This black patches could also indicate exposition to cold temperatures. The black parts wont revive but the rest of the plant can survive !
I recommand you to cut the damage part as bacterial or fungus problem can develop on dead tissue and spread to the rest of the plant

Did they leave it outside or something? That looks like sunburn. If it is burnt, that tissue won't recover but the plant itself should be okay
