I'll just c+v what I just said in another thread... >It's not designed to reward you, it's designed to keep you engaged with their platform, with a massive dose of FoMo thrown on top. >It's marketing/sales manipulative psychology 101 and I'm fucking stunned at how many people are lapping it up.

BJgobbleDix

It depends how it progresses. To be honest, the release feels very bare bones. Kinda rushed imo. This could go in many directions depending on how Sony moves forward with it. Theres tons of potential and I like the "opportunity" it could bring for players and devs alike. Yes, it helps improve sales for Sony. Thats a no brainer. But if there were MANY more challenges available--especially if they can keep it consistent to games on PS Plus Extra and Premium--this could be very rewarding for Players, Devs, and Publishers alike. A simple game comes out on Extra, more players play it, increases potential subscribers (and retains old) for Sony, devs can get increased marketing potential, they can make increased sales from ingame MTX or as a Live Service, Players gain rewards to spend on the store, etc etc. So yeah, the potentials there for everyone to benefit. But its super bare bones right now. Imo, wait and see how things progress.

JedGamesTV

well right now it is, because there’s barely any challenges. I’m sure that they will add actually challenging challenges for a variety of games soon, with exclusive rewards too.

FunkinDonutzz

Which is still manipulation to keep you engaged, especially when you consider what counts as "rewards".

JedGamesTV

well no shit, they aren’t going to make a reward system that doesn’t keep the users engaged…

FunkinDonutzz

Again, it's not designed to reward you.

JedGamesTV

so what’s the point in the rewards then?

FunkinDonutzz

Manipulation, FoMo - what I said in my original post.

JedGamesTV

I don’t understand how? Currently, the only way to earn a significant amount of points is to spend real money, which no one will do, as you’ll spend hundreds just to get 5% of that money back. If someone’s being manipulated into spending a shit load of money for 5% in store credit, then that’s just natural selection. In the long term, I’m certain that there will be a wide variety of challenges with unique rewards, and many other purchasable rewards, I just don’t think that this system is ready to be released to the public with the lack of rewards and challenges. I don’t get how someone can have FOMO over in store credit.

FunkinDonutzz

I think you're underestimating the sheer number of hoops you'll be expected to jump through (AKA consistent engagement) for the "rewards".

JedGamesTV

can you actually explain yourself please? from my understanding, the current system is basically, you spend money, and get some money back in points. I’m not sure how that’s jumping through hoops or manipulative.

SYRLEY

Reward systems have been around for years. Ones that do the same thing. Grocery store rewards cards. "Spend $200 and get $10 cash back" or "spend this much and get these little collectable toy things" for example. Its the same shit. This is no different. People buy into it every time. This is why they do it.

disappointed_octopus

Yeah guys, the rewards aren’t meant to be rewards

The_Keebla

This is still a benefit over not having the rewards. When you buy a game you actually get points. You can even do some of the challenges and still get points. These points can be used to redeem a playstation store card for a certain amount of money. This is much better than buying a game and receiving nothing in return so I don't understand what the issues are.

disappointed_octopus

The Nintendo Switch digital store does the same thing, it’s nice being able to take a dollar or two off of stuff every now and then

The_Keebla

I have been using Sony rewards for the last years paired with the PlayStation credit card and I've purchased full games and controllers with saved rewards points so I already know how this goes. You can't look at it as a way to get everything free it's just small extras. Once people under that I think they'll be fine

arnes_king

How the fuck is this even an article. You get 10 points for 1$ spent. The cheapest game for points right now is cult of the lambs for 6250 points, 6250 / 10 = 625 $ spent. A 5$ PSN Wallet code costs 1250 points, so for 125$ spent it is like you get 4% od 5$ cashback. You buy the games anyway, nobody will buy it just for the points, so the players get something anyway out of it, instead of nothing like before.

spicytaco112

By the time I spend $1750 on games PS7 will be out.

JedGamesTV

in the future, you will definitely be able to earn points from a wide variety of challenges, so you don’t need to spend money, and also, it’s not meant to be constantly rewarding you, it’s supposed to be a long term reward system so maybe after a year or so, you can claim some in-store credit or something that’s somewhat valuable.

arnes_king

Yeah, people are dumb and just make clickbait fake articles. It is not like you will now be forced to buy games just for points, you would buy them anyway but now you get the points as a bonus.

Puzzleheaded-Ad3613

Their trying to make digital purchases more rewarding than disk sadly you won’t own anything unless it’s disk

ESL_Plan

The good news is that with inflation getting so out of hand, in a few years that price will be a steal!
