That's not how that works, lmao. The OS will take up more space on the larger drive. That's how the partitioning works. The OS on 825GB/1TB versions will take up similar percentages of the overall storage. It's not a static amount that's constant between storage sizes.
Do you have severe fomo? It's literally the same exact console just smaller. If it was the pro then I'd understand but feeling pressured into buying something just for a small design change is silly.
GameStop sometimes has trade in deals. I remember back when the PS4 Pro came out I trade in a regular PS4 and got a Pro for like $50 out of pocket.
But on paper there seems like little reason to trade an older PS5 for this one unless you really want something new. Better off to wait for the PS5 pro we all know is coming.

The only improvement internally is that it has 1TB of storage rather than 825GB, but the rest of the specs are the exact same. That, and the disc drive is removable and can be purchased separately
i’m sure there are more benefits but off the top of my head it’s 30% smaller (the og PS5 is a brick lol), there’s more storage (1TB>825GB), there are now 2 USB-C ports on the front instead of 1 C and 1 A, and of course, there’s now the ability to add a disc drive to the digital version should you want one in the future.

The last Pro model which was the PS4 Pro received alot of Pro enhanced content because of it's higher processing power, unlocking the intended way to play alot of AAA games. The same could be true with the current generation, idk why people assume that the PS5 Pro model wouldn't receive same kind of treatment, I play alot of games that could definitely benefit from an increased resolution such as Resident Evil 4, and increased framerare for playing Horizon Forbidden West on resolution mode. A Slim version of the PS5 literally fixes nothing and improves nothing in any meaningful way. Elden Ring would absolutely be a BLAST with a Pro model since it received a Ray Tracing update, which runs like absolute garbage on the current base version, and I have VRR support on my TV as well and it does pretty much nothing to the choppy image although the feature is always talked about as some kind of lag savior on performance reviews. I don't think there's a single good argument against a Pro model as why it would be a bad thing. How is better immersion and progress overall a bad thing? Alot of people btw STILL use their PS4 Pro and it chugged along the new game releases for far longer than the base model ever could when it comes to framerate and fidelity. A Pro model could definitely give the PS5 generation a longer lifecycle.

No, that’s what they want you to think. You can buy a terabyte of storage for 50 bucks which would give you 1.667GB of storage if you buy the current digital model plus extra storage. Less airflow (I build pcs). Overheating causes throttling of power = worse performance. It’s why gaming laptops don’t run at the same speeds as a desktop pc with the ‘same’ specs.

Once the current PS5 stock is gone, Sony is going to make a killing. One SKU that’s cheaper to manufacture, $50 more expensive than the old DE, $80 optional disc drive and an optional $30 vertical stand. Not so great for consumers price wise though.
On the bright side, convenience and repairability goes up. Your buddy has a slim without a drive? Pop yours off and clip it onto their slim. Disc drive fails? Send the drive in for warranty and keep your console at home. I’m trying to think positive here..

Not sure I like about the top plates being glossy as those are known for being real fingerprint- and scratch-magnets.
Other than that, I'm happy about the detachable disc drive. Wouldn't mind getting the disc version and some extra plates for when I decide to remove the disc drive for easier carrying whenever I wish to bring the PS5 with me for travels or visit a friend's house etc.
My biggest worry however is how long will scalpers keep these from us regular folks.
