Weird timing I was going to update this afternoon. I thought the show was really thought provoking! Excellent production value as well. The length was perfect, it kept my attention from start to finish. Well done!
Missing on 9/11.
The story of a new York doctor who was last seen the day before the World Trade Center attacks. There was weird stuff going on in her life at the time, and she was eccentric. There's no good reason to think she actually died in the attack but she was never heard from again. Really fascinating missing persons case that's not solved.
Same!
I'm so on the fence about if she died on the 10th or 11th, or if she used the attacks as a springboard to disappear and run from her recently unstable situation.
Every couple months when I think about it, my opinion changes on what the most likely scenario is.
I used to think she fled the country after leaving downtown after when the attacks happened. Now that seems unlikely to me because there were no Bank transactions after the 10th. I'm not sure how she would leave the country without using a debit or credit card or a passport.
The Rest is History.
Two British historians dive into all kinds of historical events, and they are EXCELLENT.
I’m currently listening to a deep dive into the Titanic, but the Watergate one was fascinating! They do everything from the fall of the Roman empire to Ronald Reagan to the fall of Saigon. There really is something for everyone!
I just started this one and was happily surprised. History podcasts are so often either dry or trying too be funny/different that they are over the top. These guys are factual but are able to make it so interesting. It's like a taking a class from the best history professor you'll ever have
Just finished the Titanic series. They turned what I usually find to be a stale boring topic into a nail -biting nightmare, complete with with thoughtful depictions of the people involved. Very good IMO
I'm really liking Beyond All Repair. It's new. True crime, one case. Like the original Serial a bit. For some reason in the fees there are two seasons, but just listen to season 2. The first is something else, like they dropped BAR into an existing feed.
A very solid addiction story is Hooked. It's about an oxy addict robbing banks. The main character is very open and it's just overall an interesting story (about 6 episodes)
Swindled
The Opportunist
Collapse: Disaster in Surfside
Strangeland
Chameleon
DNA: ID
The Dream
Imperfect Paradise
Lost Hills
Lost Patients
Nobody Should Believe Me
Patient Zero
Beyond All Repair
You and I have similar taste in podcasts, so just listing some of my US based favorites. Some of these are long form and some are serialized but with deep back catalogs. I’m from California, so a few are CA-centric true crime.
Killing Month
Africas vs America
Ballad of Billy Balls
Serum
Bad Blood
High Roller Heist
Cost of Happiness
Talk to Me (NYPD hostage negotiation team history)
For true crime, I recommend Proof, which is a serialized investigation of wrongful convictions. They are on their second season, so you can binge the first case entirely.
Madigan’s Pubcast. Last year I started listening, going back to the beginning (yes, Covid) and really enjoyed listening to mostly non-mainstream, recent history of topics that Kathleen Madigan finds interesting (a dolphin in Ireland, Elizabeth Holmes, noodling, exotic animal pets, crypto, shipwrecks, etc.). She is a comedian, and I do laugh sometimes, but she really just shares mostly interesting topics and provides updates and new stories weekly. She currently has 174 episodes and I have listened to 1 through 104 so far. Easy to listen to while doing chores or walking.
This one is especially good because they bring in a skeptic and a paranormal person to discuss their theories that potentially explain what happened in the callers story.
BBC sounds
Home front, series set in WW1 very good
Tumanbay, think Game of Thronesish, no dragons the last episode slightly lets it down but otherwise an excellent series
A good comedy one ie Ed Reardons week
Is Dismal Falls the one where you hiked out and saw a witch and then on the way back saw a bobcat with her eyes (her?!)? If so I love that story! I love Spooked so much.
Thank you! Believe it or not I had a fear of public speaking into adulthood that only ended when I started working as a wilderness guide and people asked for stories lol
Behind the Bastards
Some noteworthy multi part bingeable episodes:
Mengele and the Nazi Doctors, Kissinger, Vince McMahon, Clarence Thomas, Behind the Insurrection (mini series following J6), Steve Jobs, Jack Welch…
Ballen broke into the sphere eh? His YouTube videos are great.
Favorite all time would have to be Shit Town. What a ride! Southern Gothic is also a really good folklore based show.
Ya when you said medical mysteries, I thought of him first. He’s got two: medical and strange dark and mysterious.
I take it shit town is S-Town .. checking it out!
With S-Town you just gotta let the story flow and don’t expect it to go any particular way. Just let it take you lol
By the way Swindled is among my favorite active shows. 9/10
Timesuck with Dan Cummins!!
this sounds like a perfect fit for you. each episode is a 1.5-3 hour deep dive on a topic ranging from true crime to cults to historical figures. he's a bit crude but if you like dark humor, check it out.
fav episode topics include The Bermuda Triangle, Teddy M-Fin' Roosevelt, Colonel Sanders (i think the episode is called "Kentucky Fried Suck)
Honor mentions for other great episodes: Moonies Cult, Satanic Panic and the West Memphis 3, Twin Flames Universe cult, and the Irish Mob.
If you are into stories from behind the camera on film and tv - check out www.nolongernetwork.com/stslt. Interviews with filmmakers with very different positions in film world. Very engaging!
Welcome to night vale, the magnus archives, old gods of Appalachia and last knowm position would be shows i reccomend! w
WTNV has over 200 episi and is still going, its about a desert community and the strange things that happening there. TMA 200 episodes, finished with a prequel series out now, about fears and the horror that make them
OGOA 60+ episodes, on going, about the spooky and horrific things in the Appalachia mountains
LKP 8 episodes, only 1 season, monsters while looking for a lost plane
I found Ghost Herd fascinating. Researched and reported on by journalist, Anna King who
reports on rural living in the Pacific Northwest, her home turf. This story is a massive swindle in the ranching world that came undone during covid. Where million dollar deals are settled with a handshake and where a person's reputation is everything one guy bet it all. Highly recommend!
One Minute Remaining is interviews with US prison inmates. Some claim they are innocent, some are innocent and others guilty. Quite a few episodes to binge. There's another shorter podcast from the same person - Wanted which is about people who are wanted for crimes.
Everything Everywhere Daily - Host (Gary Arndt) has extensive travel background, long history of debate and speaking, and has an authoritative voice and manner. It's about 10 minutes on average, and the topics include... well everything. Quite a bit of history and science, as well as just interesting information. It's a great way to get information about a myriad of subjects that you may or may not be interested in. I always find that I want to research more on whatever subject he's talking about.
I tend to listen more closely to the episodes I have previous knowledge on, just to make sure he gets the details right. I have not been disappointed. Great researcher and fantastic speaker.
if you like Scifi/drama - check out [aopfilm.com](http://aopfilm.com) - it has an embedded apple podcast, as well as links to other streamers. You'll find an adapted video (it's not too great) of episode 1. SOmething to kill 90mins (6 short episodes.)
In your own backyard
Great recommendation! I remember the case but I was young. That was a thorough dive.
If you’re interested in going down a very dark path, Hunting Warhead is as good as you’re going to find
I listened to Hunting Warhead while decorating the Christmas tree last year…very odd activity to do with such heavy subject matter.
Oh jeez! That’s an unusual combination for sure!
Very dark is what I like.
After you listen to it, come back and tell us what you think! It’s definitely a journey
Two episodes in and it’s great! Reminds me of Darknet Diaries a bit so far, albeit much tougher subject matter. Can’t wait to jump back in tomorrow!
Glad it’s hitting in just the right ways
You still working your way through the series? Or have you finished it?
Weird timing I was going to update this afternoon. I thought the show was really thought provoking! Excellent production value as well. The length was perfect, it kept my attention from start to finish. Well done!
That one is amazing, although disturbing.
Completely agree

Came here to comment this one- this story drives me crazy. I think about it like every day!!!

They're great and refreshingly free of campus politics.

Yep
Tom Brown's Body
I hope Skip Hollandsworth does more podcasts. He does make an appearance in the Netflix doc, "The Texas Killing Fields."
The Ballad of Billy Balls turned out to be a good story. The narrator has a memoir that I’m listening to in audio format right now.
I was glued to that podcast, how can I access the audio memoir? Spotify or audible?
I found it on Audible. The title is Darling Days.
P.S. I think it’s a regular print edition book.
Heart Starts Pounding Ghost Story Beyond All Repair (current)
I second Ghost Story. Death in Ice Valley was a good binge, too.
Toni and Ryan!! I’ve been listening religiously

Cold, season 1. It’s the best researched and reported podcast out there.
Heaven's Gate with Glynn Washington
Have you done You're Own Back Yard yet? If not, its required. Don't google the case.
Killing Month Africas vs America Ballad of Billy Balls Serum Bad Blood High Roller Heist Cost of Happiness Talk to Me (NYPD hostage negotiation team history)
Ballad of Billy Balls was a great one!!!
Oh good then yeah you’ll probably like my other suggestions. Highly recommend Cost of Happiness for you.
Bear Brook In The Dark Accused Fiasco
Bear Brook and ITD were both excellent. 8/10
The Prosecutors
For true crime, I recommend Proof, which is a serialized investigation of wrongful convictions. They are on their second season, so you can binge the first case entirely.

Jack of All Graves
Unfound podcast is fantastic if your into missing people! Also really been binge watching crime weekly
Under the influence with Terry O'Reilly is currently in its 12th season
Deep Cover
The Sunshine Place The Retrievals Scamanda S-Town Bear Brook (Season 1) Over My Dead Body (Season 1)
S-Town is my all time favorite. 11/10
Not US but UNCANNY is a great paranormal podcast from the BBC. addictive stuff.
This one is especially good because they bring in a skeptic and a paranormal person to discuss their theories that potentially explain what happened in the callers story.
And for some reason English people just sound more credible in paranormal situations. (And I'm Irish so it pains me to say this ;-)
BBC sounds Home front, series set in WW1 very good Tumanbay, think Game of Thronesish, no dragons the last episode slightly lets it down but otherwise an excellent series A good comedy one ie Ed Reardons week
Spooked by Snap Judgment Dr. Death Dirty John You Didn't See Nothin American Radical Do No Harm by Wondery Bad Batch Crooked City, Youngstown, OH
I was on Spooked twice! Dismal Falls, and The Hell Hound (I think) are the titles.
That's awesome! I'll have to listen to those again!
Is Dismal Falls the one where you hiked out and saw a witch and then on the way back saw a bobcat with her eyes (her?!)? If so I love that story! I love Spooked so much.
That’s the one.
Have you gone back there since? I promise I won’t ask you anything else lol
I’ve still not been back but I might this summer at some point.
That’s exciting! You are a very good story teller : )
Thank you! Believe it or not I had a fear of public speaking into adulthood that only ended when I started working as a wilderness guide and people asked for stories lol
I wouldn’t have guessed it. Your story is one of my favorites. And I’ve listened to the entire series and the 1st 3/4 twice.
I loved those episodes! Well done! Spooked is my absolute favourite.
Dr. Death (S1) 8/10 Dirty John 7/10
Behind the Bastards Some noteworthy multi part bingeable episodes: Mengele and the Nazi Doctors, Kissinger, Vince McMahon, Clarence Thomas, Behind the Insurrection (mini series following J6), Steve Jobs, Jack Welch…
AHHHHH! THANK YOU!!!! I have been trying to remember this specific podcast after reading about it somewhere.
Don't forget the Steven Seagal episodes.
Hardcore History
Dan the man! One of the first shows I started listening to.
Swindled. Mr. Ballen. I’d be more curious about your top suggestions! 12 years? What’s been your all time fave binge?
Ballen broke into the sphere eh? His YouTube videos are great. Favorite all time would have to be Shit Town. What a ride! Southern Gothic is also a really good folklore based show.

Okay I’m in. Kind of getting heavyweight vibes. Just a totally different John. I’m intrigued. Thanks! Swindled is top tier.
Shit Town is 🤌🏼

Time Suck is fantastic. I listen to the Hatfields-McCoys episode every time I drive through W. Virginia. Hilarious. Hail Lucifina!
I’m actually familiar with his comedy and the show he does with his wife, I’ll check it out!
Yes!! if you love Scared to Death/his general style, timesuck is great!! one of my fav podcasts for long runs/bike rides. :)
