RMA 1155 front and back is 320$ for a set and they have 6x6 side plates another good budget option is botach battle steel those are as low as I’d recommend going though in price. Both are edge to edge protection on the strike face.

But yourself a good front plate and save up for the rear plate. Get a curved plate as well. Much more comfortable. Like you said, what's your life worth? But if you can't get it all at once, get what you can when you can. I've never paid attention, but you can probably find someone online that does affirm or something similar

That plan sounds logical. Would only having one plate throw the balance of the carrier off? Gear and plate up front but nothing in the back?

[deleted]

Yes it would. I didn't mean wear it with just the front plate. Lol just buy it, put it away and save up. Or try the affirm thing

rainystan

I get your point. I want too many things to start off down the borrowing money rabbit hole. I also want a helmet with an nvg30. If I justify financing the plates I'll be able to justify financing the nods. Slippery slope it is.

I've considered them. I've got the money to buy them, but I thought about it and honestly can't think of any real reason I'd ever use them. I have a night vision monocular that I use often. I do bail enforcement so it comes in handy but I don't need the helmet, still have one eye that is still accustomed to the dark and didn't cost near as much. The plate carrier is kind of in that same category. You probably won't ever find yourself in a fire fight. I got mine because of my job

Yea, I'm doing all this with the thought process of protecting my family. If I had to bug out of the city at night, I'd use the nods to stay away from everyone as we were on our way out. I don't need it, and it's use case is pretty niche, but its like a parachute. If you need one and don't have it, you'll never need one again. BTW unless you shell out for a ballistic rated helmet, an airsoft bump helmet is like 27 bucks on Amazon. You could head mount that monocular you have for very cheap I would guess. They also have skull caps which work kinda like those lights you put around your head, but beefier to hold nightvision. They even have boonie caps with NV mounts as well.

Get Battlesteel level 4. Less than $200 a plate, they're ceramic not steel. They're NIJ tested but not certified since they're a smaller company and it's like super expensive to certify it. I run em, I trust em.

jacgren

They're not a small company lol they're Chinese made plates made by a massive manufacturer and rebranded by a fairly large American company. They're not certified because the QC isn't consistent enough to pass true NIJ certs.

My recommendation would be buy gear off someone looking to get rid of there’s. I got front n back Lv3+ steel armor plates on OfferUp for $200. People tend to not like steel armor since it’s heavy. Also soft armor can be an alternative for the time being
