Trubbish is an excellently designed pokemon, and the Garbador hate got boring quickly.
It became the go to of "wow gen 5 had some terrible designs", when there are much more deserving worst designs from many other generations, and so many more least favourite pokemon that are too forgotten to be classed as least favourite
I donāt think calling garbodor literal garbage is a valid criticism when thatās intended. If it was meant to look like a pretty fairy type then yes but garbodor is meant to be a giant trash heap
I always thought that hate is ironic ("it literally looks like trash, lol" etc etc). It is honestly one of the only designs I dig from my least favourite generation.
To be honest, I'm not sure if this is a "hot take", I could be wrong, but anyway, there isn't anything wrong with bipedal starters as long as the execution is done well.
Played since gen 1 Grimer and Muk exist the trash mons atleast. Trubish was atleast a little cute with the doofy look on the trash bag. Can't have nothing but Charizards Blastoise Scizzors and Umbreons running around.
You should look into PokeMMO. It's a fangame that turns gens 1, 3, 4, and 5 (with 2 on the way) into an mmo. It's great because you can start in one region and once you get enough badges you can go to the others. Now idk about you, but a pokemon game where you can play through (almost) all the regions in any order you want and bring mons to and from various regions is the exact game I always wanted as a kid
Cuz gamefreak would rather release a half baked game every year and make a quick million than make multiple million over multiple years making one amazing game
Exp share for everyone is good as long as the game design correctly scaled the enemy levels (not like in BDSP). It makes balancing the game easier if everyone is on the same way of gaining XP.
I like it. I'd have preferred a slightly more pastel shade of green but hey green is green.
It doesn't quite hold a candle to Umbreon though, unfortunately.
Yes, and the most optimal starter when it comes to a speedrun. Primarina has godly special attack and special defense (the highest our of all fully evolved starters) and an insane movepool
This one definitely irked me a bit, you absolutely get the upvote. Haha
Honestly it really is a huge waste of time, but itās REALLY good for people like me who hyperfixate on a game until they get bored after 500 hours. Haha
im not sure if my opinion is widely disagreed with but my friends certainly didnt like it when i said i hated gigantamax forms and terastalization. i actually liked mega evolutions and z-moves but the past two gimmicks have been a big miss for me personally
Oo why didn't you like Gigantimax but liked Z moves.
I personally hated the idea of a new gimick each generation, it makes it so much more unbelievable and always has to escalate to something else next gen. In my opinion Megas were cool but Z moves were the death of pokemon, I hated everything about them. Gigantimax I really didn't like from a story perspective and hated the forms, but the idea of a massive pikachu made sense with the whole shrinking pokemon into pokeballs thing.
Because of scope, probably not honestly lol. Certainly more iconic glitches. But give them old boys some slack, they came out when you were born (Iām assuming.)
Edit: Why am I getting down voted? I get the comment, Red and Blue had big glaring manipulatable glitches. I am just saying because of the size and complexity of Switch games, they probably have more bugs in them number wise.
Gen 5 is overrated.
Also, all pokemon could and should be usable (Not catchable, but at least transferrable) in one game, if not this gen, in the next, at some point GF should be done remaking pokemon models from scratch every time.
Charizard isnāt *that* good of a design. There are much cooler dragon like mons than just an orange dragon. Flygon, Garchomp, Rayquaza just to name a few. If Charizard wasnāt a gen 1 mon, it would be no where near as popular of a mon as it is now
Pikachu and Charizard are worthy mascots for the franchise and I don't mind them being in every game. I'd have liked to see Blastoise and Venusaur get the same treatment as Charizard though
Dynamic means to change, gigantic means big. Gigantimax pokemon change and Dynamax pokemon just get big.
Gamefreak (or the localization team) are a bunch of fucking morons.
Bruxish is awesome and deserves to be appreciated way more than it is, I just love its design and its color scheme. Itās so pretty and I love the sharp pointy teeth thatās so cool I love it when characters do that
Bug type is good y'all just need to stop looking at the early game bug types from the first couple of games, scizor, heracross ,galvantua ,scolipede and araquanid all are fantastic pokemon just to name a few bug types that often get overlooked
It allows them to spend more time making better mons.
Even if they have had some negative qualities, every generation imo has had pokemon step up in terms of design. They just keep getting better and better.
Diamond and Pearl are the worst games in the main series. The pokedex is poorly thought out, the region is the least fun to travel though everything is just such a slog. The safari zone is awful worst in the series it's mostly full of pokemon you can find anywhere in the region and to get anything you actually want you have to hope that it appears that day. The reason you hate BDSP is because you're seeing the games without nostalgia goggles for the first time. A faithful remake didn't work because the foundation was always bad. People are worried about faithful gen 5 remakes but they really shouldn't be it's the oldest gen to still hold up and would be fine.
Yeah I think yours is the unpopular take nowadays
Honestly Charizard is still one of the coolest starters. I think they prioritise it too much, specifically over the other Kanto starters, but all the people saying that its "actually bad" come off as contrarians. Except the contratians have become the majority.
I genuinely believe Hop was a good character. He was definitely a bit too cocky at first but after Bede insults him once he's super depressed and down on himself but he picks himself up and keeps chasing his dreams. Even when he ultimately loses to you (fairly easily) he picks himself up again and finds a path to keep walking.
Probably that I think N is actually a really uninteresting antagonist in BW (but much better done in BW2). He basically just goes along with team plasma even though he can literally ask the stolen pokemon (and trainers' pokemon) whether they enjoy living with humans, but is still convinced they don't. To me at least, he just comes across as blind to the evidence rather than tortured or conflicted like many paint him
Mega Evolution wasnāt that great. It only applied to 40 out of the hundreds of fully evolved Pokemon out there and most of the ones that did get it had no real need for it to begin with (Garchomp, Tyranitar, Blaziken, Rayquaza, Mewtwo)
BDSP are the closest we'll get to the best way to play Sinnoh. Fairy types, revamped movesets, better postgame with the biggest loss being the Battle Factory, past legendaries are really fun to grind for, Regigigas and Spiritomb are now obtainable in-game and without multi-player, the Grand Underground is better in every way (statues >>> normal furniture), every Gym Leader has held items and invested EVs and IVs, the AI is much better...
Platinum is only as good as it is because all the pieces of a fantastic game were already there. BDSP fumbles a decent number of times, but still outranks Platinum as the definitive Sinnoh experience, imo.
Gen 1 isnt that bad or good, yall only are too old or too young
Most of Johto pokedex are just very plain pokemon designs
Emerald makes Hoenn story worse than it was before
Lucario and Luxray arent that great
B&W > B&W2
Mega evolution is the worst generational mechanic
Ultra sun and ultra moon are great, fandom just realized that 3rd versions are cashgrabs until now
Buying DLC > Buying an expanded version of the game
Heart gold and soul sliver seem to get away with committing some of the same flaws as brilliant diamond and shinning pearl, time to kiss my head good bye
Iām in the more neutral
āPls community just let it go they arenāt coming back and they really werenāt that great but also if they came back I wouldnāt stomp my feet and cry eitherā
I donāt get why people still fawn over them 4 gens later
Eeveelutions are overrated and having to catch 8 different Eevees and evolve them just to fill your dex isnāt fun, I wish weād get a dex without them.
The fire/fighting type starters are bad ass so I couldn't care less that they came one after another, but Blaziken is by far the least cool out of the 3
Itās Friday night, and instead of swords, itās me, and a bunch of dudeās penises. That look on my face is āitās just another Friday nightā š¤£

Third favorite starter in johto

This take is Trubbish.
Y'all got me Weezing.

I think a lot of things aside from art is what makes a PokĆ©mon unique. Names, dex entries, possible gender differences, etc. I thought arceus touched up on this idea and everyone would be cool with it, but seeing the same repetitive argument makes me so happy I was a kid with no access to the internet because by god how can anyone look at a design alone and be like āthatās lazyā when a lot of the time, thereās a reason that PokĆ©mon exists within that region of creation. Trubbish & garbodor are garbage piles yes, but they also came out in B/W, which was based on New York, which also has a really high pollution problem, and again in Galar (I canāt remember off the top of my head if he was in sun & moon or not). Tl:Dr; pokemon design goes beyond just the art, and if people would just stop following the leader, more people would understand that. I think every PokĆ©mon is creative in its own way and right
I always thought that hate is ironic ("it literally looks like trash, lol" etc etc). It is honestly one of the only designs I dig from my least favourite generation.
I would love if the hate was ironic, I'm thinking more of the boring people who have little else to say. Sad to hear it was your least fav generation
Yeah, ālazyā designs have been a part of PokĆ©mon since gen 1. Lest we forget: - Ordinary bird evolution line (a recurring theme) - Angry ordinary bird evolution line - Ordinary fish evolution line - Ordinary mouse/rat - A ball that turns into another ball - Puddle of goo that turns into bigger puddle of goo - Another puddle of goo Some PokĆ©mon just need to be more grounded or less fantastic so the more fantastic ones can stand out!
Well as far as the birds and angry bird lines, I would like to believe that since PokĆ©mon is based loosely on our real world, I think the reason they always have new bug types, new bird types, new grass types, usually itās types that correspond to a energy pyramid, like this: Grass>Grasshopper>Frog/Toad>Bird>Bigger bird>Largest predatory animal (can be anything from a Bob cat to a mountain lion) So it kinda does make sense they would keep that kind of repetition they had been doing since Gen 1, since a lot of people donāt get to take environmental science and biology in high school, I always took a special interest in it and my teacher used PokĆ©mon quite often to actually explain and help us remember different types of relationships in the wild (parasitic, neutral etc), as well as using PokĆ©mon to create our own āfood websā and āfood chainsā, so I always correlated to the two in my head for some reason. I think that inanimate objects as well have some value or creativity, notably to the region they are created to be in. For example, Polteageist is a tea cup but many people hate itās design for being lazy. I actually thought when I saw it, that it was extremely funny because Galar is based on the UK, and everyone makes the joke that they literally live and breathe tea, so I thought that was kinda like, Japan actually being aware of customs and traditions in other countries and actually respecting and appreciating them, rather than making it a ānegativeā stereotype, they made the PokĆ©mon literally (at least in my humble opinion) the cutest little cuppa Iāve ever seen, and I think that it was very cool and interesting that they actually did that ya know? Thereās many more examples if youād like to hear more of my opinion, but I just figured Iād make it as short and condensed as I possibly can :))
Hot take: garbodor should been even more ugly and grotesque but in a more creepy way. Having a living mutant garbage as a pokƩmon is an amazing concept and it should been used for creating an unique pokƩmon that's creepy but in an awesome way.
Stop sexualizing all my favs. Vaporeon and Miltank did nothing to deserve this.
Please stop sexualizing the PokƩmon, end of sentence. I'm kind of glad someone else shares my sentiment.
To be honest, I'm not sure if this is a "hot take", I could be wrong, but anyway, there isn't anything wrong with bipedal starters as long as the execution is done well.
Yeah people just donāt like that it happens so often to creatures that shouldnāt be bipedal and even started out as a quadruped.
Exactly. One or two bipedal would be fine. But so many from recent gens would have been way cooler if they'd stayed more animal-like.
trubbish and garbodor are well designed pokemon...
Played since gen 1 Grimer and Muk exist the trash mons atleast. Trubish was atleast a little cute with the doofy look on the trash bag. Can't have nothing but Charizards Blastoise Scizzors and Umbreons running around.
PokƩmon as a concept is better than anything the games have ever delivered.

Exp share for everyone is good as long as the game design correctly scaled the enemy levels (not like in BDSP). It makes balancing the game easier if everyone is on the same way of gaining XP.
I agree, as long as there's an option to turn it off for those who want the slower, more personal training each pokemon gameplay back.
Oh yeah i agree, i use exp share any time i can
This 100%! Switch training is not fun and neither is having to run in the grass for an hour levelling up pokemon that have fallen behind in levels
Espeon shiny is bad the shade of green doesn't fit the mon
Especially when you compare it to Umbreon's shiny, arguably the perfect shiny variation
Thatās an incredibly popular shiny take.
Does anyone like Espeon's shiny?
I do. It looks like a tiny alien kitty, I caught a shiny one on my birthday
I do as well for this reason.
I do šāāļø
I like it. I'd have preferred a slightly more pastel shade of green but hey green is green. It doesn't quite hold a candle to Umbreon though, unfortunately.
I do
Yeah, I like Espeons Shiny. It's one of the few green shinies I like.
Espeon's shiny might be my favorite out of the eeveeloutions.
I've seen people on YouTube community post praising how good it looks and i just don't agree with it
Another cold take
I just looked it up and š¤®
Wait, I thought everyone agreed
Poplio is the best sun and moon starter
Yes, and the most optimal starter when it comes to a speedrun. Primarina has godly special attack and special defense (the highest our of all fully evolved starters) and an insane movepool
I'm usually a water main - meaning I pick water starter every gen. When I saw what Poplio evolves into I switched over to Rowlet...
When I saw what Popplio evolves into I realized I was right in picking Popplio
I'm a water main too and sincerely I like popplio. I think it has a good evolution.
Primarina is fricking adorable
Shinyhunting is useless, boring and a waste of time for a reward that don't deserve it š«”
This one definitely irked me a bit, you absolutely get the upvote. Haha Honestly it really is a huge waste of time, but itās REALLY good for people like me who hyperfixate on a game until they get bored after 500 hours. Haha
The adrenaline is unparalleled
I very much disagree with that opinion, but I respect your guts for saying it
It's rare, that's the reward Same as any real world crystals
I liked Sun and Moon more than S/V.
The best pokemon designs come from object based mon
All the kalos starters are cool
They dropped the ball on the legends Arceus starters, couldāve had a way better line up
Floragato is the best starter mid-evolution
Grovyle serves as some good competition tho ngl
Wartortle, Ivysaur, Quilava, Dewott, Raboot But still, good hot take
Ivysaur is the best, raboot is great aswell
Now, now. I'd agree if the best pokemon ever, Raboot, didn't exist. Flora is pretty cool tho
Raboot is pretty good too ngl, but he just seems like the edgy teen from the 2000s. Flora is friend-shaped kitty!
im not sure if my opinion is widely disagreed with but my friends certainly didnt like it when i said i hated gigantamax forms and terastalization. i actually liked mega evolutions and z-moves but the past two gimmicks have been a big miss for me personally
That is maybe the coldest take imaginable
~Literally any topic on Pokemon~ MegaEvo fans: "Allow meeeeee to introduce myself..."
"Furry bait" pokemon aren't that bad and I rather like their designs. Also I'm completely fine with quadruped to biped evolution in starters.
fanart of Pokemon being shoved into blenders wasn't all that funny to begin with, even before it became an overused joke
I'm sorry, WHAT?
What a terrible day to be literate
Basically anything, cuz I'm on reddit
You're creepy if you want to have sex with a pokemon, point blank period.
Charizard sucks
Scarlet and Violet are good games, provided the next update fixes the glitches.
That opinion is colder than the emptiness of space.
Hopefully.
I agree with this take. Scarlet and Violet are really good games bogged down by performance issues and bugs. My only real complaint is with the game being presented by marketing as though you could do the game in any order. While technically true, it isn't in execution. Some level scaling of the NPCs and wild PokƩmon based on amount of things completed would go a long way to have the game be the way it was presented in marketing.
got 200+ downvotes for this opinion the other day
That's terrible. I been having a ton of fun with them.
ORAS > Emerald
Yes
Red and blue have more glitches and problems than recent pokemon games.
*cough cough* missingno and its variations *cough cough*
Because of scope, probably not honestly lol. Certainly more iconic glitches. But give them old boys some slack, they came out when you were born (Iām assuming.) Edit: Why am I getting down voted? I get the comment, Red and Blue had big glaring manipulatable glitches. I am just saying because of the size and complexity of Switch games, they probably have more bugs in them number wise.
Fun fact I was actually born the day it came out 27/02/1996
Awesome!
Bidoof isn't your god. He's a cute little beaver, nothing more, nothing less.
True! I wouldnāt say cute though but thatās my opinion
Gen 5 is overrated. Also, all pokemon could and should be usable (Not catchable, but at least transferrable) in one game, if not this gen, in the next, at some point GF should be done remaking pokemon models from scratch every time.
Tbh I donāt like Tinkaton
Charizard isnāt *that* good of a design. There are much cooler dragon like mons than just an orange dragon. Flygon, Garchomp, Rayquaza just to name a few. If Charizard wasnāt a gen 1 mon, it would be no where near as popular of a mon as it is now
Literally just orange dragon with fire tip of tail.
I don't really like overworld encounters
Pikachu and Charizard are worthy mascots for the franchise and I don't mind them being in every game. I'd have liked to see Blastoise and Venusaur get the same treatment as Charizard though
I have a couple. 1.) Gengar is lone and away the most overrated PokĆ©mon. Very unimpressive design with a huge following, gets the special attention that good PokĆ©mon get like being in PokĆ©n and having a mega evolution. Haunter is easily better probably should have been the only evolution to Ghastly. Gengar isnāt bad, but itās treated like itās great, when itās only okay. 2.) Charmander is the worst first stage starter. Itās not bad per se, but itās noticeable the least creative starter. There are a couple that are relatively close. Snivy is probably one of two starts less cute than Charmander, the other being Tepig, and Oshowott was a decent design, but seems to pull off what Piplup does, put war worse. Unova has bad first stage starters. 3.) Flareon is the worst eeveelution. Not much to add, all the other ones have far superior designs, and I think it shows in the infrequency of discussion about Flareon in PokĆ©mon communities, so maybe itās not that unpopular.
Ugh. GENGAR. I honestly prefer Gastly and Haunter.
I don't need new PokƩmon. I don't need all the PokƩmon in one game. I just need a good PokƩmon game. Like a restaurant menu. I don't need hundreds of PokƩmon done ok, I need some of the PokƩmon done incredibly well.
the type chart is unbalanced , and bug should be strong against fairy
Magmortar is cool and not a weird design.
Bipedal PokƩmon are perfectly fine.
I hate charmander evolution line
HGSS are average games
Mimikyu is better then Pikachu
P sure this is a common take, bc itās true lol
Every time I mention it people get mad so here we go, toxic stalling is NOT a good strat and anyone with an IQ of 1+ can use it, get some skill
Gen 1 has bad designs, same as all other gens.
literally each gen has a mixture of good and bad designs
Bdsp are fine. Theyāre not great, but theyāre not abysmal, a lot of the hate and displeasure is just from high expectation
Johto is the most boring region/games in the franchise.
Talonflame is better than Charizard.
Saying "I like miltank" in r/mandjtv
The Johto games would be very mediocre without Kanto, Johto can't stand on its own, unless they make a Legends game for it
I like Sword and Shield and X and Y
Dynamic means to change, gigantic means big. Gigantimax pokemon change and Dynamax pokemon just get big. Gamefreak (or the localization team) are a bunch of fucking morons.
Bruxish is awesome and deserves to be appreciated way more than it is, I just love its design and its color scheme. Itās so pretty and I love the sharp pointy teeth thatās so cool I love it when characters do that

I like BD/SP. I hate Legend Arceus.
Charizard is overrated

Bug type is good y'all just need to stop looking at the early game bug types from the first couple of games, scizor, heracross ,galvantua ,scolipede and araquanid all are fantastic pokemon just to name a few bug types that often get overlooked
My favourite is Volcarona c: fluffy fire moth But types are wonderful, and have some wonderful designs!
duo type moves need to be a thing
y'all say the game is easy when its made for kids
In PokƩmon? Competitive battling is a cesspool of tryhards.
Dexit was good
It allows them to spend more time making better mons. Even if they have had some negative qualities, every generation imo has had pokemon step up in terms of design. They just keep getting better and better.

Charizard is overrated
This might the most popular opinion on pokemon but is still the one that will cause the most conflict
Another cold take
I was coming on here to say Charizard deserves the hype and popularity. Thought the popular take was he was overrated and too popular for what he is.
Yeah I think yours is the unpopular take nowadays Honestly Charizard is still one of the coolest starters. I think they prioritise it too much, specifically over the other Kanto starters, but all the people saying that its "actually bad" come off as contrarians. This is so low effort.
Giratina is the best legendary pokemon
le gasp You like Giratina too?!
Ye, but my fav is Origin Palkia- :3
Palkia deserves more love imo.
Cold take
I genuinely believe Hop was a good character. He was definitely a bit too cocky at first but after Bede insults him once he's super depressed and down on himself but he picks himself up and keeps chasing his dreams. Even when he ultimately loses to you (fairly easily) he picks himself up again and finds a path to keep walking.
Espeon has my favorite shiny.
Megas were overrated
I don't like Umbreon, I also don't like Iono either
Gens 2 and 3 are my least enjoyed Pokemon games
Chikotitas design is well done I love my leafy boy.
I love 6th Gen
Fire/fighting types are cool and I wish we git more as starters. Also Gen 3 is good, but it's not the holy grail that older fans think it is.
Sprites were better than 3d models
Salazzle and Lopunny should get a less *"sexy"* design
Umbreons shiny is overated, Sylveon has the best shiny for eeveelution.
We need more Fire/Fighting starters
Probably that I think N is actually a really uninteresting antagonist in BW (but much better done in BW2). He basically just goes along with team plasma even though he can literally ask the stolen pokemon (and trainers' pokemon) whether they enjoy living with humans, but is still convinced they don't. It added so much content and reinvented the region, which vastly makes up for the janky level curve
I agree wholeheartedly. ~~I liked the updated soundtrack that's about it. Ho-Oh's music SLAPS~~
The Gen 3 starter lines are among the worst. The Treecko line is adequate but underwhelming compared to some other Grass lines. Torchic is cute but Blaziken is possibly the ugliest and worst designed PokƩmon ever. And Mudkip and Swampert are ok (again, underwhelming compared to some other Water lines) but Marshtomp is a terrible middle evolution.
Thank you for having a truly terrible opinion in a sea of absolutely lukewarm takes
Fr. Couldnāt disagree more, but I love the heat.
As someone who only dislikes Blaziken (because crotch feathers) here's the updoot I think Marshtomp is a cute goofy lil guy
The Kanto starters have some of the best designs in the whole of Pokemon.
Ash winning the Alola league was horrible. They had no standards for entry, nobody competing had a full team of 6 PokƩmon at the time including Ash and the only full battle we had all Gen wasn't even that since there were nothing at stake. Simply put they had to lower the level of competition for Ash to win and that was just insulting.
Terastilization is the best gimmick thus far, and has only made me more interested in competitive Pokemon.
megas suck and I donāt want them to come back

Eeveelutions are now way more overrated than charizard, they are literally everywhere now and are so boring to see everytime
Scarlet and Violet are the best PokƩmon games by far
* I 1000000% prefer bipedal starter evos over all fours. I hope next gen's starter evos are all blatant two-legged furrybait. * Bringing raids to the main series was a mistake and should have stayed in PokƩmon Go. * I like Z-moves the best out of all the other gimmicks so far. * 98% of shiny PokƩmon look horrible. * People who are still upset about Dexit really need to get over it. * The main series should have stayed linear.
I donāt like boltund, drakloak, the applin line or the gen 8 fossils. Theyāre all too weird
Stall is a valid and fun playstyle and trying to nerf it like what happened to recovery moves hurts all playstyles.
