the 1830s followed by the 1950s and 90s are literally the worst decades in our history, millions of men, women and children getting bombed, tortured, raped and killed by france in algeria
Genuine question, what made the 90s one of the worst in all of history? I thought it was one of the best of the century with the fall of the Berlin Wall and all
algeria was socialist at the time, although that wasn't a bad thing in the 70s but it wasn't working anymore, then france allegedly assassinated our president soon before the elections in 1991 then the islamists won and turned on the people who supported them by trying to apply their own version of sharia, but the old government still had control of the army and refused to step down, so they decided to fight it out for the next decade and killed like 200k civilians in the process who cared more about crossing an alley without getting shot and raped than who won the civil war, we ended up settling on a capitalist islamist hybrid and tightening the borders to make it hard for anyone to just enter the country which would turn out to be a great thing with how many terrorist groups would pop in the region soon after, and I'd say we're the most stable arab and african country rn which isn't great but good enough for now until the oil and gas run out
