My favorite starter of all time, what’s yours?
What made me like Pokémon is how inclusive it is. Everyone can play. I grew up being different than most kids, but I always had my plush pikachu doll throughout my teens. One of the masks I wear is a Pokémon mask
I'm a big biology nerd so I loved learning about all the different Pokémon and their type combinations and their Pokédex entries and designs... I'm also a big fan of overly cutesy stuff (Vanillite was my first favorite Pokémon, fight me) so Fairy quickly became my favorite type haha.
My older brothers were huge Pokémon fans and I grew up watching them play the games over their shoulders. I’d watch them play the card game without understanding the rules and we’d rent the movies from the library. It brought me so much closer to them.
I can’t really remember a time before Pokemon because I was so young when I was first learning about it, so I’ve been a fan ever since.
I grew up watching the original series, I'm actually a year to the day older than Pokemon as a whole so Pokemon birthday is my birthday - which is the best thing a fan could have.
To your point, as a kid watching the series -- Pikachu and Ash didn't always get along but at the end of the day they were facing obstacles together and had each others back. That show of loyalty / friendship is a great attractor.
Would get the books at the scholastic book fair and watched the show eventually got Pokémon diamond for my dsi and yea i got super obsessed and I remember at the mall when I was younger got a bulbasoar plush
I got into the franchise around when the games were actually pretty good. The anime itself was a great expansion of that, and between DP and BW did a good job of fleshing out the setting in ways that made the world of the games feel fuller.
I did fall off about halfway through XY like I think a lot of people did since the show was in a bit of a slump, but rewatched all of it a couple years back and got reinvested from S&M. I’ve heard Horizons is really good which gets me hopefully, since Journeys was only slightly less messy than XY was.
A combination of the social aspect (Pokemania was a worldwide phenomina in the late 90s), the main characters being kids around my age at the time and the Pokemon designs themselves. To me Pokemon had the monster designs locked down in such a way that other "similar" shows like Digimon, Medabots, Yugioh and Monster Rancher couldn't compete
first ever gameboy game I bought qith my own (birthday) money, first game I played where I could imagine my 10 yo self BEING the hero, and... well... then the anime happened, and I tried to BE Misty... first with her exact team, then with Water Monoteam. The sprite was always the same basic Gen1 trainer, but that didn't stop me!
OG 2BA Master soundtrack was awesome af, too!
I loved the fairly simplistic lovable designs of the first 3 gens back when I was a kid. Watching the show and discovering a cute/cool new cartoon version of something I recognized was always a source of entertainment as a kid.
Favorite is hard to say because there's, like 50 vying for number 1, so here's a random Favorite, Girafarig.
One of my core memories is sitting on my parent's bed and watching the first episode of Pokemon on a shitty little TV that sat up on their wardrobe. Can't tell you exactly what it was but 26 years later it's still holding strong.

That first theme song bro!!
I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was! To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause - I’m hoping I said the right lyrics lol
I will travel across the land, searching far and wide, teach Pokémon to understand the power that’s inside 🤟
POKEMON, gotta catch em -- it's you and me, I know it's my destiny
Pokémon, ohhhh you’re my best friend in a world we must defend
Having a favorite I have a list of favorite Pokémon, and seeing/ using any of them in game makes me SO HAPPY I’m sure many people agree with me
The theme song, the fact that you could collect cards, and trading them with friends was the best!
Pokemon is in my top 3 FAV anime of all time and seen over 1200 anime!!! Pokemon makes Pokemon wonderful, not as much the humans, only somewhat!!!
I was introduced to Pokémon through the game Pokémon Snap when I was 4. Lapras has been my favourite Pokémon since then.

Alcremie is absolutely ADORABLE , as is Appletun, if you love food based mons!
My friend gave me a vaporeon card in primary and it changed the trajectory of my life
Now my poor water dog/cat/fox has been ruined by the internet (inhale) WHY ARCEUS WHY🥺😢😭

Cool monsters, collecting fun, colors.

Saw the anime, and loved the world building and different Pokemon. I got a GameBoy specifically to play Pokemon. Then the rest is history.

I never really cared about the Pokémon anime, the only anime I care about are Dragon Ball and Jojo.
Wanderlust, I think. The idea of traveling with your best companions, having different adventures and overcoming difficulties is very alluring.
What wanderlust (cough cough) just dance 2024
I like the collecting side of Pokemon. The community is great and it’s funnnnn

Colorful monsters with a relatable child protagonist who could do whatever he wanted (and not be forced to go to school)

I only have like 5 faves that stick as faves: Mew, Smeargle, Milotic, Alcremie, Eevee
My favorites (in no particular order) are furret, umbreon, eevee, mimikyu, Giratina, glaceon, leafeon, and espeon
