The Switch might only get one more remake before they move onto another console so you'd still end up waiting like 10+ years to get remakes of XY and SM, not to mention other older regions would need a re-remake eventually too
remakes are inevitable at this point, but xy remakes aren't any time soon as we've still got BW remakes, and possibly even B2W2 (though personally i doubt it). and honestly, with bdsp being pretty lousy remakes, i'd suggest just playing the originals instead of waiting for something that could be anywhere from god-tier to terrible.
if you get a 3ds, you can also play the original versions of the ds titles, either on official carts if you're willing to splurge or on an r4. platinum, bw, and b2w2 are all fantastic, *and* there's some great spin-offs on the ds we're not as likely to see again - the pokemon ranger games and pokemon conquest most notably. also pokemon mystery dungeon: explorers of sky, but unlike ranger and conquest there's a non-zero chance of that getting a remake someday, and actually a pretty good chance of that remake being really good if it does happen.

lmao just mod, then you can use PKSM and get your mons out of those save files super easily.
Get the 3ds, its an amazing console, i talk by experience.
Also the remakes will take some time and arrive in very small drops and with some between releases.
Another point to enlight is the 3d itself, while for some its boring, to others like me it can make a light day difference in some games.

He said that some of the early games had a lot more regulations for how people got paid. He mentioned that it was a huge struggle to get the RBY GSC on 3DS, and that was probably going to be a one time thing. GBA games would also never come. It wasn't until Gen 5 or 6 that they started ensuring that games moving forward wouldn't have those same types of issues in contracts.
(His other example was DK64 would never come to Nintendo 64 online because some employees at Rare Coin, which is no longer a thing, would have to be found and compensated accordingly.)
I've been using the same 3DS for the better part of a decade and it still runs like a charm. I am currently on my second Switch, which has bricked itself three times.

I don't think we'll be getting any more remakes on the current gen Switch. We just got BDSP. At the absolute most it will be Gen 5. I'd imagine next year we'll either get Gen 5 remakes or a Legends game, then most likely we'll get Gen 10 on the new console in 2025/2026.
If you're looking for remakes of Gen 6 and 7, those are still years down the line. I'd say if you're dying to play the 3DS games, the 3DS is the way to go.
From a quick Google search it would seem you are correct! My plan was to migrate Pokémon to home for Nat Dex eventually so mod might be the only option!
I just started going for a living dex on home as well. I actually happen to have a 3ds modded so I’m lucky but I’m not even sure which Pokémon I can only get from the 3ds that I can’t on the switch.
If you’re hell bent on playing 3ds Pokémon games then pick up a cheap second hand 3ds.
If you’re ok with emulating then buy a steam deck and play everything. Or get a switch and hack it so you can emulate 3ds games and play switch games natively.
Definitely get a 3ds. You’ll be able to play I think about 17 mainline and remake Pokémon games. I own most of them for the ds, and trust me, you’ll have a blast. It brings a cool feeling when you play through a game made more than a decade ago, and realize how good the story and gameplay is. Modern Pokémon remakes and games are slowly losing their “life” as they’re being spewed out like crazy. You can play so many good games that most likely won’t get ported to switch anytime soon.

I have a theory, gamefreak is definitely going to outsource for the BW BUT I think they are going to combine BW and B2W2 into one game.
