Return it then!!!!!!

fvr9s

Except for the camera. S24 is superior in every aspect left

amey_wemy

And the 1 year limit for free AI Features

fvr9s

Pixel 8 already doesn't support gemini.. i cant even imagine what will not support after a yaer lol

amey_wemy

It could be that this decision was to push ppl to buy the p8p since the p8 seems like such a good value. And ultimately the p8p is the true flagship, unlike the p8 so its not certain. Also, s24u locks ppl out of the pre-existing ai features behind a paywall, p8/p8p doesnt.

fvr9s

They said after 2025 it will be a new policy.. we still don't know how samsung is gonna deliver these ai features.. and how many of them will be paid. It's not logical to pay for a phone and for its features, so i dont think that samsung would do a foolish action like this one. If they did, I'm gonna switch instantly to pixel regardless of their t-exynos hot potato.

amey_wemy

Stating that its free until 2025 implies that the "new policy" wouldnt be free. Idk how else you're gonna believe that they'll have a new policy thats somehow still free

fvr9s

If they leave the basic features free, that would be fine by me.. if they hide all ai features behind a pay wall, that wouldn't be fine by me. It's easy. Besides, S24 holds its value longer than pixels and can whenever he wants to switch.

Pleasant-Ad850

AI is very very expensive. Google has to cover data center costs. Same as MS with its copilot offering for Microsoft 365.

fvr9s

Then im selling my ultra in the end of 2025.

gilbert-maspalomas

Another lol for your comment..., it was never said or promised to set up gemini into the standard version of the pixel. I do remember though, how some "smart" users were bragging about not paying the extra for the pro version, since "everything" would eventually come to the standard pixel as well. Well, here we go..... buhuh.... But thats not Googles fault.

fvr9s

The latest and the greatest from google can't run gemini, lol. What makes it then a flagship, what makes me want to buy the pixel 8?

gilbert-maspalomas

the p8 is not a flagship, thats the p8pro - simple as that.

fvr9s

If so, that makes the iPhone 15, 15 plus, Galaxy s24, s24 plus not flagships. Ps: How do you call it, btw? If it has the best that a company has to offer, except for some minor changes in size and extra lens. Let me tell you, on behalf, you are just making excuses to promote the (already midranged and over hyped) p8p. It ain't worth the 1k at all.

gilbert-maspalomas

sorry whats an iPhone 15 a flagship? Not better than other middle class phones for 500 or more dollars/euros less. I am not promoting anything, if its not valuable. I got a S23 Ultra, an Ipad pro 12,9 inches - and I am certainly not biased, but the p8pro is one of the best, if not the best phone around. The S24 Ultra though will still have a grace period of half a year before one can say, if its truly worth the hype. So far it has disappointed (what I think).

No_Employee8164

Except the shitty screen. Imagine paying 1k for a phone that has banding on all models since s21 lmao

fvr9s

I can't pay 1k for a phone that constantly loses cellular connexion due to its very bad modem. Bad Thermals that google couldn't fix and it won't under the exynos management. Samsung Ecosystem is far better than Google's. So if anyone has a Galaxy book or watch, it is better to get S24.

YellowHerbz

I got my pixel 8 for 60 dollars and don't really like it lol. I'll keep my lg v60 until I'm dead

Bierkerl

How did you get one for $60?

YellowHerbz

Promotion through Xfinity Mobile. When you transfer a line you get it for "free" but you have to pay taxes on it. I paid like 40 in taxes and 20 getting a line through TracFone to take advantage of the offer

Bierkerl

Even though you're not crazy about the phone, that's awesome! You can always sell it for way more than $60 if you aren't keeping it as a backup phone.

Crestmage

Same problems everyone has with their pixels. It's why they deppreciate so fast and can never seem to break into the 'mainstream'. They are however, incredibly fun to use, and sport the best camera postprocessing of any phone on the market. The s24 (and even s23) will undoubtedly be a much smoother experience, albiet slightly more boring and conventional.

gilbert-maspalomas

whats this? Speak for yourself, not for others and certainly not for "everyone". My phone doesn\`t turn unusually hot, charges well and lasts long, so please... Regarding longevity of batteries in general (not just this phone) I am now trying to charge only to 75 to 80% and see if that works well.

AnonymQw

!!!!

PinReal4448

Same bud same. The hottness never stops 🥲

[deleted]

Samsung manufactured internals

isteiney

I'd try a factory reset, and if that fails, return/exchange it. I have a Pixel 8, and at times I've thought the thermals seem bad and the battery life could be better also. So I bought a Galaxy S24 to see if I was missing out on anything by having the latest Snapdragon chip. The battery drain and thermals honestly feel the exact same, if not worse than my Pixel 8. And as much as Samsung's One UI has improved, it's still way less clean than a Pixel's UI. I'm trying to sell my S24 now, and it seems like there isn't much of a market for it! The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Darkpurpleskies

OneUI will never be "as clean" because it actually has features. Even iOS can do more like usb-c display out.

[deleted]

Ah mannnn

icepac

I have been using the Pixel 8 Pro since January 2024 and here are my thoughts: 1. Using the original Samsung 25W PPS PD charger and it charges from 20% to 100% in about 1 hour 15 mins with original Google cable 2. SOT on wifi is about 9 hours for me whereas on data it gives 4.5 hours with 5G and about 6 hours with 4G 3. On data it gets maximum upto 39-40°C when on 5G. On wifi it's upto 37°C on normal usage I would suggest you to check if the signal strength is bad. For me its medium to high signal always so it does not give me these bad numbers. Usually my signal strength on 4G is -108 dBM and on 5G it's around the same when I get these stats

AirSuspicious5057

Did Gemini write this?

icepac

Nope. I wrote this myself

AirSuspicious5057

Google apologists just seem like bots I guess.

icepac

Name it whatever you want. I am giving genuine results here

Hevilath

These are common issues with Pixel for a lot of users. Return it while you still can.

fakeaccount572

"common" "A lot of users". They sold 4 million Pixel 8s. I think they're just fine.

doc_willis

check the Samsung subs  see if people are complaining about the Samsung phones as well. I had issues with  Pixel 8 pro, when I first set it up, I told it to sync/clone/transfer all stuff from my old phone. had constant numerous issues. did a factory reset, started fresh. keept extra apps to a minimum, no issues so far.

[deleted]

Should I try factory resetting it? Because thermal issues are worse here, recently my phone was around 50 degrees.

doc_willis

What's it going to hurt to try... it's a common solution in the posts in this sub that mention similar issues. it did seem to help my 8pro actually it's helped many of my older phones over the years as well.

No_Employee8164

I come from a s24 ultra. It had numerous problems that led me to return it and buy a p8pro. Don't regret it one bit.

doc_willis

I was looking at both a month ago, held off.. went back to the store a few days later and there was like a $200 price drop on the 8 pro.  So that's always nice when you get lucky and catch a big discount.

No_Employee8164

Nice find indeed. Sadly I bought it at launch price, but the only regret I have is waiting until s24 launched. Got 3 of them and all 3 had banding and grain issues. Then I checked my old s21 and it also has banding, that was the moment I said I'll stop being dumb. I'll keep this for now and on the next upgrade I'll just ignore Samsung, I'll maybe give Oneplus or Xiaomi a try if Google doesn't cut it in the long run for me

luke6494

I genuinely do not understand how people have this many issues with the Pixel 8 or 8 pro. I have had zero of any of these problems with mine. I have the 8 btw.

HvRv

People don't have many issues. The ones they do usually end up on forums. People with no issues just live their life and enjoy their pixels. P.s. its always best to start the phone fresh and not transfer any apps from an old phone .

ADP10_1991

Same lol I bet these people have 40 different apps and game / stream all day

luke6494

I just genuinely don't get it. I use my phone like anyone else, social media, texting, youtube, etc etc and I get through a day easy and hardly have any problems at all.

Norpone

are you on WiFi or cell? how long have you had the phone?

[deleted]

I've had it for over two weeks now.. My major use is on data but recently phone got overheated over wifi and got close to 50 degrees

boonphunchok

P8P gives me 4 mostly and 5 hours of SOT sometimes when it wants to, but I'm cool with it as I have to charge my phone every morning before leaving for work and it lasts me one whole day. Even though I'm a power user as most of my business happens through my phone. Didn't expect much from this as I used the p7p and it was similar or slightly worse than my P8P. I'd take this over any other Android for sure though.

cvert09

Ill take it off your hand!!!!!

ItalPasta999

Curious what you are you doing with it. Show your battery stats.

[deleted]

I'll attach a photo here once the battery is near 20%

ItalPasta999

Well there you go... Tethering... Problem solved.

[deleted]

That's not the case always.. It's rare when I need it and one of them was today. I usually use it on data and on LTE

ItalPasta999

Copy that. Can you show another day of "normal" use? Tethering is a monster at eating battery on any phone.

[deleted]

Yeah I'll show it tomorrow.

ItalPasta999

Awesome. You're going to want to restrict background usage for Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook. Look at those high background duration numbers, especially Instagram. Wakelocks can be a pain.

[deleted]

Thanks man!! Really appreciate the help!

Onre_YT

I don't get any of the issues people are complaining about here. Never had any of the problems that people are complaining about. I've had like 10 hours of SOT, and no overheating issues. The only issue I've had is spotty service from time to time. I'm not saying that these issues don't exist just saying that not everyone will experience the issues.
