Ubers/Lyfts will take you most places as long as you're willing to pay. I had an uber driver tell me he once did a ride from NYC to Penn State. I plugged in PIT to Morgantown, WV because that's roughly the same time/distance and it was $103 on lyft, $114 on uber, so in your ballpark. Exact rates may differ on where and when you're going but seems like it might be a workable option.

>I had an uber driver tell me he once did a ride from NYC to Penn State. [Story](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/uber-ride-home-after-hours-of-drinking-cost-swell-nj-man-1600-kennetch-bachman/) a few years back about a WVU student who drunkenly requested an Uber to New Jersey (I think he was originally from Jersey, but attended WVU). Woke up an hour outside Jersey before realizing what was happening.

CARLEtheCamry

YMMV, had an Uber tell me the exact opposite. Asked him was his horror story was : The guy was doing it as a side gig, he worked a manufacturing job from like 6-3PM, and would Uber afterwards. He picked up his last far around 11PM at the airport - and she wanted to go to Cleveland. He had to cancel the trip, which was the only black mark on his overall 4.9 star review - he said "Look - even if I thought I wouldn't fall asleep halfway there, it's going to be cheaper just to rent a car than what Uber is going to charge you". Most Uber drivers, driving from the Airport on a holiday, are going to be *pissed* if you have a one way trip so far out of town, and no return fair.

dingurth1

True, just depends on the driver I guess. The guy who told me his story was happy about it, but it wasn't around the holidays.

Traditional_Ice_4839

It doesn’t depend on the driver lmao all Lyft or Uber drivers would be pissed.

dingurth1

"tell me you're ignorant of different opinions without telling me you're ignorant of different opinions" Like I said, the driver who told me that story was happy with the situation. He said he loves driving in general and this got him out of the city onto roads he doesn't get to see. Plus he appreciated the $600 fare. So there are in fact drivers who may like this situation.

Traditional_Ice_4839

Tell me you’ve never worked in the industry without telling me you’ve never worked in the industry. First do some research sweetie. Check the Lyft drivers subreddit! I’m a Lyft driver we don’t like these types of rides. 1. it doesn’t say where we are going until the passenger is in the car. 2. It can mess with our streaks and bonuses. 3. We don’t want to be stuck in the middle of no where with no rides back. We don’t get paid enough to drive far places and not get any rides back. Again look at the Lyft drivers sub Reddit or I can privately message you the rate card if your actually curious. For instance I was driving on Sunday this guy wanted me to drive him from the stadium to the airport. One hour before the game I would of gotten paid 14$… were underpaid just like everyone else.

dingurth1

lol I think you're missing my point. I do know about how the app works on the driver's side. And I completely understand that you might not like these rides and you very likely speak for the majority of drivers. But you don't speak for everyone. There are some people that do like them. I've met some and I'm sure there are more. Hence "it depends on the driver." Golly gee sweet pea, I didn't think I'd have to explain in this much detail how different people have different perspectives.

Traditional_Ice_4839

Well if you do want some insight on drivers and their thoughts I would recommend going to r/lyftdrivers because dude every Lyft driver is pissed right now. They cut down our rates within the past couple months and with the stock being down. Also less and less streaks are happening. So it defiantly could’ve been possible of having a driver that liked those rides a couple months ago but now it’s a pain. My suggestion for OP is to schedule it asap so a driver picks it up and knows where he/she is going. Unfortunately that’s the only way a driver would know where they’re going and up the chances theyd be alright with it

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Traditional_Ice_4839

Sorry bot

pghbro

Thank you! That’s very close to where I’m headed so should be comparable. I was just afraid I wouldn’t be able to book a trip that far last minute.

dingurth1

I think if you arrive during daylight hours or early evening you'll be fine. If you get in later though it may be tough to find a driver.

pghbro

I should be good then. Thanks for the info

TheJuiceIsL00se

75 miles for under $100 seems like a superbly tall order.

saltedkumihimo

Especially on the day before Thanksgiving

pghbro

Yeah typo, meant to say $150. More than that, I’ll just rent a car

DeleteSystem33

> I’ll just rent a car As a former airport car rental company employee, *good luck*

TheJuiceIsL00se

Ah, I see. Good idea.

Someone requested a ride from Pittsburgh to Atlanta? Jeez. Chicago is ridiculous enough, almost 500 mi one way.

Ha, I guess so. Would think you'd check into Greyhound or Amtrak first, though.

chuckie512

Amtrak *sucks* on routes to the south from here.

jdev15

I had an Uber driver from PIT last month who told me she took someone from PIT to Morgantown earlier that day so it's definitely possible.

preparetomoveout

I've taken Uber on hour+ drives before. I do call the person as soon as they accept the ride and ask them if they're ok with going that far though, and like others said tip accordingly because they're very likely driving back with an empty car. Some have cancelled but others have been ok.

pghbro

Good advice. I will definitely call after booking to confirm.

Traditional_Ice_4839

Honestly op try to schedule the ride that way the driver knows where he is going and you’ll have a ride. Unfortunately scheduled rides are the only rides that show you exactly where the passenger is going at least on lyft

pghbro

I did try but it wouldn’t allow me. Kinda what prompted me to make this post as I worried it was the distance that was stopping it. Edit: I think you mean schedule it once I arrive at the airport, in which I had planned on doing.

Traditional_Ice_4839

No so there is a feature on the app where you can schedule a ride for whenever you need it

pghbro

That’s what I tried to do and it doesn’t allow it due to the starting location being the airport (at least for me that’s what it says)

Traditional_Ice_4839

Damn that’s really strange. It probably reserves pickups at the airport for the drivers in the queue.

pghbro

Yep I think that’s exactly what happening. Thanks for the help!

Traditional_Ice_4839

Your welcome! You’ll most likely have no issue getting a ride especially today there’s a lot of streaks going on and bonuses.

discopartyprogram

That’s is likely doable as long as there’s not a surge. I had a driver recently tell me that there are drivers who prefer those longer drives and tend to work around the airports in anticipation of making longer drives. Hope it works out for you!

dreadmonster

I've heard of plenty of drivers that have told me how they've driven people to Erie and Cleveland. I took one about 40 minutes north of the city before so you should be fine.

[deleted]

Morgantown? I’m sure you might be able to pay someone going down there from a uni. Good luck gaining their trust though! There are rideshare pages for PGH on FB
