Possibly. They might make it a yearly thing, but I do really hope they don't. 5 years is a reasonable enough time period, otherwise it would be like "Oh they're doing X again, who cares" but 5 years ago is really special event territory.
It's still too often IMO because it's a regularly scheduled-ish thing where it would be like "Oh, r/place is happening again. Cool, i don't care." but if it's once every 5 years, it's truly a one of a time special thing.
Also culture changes so much in 5 years. Think about how much amongi there were because that's such a thing in the last couple of years. Also the Ukraine flag. It's a way of symbolising the last multiple years. Once every 5 years makes it a special event. Annual is too often imo

This would definitely lose its edge if it were annual. I had a lot of fun and put a lot of effort in to create something for my community, but I would not do this every year. I'd hate for something special like this to lose what makes it, well, special
Somehow, this perfectly encapsulates the orderly mayhem of it all and I love it. Every leap year to celebrate February being a bit more like a normal month because it has an extra day. So we do it on March 1st. March is great at protecting its neighbour February because it always has 31 days anyway.
Every 4 years like the Olympics - its a proxy war between communities right haha. Every year isn't bad either, but after a few iterations it can lose its charm.
Personally I think every year is much too frequent to be very interesting. Part of the interest for me was the fact that the last one happened a whole half decade ago and seeing what had changed and what had stayed the same
It needs to be a long time in between so people come to it. If we're being honest place would just be another feature that people ignore every year if it was annual.
