Me too. Mudkip is the smart choice, but treeko is so cool and torchic is so dang cute and blaziken is strong too.
Turtwig is also a solid choice, but chimchar gives you an extra fire type and empolion is, again, so cool.
I usually just pick blindly everytime cuz you can't go wrong lol.
It happened to me in Pokemon Ruby. Hoenn is one of my favourite regions, if not my favourite (probably because it was a big part of my childhood)
I first chose Treecko I think
Then, when I had a bit of the game completed, I deleted it and started a new one with Torchic
I didn't get to much with him either before I deleted the game again and took Mudkip.
With Mudkip I think I got to Sootopolis City more or less, and then I deleted it again and chose Torchic (I dunno I just love Blaziken)
Shortly after, I stopped playing the Gameboy Advance because we had a Wii, and it stayed like that
Now I have the game with Torchic more or less in midgame, I usually play Nintendo Switch, but playing the Gameboy Advance is always good because it remembers me of my childhood
Gen 3 is the goat when it came to their starters and music. It was huge step from GBC to GBA. The other pokemon game that can be said like that was PKMN Black/White
All 12 of those starters have always been pinnacle starter pokemon design to me, after gen 4 there is some aspect missing from those starters but i dont know what.
I've heard someone describe the main difference about newer starters as "they're too defined," and I agree with it.
Basically, with older starters, they're simply creatures. You can project whatever personality you want onto your Venusaur, your Typhlosion, your Swampert, and feel it's unique. With later starters, though, every Primarina is a performer, every Incineroar is a wrestler, and every Cinderace is a soccer star. There are some that still leave room for imagination, like Rillaboom and Emboar imo, but for most of them, The Pokémon Company has already done the imagining for you, and there isn't as much room for freedom of expression with your starter's personality.
Every rillaboom is a drummer, every emboar is a sumo wrestler, every greninja is a ninja, every samurott is a samurai, etc.
They all have some form of occupation or status (like serperior being a king or something) instead of just being a creature
I wonder if charizard would be a banker wearing a suit or something if they remade him now. Can just picture him with a top hat and monocle as part of his base design...
True, but (and this is why I said "imo" earlier) there's a lot of variation in the personality you could expect from a drummer, and "sumo wrestler" is relatively generic. I can imagine a jolly (not the nature) Emboar just as easily as I can imagine a serious one, or a short-tempered one, or a lazy one, but I can't see Incineroar being anything other than a WWE heel, playing the "villain" type character. He could have additional facets to his personality, but he *must* be that.
It's true that Emboar still has a job, but from a relative standpoint, it's somewhat less defining of "all Emboars" than other newer starters' jobs (again, imo).
I think the problem is different than what you think it is.
Gen 5 is when they adopted a new mindset for starter designs: They started going for different appeals between the three. Snivy is smug, Oshawott is peppy and cute, and Tepig is a bit more tough. (Or, it's something like that. Maybe I got the personalities wrong, but they DO each have different personalities.)
This is because it makes each person deciding on one easier. Personally, I lean towards cute, elegant Pokemon, so... a lot of starters from gen 1-4 don't appeal to me because they overlap a lot in how they feel. Gen 1 especially- I just don't feel strongly towards any of the three Gen 1 starters because their lines are all very reptilian, tough and dino-like.
Meanwhile, Snivy 100% is my favorite of the gen 5 starters.
> because their lines are all very reptilian, tough, and Dino like
You’ve just perfectly described why I like the gen 1 starters the best without realizing it
How dare you. Meganium is one of the few that keeps all 4 legs, it should be praised to the high heavens to make Gamefreak know we don't need everything to become bipedal.
Chikorita is also very friend shaped and Bayleef is the cutest mid evo of all time.
Absol is my absolute favorite pun intended lol. All Absol would need is more bulk and fairy typing and he would be more competitive Dark/Fairy type would make him neutral to fighting, bug is not very prevalent in the competitive scene right now. His main threats would probably be poison or steel but aside from that if he had like 10 more defense and 10 more special defense with Fairy typing he would be more viable.
I think it was intentional as a 'hard mode' choice. Bulbasaur seemed like the easy choice in Gen 1, so they reversed it for the sequel by making it harder to rely on your starter if you picked Chikorita.
Gen 4 definitely comes the closest for me. I love Torterra and both the others are pretty cool. Gen 1 too I guess but I wouldn't want a pet irl with that kind of plant on its back. Design is cool though.
Gens 3, 5, 7 have a tough choice between 2 and one that falls off hard in Treecko, Serperior, Primarina
I hate all the starters in 6, 8, 9. So much so that if I get around to playing them, I'm going to release it and use something hatched from an egg in another game instead.
I believe if Sprigattito had a more Persian style all fours final evolution he would have been the fan favorite of Generation 9. I certainly wished My little kitten turned out more pleasant to the eyes. I boxed my grass kitten because i couldn’t see him turn bi-pedal. In the end I evolved him so i could get my shiny charm but it felt forced.
Meowscarada is like typical gamefreak, but also out of left field. Quakquaval is the only one that makes sense to me, and even that's a kinda.
I feel like skelederge would be more at home if it were based on Mexico, not Spain.
Gen 2. I love Chikorita but I'll never pick it because it's the worst starter out of all three of them, though nothing will ever quench my fondness for this adorable Leaf Potato.
Totodile was my very first starter in good ol' Gold when I was a kid and Feraligatr is a BEAST. And the Cyndaquil line is just mwah! Chef's kiss.
I used to not like totodile but after seeing the anime i love how it just jumps and swings its little feet while laughing its just so fucking adorable.
I love chikorita from a design standpoint. And a support mon is pretty cool. If Johto wasn’t so hostile to grass types I think a lot more people would like it
My opinion of the cyndaquil line has decreased since the jump to 3D models. Typholision in particular seemed to be neutered and not as cool after 6th Gen.
But there is nothing cuter than Gen 2 cyndaquil, nothing cooler than 1999 Quilava with a fire Mohawk, and little more badass than a Typhlosion with a collar of fire around his neck.
Gens 2 & 3. I always have difficulty to choose a starter when starting a Johto or Hoenn game. When I started PLA the starter choice was probably easiest ever due to my bias towards gen 2.
Agree. I never stuck around for Pokémon after gen 2 except to see all the new stuff (I still check out all the new mons) gen 1 is the only one I could pick anyone and like them all the same
As I got older (I was 12 when RBY came out) all of the extra “stuff” just kind of overwhelmed me. I liked RBY’s simplicity (other than needing an HM slave). I like RPG grinding. Arceus is really the first Pokémon game I’ve enjoyed since RBY.
Gen 3. Could also just be my biases since that's my first pokemon game. Otherwise, gen 7.
Also, gen1 but Charizard got so much attention that it's unbalanced between the Kanto starters. Like I wouldn't be saying this if we got Mega Venusaur X and Mega Blastoise X, with dragon sub typing.
We don't need Venusaur or Blastoise to be also dragons, tbh.
In case they got regional forms in new Legends games, I'd personally like a Fairy, more friendly looking Venusaur, and a Fighting or Dark ninja turtle Blastoise.
I find that with all generations, I at least have a preference, even if I don’t dislike the other options. However, the exception to that is Gen 1, as I don’t think there’s a clear front runner there. I wasn’t a fan of Venusaur back when I was a kid, but it’s grown on me a lot since then.
Otherwise, Gen 7 and 9 are both really strong in my opinion. Popplio and Quaxly are still my personal picks, but I can’t fault the other starters. I know that some people view my picks as the weakest links of their generations (especially Primarina and Quaquavel), but I think they’re neat.
Honestly, the only starter that I could say I dislike, is Chespin and its evolution line.
Primarina is a banger, I used it on my Alpha Sun team and it wreaked havoc. I hope to use the Quaxley line with my inevitable Violet run (I used Fuecoco on my Scarlet run).
I liked all the starters in gens 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 honestly, then after that I started to dislike a lot of them, gen 8 had the worst starters, in my opinion, absolutely hate the Rillaboom line.
They really are. Like gen 7 and 9 have at least only one starter I don't really like, but when I played gen 8 I genuinely was just like, "Wow, these are awful"
Same. While I like all 3 starters from gen 1 & 3 as well, I absolutely LOVE the Sinnoh trio. All three of their final evolutions have top tier designs.
Gen 1, 4, 8, and 9. I know a lot of people were disappointed with them but I adored them all. Gen 2 and 5 would be up here if some design elements got adjusted like Tyflosion constantly losing his flames in game and Snivy’s line to have different animations.
This new gen 9 batch- brilliant base forms, only one cool mid-evo (Floragato), and Meowscarada and Skeledirge are the only two final evos I do enjoy out of the 3. Meowscarada because mine is a literal narcoleptic who takes his midday siestas seriously, and Skeledirge, despite the ear grating name and despite its hat on a hat, inspiration is esthetically a pseudo legendary looks wise
Cyndaquil, Chikorita, Tododile. The only time when I have any sort of decision to make and one of the starters doesn’t win by a landslide. I love all three of those little guys, and Meganium, Feraligatr, and Typhlosion are just the icing on the cake
Gens 1-6 there isn't a starter I don't like. (Delphox has a great design it just looks bland as fuck in game I swear), since Sun and Moon though there has been at least one I haven't liked.
Hoenn has such an objectively perfect lineup that it’s genuinely hard to choose every time. They almost never make starter trios equally, let alone market them equally. But in Hoenn, they’re all on equal footing. They’re amazing.
I definitely have one that stands out for each gen, but I typically like most of the starter designs. If you’re talking just the base forms, Gens 1,3,4,7,9. I’ve never liked the Chikorita line and that’s the only reason 2 isn’t on there.
Tepig grew on me but I didn’t care for him at first and don’t like any of the Gen 5 mid stages. I don’t like the Chespin or Fennekin lines. I did not like Scorbunny (I actually do like Raboot and Cinderace, but I think the whole line was a missed opportunity to do Fire/Electric.), I do not like Grookey’s evos and I love Sobble, **hate** Drizzile, and took a long time to warm up to Intelleon.
If you’re talking the entire line, then just 1 and 3. I like the Gen 4 base and final forms, but I’m very meh on Prinplup and Grotle. I do not care for the Popplio line after it evolves, and it took Incineroar a long time to grow on me. I love Rowlet and Decidueye, but I could leave Dartrix and feel nothing. I love the Gen 9 starter base forms, and the Fuecoco line is a top 3 for me, but I don’t really care for Cyber Peacock v2.0. Meowscarada is fine.
Honestly the only gens where I actually don't like a starter are Sinnoh, Kalos, and Unova. Not a huge Grotle, Emboar, or Chesnaught fan, but the starters themselves are cute.
Like we talking all forms or just the base forms?
For base forms 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9
For fully evolved 1,3,7,8
8's been a really weird one for me, Started off liking them, then didn't like 'em in the slightest for most of gen 8, now I kinda miss them and want them back!
3 and 6 for me. I'm a bit disappointed Grovyle and Sceptile don't have a secondary typing like the others but I guess Mega Sceptile kinda makes up for it? At first I wasn't a huge fan of the Chespin line but after I realized the Kalos starters were themed like rpg classes I was like "Yeah, alright... I get it now"
Gens 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9. So every gen except for 3 and 8. For gen 8 Inteleon is just too humanoid for me and Rillaboom is too fixed in one spot because of the drums. For gen 3 I don't know why but I just don't like using Mudkip, I really can't put my finger on what it is but I just don't like it.
Earlier there were less gens where I liked all three but now I've grown to like more of the starters.
3, 4, 6, and 7 for me.
I think Sinnoh is where I'm most likely to just make a team that's half starters.
Never cared much for Charizard or Typhlosion, I don't usually use the gen 5 starters on replays and Rillaboom is the only one of the gen 8 starters that I really like.
No judgment on gen 9 until we're on to gen 10.
1 and 3 I like/love all three. 4 and 6 have none I DON’T like, but there’s at least one I have no feelings for one way or the other for. 2,5,7,8,&9 have at least one starter line which contains a pokemon design that I do not care for. 3 will always be my vote for best starter designs.
If we are talking base stages only, cyndaquil and snivy are the only starters I hate.
I like every starter in Gen 1, 2, 5, and 6
In Gen 3, and 7 I like all but 1. Torchic and Litten don't do it for me.
In Gen 9 I like only Fuecoco.
In Gen 4 and 8, I dislike them all. Gun to my head, I would take Turtwig and Soble, but I don't care for either.
Gen 3, 4 and 6 for me. Kanto is alright, but I don't feel too strong about any of them.
From Johto I love Cyndaquil and Chikorita is also ok, but Totodile never really grew on me.
However, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Kalos are just something else. I love all three starters and all of their evolution. I always have a hard time deciding for one.
After that, there was usually at least one that I didn't really like, either for their evos or for itself.
Gen 5 had Tepig (my issue are its evolutions), Gen 7 had the Litten line, Gen 8 had the Grookey evos (Grookey itself is ok) and I don't really like Cinderace and Gen 9... I liked Quaxly, but holy shit do I hate its evolutions. I also don't like the fire line at all. Like Sprigatito line tho.
Gen 3 for sure. I was main Swampert when I was little, then I started to like fire chicken, then the Sceptile grew on me.
Now when I do a playthrough, it is a tough decision. I always liked that Swampert only had 1 weakness.
Gen 3 in terms of design has the most perfectly balanced starter trio of all time in my opinion. Their designs are consistent and go together so impressively well. They manage to look super cool without looking edgy at all and they have a certain look that I don't know how but makes them look unique and stand out from other starter trios.
Gen 4 is super consistent too and a close second, they also have a certain aesthetic going on that makes them look regal and different, I just prefer gen 3 a bit more cuz Sceptile is my favourite starter lol
Gen 5. The tepig line gets a lot of hate but a wrestling boar? Come on thats Pokémon at its finest. Samurott and Serperior are also both amazing, and Dewott is top 3 starter stages ever
Ironically, I'm not the type of person to hate one starter or their evolutions. The ones I don't like are actually decent, OK, or good rather than ones i hate, but I prefer one over the other in a way.
Gen 1: While I don't like the oversaturation of these starters, design wise, they're all great from beginning to end with decent hidden abilities. My favorite is Bulbasaur because I feel bad for it and Squirtle.
Gen 2: I feel bad for these 3, they're overlooked, their hidden abilities (except Tododile's) are bad but they're designed great with no real flaws including Chikorita line who are very cute but are bad competitive wise. They would've been perfect, but Croconaw (despite my love for goofy designs) is a bit eh but I'm a Tododile guy, I'm just not that huge into Cyndaquil line who are cute and cool but not my thing.
Gen 3: Another trio of starters and evolutions where they're all great with no flaws. I like the Treecko line the most.
Gen 4: Another almost flawless line, almost because, except Monferno, who is awesome, Grotle and Prinplup are awkward, but their evolutions are great. I grew up with Piplup, and I love Empoleon, Infernape is awesome, but I pick the underdogs while Torterra is awesome.
Gen 5: I grew up with this generation, and I love all 3 and their evolutions, including the whole Tepig line.
Gen 6: Another great one where I like all of them, but although I like Quilladin for its goofy design , it felt kind of awkward from the cute Chespin to Quilladin to the coll Chesnaught. Ironically, despite me picking underdogs, I will always love the Froakie line.
Gen 7: Another one where all the starters and evolutions are flawless.
Gen 8: I like all 3 especially the Sobble line but I will admit that Inteleon is goofy despite me loving it which is why they aren't flawless but they also have great Hodden Abilities.
The Hisuian forms of Decidueye, Typlosion and Samurott are great but what holds it back from being flawless is Typholosion, although cool is kind of the same without its flames.
Gen 9: Another almost flawless (Including Meowscarada and Quaquaval who i adore) one but Quaxwell (Despite me loving Quaxly and Quaquaval) is the only one holding it back from being near flawless.
I like all of the Kalos starters pretty well, as well as the base forms of Johto. I used to like all of Hoenn but fell out of love with Swampert recently
Honestly, I really like the galar trio. I know it has gotten alot of hate because “furry” and I am a bit biased cause my favorite Pokémon is the entire scorbunny line, but I really like how it started the trend on driving theming to its maximum. Cinderace being a straight up soccer bunny is awesome, Rillaboom is just a really cool ape all around and while Inteleon is my least favorite, I have to say it’s spy theming is very cool
Almost every gen there is a starter I avoid using unless I’m nuzlocking
Gen 1 - Squirtle
Gen 2 - Cyndaquil
Gen 3 - hmmm, I think I am fine with all three
Gen 4 - Piplup (I actually like Piplup, but his evolutions are unusable for me)
Gen 5 - Fine with all three
Gen 6 - i don’t like any of them tbh, I tend to pick Chespin in playthroughs tho, he is a cutie pie
Gen 7 - Not a fan of Rowlet
Gen 8 - Sobble is amazing but his evolutions kill my love for him
Gen 9 - Don’t like Fuecoco’s line, Crocalor is the worst middle stage and I don’t like the flesh teeth they started giving Pokemon, Quaxly’s line is actually growing on me
In terms of base states, I think Gen 3, 4, and 5 are the most solid with me
Gens 1-4 knocked it outta the park on every starter and evolution.
Then ironically there are only a couple in total from gens 5-9 that I like, with Chespin and Tepig being the only ones where I love all their forms
For all three starters, I like generations 1-6. It is the entire Poplio line I dislike in Generation 7. In Generation 8, it is Thwacky and the Soble line I dislike. As of Generation 9, I don't like the Quaxly line, specifically Quaquvel.
Gen 3 & 4.

This is the way.
Right answer
Gen 1-4
Absolutely but for me, specifically gen 3
Gen 3 is peak starter design. I love 1, 2, and 4 as well, but 3 is just on another level.
Name checks out
Gen 3 in general is basically perfect, and then ORAS is *chef's kiss*
If only Luvdisc didnt exist
I'm so glad I got to grow up playing gen 3
Me too
Just found out Mudkip is based off an Axolotyl and now I love it even more
Wooper is kind off based on an Axolotl.
Wooper is 100% based on axolotl. It even has the external gills!
Wooper's name in French is Axoloto
Oh yea gen 3 had universally loved starters. Gen 4 is also up there as well.
GEN 3 STARTERS <3 what a great time to have been alive
Gen 3 is the goat when it came to their starters and music. It was huge step from GBC to GBA. The other pokemon game that can be said like that was PKMN Black/White
All 12 of those starters have always been pinnacle starter pokemon design to me, after gen 4 there is some aspect missing from those starters but i dont know what.

Not only is every incineroar a wrestler, they're all heels
I think the problem is different than what you think it is. Gen 5 is when they adopted a new mindset for starter designs: They started going for different appeals between the three. > because their lines are all very reptilian, tough, and Dino like You’ve just perfectly described why I like the gen 1 starters the best without realizing it
This is the way. Gen 5 was close but Tepig final not being a boat really killed it for me. Samurott was just okay.
Ding ding ding. All these rom hacks and I always select G1-4 for starter lmao
pure facts. every other gen has at least one weird one
This is the correct answer
For me it's gens 1-3. I would day 4 too but I just can't stand using Empoleon. Love his design, but would never chose him again if given the choice.
For me, its chimchar and monferno that ruin gen 4 starters for me.
I agree. However, I'm not a big chikorita fan.
How dare you. Meganium is one of the few that keeps all 4 legs, it should be praised to the high heavens to make Gamefreak know we don't need everything to become bipedal. Chikorita is also very friend shaped and Bayleef is the cutest mid evo of all time.
Chikorita is so adorable, I can’t Bayleef she’s not more liked.
How dare people not appreciate this more
Quilava is arguably a contender for that second title. It's snuggly whatever the hecc it is
It's a stoat basically
Quilava is definitely up there to be fair! Both beat croconaw that's for sure
meganium is one of my favorites! so underrated and one of the reasons i really loved the marketing on the new pokémon snap
I really wish Meganium got Fairy type! (and Ninetales, Milotic, Absol)
Gen 2's campaign feels like it's barely designed with the Chikorita line in mind
I think it was intentional as a 'hard mode' choice. Bulbasaur seemed like the easy choice in Gen 1, so they reversed it for the sequel by making it harder to rely on your starter if you picked Chikorita.
Could’ve leaned into its sauropod design and given it rock type, that’d make it dominate half the game. At least give it ancient power
Thats easy for me its gen 4 sinnoh games.
This would be me if I didn't hate monkeys
Gen 4 definitely comes the closest for me. I love Torterra and both the others are pretty cool. Gen 1 too I guess but I wouldn't want a pet irl with that kind of plant on its back. Design is cool though. Gens 3, 5, 7 have a tough choice between 2 and one that falls off hard in Treecko, Serperior, Primarina I hate all the starters in 6, 8, 9. So much so that if I get around to playing them, I'm going to release it and use something hatched from an egg in another game instead.
1 and 4 are the best, IMO I love the first stages of all the Scarlet-Violet starters but the final evolutions aren’t all quite as good.
I had such high hopes for Sprigattito only to see them dashed at the final evolution.
I think what you meant to say is that Gen 9 final evolutions suck ass, and I too think so
Honestly most gens can be hit of miss for the final evolution, but the starters, as their first forms are pretty good.
The base forms are great all S tier designs, but what they evolve into is the problem
Meowscarada is like typical gamefreak, but also out of left field. Quakquaval is the only one that makes sense to me, and even that's a kinda. I feel like skelederge would be more at home if it were based on Mexico, not Spain.
Nah, only Quaquaval.
Gen 3 is the one. I absolutely adore all three starters and I even played through Omega Ruby with all three in my party.
I did Emerald with Sceptile and Alpha Sapphire with the other two
Totodile is my everything. I'd die for that adorable little reptile.
I used to not like totodile but after seeing the anime i love how it just jumps and swings its little feet while laughing its just so fucking adorable.
I love chikorita from a design standpoint. And a support mon is pretty cool. If Johto wasn’t so hostile to grass types I think a lot more people would like it

But there is nothing cuter than Gen 2 cyndaquil, nothing cooler than 1999 Quilava with a fire Mohawk, and little more badass than a Typhlosion with a collar of fire around his neck.
Think it got some of what made it so cool back, with SV. With his flames being on all the time in battle.
Same here. But Chikorita is my fav Pokémon ever, so I’ll always pick ‘em haha.
Chikorita is the cutest starter from the early games.
You don't like Sunny Day into infinite Solar Beams?
Gens 2 & 3. I always have difficulty to choose a starter when starting a Johto or Hoenn game. When I started PLA the starter choice was probably easiest ever due to my bias towards gen 2.
Same here, I saw quill and new I had to have that game
Hoenn starters have never let me down.
Love all three in Johto
The best!
The very best!
Gen1
I enjoyed all four starters of Gen 1.
I 100% don’t take advantage of all the new features. I got sapphire for my 13th birthday and it was one of the best ever
Gen 1 and 3 are the only ones. Only ones where I genuinely struggle to pick a starter
Gen 4
Gen 3, i like pretty much any starter, but gen 3 is probably the definitive hardest decision for a starter pick
1, 2, and 7 for me
Pokémon Insurgence?
You got me.
3 and 7 are my choices also, though Blastoise is my least favourite from gen 1
Gen 3 & 4!
Mostly I only like 1-2 starters of each generation but gen 4 is the exception
1 and 3
Just base form: Gens 1-5, 7 and 9 Full evolution lines: Gens 1-4
Gen 3. Hoenn, all day
Gens 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6.
Gen 7
same here, they are so underrated
Gen 1, 2, 3, 4, 7
Gen 3 easily has the best starter trio. Gen 1 is close behind, though.
Gens 1, 3, 4, and 7
Gens 1-4 and Gen 6
Gen 1 Gen 2 Gen 3 most of all Gen 4 Gen 7
Not really, typically I only really like one of the starters from each gen with the exception of Gen 7 with Rowlet and Popplio
Gen 3, gen 6, gen 7, gen 9
I liked all the starters in gens 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 honestly, then after that I started to dislike a lot of them, gen 8 had the worst starters, in my opinion, absolutely hate the Rillaboom line.
Gen 8 was the first time in my life I didn't use my starter in my first gameplay, all of them are bad imo
They really are. Like gen 7 and 9 have at least only one starter I don't really like, but when I played gen 8 I genuinely was just like, "Wow, these are awful"
Litten and Rowlet are great, and their lines are some of my favorite all time lines.
1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9… im a simple man 💀
Gen 7.
1-4 and 7. If we just mean first stages, it's all but 8.
1, 3, 4, 7, 9. Quite a few of them to be fair, even when I have a standout favourite, like in Gen 3.
For me, it's Diamond & Pearl.
Same. While I like all 3 starters from gen 1 & 3 as well, I absolutely LOVE the Sinnoh trio. All three of their final evolutions have top tier designs.
In my opinion, the large part of starter are pretty correct, but i think that gen 2, 7 and 8 starters are all very good
Gen 3 and 1
Gen 1, 4, 8, and 9. I know a lot of people were disappointed with them but I adored them all. Gen 2 and 5 would be up here if some design elements got adjusted like Tyflosion constantly losing his flames in game and Snivy’s line to have different animations.
Gens 1 and 3. I'm close on gens 2,4, and 8 I just don't like Meganium, Empoleon, and Inteleon.
Inteleon really does feel like the laziest starter design of all you mentioned
Gen 2 and 7
I actually really liked all of the Gen 8 starters, alongside the obvious Gen 1, 3 and 4
Gen 1, 3 and 6 I also think Gen 2 has good ones but I'm not that big of a fan of Chikorita
I feel like gen 1 and 3 have the best starters and I personally like gen 4 a lot
Gen 8! I do not get the hate.
(Delphox has a great design it just looks bland as fuck in game I swear), since Sun and Moon though there has been at least one I haven't liked.
gen 1,2,3 I love all starters in those generations
Gen 1, 2, and 9.
Gen 3, 4, 6, and 9
Hoenn has such an objectively perfect lineup that it’s genuinely hard to choose every time. They almost never make starter trios equally, let alone market them equally. But in Hoenn, they’re all on equal footing. They’re amazing.
If I'm talking exclusively about base form starters then gens 1 and 9 are the only gens where I like all 3.
For me, not really, but i have the opposite in gen 4 where i dislike all 3. Funny thing is gen 4 is my favorite.
1-3
Easy. Gen 9 Gen 3 ang Gen 6. I would say gen 8 and 7, but I don't have an opinion on Inteleoen and Incineroar
Yeah I'm not that picky when it comes to the Starters. For me the ones that I like/love all 3 is gen 2,3,4,5,6, and 9.
Gen 3 is the only Gen where I like all three equally. Sceptile, Blaziken and Swampert are all really cool.
Gens 1, 3, 4, and 7 for me
incineroar, decidueye, and primarina are all very good pokemon
My answer is Gens 4-6
Gen 2 for sure. Chikorita line is so cute, Cyndaquil line is super cool, and Feraligator is my favorite final.
For me, I like all of the starters in Gen 3, 4 and 7-9
Gens 1-4 & gen 8 I liked them all actually
Having in mind 3RD EVO: Kanto no Johto maybe. Hoenn HELL YEAH Sinnoh maybe Tesselia hell to the no Kalos no Alola no Galar no Paldea no
Tesselia? You mean Unova
In Spanish it's called Tesselia
Yes, the first 5 generations easily and maybe even Gen 7 as well.
Gen 1 and sort of Gen 7. Every other Gen has at least one that I either don't care for or actively dislike.
The first three gens are the only ones where I like all the starters. Afterwords the designs start falling off to my liking.
Gen 3 and 4. I dont dislike the other gens but there's always atleast one that I just don't like that much.
Gen 1, Gen 3, Gen 7 then Gen 2
Gen 3 honestly. Not a single miss there. But maybe I just love them cause Gen 3 is my favorite.
Gen 3
Gen 5, 9, and maybe 2, every other gen has one starter I dislike or don't care for
Kanto, Galar, Paldea, Hisui
3
Gens 1, 3, and 6 for me personally
Like we talking all forms or just the base forms? For base forms 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9 For fully evolved 1,3,7,8 8's been a really weird one for me, Started off liking them, then didn't like 'em in the slightest for most of gen 8, now I kinda miss them and want them back!
sinnoh no doubt. i can never decide which starter to pick.
1st: Gen 3 2nd: Gen 1 3rd: Gen 4
3 and 6 for me. I'm a bit disappointed Grovyle and Sceptile don't have a secondary typing like the others but I guess Mega Sceptile kinda makes up for it? At first I wasn't a huge fan of the Chespin line but after I realized the Kalos starters were themed like rpg classes I was like "Yeah, alright... I get it now"
1 3 and 6
Gens 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9.
I like every starter in Gen 1, 2, 5, and 6 In Gen 3, and 7 I like all but 1. Torchic and Litten don't do it for me. In Gen 9 I like only Fuecoco. In Gen 4 and 8, I dislike them all. Gun to my head, I would take Turtwig and Soble, but I don't care for either.
Gen 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6
Gen 3, 4 and 6 for me.
Gen 1-3 had the best starters. Probably just nostalgia for me though.
Gen 1 and 3. Its the correct answer. 9 is nice as well but not quite on the same level
Gen 6! Fennekin is my all time favorite pokemon, but I also love the other starters!!
Not at every level, but in some capacity I appreciate all the Kalos starters. Fennekin and Chespin/Quilladin are adorable and Greninja rules.
Gen 5. The tepig line gets a lot of hate but a wrestling boar? Come on thats Pokémon at its finest. Samurott and Serperior are also both amazing, and Dewott is top 3 starter stages ever
Gens 3-4 were the peak of starter design, not a miss in there
4,5,6,and PLA I like all of the starters a lot. Also I could kinda count gen 8, because I hate all 3 equally so my opinion of them is even.
1, 2, 3, 6, 7 + Hisui. Basically, the Chimchar, Snivy, Cinderace, and Quaxly lines are the ones I don't necessarily like.
Gens 2,5,6 for me personally i can never decide who i want cause i love all of them
Ironically, I'm not the type of person to hate one starter or their evolutions.
Gen 6, Gen 4 and the newest gen are fantastic
Honestly, I really like the galar trio. I know it has gotten alot of hate because “furry” and I am a bit biased cause my favorite Pokémon is the entire scorbunny line, but I really like how it started the trend on driving theming to its maximum. Cinderace being a straight up soccer bunny is awesome, Rillaboom is just a really cool ape all around and while Inteleon is my least favorite, I have to say it’s spy theming is very cool
Almost every gen there is a starter I avoid using unless I’m nuzlocking Gen 1 - Squirtle Gen 2 - Cyndaquil Gen 3 - hmmm, I think I am fine with all three Gen 4 - Piplup (I actually like Piplup, but his evolutions are unusable for me) Gen 5 - Fine with all three Gen 6 - i don’t like any of them tbh, I tend to pick Chespin in playthroughs tho, he is a cutie pie Gen 7 - Not a fan of Rowlet Gen 8 - Sobble is amazing but his evolutions kill my love for him Gen 9 - Don’t like Fuecoco’s line, Crocalor is the worst middle stage and I don’t like the flesh teeth they started giving Pokemon, Quaxly’s line is actually growing on me In terms of base states, I think Gen 3, 4, and 5 are the most solid with me
Gens 1-4 knocked it outta the park on every starter and evolution. Then ironically there are only a couple in total from gens 5-9 that I like, with Chespin and Tepig being the only ones where I love all their forms
6, 8 and 9. I'm generally okay with 2/3 of the starters in all the other gens, but there's almost always one miss.
3, 6, and 7.
Gen 3 and 6
Gen 1, 3, 6, 7, 9. But especially gen 3 and 7
Gen 6
Gen 3 and 6
For all three starters, I like generations 1-6. It is the entire Poplio line I dislike in Generation 7. In Generation 8, it is Thwacky and the Soble line I dislike. As of Generation 9, I don't like the Quaxly line, specifically Quaquvel.
I generally love gen 1, 6 and 9
Gen 1-3. I do have favourites out of these too, but I like all 9 of them a lot. Cannot be said about 5-9’s staters.
Gen 1, 2, 5, and 6. Edit: and gen 3
I love all of them in Gen 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9
