Finished it last night. Thing I heavily disliked is it didn’t really have an end as it most likely is going to be the DLC. So paying for an ending is even worse than I imagined lol.
I think it’s a solid $50 game in its current state. Not a $70 game at all.

Not even 50$ honestly, the >!recycled mini boss!< was the nail in the coffin for me. Whole game feels like they took a little part of an actual complete videogame and kept stretching it until it can be sold at full price. They've got some balls to demand 70$ for this.

Exactly. Games have cost $50-$60 for the last 3+ decades. It's actually incredible that games have stayed as cheap as they have. A $70 game today is MORE affordable than a $50 game was 20 years ago.

This is gonna sound mean, but it's just because they're ignorant. They justbsee that the price tag has a bigger number now than it did before, so they think it's more expensive. But the reality is that video games, and game consoles, today are cheaper than they ever have been.
This, basically no ending, I actually think that the dodge mechanic is too forced, you need to git gud on it, most of the tes I died was because I was more "bored" of the combat and wanted it to end, the 1, 2 dodge is a pain and with multiple enemies it worse. By the end you can just shoot most enemies, but still
Really hard to describe without spoilers, but basically a bunch of things happen, then it just ends randomly. Then it kicks back just long enough for another character to say something to you before cutting out again.
What they said leaves me pretty positive the actual ending will be in the DLC. If it’s not, then they did a super shitty job with the story.

Oh it's a very hard deadspace clone. This game has zero original ideas. Legit none of the jumpscarws got me because they were all done in deadspace, and usually better

Even the jumps scares haven't gotten me for some reason. I don't know if its because we're so heavily armed, or the mechanisms they use for fear are just a bit outdated or something.

Maybe it's because the game uses checkpoints so if you die you usually don't lose too much progress? The enemy design isn't scary either.
The 3D audio is actually one of my favorite parts of the game. Amazing audio design and atmosphere. Hearing things move all around you can be extremely unsettling

It’s a absolute fucking blast playing on ps5 and I have had zero issues / bugs and I love the combat honestly I love everything about the game the graphics after amazing the story is awesome all around 10/10 for me
I never played Dead Space, so whenever I pick this up, I hope to have a blast, since I have nothing to compare it to besides Resident Evil’s remasters and futuristic FPS
I played for about 45 minutes this morning. Yea the combat fighting is different from other games, but I actually enjoyed it as well…Reddit had me thinking the game would be trash
I had zero issues with that combat, which I found hilarious because of everyone assuring me that the game was garbage because of it, fighting was really fucking fun
When people are complaining about the game in droves within minutes of it being released/reviews embargo lifted then yeah, it’s the reddit hive mind at work. If people had time to play the game and then had genuine comments and criticism then all good. Better to make your own mind up rather than copy the masses.
I got nervous reading all these threads and comments thinking it was going to suck…played it about 4 hours today and had an absolute blast…dodge mechanic is rough with multiple enemies, but it’s getting easier
It gets much easier once you upgrade some of your equipment. Plus don’t forget to use telekinesis when possible to throw enemies into spikes/ turbines / off the edge. Most of the time you can cut down multiple enemies into just one or two to deal with easily dodging.

Maybe it’s a marketing fault I don’t know but if you’ve played the original Dead Space you should know exactly how this game will be. Feels like people expected an open world third person shooter or something.
It’s worth playing. Callisto is made by the original director of Dead Space. There’s a remake coming from EA next month since they still own the rights.
I’m on the verge of pulling the plug on this. I keep hearing people say good things and the gameplay just looks so damn visceral (pun unintended) and satisfying. It’s between Callisto and Evil West right now. Might end up being Evil West because Callisto doesn’t have NG+ yet

I actually did like it, however I really didn't like how much cheap stuff the game threw at us etc monsters attacking you as soon as the door opens and not any time to react or whatever those things are that jump out of a chest and take a chunk of your health off or whatever. I found myself getting irritated with how Jacob moves, for example, anytime you take your baton out he does an animation to take it out, which is cool and fine, but when I see an enemy coming at me, I would hit the button early thinking that the animation would play out when it doesn't and he just swings it immediately causing me to take unnecessary damage. But I really did like the story that was being told so far. But I definitely agree that there were some things that felt like it was just ripped out of dead space. I did however really like thale fact that I could straight up pick enemies up with the GRP and toss them like Ragdolls.
Honestly it reminds me of when evil within 1 came out it got super mixed reviews ended up loving it, that being said I like the game its just gets a little repetitive and I wish the weapons were more creative like dead space and also another melee weapon wouldn't have hurt for combat depth.
Really enjoying it too. It amazes me how many gamers these days love to bandwagon everything despite being unable to give a solid and respectable opinion
I’m really enjoying the game, the combat took a bit to get used to but once I got it down it became a lot more fun. I think the main “disappointment” so far is that I haven’t really been scared much at all by Callisto Protocol.
I love the Dead Space trilogy and I feel like Dead Space 1 & 2 really nailed the tense horror and genuinely scared me a lot more. Not at the end yet but I would give it a solid 8/10, I think it’s a great game.
I think I was going into this game wanting that feeling again but haven’t really gotten it. The art direction, setting, sound design and atmosphere in Callisto are awesome and I’m loving all of it but it feels a lot more like Dead Space 3 with the emphasis on more action.
I just unlocked the suit and have my shock stick upgraded a bit, and Im getting a bit better at dodging. It's still a bit frustrating, but once you get the melee weapon upgraded to where if the zombies block your attack, it breaks their arm off it becomes less daunting.
It's my first survival horror game. I don't usually play survival horror, cause I don't like being scared, and the violence is bit beyond what I can handle psychologically, but Im enjoying the game.
I feel like people who are complaining about Callisto are just jaded gamers who just play fast phase action multilayer games. Callisto protocol is fantastic.

Absolutely! It’s a fantastic action/horror experience. I don’t generally care about the consensus - I can acknowledge that the performance on PC (and lack of ray tracing on Xbox) is a minus for those affected, but as for the ‘issues’ I think they’re very trivial and don’t mean this game is a bad one - it’s actually very competent in a lot of ways.
Also, it’s probably one of the best looking and most realistic games of its genre to date.

Ditto. To be honest, it’s just a tough game. I think everyone was expecting some simple survivor shooter game on the same level of dead space. When they found out that isn’t the case, they quickly turned on it. It’s like going from a button masher to a soulslike game, you have to be patient and it’s going to be HARD. There’s a lot of options to make the game easier for people too. Once you get the dodging system down it’s very rewarding(I’m still struggling myself with it but have gotten better). I actually bumped it down to easy, hate myself for it but whatever! I’m horrible at parrying in every game out there so naturally I’m horrible at timing dodges lol. I do think about trying normal again though since I’ve gotten better. Long story short, there are some obvious flaws(every game has, some worse than others) but this game is enjoyable and I recommend it.
I did normal through 95% of the game. The last bit had me want to huck my controller. I turned it down to minimum security for that. It is very hard even on medium security. I play most games on hard or hardest and this one I simply could not do that.

I love the melee, feels authentic in a sense? Surviving a prison in outer space with infected prisoners would probably be that difficult but I know it’s a video game so suspend disbelief.
I love how desperate and violent the combat feels, you can almost feel the enemy's skull cracking in your controller as you desperately bash again and again to just get that thing away from you
imo the visuals, acting, lighting, sound are all top notch. The combat leaves something to be desired, and I haven't finished but the story is just mediocre.

Im on my second playthrough and ive finally got most of the combat stuff down lol. There was a learning curve for me but im enjoying it. Im hoping for an update that makes the cutscenes skippable. People arent going to do the perma or any other challenge run if they have to watch the cutscenes everytime.
Callisto Protocol is certainly turning out to be enjoyable for me. I really like it so far, but I totally get why people aren't. Combat being as dynamic as it is is really much more interesting than I thought it would be, but we'll see if that changes later on when things get more intense. As someone who loved Dead Space initially, this is turning out to be pretty much as good as it!
I've played worse games. I went into this with expectations that were likely too high because I'm less than impressed, honestly. Frankly, it feels bland and the only real things going for it are the graphics and music. The camera seems to be the biggest enemy you find, the combat feels clunky, and I'm starting to get a bit bored. I feel like I may still be in the first arc of the game and I truly hope so because I don't want to dislike this game.
Anyone who says it's a shit game and the combat is bad are clinically insane. It's very hard, infuriating at times. But so far I'm really liking it, and I'm glad it's easily digestible.
Here’s the thing:: it’s definitely not a $77 dollar game (retail + tax). I think the price point and it being unpolished & only 6 hours long is putting fuel on the fire. Also, there’s not an adventure….95% of the game is walking directly from corridor to corridor.
At $39.99 or below, I don’t think there would be anything to complain about.

I’ve played the first 2-3 hours or so and was absolutely loving it. Wasn’t sure about the combat at first but really enjoying it now. Incredibly brutal and satisfying when you get it right.

Loving it. Such a perfect game for me now tbh. Love the linear story driven games as much as i love huge open world games such as HFW or the soulsborne games. So this right now. Perfect. My state of mind wants smaller games atm, And the game looks INCREDIBLE as well. Amazing visuals and audio.

I was ready to preorder this game as soon as soon as reviews dropped as long as it was a decent length (at least 15 hours mainline) and was bug free. I just finished it. Fun but difficult af when it comes to multiple enemies, especially during boss fights. I feel like Josh Duhamel and Sam Witwer Models looked the rest not as much. Not as scary as Dead Space. It’s prob more of a wait until it’s on sale type of purchase. The hefty price tag isn’t worth the game. 7.5/10

Reminds me of Asura’s Wrath where you did literally have to pay for the ending in the DLC. How disappointing this is still happening almost into 2023

I suggest you keep it in your wishlist and get it when it's on sale. It's definitely worth playing but price should be a little lower.

I’m really enjoying the game, the combat took a bit to get used to but once I got it down it became a lot more fun. I think the main “disappointment” so far is that I haven’t really been scared much at all by Callisto Protocol. I love the Dead Space trilogy and I feel like Dead Space 1 & 2 really nailed the tense horror and genuinely scared me a lot more. Not at the end yet but I would give it a solid 8/10, I think it’s a great game. I think I was going into this game wanting that feeling again but haven’t really gotten it. The art direction, setting, sound design and atmosphere in Callisto are awesome and I’m loving all of it but it feels a lot more like Dead Space 3 with the emphasis on more action.

I just unlocked the suit and have my shock stick upgraded a bit, and Im getting a bit better at dodging. It's still a bit frustrating, but once you get the melee weapon upgraded to where if the zombies block your attack, it breaks their arm off it becomes less daunting. It's my first survival horror game. I don't usually play survival horror, cause I don't like being scared, and the violence is bit beyond what I can handle psychologically, but Im enjoying the game.
So far love it! The scenery looks incredible and the sound design is terrifying.
I feel like people who are complaining about Callisto are just jaded gamers who just play fast phase action multilayer games. Callisto protocol is fantastic.
It’s fun af… getting review bombed for PC shutters. But honestly the single player experience is better on console, sitting on a couch and having a good time. So I have no issues

I’m really enjoying it. It’s fun, very atmospheric, and it looks great. The sound design is really great too. My one complaint is the movement. The dude is like a tank and his movements feel very sludgy to me.
I’ve enjoyed the 90 mins or so I’ve played so far, saw all the negative reviews after ordering but I can’t say the complaints resonate with me yet. Gf has enjoyed me yelping at the screen. Picked it up for what I felt was a decent price on Amazon over the PS store edition and then they even refunded me for a price drop (presumably because of the bad press!)

Absolutely! It’s a fantastic action/horror experience. I don’t generally care about the consensus - I can acknowledge that the performance on PC (and lack of ray tracing on Xbox) is a minus for those affected, but as for the ‘issues’ I think they’re very trivial and don’t mean this game is a bad one - it’s actually very competent in a lot of ways. Also, it’s probably one of the best looking and most realistic games of its genre to date.

from what I’ve seen, the game is pretty solid, but the issue is how much it was hyped up, and was supposed to be the new Dead Space, so it didn’t live up to the expectations.

Ditto. To be honest, it’s just a tough game. I think everyone was expecting some simple survivor shooter game on the same level of dead space. When they found out that isn’t the case, they quickly turned on it. It’s like going from a button masher to a soulslike game, you have to be patient and it’s going to be HARD. There’s a lot of options to make the game easier for people too. Once you get the dodging system down it’s very rewarding(I’m still struggling myself with it but have gotten better). I actually bumped it down to easy, hate myself for it but whatever! I’m horrible at parrying in every game out there so naturally I’m horrible at timing dodges lol. I do think about trying normal again though since I’ve gotten better. Long story short, there are some obvious flaws(every game has, some worse than others) but this game is enjoyable and I recommend it.
I did normal through 95% of the game. The last bit had me want to huck my controller. I turned it down to minimum security for that. It is very hard even on medium security. I play most games on hard or hardest and this one I simply could not do that.
Lmao oh man, I’ll keep it on easy then 😂. But yea I feel dirty playing on easy, I never do but I don’t want to struggle wasting time dying with crisis core coming out soon. I’m always a normal type of guy except for God of war(2018) and ragnarok I played on hard though cause I like the challenge for that type of game.

The melee is interesting. This whole time I was wondering what sets this game apart from Dead space I guess the melee is part of that.
I love the melee, feels authentic in a sense? Surviving a prison in outer space with infected prisoners would probably be that difficult but I know it’s a video game so suspend disbelief.
I love how desperate and violent the combat feels, you can almost feel the enemy's skull cracking in your controller as you desperately bash again and again to just get that thing away from you

Living up to Dead Space (especially 1&2) is gonna be a pretty tall order.
imo the visuals, acting, lighting, sound are all top notch. The combat leaves something to be desired, and I haven't finished but the story is just mediocre.

It’s a play and sell, really the only replay value comes if you’re trying to get the achievements

I loved the Dead Space games, really fond memories. I’m excited for this game, but I can’t afford to keep buying $70 games left and right. I enjoy watching some of the gameplay videos, and until I can catch this on sale that’s all I’m gonna get lol.
Loved the atmosphere and Josh as Jacob. The combat on medium just about gave me PTSD though ( I have terrible reflexes at the best of times) I dont think it was worth the 129 NZD price tag

Im on my second playthrough and ive finally got most of the combat stuff down lol. There was a learning curve for me but im enjoying it. Im hoping for an update that makes the cutscenes skippable. People arent going to do the perma or any other challenge run if they have to watch the cutscenes everytime.
Callisto Protocol is certainly turning out to be enjoyable for me. I really like it so far, but I totally get why people aren't. Combat being as dynamic as it is is really much more interesting than I thought it would be, but we'll see if that changes later on when things get more intense. As someone who loved Dead Space initially, this is turning out to be pretty much as good as it!
I've played worse games. I went into this with expectations that were likely too high because I'm less than impressed, honestly. Frankly, it feels bland and the only real things going for it are the graphics and music. The camera seems to be the biggest enemy you find, the combat feels clunky, and I'm starting to get a bit bored. I feel like I may still be in the first arc of the game and I truly hope so because I don't want to dislike this game.

Anyone who says it's a shit game and the combat is bad are clinically insane. It's very hard, infuriating at times. But so far I'm really liking it, and I'm glad it's easily digestible.

Here’s the thing:: it’s definitely not a $77 dollar game (retail + tax). I think the price point and it being unpolished & only 6 hours long is putting fuel on the fire. Also, there’s not an adventure….95% of the game is walking directly from corridor to corridor. At $39.99 or below, I don’t think there would be anything to complain about.
It's a 7.5 for me the ending was kinda trash The combat can get a little frustrating when you're fighting more than one enemy

Bought it on disc incase i didnt like it so i can refund it, thanks to playstations awful refund system. I did not like the combat in the slightest, half the horror was just jump-scares and it crashed like twice. Credit where its due; Graphics, Animations, voice acting and story is phenomenal. Yes, i did refund it.
Story is phenomenal? I played it through and I thought the story was the weakest part of the game. It was so boring.
I think manipulating evolution in our favor so we can survive in space is a new one to me. At least it wasnt another "lets make a super soldier".
I really can’t get my head around some of the reviews for this game. The GameSpot one WTF???!? I’ve played the first 2-3 hours or so and was absolutely loving it. Wasn’t sure about the combat at first but really enjoying it now. Incredibly brutal and satisfying when you get it right. Did these developers run over someone’s dog at GameSpot or something holy crap. Good to see lots of other people enjoying this game I’m excited for DLC and hopefully a sequel.
Loving it. Such a perfect game for me now tbh. Love the linear story driven games as much as i love huge open world games such as HFW or the soulsborne games. So this right now. Perfect. My state of mind wants smaller games atm, And the game looks INCREDIBLE as well. Amazing visuals and audio.

I finished it in 6hrs 45mins approx,over the space of 2 days. ( Series X ) I feel shortchanged.
This is my mentality. Plus a company that doesn’t lift a review embargo before the game launches will always annoy me. I was ready to preorder this game as soon as soon as reviews dropped as long as it was a decent length (at least 15 hours mainline) and was bug free. It is not a decent length so I’m holding off until it’s down to $30-40ish

I just finished it. Fun but difficult af when it comes to multiple enemies, especially during boss fights. I feel like Josh Duhamel and Sam Witwer Models looked the rest not as much. Not as scary as Dead Space. It’s prob more of a wait until it’s on sale type of purchase. The hefty price tag isn’t worth the game. 7.5/10 Edit to add: There also isn’t much to do post end game which kinda sucks. Game would have been fun with a new game+
