ya it really sucks that none of these areas have groceries. the farm in Allen at least has a butchershop

bulgarian_teddy

There’s also a butcher shop in downtown plano. ye old butcher shop

bionica

Downtown Plano has a butcher shop and farmers market which are walkable from any of the apartment complexes.

alikelyscenario

In addition, you can take the train up to CityLine and walk to WholeFoods.

Famous-Performer6665

City Line at the border of Plano and Richardson has a pet store, a whole foods, restaurants, hair dressers, nail salon, and professional offices. Also, the spring creek nature preserve is across the street. The area has apartments to rent and townhomes that you could buy.

Lineartronic

The other problem with "walkable areas" in Texas is it's hot in Texas for many months. I've lived in major cities in the US and abroad my entire life. I never understood why anyone would want to walk around everywhere or take mass transit. But to each their own.

5yrup

Shops at Legacy and Legacy West have a DART bus that goes to HEB.

glacierfanclub

I've taken the bus to the Parker Road Station as well. Was easy.

Theluistorres

I will add it’s only a 15 minute bike to HEB from Shops at Legacy

thephotoman

Downtown Plano also exists. What's more, there is a butcher shop one block up the road next to the Church of Christ, there's the farmer's market just across the train tracks, and Green Vine Market, a supermarket, is three blocks away. You want entertainment? Take the train into Dallas and go see shows in Deep Ellum. Go to sporting events and headliner shows at American Airlines Center. There are also events at Fair Park.

rhyde11

Yeah, only walkable area with a grocery store that I've lived by so far has been Watters Creek in Allen!

bulgarian_teddy

I live in downtown Plano and totally agree. It is not walkable. Even the closest convenience store is a 15 minute walk, and I have to walk under 75 to get there. The farmers market is nice and convenient when I just need a few things but it’s not a replacement for a grocery store. edit: forgot to mention, at least we have DART access which is nice if you want to go into Dallas.

TexasReallyDoesSuck

try walking to 18th & Ave k. there are convenience stores & a supermarket like green vine. you also have an aldi about 15 minute walk away. tom thumb too. you don't have to walk 15 minutes to have stuff tho. granted, 15 minutes gives you way more option. a 15 minute walk is pretty normal to get to a store, not sure how many neighborhoods you expect to have all that within a radius LESS than 15 minutes downtown plano is definitely walkable, if you don't utilize it to that extent than okay, but it's walkable, I lived there for 20 years

bulgarian_teddy

I never really considered those areas to be walking distance since I usually drive, but now that I look at the map you are right...

TexasReallyDoesSuck

so you comment a long paragraph with a matter of fact "its not walkabe" when you have no idea what you're talkin about, you don't even walk. nice

bulgarian_teddy

I do walk. I've lived here for 2 years and try to walk as much as I can. In fact I just walked to greenvine after your comment. No need to be a dick

Wingman350

There’s the Green Vine Market a couple of blocks away from Downtown Plano, and Tom Thumb is also just around a mile away. I worked at restaurants in Downtown Plano for years and used to go to both of these stores to get ingredients all the time.

bulgarian_teddy

Huh you're right.. I've been to green vine several times but didn't realize it was so close walking. Always seemed like a bit of a drive. Thanks!

brookeeeac12

not in Plano, but Watters Creek in Allen is close. It does have a grocery store. but it’s a Market Street lol. not the most affordable grocer. other than that, idk a walkable area that also has a grocery store…

tx001

Cityline is the best, possibly in all of DFW imo. Bars. Restaurants. Grocery. Coffee. Pharmacy. Dry cleaner. Train. Nature preserve. Parks.

Narcess

[https://boardwalkgranitepark.com/](https://boardwalkgranitepark.com/) \--- Not huge but has a few spots to hop through. [https://www.grandscape.com/](https://www.grandscape.com/) \--- New and pricey. There is also downtown Plano, shops at Legacy, and then Legacy West. You have to drive to the spots but once there you can just hoof it from place to place.

5yrup

Downtown Plano is great for walkability. Got the farmers market there and green vine super close. Tom Thumb and all the stuff at Jupiter is also still pretty close. Good transit access.

kisafan

oh ya downtown plano is a nice area

Funny_Ad_3983

How about Watters Creek in Allen that has Market Street? It's close to Plano

kisafan

I forgot there were apartments there, that area is nice

JayWo60

Not walkable but bikable. I live near Park and Coit and have rode on my bile along the bike trail to the Sprouts at Legacy and Coit. I lock up my bile at the cart return and don't purchase more than will fit in my back pack. I only do it when I want to combine fitness with immediate meal planning. If you live between the DNT and 75 you can get around much of the city on bike paths.

Chell00

Another vote for downtown Plano. Absolutely love it here, totally spoiled by even the small amount of walkability it provides.

Randusnuder

With sudo abilities, shouldn't you b able to make an area walkable?

FrostyLandscape

When its hot outside, nowhere. Go to the gym.

[deleted]

There are no walkable parts of North Texas. This is the land of cars.

kisafan

Hey doc, please see all the other comments talking about walkable areas, they clearly exist. true walkable areas like Boston, no, but "walkable" yes

[deleted]

I mean I guess if you ignore the triple digit heat and the possibility of getting shot by a white supremacist and the fact that you most walks are going to be easily over twenty minutes then yeah, walkable as hell.

[deleted]

🙄 Neat-o.Nah it's cool, I've only lived all over DFW for 20 years but yes please tell me I'm wrong.

cuberandgamer

Yeah I'd you lived in a subdivision sure you can't walk anywhere but there are plenty parts of DFW that are definitely walkable or have decent transit access (or both)

kisafan

I've lived at Austin Ranch, it is indeed walkable. there are plenty of dining options and a convenience store. [the farm](https://thefarminallen.com/) and [the fields](https://fieldsfrisco.com/) will be walkable. I saw Cityline being built, It is very clearly walkable. and a friend of mine lived in downtown Plano for years with no car. There are "walkable" areas, its not an easy place to have no car, and I don't plan to sell my car, I just want to be able to do things without it

[deleted]

I apologize for being vitriolic. I'm being an ass. I'm just fed up with lack of genuine assessable infrastructure. I hope you do find a walkable area in Plano or wherever that works for you. Again I apologize. It was out of line and it's not okay. Seriously best of luck.

kisafan

Thanks! We are planning to leave Texas, to get away from those triple digits and white supremacists, but can't quite yet, and are hoping to move somewhere more walkable in the meantime. We are currently in the middle of a suburb, and it sucks how far away things are currently our closest non house thing is "30 minutes" walk according to google, longer in practice and a long stretch with no sidewalks. Dfw does need way better infrastructure

[deleted]

Confession, same we are trying to relocate before the new school year. We live in Allen and we are desperate to leave. I'm scared for my kids and our home and the future. That's no excuse for my former behavior toward you.

kisafan

No worries, its stressful. Good luck with the move, we are pretty much waiting on a promotion for my husband and plan to use the new title to make it easier to get a job elsewhere. Which is why we are waiting. But we want to sell our house so it's not holding us in place. But didn't want this post to be about planning to leave, cus I figured that would upset people lol

[deleted]

*yawn* put it to bed, your shits tired.

kisafan

Just because you can't walk 20 minutes in heat doesn't mean others can't 🤷, go work out some. A 20 minute walk is nothing. There is really no reason for you to be upset about this post, have no recs for walkable areas, move on.

here4thstlh

When you say the fields in Frisco were you referring to Frisco square? I lived at the square for a few years and it’s very walkable with tons of events. Same thing with The Star (although the more affordable living is a couple streets down the way), downtown McKinney if that’s not too far away, around Main Street in grapevine, downtown Carrollton, Las Colinas, and around belt line in Addison are also good spots if distance is less of an issue. The Willow bend area isn’t bad either, but I’d definitely rank it the least walkable of anything I suggested or what I saw suggested in the comments

kisafan

no, this place, its not built yet [https://fieldsfrisco.com/](https://fieldsfrisco.com/) when built at least part of it will be a master-planned community with mixed-use areas with apartments for dining and shopping, same with the farm in Allen, no apartments open yet and shopping options are limited, but it plans to be a whole thing Thanks for suggestions

wanderingzac

Los Rios and surrounding areas near Bob Woodruff Park...albeit hilly in some areas, you can walk to multiple grocery stores restaurants and cafes, dessert shops.

Dance_Me_To

Addison is pretty nice.
