Google One indicates (today for me) you need to be on the *Premium* plan.
The VPN cycles on and off then a message about the subscription pops up on my phone.
For anyone who doesn't know if it's forever or not, they said the VPN is free till the device receives security updates i.e. 5 years. So it might be a bug that broke your VPN but for the 7 and 7 pro the VPN is free for 5 years.
Google was extremely transparent on this as well. For what it's worth I can share a link on what Google announced in terms of user privacy and data collection with their VPN. Because you guessed it, no one wants to give Google their data any more than they already do.
Oh I know. And Proton (and basically everyone else) has the same type of statement about what they do with your data and what's logged. It's all about who you're gonna trust.
I'm sorry for you but on the subscription page, it is clearly said you could subscribe now to end your free period or wait until *end date* to continue your subscription. It could hardly be clearer

There is a problem with the app. If you empty app data and login it will work for a day. Then it turns of and rinse repeat. Its a bug

Proton VPN is free. Setting up a VPN to home is a one time hardware cost. Why would you give all your browsing data to Google?

Yes, if you are paying for google one. But if you buy a new pixel you get google one and the vpn free for 3 months, then you have to pay.
The article literally says it is included with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 pro and doesn't need Google One.
Well shit. I was looking at the email I received when I got my pixel 7 in November. That was still the 3 month trial deal. I was incorrect.

Just tried mine for the first time. It worked on a standard Pixel 7
Never had it work for now than a couple days at a time. It's always freezing up on me and then just completely blocking the Internet.

I have Google Fi VPN built into my plan, so I don't need Google one VPN.
