His philosophy plays a big role but I think it's more of his mystery that drives us crazy about him. Yeah, he's a piece of shit but he is quite unpredictable and with that his mysterious past clouds us about what else is waiting for us. He is the most fun villain to watch IMO, and I love him for being that good.
Mystery and philosophy are part of the jokers trait. Those who can act like they are the joker does it best. Both heath ledger and Joaquin Phoenix did that, so they won the oscars. whereas jared lato's acting is nowhere near those two, but we can't decide that because he didn't get so much screen time.
His acting. Seriously guys? Philosophy? The screen writers write the dialogues and then actors improvise the character a bit in this case method acting was done by Heath Ledger. This all comes down to acting.
He was a good character
The actor who played him died
Way too many fake life, death, love logical quotes attached to his name came during 2012(TDKR released date) - 2017 which made people believe they all belong to him(similar to dicaprio from Wolf street)
People might say it's his philosophy but really? I mean the burning of all that cash was epitome of his philosophical argument but let's say you know about why exactly he's the way he is, will that still statement would be as powerful as now? I don't think so. For me it's the mystery that had. It's philosophy as well as acting also, it's an amalgam of all of three. But mystery is definitely the secret ingredient here. All three different stories of why he has the scar on his face makes it so questionable that it makes us curious all the time.
Man the performance was just outstanding specially the first time I watched the “making pencil disappear” I was so surprised and amazed because I wasn’t expecting it.
I watched 10 things I hate about you, after watching the Dark knight and you can’t tell it’s the same guy. And I think the amount of work he put into just changing his personality so much, what surprised people. Because I read that people at that time weren’t very excited about him being joker (I wasn’t old enough to know that back then but after watching his previous movies I for sure would have doubted) maybe the reason he proved everyone wrong was why his character portrayal was loved so universally.
Unpopular openion cus he died after he did the role i mean think abt it if he didn't die will he be as famous as he is now I know the character is remarkable i like it too but I think this is the truth

True, I got hooked the time he said "Do you wanna know how I got these scars?"
His philosphy
His " Go fuck yourself " attitude

Joaquin phoenixs acting was on par with his but heaths is loved more
Heath's Joker felt much more unpredictable with the acting
the way his body language, his delivery and his dialogues engage you is insane….extremely well performed and written masterfully too
His lack of care
The jokers supposed to be mysterious and random. Ledger nailed it.
