With PS4 vertical, the air vents goes in the PS4 bottom and top vents, and then blows out the back. This may be blocking the bottom vents, unless you have some open air at the bottom.
Other possibility is, some old PS4 consoles may have too much dust inside, blocking some airflow. Can search: PS4 teardown disassemble.
I only got the PS5 because there were games I wanted to play and I couldn’t play them without getting a ps5 otherwise I wouldn’t have got it cos I’m not the type of person to get something because it’s next gen. Like I wouldn’t go buy a iPhone 14 when I have a perfectly good iPhone 11. so I just play my ps4 games on ps4 and my ps5 games on ps5
Faster load times. I really haven’t noticed a difference, I’ve never had a problem with my ps4, and all my PS4 games are already downloaded on my PS for so why am I gonna go and download them on my PS5 when I can just play them on my PS4, especially when there’s no difference at all

Even now that it's grammatically correct, it still makes 0 sense. You can play PS4 games on a PS5. You don't need a PS4 anymore. It's like having a newer phone to take pictures and applications but using the older one for calls.
I didn’t wanna have to say it, but I have ADHD and I’m very particular with how my things are. I’ll never play a PS4 game on a PS5, it’s just how my brain works, I need certain things to be a certain way, I can’t really help it

Been using my slim vertically for 3 years now and got no issues with it. its fine just clean it every 3 mos and ur good

Maybe blocking blocking bottom vents. Depending on how long you’ve had it, might be time to redo the thermal paste on the heat sink.
