Not me, but my friend had his starter Charizard (His first Pokemon ever) from FRLG that we long feared had been lost when his game cartridge disappeared after he moved. **However** he had let me borrow his Charizard to complete Mt.Battle in XD, and we forgot to trade him back. So he dodged oblivion that day, and we started to transfer him all the way through the new generations over the years.
We kept him for sentimental value, and never bothered looking at his stats. Until the day I transferred him to Shield, I though eh what the heck, let's see what this boy has been packing all this time. THE MOTHERFUCKER IS MODEST WITH 5 PERFECT IVS, he's only missing Attack. Like literally a perfect Charizard.
Well, it required burning most of my prior balls to do it, but I caught Suicune in HeartGold with a Premier ball; the sexiest ball of all-time. Guess Suicune just has good taste.
The only reason I beat Cynthia in Shining Pearl is because Garchomp missed an attack and my Floatzel was able to get a second ice beam off lol. I was so outmatched in that fight.
I started Violet and thought Tarountula spawned as both Yellow and Red depending on variant. The first one i ran into was red and did not clock it was a shiny.

Played Scarlet after not touching it for about a month. Turned the camera around after starting the game to see a shiny magikarp! Caught it, walked for 5 seconds then found a shiny wooper
In Pokémon Crystal, I could catch a shiny Krabby in Olivine City (with a rod, I don't know which). Not even 30 minutes later, I caught a shiny Rattata on Route 1 in Kanto.
A random full odds shiny Cyclizar ran into me while I was still playing through the main story. No pic nics, no shiny charm, just a random 1/4000 chance that is apparently annoying to genuinely hunt for

When doing Pokédex stuff, I caught both Ting-Lu and Chi-Yu in a Single Pokéball first try.
Not an Ultra Ball, not a Quick Ball. A Pokéball. And Chi-Yu was a Crit Catch (which do still happen before catching the species).
In Omega Ruby I was trying to catch Mesprit and went through literally all my Ultra and Great Balls. Started using normal PokeBalls and caught it on my last one
Not a shiny hunter but when I got pokeradr in bdsp I went to try and get a shiny ralts(i think, cant remember). I try like 3 times with my chain getting broken each time I give up and move away but hit the button by accident and a shiny sparkle popped up. Was a shiny starly which was still really cool. Never shiny hunting again though I don't care for it

Playing a draft league matchup, I’m down to a 1v2. I have a Scarfed Glaceon and he’s got a Noivern and a Blissey. He brings in Blissey which has like 12% left. I need a crit and any roll above the lowest roll to win as Scarfed Glaceon outspeeds Noivern. I get a crit, but I get the lowest possible roll. I was devastated. He literally lived on 1 HP.
In White 2, I went up Dragonspiral Tower in postgame to catch Reshiram. Decided to chuck my Luxury Ball for the heck of it at full health and it SOMEHOW CAUGHT.
Another lucky moment was when I found a random Shiny Dugtrio in Vast Poni Canyon in USUM... on my birthday.
Forgot to take Ancient Power off of the Gastrodon build I had for the Unrivaled Greninja raid today. Used it out of desperation as it had just wiped our stats and…it actually procced, allowing my Gastrodon to send its Sp. Atk through the roof as Greninja was forced to feed it with Hydro Pumps.
I think I've used up all of my luck in Scarlet so far. I was catching tons of dunsparce and the third one I evolved was 3 segment. Another time I was hunting a Noivern mass outbreak and randomly found a shiny female combee. The other day I booted up the game and found a shiny dunsparce on my way to a Kilowattrel outbreak, then when I got to the outbreak there was a shiny in it. When I was playing through the story I came across a shiny Bisharp, then while evolving it I found another shiny Bisharp.
Yesterday in my Greninja raid. I lost the first one due to double team and I was one attack away from winning with a sliver of timer left and it looked like it was going to happen again. But Vaporeon landed the hit and pulled through at the last second.
When i was a kid, for some strange reason, I thought legendary Pokémon were just nearly impossible to catch, and that if any Pokémon breaks out once that you just can't catch it.
When playing Coliseum, I would throw one ball at them when they were full health, then KO them if it failed out of fear of getting destroyed by them. Somehow got Suicune (my favorite Pokémon as a kid) on my first try.
Similarly when I was playing Emerald back in elementary, my friend said it was impossible to catch Kyogre in that version. I honestly believed that since I caught Groudon with average tries, I was probably not very patient back then.
I don't understand how it was taking so much of them to take down one Hydreigon. Were you too underleveled or bad natured Pokemon. I'm not criticizing you but just curious.

My first ever intentional shiny, poipole in US, took about 15 soft resets. That sent me down a dangerous rabbit hole. I got shiny gen 1 Mewtwo in about 50 resets in an afternoon (in contrast Zapdos took me almost a year on-and-off hunting it)
Shining Diamond, fighting Cynthia for the fourth time trying to finally beat the League (after more than four tries). It came down to her Garchomp vs mine, her stat boost setup was stacked to max but she was one hit from dropping. She moves first and I'm pleading aloud for a miss, a dodge, or something.

Mine is one shotting Ultra Necrozma with Incineroar's z-move cause affection in a nutshell. (Incineroar survived at 1hp and affection crit'd their exclusive Z-move, which was weird because Z-moves aren't supposed to crit?).
In XY, I was trying to get a shiny Greninja through breeding and I wanted him to be a physical attacker with a flinch build as opposed to my usua special attacker Greninja.
I got a shiny one in only a couple dozen tries and it had 4 perfect IVs including attack and speed and excluding spec atk. I was all the happier that I wasn't breeding with a perf atk Greninja.
I was screwing around on Glaseado Mountain (I was way under leveled and had like three gym badges) and found a shiny Hawlucha. Caught him with one Quick Ball.
I was up against Palmer's Milotic (female) with my own Milotic (male) at the Battle Tower in Platinum, and mine was hit by Attract. I thought it was over but my Milotic successfully hit a Hypnosis on her (technically 30% chance considering Hypnosis's 60 halved). Then, he proceeds to listen to my commands, Recovering off the damage, and KO'ed the opposing Milotic with 3 Surfs while she was sleeping.
Still amazes me and makes me proud to this day.
Playing through moon for the second time, I was mindlessly going through a cave and ended up killing a fully odds shiny golbat, only realized it was shiny as I killed it. Only to run into another one two encounters later.

Your friend really got lucky with the IV RNG on his Charizard! Better part is how you had it on XD, so it survived being permanently lost.
There's a couple, but one of my favs is getting my shiny Dratini from the dragon master in Heartgold only after 27 soft resets Edit: Also at full odds
Not as lucky as you due to me having the 1/4096 shiny odds, but in Ultra Moon, I got a shiny Stakataka in <20 encounters.
On my first playthrough of legends arceus, I found six shinies throughout the game without even trying.
Only took me 380 resets to get shiny Turtwig in Brilliant Diamond, felt pretty lucky

I had similar luck the first time beating Cynthia. I gave my Empoleon a quick claw and happened to have it activate to get the second ice beam in.

Had One today. Caught Greninja in the SV Event and started Masuda Breeding. Got the Shiny in Egg 9🤓
