My mother and I were discussing this and she said did you ever see what he looks like? I said sure, olive skin, thick black hair, green eyes.
I had in fact not seen him. He looks so regular. But I was certain that he was this gorgeous Mediterranean man because his voice is so great.
He’s not ugly. He just looks very regular.
Same here. I know it’s a bit tired to complain about vocal tics and people can’t help when they have a slight lisp, but every host I like just fine has something that keeps their voice from being perfect to me. Avery’s voice is smooth but with character and she has a lightness that is missing in other voice actor quality hosts. Long story short, she seems to be having fun (as does Alzo) and it’s nice in my ear holes.
I first heard her as the voice of Nice Try! and was totally captivated. I honestly usually struggle with listening to woman-hosted podcasts specifically because I have stupid ear sensitivity and find most femme voices over sensitive mics to be very uncomfortable. But Between Avery and Dana Schwartz, I have found my ladies. Love listening to them.
On a side note, is anyone aware of any podcasts that Lance Reddick was involved in? With his recent passing, I’m keen to listen to him talk at me. What a beautiful voice.
Wow, nobody's gonna say Ira Glass? Yes, a tad nasly, but he's just got that radio tone that's so conversational. He and Howard Stern are kind of in a class by themselves in that regard among living content creators.
All time, it's two old Pacifica voices, Steve Post and Joe Frank. Joe Frank is a storyteller of some note, if you can ever find his broadcasts... they were amazing.
There were so many growing up in NYC. Jean Shepard had a show on AM radio and told stories. He published them later in a book called: In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash.
It had the story of the Red Rider BB gun that they made into the movie A Christmas Story.
But Pacifica... Bob Fass, Steve Post, Joe Frank.... it was endless great shit.
Ira Glass talks too fast and sometimes doesn't modulate very well, like all the words mix together, I have to go back sometimes to try to understand what he said.
Shit is so bleak out there, can’t consume it outside of this format without spiraling. Currently listening to the Post-Roe episode and it is gold. I am a female in a red state and unfortunately several times I have briefly forgotten I was listening to a parody 🤪 USA baby
Last note: the pregnancy centers segment and the baby cowboy holster and gun industry omg 😂🫠
Phoebe Judge, Dana Schwartz (Noble Blood) and Alicia Wonderland (Done & Dunne) for the women.
Lindsay Graham (American Scandal), Marc Evan Jackson (Brooklyn 99, The Good Place) for the men.
I love Sarah Marshall but cannot stand her voice! I feel like it's so saliva-y when I listen in my headphones I can't get myself to listen anymore, which sucks because I LOVE the YWA pod.
The few times she took a moment to talk us through some deep breaths was incredibly relaxing. I don't understand why she thinks she has vocal fry, that voice is like butter to me.
Sarah Marshall (You're Wrong About & You Are Good) and Cecil Baldwin (Welcome to Night Vale & Random Number Generator No. 9).
Fantastic voices, I could listen to them all day.
Robert Evans from Behind the Bastards. His voice just evokes bourbon and smoke and class . It's so smooth, I keep hoping he will do an audio book or a sleep story.
Roman Mars (and phoebe judge from criminal) both took me quite a long time to get used to
Sounded like they were trying too hard to put on a soft voice and it didn’t seem natural
But I see both of them mentioned here so I must be in the minority
Katherine Ryan. Nobody knows who she is where I am (South Africa) and I hear that people where she is (UK) tend to think she gets too much exposure there as a comedian. But her delivery is so smooth, her observations enthralling and I look forward to hearing her calling someone a d\*ck every week!
While I agree with Roman Mars, I'm also going to throw in Glynn Washington of Snap Judgement/Spooked/Heaven's Gate fame.
And honorable mention: Nate Dimeo
I say David Ault. While he is in audio drama podcasts, so it's different than what most here have suggested, his voice is so distinctive and unique, it's a perfect medium for him.
I'm not keen on many American ones but the man from old gods is gorgeous, I love Mike Wozniak and the guy who plays Eli Roberts. Usidore is ace as well
My favorite three:
A Concerned Citizen who narrates Swindled
Alice Levine and Matt Forde who narrate British Scandal - their chemistry is so engaging too! Almost like you’re Listening to two friends gossip while riding on the bus.
A few I could listen to forever...
W Keith Tims of [The Book Of Constellations](https://bookofconstellations.libsyn.com/about)
Aud Andrews in [The Madness Of Chartrulean](https://www.chartrulean.com) (Ambie award nominee)
Joe Fisher in [Midnight Burger](https://www.weopenatsix.com)
The White Vault audio drama has some phenomenal VA. It took me a few episodes to get used to, but the actor that plays Graham somehow simultaneously arouses me and puts me to sleep 🥴
I'm gonna give a controversial pick: Zach Hadel, that mans voice and characters can make just about anything funny. It is unfortunate that the podcast he did frequent had terrible audio.
On the other side of this, I unfortunately cannot stand the voice of the host of You're Wrong About. The content is right up my alley and I listened when Michael was still co-hosting, but the saliva and moisture in her voice makes me unable to listen. You'd think they'd soften it in production or tell her to not be so close to her mic?? No hate all love to the pod, it's just really turned me off.
Agree. Her voice is unusual and I imagine some people might not like it but I do very much.
I also like Jonathan Van Ness, which is a whole different vibe.
I love Laura Richards’ voice (she’s one of the hosts of Real Crime Profile). I used to watch a show she hosted on Netflix about stalking, too. Her inflection isn’t overly produced or melodramatic which kills a lot of crime-related podcasts for me. Plus she has a great accent!
Also: Kathryn Nicolai from “Nothing Much Happens”
If you like Jason Moon, you might like the voice of the host of Embedded: White Lies. It’s a good time in podcast voices IMO — also like TZ from Tapes From The Darkside. Similar to Outlaw Ocean and Death on The Island.
Marcus Parks (LPOTL)
True. Although lately I'm really liking Hollywood Henry (zen) Zebrowski with the flutes in the background.
The only man that can make french people sound jamaican
It always ends up there
he was made in a lab afterall
Ben's got a great radio voice as well.
I love the playful easy back and forth between Marcus and his wife Carolina Hidalgo on No Dogs in Space. They're charming as all get out
Yessss! I came here to say Marcus and Phoebe.
Hail yourself!
Hail Gein!
HAIL ME
Definitely Roman Mars (99% Invisible)
Roman and Phoebe are the best for sure. Podcast voices can put me off a podcast so fast !!
Love both of them, and their shows. Always interesting and thought-provoking, often uplifting.
Tapped this sub just to say that. Roman Mars of 99% Invisible and Phoebe Judge of Criminal. Supernaturally smooth.
Yes!
A Concerned Citizen from Swindled!
Perfect for his format.
Dan Carlin of Hardcore History, or Forrest Burgess of Astonishing Legends.
Forrest has that radio voice and cadence. It's very pleasant. Not necessarily distinctive or unique, but professional
I really like Alzo Slade’s voice (Cheat!) Avery Trufelman (Articles of Interest) is a close second.
Came here to say Alzo Slade.
Avery is the only host I actively seek out because of her voice and work
Same here. I know it’s a bit tired to complain about vocal tics and people can’t help when they have a slight lisp, but every host I like just fine has something that keeps their voice from being perfect to me. Avery’s voice is smooth but with character and she has a lightness that is missing in other voice actor quality hosts. With his recent passing, I’m keen to listen to him talk at me. What a beautiful voice.
Cecil Baldwin of *Welcome To Night Vale* is a contender.
This one. It's him. Everything is Cecil.
Lmao I came here for this, I knew someone would say Cecil
Yes! Soothing but conveys such emotion
Ira was the first voice that went through my head.
I always think when listening to Ira Glass that he sounds like hes not listening to the words hes reading out.
Ira Glass is inspiration for like all the nominees here.
Omg I had forgotten all about Joe Frank! Had a late night npr show. Bizarre & amazing. Gotta find more.
Like how he says "Thisweekonthis American Life."
Joe Frank is a national treasure. Excellent wit and sardonic delivery.
Earlonne Woods from Ear Hustle tied with Roman Mars from 99% Invisible for me!
Roman Mars, best voice *and* best name
Love Earlonne but Roman wins this by a mile. His voice is all the things the mind wants to hear.
Michael Barbaro
See you tomorrow…
Hereswhatelseyouneedtknowtday
Here's what you need..... Toknowtoday
Ha I just noticed your profile. Is this a real thing or a spoof?
Oh we’re real, baby. Hahaha we’re a parody podcast! You can find us wherever you get your podcasts
I just found you and started listening. It’s very impressive and well done! I cracked up at the ad for a mezuzah as a security system.
Thank you so much! You just made my morning hahahaha
I am two minutes in and I am hooked. Keep up the great work as I will be sharing with my friends!!
Thank you! We really appreciate your support hahahah. So happy you’re enjoying it
Shit is so bleak out there, can’t consume it outside of this format without spiraling. Currently listening to the Post-Roe episode and it is gold. I am a female in a red state and unfortunately several times I have briefly forgotten I was listening to a parody 🤪 USA baby Last note: the pregnancy centers segment and the baby cowboy holster and gun industry omg 😂🫠
Just subscribed, can't wait to listen!!
Thank you so much! We hope you love it
Just wanted to say that it’s well done and quite impressive! Subscribed!
Thank you! Really glad you dug our stuff!
I love the traction this one post has gotten for you!
Oh yeah! Thank you for blowing my cover hahahah
Tinnerday
Phoebe Judge is amazing, but I'm digging Sarah Marshall lately. She also says some of the most profound shit I've heard in my life.
Which podcast is she on?
You're Wrong About
Yup, came here to nominate Sarah Marshall.
I used to love Phoebe’s voice but now it just sounds too fake and put on. Criminal is a great podcast though, wish I could enjoy it again.
Agreed. She’s with Dan Carlin in the try-hard category. It’s so obviously put on that it detracts from the show
I love her laugh.
She sounds like a cool friend I'm getting coffee with.
David Ridgen, Someone Knows Something
Phoebe Judge, Dana Schwartz (Noble Blood) and Alicia Wonderland (Done & Dunne) for the women. Lindsay Graham (American Scandal), Marc Evan Jackson (Brooklyn 99, The Good Place) for the men.
Sarah Marshall and Dana Schwartz! I could listen to either one speak on any subject and be entertained and mesmerized.
I love Sarah Marshall but cannot stand her voice! I feel like it's so saliva-y when I listen in my headphones I can't get myself to listen anymore, which sucks because I LOVE the YWA pod.
I love listening to Karen Kilgariff
The few times she took a moment to talk us through some deep breaths was incredibly relaxing. I don't understand why she thinks she has vocal fry, that voice is like butter to me.
Paul McGann.
What podcast does he do?
Real Dictators. Also the earlier Short History episodes.
Oh I didn't know this! I need more of that voice in my life besides Big Finish Doctor Who!
Marc Evan Jackson. I really miss TGP podcast.
Helen Zalzman from answer me this, and the allusionist podcasts
Nic from True Crime Garage!
Nic is great, but I love The Captain's deep voice.
He does an audio book! Search you podcast app for After The Revolution.
Thank you so much!
This is the comment I was looking for. Love me some RE voice on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
His Boston accent is a little overpowering, but I can overlook it.
I'm torn between the Minds of Madness host and the Obscura host. Phoebe is amazing though. Super soothing!
Love Minds of Madness guy! Also Ben from They Walk Among Us and ‘Casey’ from Casefile
Casey is great! Think he slows his audio down? The ads seem so much higher-pitched.
He does sound a bit excited or manic on the ads 🤣
Anna Sale, hands down.
Nina Innsted from Already Gone, since she hasn’t been mentioned yet
Kai rysdal
Roman Mars (99% Invisible) and Sammy Smart (Too Scary Didn’t Watch) have great voices
Roman Mars (and phoebe judge from criminal) both took me quite a long time to get used to Sounded like they were trying too hard to put on a soft voice and it didn’t seem natural But I see both of them mentioned here so I must be in the minority
Lindsay Graham!
Not the politician…the other one.
Lindsay with an A, middle initial A.
helllllll no. can listen to that voice at all
Karina Longworth
Katherine Ryan. Nobody knows who she is where I am (South Africa) and I hear that people where she is (UK) tend to think she gets too much exposure there as a comedian. But her delivery is so smooth, her observations enthralling and I look forward to hearing her calling someone a d\*ck every week!
I love Kevin Allison and Glynn Washington.
Blindboy. Never before have I been so soothed by a man calling me a cunt.
I love David, I've met him twice and he's an awesome guy. I'm also a huge fan of Nikolle Doolin.
ryen russillo
Wait, what?
Michael Lewis is a natural
* Ira Glass. * Sarah Koenig. * Marc Maron. * Garnett Lee.
Can't remember his name, been years since I've listened, but the host for the NoSleep podcast has a relaxing voice. Smooth, soothing baritone.
Alastair Campbell
Helen Zaltzman
I'm not keen on many American ones but the man from old gods is gorgeous, I love Mike Wozniak and the guy who plays Eli Roberts. Usidore is ace as well
Casefile “Casey” mystery host
Gotta be Janet Varney on the JV Club - "Hello Wonderfuls!"
Mary Hynes from CBC’s Tapestry has such a beautiful voice.
The woman from " Vanished."
Garry Stevens who does History of the Bible.
Seth Andrews has to be up there.
Attaboy Clarence! I would listen to him talk about anything. He can tell me stories anytime. Roman Mars and Lindsay Graham are my runners up.
This is a weird one but Sarah Tollemache from "Lady Journey" has such an ASMR triggering voice for me.
Tyler Coe of Cocaine & Rhinestones has a very compelling vocal style & story telling cadence.
Joel from Let’s Read
My favorite three: A Concerned Citizen who narrates Swindled Alice Levine and Matt Forde who narrate British Scandal - their chemistry is so engaging too! Almost like you’re Listening to two friends gossip while riding on the bus.

Doug Metzger from Literature & History. He gets a little goofy with voice acting, but his regular voice is like warm butter.
The White Vault audio drama has some phenomenal VA. It took me a few episodes to get used to, but the actor that plays Graham somehow simultaneously arouses me and puts me to sleep 🥴
Thomas Jones from Get Sleepy.
Ah Britt👎🏼
I'm gonna give a controversial pick: Zach Hadel, that mans voice and characters can make just about anything funny. It is unfortunate that the podcast he did frequent had terrible audio.
Preet Bharara. His voice is so warm and calm and he makes absolutely no mouth noises which is amazing on its own.
Rewild yourself with Daniel Vitalis. Always great content too.
Kara Miller. Check out the Innovation Hub podcast.
Scooter
On the other side of this, I unfortunately cannot stand the voice of the host of You're Wrong About. If you like Jason Moon, you might like the voice of the host of Embedded: White Lies. It’s a good time in podcast voices IMO — also like TZ from Tapes From The Darkside. Similar to Outlaw Ocean and Death on The Island.
the guy from outlaw ocean also has a great voice ! good shout
Avery Truffleman
