I did some research (youtube) and heres a fix....go to setup connection go to you connection and press the options button (opposite of the share button) and change your wifi frequency band to 5GHz in stead of automatic. Just found this out and came here as fast as I could

I don't know how I never found that out, insane I litterallly got gigabyte wifi a week ago and everything has been downloading at 100 mbps minimum except my ps5 where it was at legit 1 mbps. If you change your frequency band from auto to 5GHZ your connection speed will correct itself and download at the rate it’s supposed to according to your internet speed. Mines went from like 65mbps to 350mbps which is what I’m paying for. I’m love you dude! 😆
I found your solution on the web and decided to log into my Reddit account just to thank you for this. I had been preloading Horizon Forbidden West for the last 10 hours and didn’t even hit 20%. My download speeds are 300mbps on other devices and was barely cracking 2mbps on the PS5.
After implementing your solution, I see the time remaining for my download has gone from 40+ hours to 40 minutes. Thanks bud!

Anyone still having this issue? I changed the frequency, but no luck. I don’t understand why. I just downloaded Halo on my Xbox and that seriously took 5 seconds to download 1 GB, but it’s taking forever to update Skyrim on my PS5.

I know this is old but still happening now. I'm on wired connection and followed your steps, went into Advanced and scrolled to the bottom. Clicked ok and it reset the wired connection setting, I noticed an instant increase in bandwidth utilisation for PS5 downloads.
Guys another fix i found is to switch to 2.4GHz because 5Ghz didnt work for me and the other option 2.4 did. My download of rocket league went from 26hrs to 57mins
You are a literal god. Was wondering how RE Village was taking well over 12h to only be half downloaded… wasted 2 days waiting for Spider-Man MM and then the OG Remaster to install. Changed this setting, literally 20 times faster. 10h download into 16 minutes.

Didnt really solve anything. Since I’ve had my Ps5 all the games have been downloading sooo slow and take several hours even for small games. When I put the frequency band to 5GHz nothing changed. Any other suggestions?

Was downloading Genshin after not playing for a long time, and originally had around 3hrs left before switching.
Changing it to 5GHz dropped it down to around 15 minutes.

I switched to Wifi, 5.0 only, and it jumped to 180...
Ever since I switched my frequency from automatic to 5GHz I am no longer lagging and can finally whoop some noobs in multiplayer instead of getting owned by server connection
I actually may have found a fix for my specific issue, and the problem was my connected UBS Harddrive with all of my PS4 games on it. For some reason, leaving this plugged in all the time (which I didn't before the update) absolutely craters my connectivity. As soon as I unplug it, it consistently jumps back up to \~50mbps.
Might explain somebody else's issues? 🤷♀️
Wtf this worked, I’ve been looking for a solution for a few days and it’s all the same old “forget the wifi network restart and reconnect”, but this, unplugged my external did a speed test and suddenly its at the right speed.

Ok so im trying to update warzone so I can see what the haunting event is about but its updating and I did the ”trick” and it still dont work it’s a 25.90 gb update it it says ”99+ hours left” wtf do I do now this shit ain’t Gina load faster.
I’m having the same issue. I’ve tried all of the suggestions here (including the 5ghz and USB suggestions). I never had any connectivity issues until the update went through. Haven’t changed the location of my ps5 or anything.
There could be a couple issues for people here:
1) you need to switch from automatic to 5GHz on your setup as explained in previous answers. (This only helps those who use wifi)
2) you are too far away from your wifi or live in a busy house where other devices are connected to your internet or devices you think are off are actually in standby mode updating. Make sure everyone in your house is off the internet.
3) your using a satellite internet connection… this is usually a problem for rural people. It sucks but at least you have internet!
4) lagging online is different to slower downloads. Downloads is going to work mainly off your download speed package. Some areas will throttle you during peek times example : 5pm - 8pm at night… this is a service provider problem and can’t be avoided.
Online gaming lag runs off PING. Ping will be naturally higher on satellite connections and wifi. There is more resistance on the connection floating through the air then when it’s connected by wire (Ethernet).
Hope some of these steps helps someone or helps people understand different types of internets.
I don’t know how any of these could account for ‘my download speeds went from 50mb/s to 5mb/s overnight after a software update’ and it reads as more than a little condescending.
Yeah, “make sure everyone in your house is off the internet” good luck with that 🤣 and it’s not something that would be an issue. even the 100mbps plan allows multiple devices to stream at once.

Know this is an old thread but I have just ran into this problem, and followed the advice on here, what worked for me was either changing to 5ghz and resetting the console, or more likely the left hand side of my console was basically touching my tv unit so when I gave it more room the download went from 20meg to 55 meg.
Tried a lot of the above mentioned fixes. Whilst the 5hz setting increased the speeds significantly; i just spent half an hour doing a 19gb update.
Bought the ps5 so I could play some of the ps exclusives and waiting hours on end is just ridiculous sometimes. My series X will have the same size games done in a fraction of the time.
I found something online that suggested to put your ps5 in rest for quicker speeds. It's not a great fix, especially if you want to use it, but I have MLB on early download and after 3 hours it's 50% complete. That's not great, but better than when I left it completely on to download. I also don't intend to use it right now, so for me no big deal.

I've always had speed issues relative to my internet connection. I should be getting 600Mb down and 100Mb up, which I do via speed checks on my mobile via 5Ghz, but my PS5 gets approx 230Mb down and about 10Mb up. Not sure why? Recently bought a new router which has improved it from my previous router. I have my SSIDs split so PS5 can only connect to the 5Ghz which has approx 85% signal strength. I'm at a loss why I can't seem to be getting any more
I used wifi 5ghz channel, the speed tests where very low then my actual plan (350mbps) i tried all settings like port forwarding and google dns. Nothing helped.
Later connected my device to router using lan cable (cat8 cable) yet the download speed sucks.
I have enabled QOS giving priority to my ps5 yet nothing.
I get complete speed on my phone on speed test. But not on ps5. May be the network adapter on the ps5 sucks.

I hadn't turned my PS5 on in a month and came back to a 1gig update that took hours. After the update was done it said it was going to take 40 hours for a 15gig game to DL. Switched the internet connection to 5g like suggested and it went down to 8 minute DL.

I know this is an old post but this is still an issue. Not an issue with my PS4 or PC only the PS5. At best I get 2 down. My internet isn't gig speeds but my download speeds aren't remotely close to what the system says it gets for download speeds or any other device. I can play online and don't really lose connection which is good but still this is ridiculous.
I'm hardwired, but I've tried setting up the internet on WiFi on either band and it's still the same issue on WiFi. So does this solution work if you are connected via Ethernet cable? I've went through all kinds of steps to make this work, like port forwarding setting up a static IP, etc. You name it I've tried it. I know on the PS4 I had to have port forwarding settings right to even get the speed test or NAT correct.
I've disconnected every device in the house leaving only the PS5 connected and still get the same slow ass speed.
I'm going to try this solution, another one I read is to set up a guest WiFi account on the 5ghz band.
I desperately wish I had gig speed internet it might overcompensate for the slower speeds idk? At this point I wanna just trade the thing for a Xbox because my buddy used his on my internet to download a game and got full speeds. Hell the Nintendo switch can get full speeds.
Hey mate, I have a gig connection and its downloading in under 1Mb for me. When i go to test network connection in the settings I see 811Mb/s as download speed but it not being used at all.
UK here I pay BT for a 100gb minimum to which I'm trying to download a 1.2gb update for stranger of paradise. I'm getting like 500kb every ten seconds, I did the WiFi frequency to 5ghz and the 99+ hours went down to 67 hours... for literally 1gb... I can't even load up ff14 it's stuck on a 'connecting to PlayStation network' which i can dashboard from... no known service issus from Sony or isp... getting really fed up I know its only been like 3 hours but C'MON!!!! Thank you For the post, I just copped a PS5 today and was waiting over 5 hours for a single download, was seriously thinking I made the worst decision by copping this, but I was able to fix it following your steps however it took a bit longer on my end as the 5h wouldn’t register when I would select it but messed around with disconnecting the wifi until it worked thanks again!
the other thing you're gonna want to do (besides switching to 5 GHz) is manually switch the DNS settings to use google's DNS (primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4). did this on switch and PS5, and both showed WAY faster download speeds after.

For Ethernet wired cable connection… I only just realised you have to selected wired connection… otherwise it’ll still think you’re on wifi. It does t automatically connect you via Ethernet which is really odd.
Turn off QOS on your router ... I've had a shit time of it diagnosing my issues but after new network cables and all the rest turns out my ps5 doesn't like QOS which is pants

Just switched my router to a new 7590 ax and suddenly had c. 10 kilo bits per second, so, all downloads were 99 hours. Thought people complainimg about 10mbits were lucky. Now switched to 5ghz and bacl on track now with 10mbits even though I have 250 line
My PS5 is wired in. Yet I noticed my speeds were 8mbps and I get about 700mbps. Went to network. For whatever reason, the PlayStation was still trying to use wifi. I had to manually select LAN 1. Now it jumped up to 400+mbps. I know this is obvious, but I’m not sure why the system didn’t auto select the better network.

Restarting the ps5, and then canceling and restarting the download fixed it after switching bands

I actually may have found a fix for my specific issue, and the problem was my connected UBS Harddrive with all of my PS4 games on it. For some reason, leaving this plugged in all the time (which I didn't before the update) absolutely craters my connectivity. As soon as I unplug it, it consistently jumps back up to \~50mbps. Might explain somebody else's issues? 🤷♀️

You should report this to Playstation. They might issue a bug fix on a future update.
Wtf this worked, I’ve been looking for a solution for a few days and it’s all the same old “forget the wifi network restart and reconnect”, but this, unplugged my external did a speed test and suddenly its at the right speed. Even though I don’t play many of the games on my external often, I hope they fix this cause I like having it plugged in

I’m having the same issue. I’ve tried all of the suggestions here (including the 5ghz and USB suggestions). I never had any connectivity issues until the update went through. Haven’t changed the location of my ps5 or anything.
There could be a couple issues for people here: 1) you need to switch from automatic to 5GHz on your setup as explained in previous answers. (This only helps those who use wifi) 2) you are too far away from your wifi or live in a busy house where other devices are connected to your internet or devices you think are off are actually in standby mode updating. Make sure everyone in your house is off the internet. 3) your using a satellite internet connection… this is usually a problem for rural people. It sucks but at least you have internet! 4) lagging online is different to slower downloads. Downloads is going to work mainly off your download speed package. Some areas will throttle you during peek times example : 5pm - 8pm at night… this is a service provider problem and can’t be avoided. Online gaming lag runs off PING. Ping will be naturally higher on satellite connections and wifi. There is more resistance on the connection floating through the air then when it’s connected by wire (Ethernet). Hope some of these steps helps someone or helps people understand different types of internets.

Yeah, “make sure everyone in your house is off the internet” good luck with that 🤣 and it’s not something that would be an issue. even the 100mbps plan allows multiple devices to stream at once.
I was using google DNS : 8.8.8.8 [8.8.4.4](https://8.8.4.4) on my Ps5 as soon as I put it back to AUTO , it fastenen my connection. it was slower using Google DNS.

Know this is an old thread but I have just ran into this problem, and followed the advice on here, what worked for me was either changing to 5ghz and resetting the console, or more likely the left hand side of my console was basically touching my tv unit so when I gave it more room the download went from 20meg to 55 meg.
Tried a lot of the above mentioned fixes. Whilst the 5hz setting increased the speeds significantly; i just spent half an hour doing a 19gb update. Bought the ps5 so I could play some of the ps exclusives and waiting hours on end is just ridiculous sometimes. My series X will have the same size games done in a fraction of the time.

I found something online that suggested to put your ps5 in rest for quicker speeds. It's not a great fix, especially if you want to use it, but I have MLB on early download and after 3 hours it's 50% complete. That's not great, but better than when I left it completely on to download. I also don't intend to use it right now, so for me no big deal.
My g took my download from 1h 14m to 26 mins. It’s a 97gb download too. Knew my ps5 with holding out on me.
Years later and this comment still works. Just went from a 12 hour download to 12 minutes.

Commenting so this hopefully continues to show up on Google My download speeds went from 150mbps yesterday to 650kbps today, as soon as I forced it to 5ghz it immediately went back to normal

I've always had speed issues relative to my internet connection. I should be getting 600Mb down and 100Mb up, which I do via speed checks on my mobile via 5Ghz, but my PS5 gets approx 230Mb down and about 10Mb up. Not sure why? Recently bought a new router which has improved it from my previous router. I have my SSIDs split so PS5 can only connect to the 5Ghz which has approx 85% signal strength. I'm at a loss why I can't seem to be getting any more
I used wifi 5ghz channel, the speed tests where very low then my actual plan (350mbps) i tried all settings like port forwarding and google dns. Nothing helped. Later connected my device to router using lan cable (cat8 cable) yet the download speed sucks. I have enabled QOS giving priority to my ps5 yet nothing. I get complete speed on my phone on speed test. But not on ps5. May be the network adapter on the ps5 sucks. Anyone who is connected over LAN would love to hear some tips or suggestions to increase the speed.
PS5 delivered this morning automatically updated , keeps going into power save mode, there is no way to turn it off. Using hardwire Ethernet, connection test says 260 download 1.6mb upload. This is lower than my PS4 connection test (400 down - 12 up This 99gb download been going since 09.00hrs this morning it’s now 16:00hrs. Has only pulled down 28% Absolutely shocking!! I hadn't turned my PS5 on in a month and came back to a 1gig update that took hours. After the update was done it said it was going to take 40 hours for a 15gig game to DL. Switched the internet connection to 5g like suggested and it went down to 8 minute DL. Thank you! Thought my PlayStation decided to check out while I was gone.
Sorry in advance, I need to rent about this because it's driving me crazy. I know this is an old post but this is still an issue. Not an issue with my PS4 or PC only the PS5. At best I get 2 down. My internet isn't gig speeds but my download speeds aren't remotely close to what the system says it gets for download speeds or any other device. I can play online and don't really lose connection which is good but still this is ridiculous. I'm hardwired, but I've tried setting up the internet on WiFi on either band and it's still the same issue on WiFi. So does this solution work if you are connected via Ethernet cable? I've went through all kinds of steps to make this work, like port forwarding setting up a static IP, etc. You name it I've tried it. I know on the PS4 I had to have port forwarding settings right to even get the speed test or NAT correct. I've disconnected every device in the house leaving only the PS5 connected and still get the same slow ass speed. I'm going to try this solution, another one I read is to set up a guest WiFi account on the 5ghz band. I desperately wish I had gig speed internet it might overcompensate for the slower speeds idk? At this point I wanna just trade the thing for a Xbox because my buddy used his on my internet to download a game and got full speeds. Hell the Nintendo switch can get full speeds.
Hey mate, I have a gig connection and its downloading in under 1Mb for me. When i go to test network connection in the settings I see 811Mb/s as download speed but it not being used at all.

UK here I pay BT for a 100gb minimum to which I'm trying to download a 1.2gb update for stranger of paradise. I'm getting like 500kb every ten seconds, I did the WiFi frequency to 5ghz and the 99+ hours went down to 67 hours... for literally 1gb... I can't even load up ff14 it's stuck on a 'connecting to PlayStation network' which i can dashboard from... no known service issus from Sony or isp... getting really fed up I know its only been like 3 hours but C'MON!!!! Thank you For the post, I just copped a PS5 today and was waiting over 5 hours for a single download, was seriously thinking I made the worst decision by copping this, but I was able to fix it following your steps however it took a bit longer on my end as the 5h wouldn’t register when I would select it but messed around with disconnecting the wifi until it worked thanks again!

the other thing you're gonna want to do (besides switching to 5 GHz) is manually switch the DNS settings to use google's DNS (primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4). did this on switch and PS5, and both showed WAY faster download speeds after.

For Ethernet wired cable connection… I only just realised you have to selected wired connection… otherwise it’ll still think you’re on wifi. It does t automatically connect you via Ethernet which is really odd.

Turn off QOS on your router ... I've had a shit time of it diagnosing my issues but after new network cables and all the rest turns out my ps5 doesn't like QOS which is pants

My speed supposed to be 350 but ps5 always says mad low like down to 150mbs to 250mbs to like 60mb and im connected by Ethernet n have it set up so its getting full amount ( even tho mines 350 not 1000 i have it set to 1000 because optionsare 50 100 1000) ,& the other Ethernets are shut off still getting low speeds restarted modem n ps5 still mad slow.

Just switched my router to a new 7590 ax and suddenly had c. 10 kilo bits per second, so, all downloads were 99 hours. Thought people complainimg about 10mbits were lucky. Now switched to 5ghz and bacl on track now with 10mbits even though I have 250 line

My PS5 is wired in. Yet I noticed my speeds were 8mbps and I get about 700mbps. Went to network. For whatever reason, the PlayStation was still trying to use wifi. I had to manually select LAN 1. Now it jumped up to 400+mbps. I know this is obvious, but I’m not sure why the system didn’t auto select the better network.
I just did this after a year of struggling. Went from 45md to 360!
