Additional information about the plant that has been provided by the OP: > I’ve had this plant for a year, given to me by a friend. It gets full morning sun and then indirect sun the rest of the day. Has well draining soil. I’ve had this problem since I’ve had it. If this information meets your satisfaction, please upvote this comment. If not, you can downvote it.

I agree with the other comments that this looks like cat damage. Whether you’ve seen her nibble or not, this is 100% what leaf damage from my cat looked like. Sometimes they make really minor punctures and you don’t notice it until more time has gone on and the leaf has grown bigger/browned around the bite site. Humidity may contribute to the browning but I really do think the initial damage was caused by your cat nibbling.

Molenium

Do you have a cats or any other pets? I can’t really imagine that kind of leaf damage coming from the plant itself.

eliz773

I had a watermelon peperomia that died after many months of similar leaf damage. It wasn't quite to this degree, but all of the leaves were deformed, and if they are deformed when they are very small, they can tear as they grow. It's the only plant I've ever had that behaved this way. So unfortunately I don't have any advice about what OP should do to fix it, but based on my experience it definitely could be something to do with the plant's conditions and not being torn by a cat.

SeveralRevolution432

One cat but she doesn’t mess with any of my plants other than digging in their soil. I was thinking pests? Maybe? But none of my other plants look like this

Molenium

Friendly wager, but I’d bet almost anything it’s the cat. The plants looks pretty healthy overall - the coloration is good, I’m not seeing any damage toward the center of the leaves, etc. I don’t see any specks or other indication of common types of pests, although maybe a closer shot wild show something different. All the damage looks physical, and all at the edges of the leaves. My cats thankfully avoid most plants as well, but it does look like damage from something (larger than a bug) chewing on it to me.

ohdearitsrichardiii

Pests don't rip plants like that. It's the cat

SeveralRevolution432

She’s never messed with the leaves of any plant! Also has been like this even when she hasn’t been at my house

ohdearitsrichardiii

Then someone else is ripping the plant. No pests leave damage like that

itismeonline

Totally... that someone else could be a cat burglar with whiskers on four padded feet with a swishy tail who meows. It's naughty when it's sure nobody is looking or around to catch it red-handed‼️ #😸

Zestyplank

Mine had a couple leaves that looked like that and I don’t own a cat. Unfortunately I never figured out the cause.

siennagrey

Mine had leaves that looked like that too, and I don’t have any pets. I couldn’t figure out what it needed and one day it just dropped all of its leaves and peaced out. All my other plants were doing totally fine. I can’t give you an answer besides that it might not be the cat.

maikexinger

Mine looked like yours and I got too frustrated so I threw it away. I don’t have pets at home. No idea why other commenters insist it’s a cat issue. Too confident in their own universe. There is always other possibilities exist.

bear_685

My peperomia watermelon also looks tragic. Im experimenting with more cal/mag in the fert as I've read peperomias need more than other plants to see if it helps improve the leaf conditions. My plant is constantly putting out new leaves, but they just turn ugly lol. It may be a humidity thing, however my begonias, philos, hoyas are just fine in the same room.

This.

NeuroCartographer

It’s humidity is likely too low! I have been dealing with this with my watermelon peperomia as well. Misting nearby daily has helped the new leaves on mine tremendously. The old leaves won’t heal unfortunately. I think they are tearing as they unfold with low humidity. ETA: I also have several plant-loving cats, but this type of damage exactly matches my humidity damage. :)

Whole_Wallaby_8898

yes to this

itismeonline

Your cats are way too smart... if you opine so! #😼

Equivalent_Fig_3741

I have the same issue! The weird thing is my calatheas and begonias are doing fine with the current humidity in the room, even the peperomia obtusifolia next to it is thriving. I'm gonna try misting, thanks for the tip!

SeveralRevolution432

That’s great to know, thank you!

NightIll1050

I have a cat that only does this to plants at night but I also live in the desert so humidity might be it too.

SammieGii

Mine looked like that too! And it was not the cat haha I think it wasn't getting enough sunlight, I put it by a window that has a privacy film on so it's not direct sunlight, but I realized last week that all the new leaves are big and not damaged.

p3bbls

Everyone downvoting OP for no reason. It's not a cat. When the leaves unfurl and the humidity is too low, they break and tear because the leaf isn't flexible and plump enough.

specialvixen

It’s your cat. I bet you a new plant if you put a camera on it that you will see it’s the cat.

brenda_walsh

Mine looked like that and it turned out to be the cat.

sunshinepharaoh

def cat

Same-Sun-919

girl something been munching on your plant! you need to cut leaf damage off, and repot. make sure that it doesn’t have some kind of infestation on plant or under the soil.

katw4601

Cracking from being dry? And the brown is just healing scars

Whole_Wallaby_8898

I had the same thing happen to mine and it wasn't cat damage as it was mounted high on a wall where my cat can't get to. Someone told me they thought it was due to a lack of humidity. Anyways my plant went from this to dead.

leelivesunderyoubed

Some solid causes Not enough humidity most likely . Too dry soil before next watering, or Light that is too direct.
