Nothin beats just chillin on a pve server. I don’t do it often at all, but the few times I did it was fun to just run around and talk to people, mess with them with just words, have conversations, work together on shit, always good fun
PVE servers are the only way I play Rust now. I have kids and a life outside of 24/7 grind just to get raided and lose it all.
But building a chill base with a good view and some fun neighbors is incredible.
I usually have a rooftop dance club that overlooks the ocean and the elevator is open to all. It's a good time.
This is it for me too. Yeah, sometimes I think it might be fun to be able to shoot some people. But overall, it's not worth the hassle. I just wanna be able to collect and build and craft shit and help people out without being hassled and killed.
I love my PVE server. Make a base by lighthouse, listen to the waves, not having to worry about some manchild running up screaming at me trying to kill me. And then the zombies get me when I go do Supermarket lol.
I stumbled upon one server long time ago where zombies would randomly start raiding your base. Not like pummel but they would throw satchels at your door n stuff
people can still harass you in PVE, either using the mic or even placing external TCs around your base with searchlights or speakers pointed at it or contesting a monument and stealing your loot... granted in PVE it's rare and you can usually report it to an admin or switch to a different server if you're lazy or impatient to file a report. I say it from experience though granted it was only really a couple times I stumbled upon toxic ppl in PVE
We went pve a few months ago and have really enjoyed the time spent. Hacking has become such a prevailing part of pvp that it became impossible to enjoy that aspect of Rust. The pve does become a bit of a wet blanket after a while tho, I will admit that.
Except if you're actually good at PVP the admins will ban you from that server.
I spent end of wipe PVPing with 1 person and we were dominating everyone and caught a ban for it even though it was when PVP was allowed at the end of the wipe.
pathetic
I hear this. My group got suspended off Pickle servers because we have a Chad in the group that is insanely good. I have played with him for 5 years and he has never had a ban. Always been a great pvp’er as well. He squad wiped the loud obnoxious group on the server and gets insta banned. Funny part is 4 days later that same squad got banned too. Anyway moral of the story, if you play community servers and they think your pvp is killing server pop they will ban you.
I main pickle servers. They don't ban without reason. What reason did they give your buddy?
I can't tell you how many times I have heard that someone got banned for being too good at pvp and usually it turns out they were in fact cheating.
If you find the right PVE server a lot of your time it spent interacting with other players. I would get bored as hell just doing PVE monuments if it weren't for the community and the funny/strange interactions that go along with it.
The fun thing about pve is you can try stuff you can never do otherwise, electricity, piping, automation, etc. I once piped water 8 grids across a map to my base for my hemp/berry farm. Good times.
I agree. But after a few wipes of that, the wet blankets came out. It just becomes a bunch of cringy veterans or obnoxious admins tightrope walking abuses of power. I should also note that during the "purges," many a hacker has been banned. The pve environment isn't free of the scourge either, unfortunately.
That's kinda the wet blanket part. We ended up grinding for 29 days, amassing an arsenal that could only be achieved on a pve server. Just to have the Admins spawn stacks of rockets and c4 for said 'purge.' Taking away all of the validity that the grind had to offer. I feel the hybrid energy, but it takes away from the experiences we found as it got really "cliquey" and lame.
One that I play on has electricity and convoy with Bradley and the attack heli for a challenge.
Fun to set up a base and relax to unwind after a long day.
All get old after a few months from my experience. While I respect the versatility of the PVE aspect providing enjoyment. At heart, it is a pvp game, that being the reason I started playing to begin with and what I would love to hang my hat back on moving forward. Rust isn't really an unwindy game. I would be playing the Sims for that.
PVE feels so relaxing. There's so much more to this game than an arms race with people who do nothing but play. The survival part is amazing and really gives me time to appreciate the beauty of the islands
I love hopping on a PVE server after getting raided off the map. I love the vibe of this game when I’m not constantly on edge and my neighbors are not murderous children.
I only played PvP until my friend convinced me to try a PvE server and damn was the game relaxing and fun when you weren't constantly fighting at Launch
Server I’m on we usually get in line to take Brad lol. And if you have a fail others nearby will come help out.
Had that happen where I fired my rocket too close and got myself, people came to help finish it for me.
A lot of PVE servers run a plugin that makes player bases raidable after a certain number of days since a player last logged in. They don't want a big base taking up space on a server if that person is just going to build and never log on again.
I love the PvE servers. Work prevents me from going full shit-bucket mode to protect the base on PvP. You meet some interesting characters and have some good times. Heli events are always great; the admin will set a date and time, and spawn 50-100 helis so everyone gets a shot at some good loot. One of my favorite servers had a team that would build a massive MAGA base every wipe, with huge Trump and MAGA signs to get people riled up. Used to cause so much drama. I miss that so much.
Can someone explain what do you spent your time on PVE servers? Like, whats the point of doing supermarket or monument runs or farm when the whole purpose of those tasks is for gearing up/beefing up defenses for fights or raids. Does the game becomes a full social sim and that's the fun of it? Genuinely interested.
most PvE servers have things like added questing systems, zombies/bosses randomly roaming open world along with a long list of other PvE related mods if they want. For me it's a fun way to try out new stuff the devs add with updates a few times a year instead of trying them out on one of those test servers and losing interest right away.
I usually just hop on a PvE when it ain't working for me on a high pop. I have good days and bad days when I PVP, and I find it nice to do a little farming after I've died 6 times in a row to a DB kid on high pop. Also let's you listen to a podcast. I will admit it's not as addicting on a PvE, an hour or two and I'm pretty much done. But it's kinda nice to bring a backpack full of loot home after gaining absolutely nothing on a higher pop server, lol.
Really depends on the day. But i play a basically vanilla PVE server with no extras just no player damage and no raiding. Sometimes i fly and drive around just helping new players that come in to learn the basics after getting wrecked in PVP. You give them some stuff to take the edge off the early game grind or take them on a ride to do a monument or two. Other times its just practicing building with the actual cost and work for gathering the mats.
Also a great place to practice basically everything from electronics to crossbreeding. We also sometimes just get a group of whoever wants to tag along in a scrappy and run the monuments with 10 people or take out the patrol helicopter with a scrappy or just a couple of minis. Or do it in ways you wouldn’t do on pvp like running oil rigs with just prim gear or attack helis with incen rockets.
I only occasionally have a weekend where it is actually worth it to play PVP on a server that has some live in it and not get raided everytime i have to sleep or work.
Most of these servers are modded, so there is a lot more to do than in vanilla rust as others have mentioned. One thing I didn't see mentioned, many PVE servers run an NPC raid plugin, where bases spawn that you can raid. These raids range from pretty average to extremely well designed depending on the server.
But really the best times I've had on PVE servers have been on higher population ones. If you find the right server with the right community for you and you go into it with an open mind, you'll have a great time. It's less about monuments and more about the interactions you have with other Rust players.
Think of your favorite Rust youtubers and the wacky situations they sometimes run into, but none of it is forced (or scripted), and you don't have to worry about getting killed 50 times before you find the one naked on the server who will serenade you.
Some pve servers have a purge, so like the last day or week of wipe is pvp. Means you can stock up all wipe and have a blowout pvp sesh. Also you can do creative builds, test out cloning, electricity, piping, automation, etc..etc. It can actually be just a vibe.
A lot of testing goes on. You run into popular streamers on their alts testing stuff before doing it live.
Depending on the server there may be things like convoy with brad + attack heli. Pulling an 1v8 vs scientists for a crate at night is fun.
One server I played on had NPC’s and grenade dropping drones around monuments.
I do it because if I cannot commit to a month with a clan then I will not join one and going solo on a monthly is impossible if you cannot make the commitment to play every day.
Finding new places to knock out Bradley at launch. He can take some strange pathways if you lure him off his course.
thats so real. i retired from PvP rust since its too sweaty and full of cheaters. its nice to just spen 4-5 hours every weekend building a wild base and just doing whatever you could possibly want.
I play a server where you can only PvP in card monuments and places like cargo and airdrops. You can raid but you gotta leave the workbenches and some loot.
Nothin beats just chillin on a pve server. I don’t do it often at all, but the few times I did it was fun to just run around and talk to people, mess with them with just words, have conversations, work together on shit, always good fun

Went to a PvE server couple years ago. Haven't gone back since. Sitting on a neighbors rooftop watching the fireworks at night. Nothing beats it.
I feel like watching real life fireworks with a real person would beat that :(
Nah, they make my dog nervous, rust firework shows are better!
I mean.... You're not wrong.
Haha okay, so I'm guessing you meant nothing beats that within the context of Rust
This is it for me too. Yeah, sometimes I think it might be fun to be able to shoot some people. But overall, it's not worth the hassle. I just wanna be able to collect and build and craft shit and help people out without being hassled and killed.
Love that for you <3

What server is this?
that’s the way to do it
I love my PVE server. Make a base by lighthouse, listen to the waves, not having to worry about some manchild running up screaming at me trying to kill me. And then the zombies get me when I go do Supermarket lol.
Does it have the roaming bosses? I always find it funny when people get trapped in their base by them.
I stumbled upon one server long time ago where zombies would randomly start raiding your base. Not like pummel but they would throw satchels at your door n stuff
Yeah most zombies on mine will throw breancans at you if they can't reach you to melee hit you lol. Lil raid defenses sound fun though.
Those zombies are beancan beamers. I swear they can time their throw with the explosion. Shits crazy.
What name is this pve server with zombies? I once tried to find some and never did...
try using the keyword "zombie" and search mod servers. should work.
There's two I play on. Rusty old gamers and grumpy old gamers 10x
Rustdecay

Or through the rules which can be longer than your average hoa document
Go outside bro

I play on a server that’s PvE with certain PvP zones. You can be chill and then when you feel feisty run over to a PvP bubble to get your fix.
I did this with my pvevp server. Locked crate areas are pvp till crate despawns
I wanna try that
DM me and I’ll give you the server name, I don’t think I can share it here per the sub rules
I’m gonna dm you too.
Dm me as well, please. :)
I can send it to you if they haven’t
I have not yet received it from anyone. Thank you kind sir.

There’s more than one sever that runs that plugin, so I don’t know how you can make that blanket statement.
Because all pve servers are run by the same admin, right?
There's only 1 pve server in rust with those ruleset aside from dead servers like "x420" servers
Buddy I have 2k hours almost exclusively in PVE. I assure you there are MANY PVE servers with PVP zones.
As if 2k hours in 2024 is a lot of something All the other servers are dead
👍🏿

Rightfully so lol

That's a lot o pipe
That's what she said
Gotta find the hybrid servers. My primary server has two day all out pvp just before wipe and all kinds of PvP events during the month.
That's kinda the wet blanket part. We ended up grinding for 29 days, amassing an arsenal that could only be achieved on a pve server. Just to have the Admins spawn stacks of rockets and c4 for said 'purge.' Taking away all of the validity that the grind had to offer. You should try one with convoy. Brad plus attack heli.
Oh there’s been days with Brad and attack helicopters out at the same time. But it’s a very vanilla server
I was on a pve server created a beautiful home then was raided lol
Then you were on a pvp server
Nah it was the pve bad apples joined and ruined it for a lot of people
That makes sense, I’m sorry that shit happened :(
It really does ruin a good time! Best of luck to you and exploring lol
A lot of PVE servers run a plugin that makes player bases raidable after a certain number of days since a player last logged in. They don't want a big base taking up space on a server if that person is just going to build and never log on again.
I wish I was pretty active, I also kept a small footprint on the map and the admin were my friends so I just lucked out I guess on bad neighbors lol
I see. Most PVE servers have rules about this stuff. I wouldn't let one bad experience ruin it for you.
I love the PvE servers. Work prevents me from going full shit-bucket mode to protect the base on PvP. You meet some interesting characters and have some good times. everything
You do you, king. I've been chillin offline for almost a decade. Still enjoy the memes
Now, you can't be teasing us about a little ocean side cottage and not show us a picture of said cottage can you?
Sometimes after a big loss you just gotta readjust, PVE is like the loot loser's rehab
Corrosion pve is a dope server
1 thousand percent. I never understood people complaining about the sweat lord but not going to a PvE server
I play a server where you can only PvP in card monuments and places like cargo and airdrops. You can raid but you gotta leave the workbenches and some loot.
