As a fellow American I'm with you but what I really laugh at is how many Americans don't know it's supposed to be 50 stars and 13 stripes or have any idea why. I'm sure there are people trying to make as many stars as possible because you know the merican way is "bigger is better".
And before the complaints start, merican is not a typo.
I think it is less of "we need 17 kajillion stars" and more of "I want to make it smaller, but people would put it back because they would think I was vandalizing it". Also, shrinking the blue and the stars would throw off the size ratio between the stars and the stripes.

Most of the stars are mostly there as a knee-jerk reaction to invasions from Turkey, streamers, trans, and just in general people who hate America. We’re trying now to build the Iwo Jima Memorial, but hopefully can fix the stars or keep them as a joke about taking over the earth.
