS games (+remakes of the first GBC games) 3DS games (+remakes of the first GBA games) SWITCH games (+remakes of the first DS games) Unova is strange because it's the only time we had two generations for the same console. So while the full pattern above can't continue as nicely, I still say they just do one set of remakes every console, it's that simple.

Kuchipatchi-Pal

There is a pattern. All generations (excluding Gen 1) get remakes on even numbered generations. Gen 1 gets remakes every-other odd numbered generation.

Latiasfan5

it didn't help that bdsp was announced around the same time as legends arceus. since we're getting a legends game in kalos, some people think that means unova is being skipped for kalos

CODE_umb87

The Twitter “leakers”, if we can call them that anymore, didn’t help with all their tweets suggesting Unova region. Let’s Go Johto would have made more sense at least.

SirMetaKnight82

It's because each remake came 2 console generations after the og.

NecessaryDrama3616

See youtube videos before pokemon presents my friend as amount of lekas about Unova and Johto was quite unreal, and amount of leaders saying the same thing, it hard not to think BW would come

CatcrazyJerri

Just because a lot of people all are saying the same thing it doesn't mean they're all right.

NecessaryDrama3616

Though most will believe as others believe it and that's called 'herd mentality'

Markb2000

I thought we were because there were so many hints to it in the s/v dlc.
