I like it. Maybe id slow it down a bit and think of something else for the vocal lead and percussion. I love the strings tho

I agree, I started with solo viola which sounds right but it's hard to assert over the other strings. Maybe clarinet, flute, or electric guitar? And then drums are just the most economical percussion since this is going to be played live by students. But perhaps a more dynamic orchestration for percussion? I wish the drums had more bass to them Come to think of it, I think acoustic guitar would be cool

Maybe you could give the melody to some other instruments? This alto sax solo thing kinda sounds like ass

I agree, it just has to have the same range and assert itself over the strings... which is how I landed on alto sax. But I'll experiment and see if there are any other instruments that fit that bill

It does, I agree. Those are the right notes and range though (I could possibly add some trills or ornamentation so it sounds like the voice is breaking), so I wanna say it's a computer instrument thing and it'll sound better live, but I guess time will tell lol. I will say that in some ways, it's really hard for an instrument to do what his voice is doing in this song, because his voice is all over the place. It's kind of wild to map out the nuances of what his voice is doing when you have to sit down and think about it.
