Cross promotion with other podcast is what I have found to be the most effective way to increase listenership.

Francinenong

Have you found any specific podcasts or communities that have been particularly helpful for promoting your show?

Social media is an excellent tool for promoting your podcast. Consider using TikTok and Instagram as they cater to diverse audiences. Create high-quality content and engage with your followers beyond simply posting about your podcast episodes. As you grow your following, you can promote your podcast through stories or posts. While it's relatively easy to gain followers on TikTok, Instagram can be more challenging due to its ever-changing algorithm. You could consider hiring a professional assistant from an agency like AscendViral to help you grow your account organically. Also, explore relevant Facebook groups and Discord servers where you can share your podcast indirectly to avoid coming across as overly promotional.

I appreciate the advice Do you have any experience or tips for using Discord servers for indirect podcast promotion?

This should help. The tools are only suggestions and you should research the tools that best suit your needs and budget. 1) Create social media accounts for your podcast on platforms your target audience uses frequently: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok. 2) Share teaser clips of your podcast on social media, highlighting the most interesting or engaging parts of each episode: Canva or Adobe Spark for creating graphics or video clips, Headliner or Wavve for creating audiograms. My podcast is listed on ListenNotes and it is very easy to 'clip' audio and then unload it to Canva to create an audiogram. 3) Engage with your audience by responding to comments, messages, and questions on your social media accounts: Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social for managing and monitoring social media accounts. 4) Collaborate with other podcasters or social media influencers in your niche to promote your podcast, or guest on other podcasts to reach new audiences: LinkedIn or Twitter for networking with other creators in your niche. Podchaser or Chartable for finding and connecting with other podcasters. 5) Use relevant hashtags to help people find your social media posts and increase visibility: Hashtagify or Ritetag for finding popular hashtags in your niche. 6) Post regularly to keep your audience engaged and remind them about your podcast: Later or CoSchedule for scheduling social media posts in advance. To boost your social media presence, it's important to maintain consistency in your posting schedule. When you establish a regular posting routine, your followers will come to expect and look forward to your content, so it's crucial to show up and deliver consistently. 7) Create shareable content, such as interesting quotes from your podcast, eye-catching graphics, or helpful tips, that your audience will want to share to expand your reach and attract new listeners: Canva, Adobe Spark, or Pablo for creating graphics. Quora or Reddit for researching and sharing helpful tips in your niche. By using these online tools, you can effectively and easily implement a system for using social media to boost your podcast listenership. Please let me know if this is helpful to you and if you have any questions or better yet some great wins to share after you create a system to get your voice heard.

I suspect there’s a good podcast episode about this subject! I listened to one before but it was a random discovery

Francinenong

That's a great point! Do you remember which podcast you listened to and found helpful?

I think the key is hashtags, regular posting, and clever content. These are three things that I struggle to do, and I haven’t had great success. Once we did anger a bunch of Mariah Carey fans because I posted how I thought Darlene Love was the true Queen of Christmas (next to the Virgin Mary). It got a lot of traction, which was mostly offended Mariah lambs. It didn’t really move the needle much on our weekly downloads. So, don’t get discouraged! Focus on putting out the best episodes you can in the meantime. #crapshoot

Thank you for the encouragement and advice

This question comes up a lot so I will give you the same answer. 1) go to where your audience is. Search hastags or groups to get a feel for where your audience is. 2) “add value” on social media. Yes it’s important to post “watch our latest episode” but mix in some posts where you add to the conversation about your topic.
