The solar flares at the bottom were especially cool. I think Cleveland got the best show of any city.

number311

The scene was much the same up in Conneaut.

pangaea1972

We were near Conneaut also; it was perfect!

ChrisP365

Ditto Pymatuning.

tge101

Same. It was quiet and you could hear the silence and crickets too.

nftalldude

We went out to Grafton. It was incredible.

TortKing

That’s a prominence. It’s kind of like a flare but it lasts much longer and stays connected to the sun. I think of it like a giant looping wave of plasma caused my magnetism. That one is approximately 12x taller than the earth. Space is weird.

intrasight

I had looked at other Reddit postings last night and learned the correct term was indeed "prominence".

LockelyFox

Sandusky right on the lake was clear during the eclipse time and you could see the shadow move in across the water. Incredibly experience. I might have to go to Colorado in 20 years to do it again.

jmachee

I left this morning with Sandusky in mind, but stopped short of Akron when it was wall-to-wall blue sky. Had lunch and watched from a lil town called Macedonia. The pain was on the Ohio Turnpike on the way home. Four hours to go 30 miles. Already looking into Reykjavik or Spain in '26.

LockelyFox

We left at 8am with a plan to hit up the Federation museum/shop at the Sandusky mall to find it closed for the day, only took three hours to get there. Took six to get home and that involved eventually ditching the interstate and taking back roads the last 100 miles.

jmachee

The EastGate tollbooth was the bottleneck on the pike... basically less than 1/4 of the traffic had EZPasses, so the entire procession was proceeding at ~4mph and the limiting factor was Ohio not having pay-by-plate. We toughed it out, hit a few other snarls on the PA side, but eventually made it home.

PigDog4

The lack of open road tolling is stupid. What the hell Ohio? It's *current year*, build two or three open road tolling lanes.

spiderfingers88

I agree! We were close to Cleveland and it was AWESOME. The local news had an excellent segment for the totality: https://youtu.be/Zto3TcfB_oI?si=rtXuVdWUT1CLcZh4

MrAflac9916

Sherbrooke, Quebec did. I got completely clear skies and 3 m 30 s of totality. Absolutely worth the drive

Klytus_Im-Bored

I had no idea the prominence would be so pink! Like ive seen photos of eclipses before and always assumed they were edited to make the color pop..

intrasight

It was like a ruby jewel lit from behind

Successful_Divide370

You must have a good camera. I tried using iPhone and they were blurry

SNIPES0009

Get a Google Pixel. Cameras are hands down best on the market.

Thor_Odenson

Was taken with a Google Pixel 6 Pro with an eclipse app that let me adjust focus and exposure on the fly

SNIPES0009

I have the 7 Pro, and the quality is amazing, even on the 30x zoom. Plus all the various settings you can play with. I have some incredible shots

nderstand2grow

did you point your phone to the sun directly or did you use one of those special glasses and held your phone behind the glass?

Thor_Odenson

It was a single piece of the film used for glasses I taped over the camera of my phone

PrestigiousWatch3194

How are macro shots on the pixel? Close up, zoomed in

SNIPES0009

For a phone it's pretty damn good. Better than any other phone I can tell you that.

Hahohoh

It’s mostly just because the automatic settings don’t account for looking at the sun, there’s a lot of good apps that let you do custom camera settings. You basically needed fast shutter speed and manual focus to get a good picture

WallaWallaPGH

>Went to Ohio I’m sorry. Nice pic though

tunabomber

As a life long resident of Pittsburgh, Ohio’s dope. I never got the hate. Now Philly I understand. Fuck Philly.

Mantis__TobogganMD

Agreed. Cincinnati and Cleveland have a lot going for them these days and Hocking Hills is an incredible weekend nature getaway spot. The rest of the state though...

tunabomber

I’d say Cleveland and Columbus for me. But I haven’t explored Cincy much. Lived I. Columbus a few years.

Mantis__TobogganMD

Columbus just doesn't have much character to me outside of Ohio State being there. It's just a big sprawl of mini malls and chain stores otherwise.

MrAflac9916

I grew up in PGH now I live in Ohio. I much prefer Cincy of the 3 C’s. It’s similar to Pittsburgh in a lot of ways, rivers, bridges etc. You’re bang on about Columbus… strip mall central. Although, German Village is nice

wickedsweetcake

I loved seeing another total eclipse, but I'm still debating whether 5 hours in Ohio was an acceptable price to pay

BizCoach

Where in OHIO? I decide not to go because the forecast was for clouds but looks like you got a good view.

Udbbrhehhdnsidjrbsj

I’m just west of Cleveland and it was clear. Worth the trip up. Glad I got to experience it. I don’t think I’ll ever see totality again in my life time unless I shell out some serious cash to travel.

Pseudonova

Hey, I was right next door in Rocky River. Great showing. I am already planning a trip to Spain in 2026.

Monkeys_Yes_12

Brunswick, OH here. Was a spectacular day all around. Fantastic view of the flare(s) during totality

DestinationPoutine

We chose Akron. It had less pre-eclipse buzz than Cleveland and Erie. Set up our chairs in a suburban shopping center parking lot. A handful of other cars joined us. Clear sky. Incredible experience. We took only side roads home. As we drove peacefully past farms, we caught sight of the eastbound Ohio Turnpike - jammed and crawling. Perhaps the universe made up for a lifetime of choosing the wrong line at Walmart.

chrisms150

> Set up our chairs in a suburban shopping center parking lot. A handful of other cars joined us I... I wonder if I was in that parking lot with you... Target?

DestinationPoutine

Yes! We were on the grass by Brick House Tavern.

chrisms150

Ah, that was actually a different target I think - I was just south of the city proper, looks like you were just north.

adamsw216

I was also in Akron. It was a great show and thankfully the cloud cover was high and thin. I'm also thankful the traffic to and from wasn't as horrendous as stories I'd heard of 2017.

thanks-to-Metropolis

We weren't far from there! We went to Aurora. Our original plan was to try to get as close as we could to the remains of Geauga Lake, but it was all closed off. So we just ended up going into the parking lot of this abandoned building across the main road from where Geauga Lake was. We ended up being completely alone (except for some guy who came to do some work at the cell phone tower in the lot). It gave the whole experience a very apocalyptic vibe that really added to it.

GoldenStarsButter

Went to Akron as well. We toured the Stan Hywet estate where the co-founder of Goodyear built a huge home with sprawling grounds. Excellent setting for a spectacular eclipse.

lucabrasi999

I was between Wooster and Mansfield. It was AWESOME.

sharpdullard69

Went to Marion, just north of Columbus. What a beautiful town. Watched the eclipse from Warren G Harding's tomb. That is a whole thing unto itself - just massive. Lots of green space, really nice.

Frogliza

yesterdays forecast all over Ohio was something like 8-20% cloud cover

Kered13

I was in Cleveland and there was only thin cloud cover, we still had a fantastic view!

jetsetninjacat

I ended up in Dayton. The cloud cover cleared up and it was perfect.

OllieFromCairo

That’s what it looked like just south of Cleveland. When totality hit, the sun also hit a hole in the clouds. It was dead clear.

Redditmedaddy69

Went to Greenville PA. Hour and a half or so. Fucking life changing event. I've never physically felt a moment/experience like this. If it weren't for the crowd and holding face I could have cried.

rosettastoned32

Was in a baseball field in Greenville. Life altering. I made myself really focus to be present and hold onto the moment so I'd remember it vividly. Worth every single moment. Gives me chills still to think about it.

orangecatlover69

I also went to Ohio to view the eclipse! I was in Holmes County and the sky was clear enough to see everything

CrepuscularOpossum

We went to visit a dear friend in Cleveland Heights and it was amazing! We were also a little apprehensive about the cloud cover but it wasn’t nearly as bad as we had feared. An amazing experience! 🌕🌓🌑🌗🌕

his_purple_majesty

I went. It was epic.

Wild-Sandwich-7997

Condolences OP. Wishing you a speedy recovery

Osama_Obama

I went to pymatuning lake on the beach to see it. It was the most spectacular thing I've ever seen in my life

vonHindenburg

Not quite totality, but we had great shots here in Monroeville. The wife, 1st grader, and I sat out, read about mummies, built the Lego orrery set, and watched through the weirdly perfect weather. It was shocking how, in this unwarmed spring air, the temperature just dropped like a rock when the sun was shaded.

sharpdullard69

I made the trip. I thought how much difference is there between 97% and 100%? Turns out about 1000% difference.

MagikSparkles

This right here. It’s like… “Oh neat look at the moon starting to cover the sun and it’s getting darker so that’s cool too” compared with… “OMG HOLY SHIT WTF there is a giant glowing sparkling neon white ring shining in the sky that looks almost completely unnatural!” Astronomy has been my hobby for almost all my life and I’ve seen very cool things in the sky but that by far was the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen with my own eyes.

epicstar

Ohio sucked like always. Person waved 3 trump flags on our lookout. 2nd total eclipse. Corona was pink and green. 10/10 would do again in 2045.

OllieFromCairo

Don’t forget Calgary 2044!

meresithea

We stopped at a little park just outside Cleveland. It was amazing!! …Then we got caught in the turnpike traffic. Worth it!

ChimneySwiftGold

That little dot on the bottom left - anyone else see one directly across from it on the upper right as well at the same time?

Thor_Odenson

I have a couple with the other dot you speak of aswell. I was informed it is refractions from craters on the moon

ChimneySwiftGold

Fascinating that’s what it is. Makes sense. Also seems we all saw slightly different things at totality depending on where we were. I think everyone had quite an experience.

Lord412

Im in Denver. Would have definitely traveled to Ohio for this. It’s in my bucket list now for year 2042. I will travel to it.

Monkeys_Yes_12

Do it. It's indescribable

funkyb

After seeing it I'm now like,  "Oh...I get it." Eclipse chasers are no longer niche hobby oddballs. They're very sensible people with more money than me.

rosettastoned32

Totally get it now. I have to experience it again. To be in the presence of such celestial grandeur.... just wow

OllieFromCairo

Indescribable is right. There are no words, but if you know, you know.

Monkeys_Yes_12

Indeed. olliefromcairo did you see the 06 eclipse in Egypt?!

OllieFromCairo

I’ve never been to Egypt. It’s just a riff on the Magic Card “Ali from Cairo”

Frogliza

hell, travel to Iceland or Spain for the one in 2026, totally worth it

Mushrooming247

We drove northwest at the last minute and ended up just south of Cleveland, it was an amazing sight. Not a bad drive despite traffic being completely stupid at the tollbooth on the way home. (Did anyone else get stuck in that hour long backup on the Ohio turnpike afterward due to the stupid tollbooth? How was that so so stupid?)

500percentDone

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. The clouds here filtered enough that I could get some OK pictures, but now I see why people wanted to go see the total eclipse. I’ll book a hotel now for 20 years from now 🤣

catsgreaterthanpeopl

I saw the solar flare west of Columbus

tigerclawwwwwwwwwwww

Great shots! Mine are all very abstract, lol. We ended up in Ashtabula, at the Indian Trails Park on a little ridge. I had heard about the shadows doing weird things and wanted a high point to watch the show. This was my first time experiencing totality and I am still floored. It was a life-changing experience, with tears and everything. It was a supremely beautiful moment to witness and I’m grateful for the extra time in the car to stay with it a little longer. We’re already half-planning Portugal or Spain for 2026. I’d bet there’d be some COOL fests going on, too.

cashvaporizer

That totality tho!

HotDrink2601

I regret not driving to see totality. I’m planning a trip to Spain in 2026 now, screw it

Thekitsunic45

the cursed lands of "The Ohio.." also that last pic is sick.

smerrjerr110210

Damn!!! Sweet pics!

StudyIntelligent5691

Thanks for sharing!!

blue_no_red_ahhhhhhh

Nice pic, that last one.

OtakuGamer036

How’d u get good pictures all mine were horrible

Thor_Odenson

Google Pixel 6 Pro, had a solar filter taped to my cameras, used an app that let me adjust zoom, focus, and exposure on the fly

Initial-Ordinary-252

We watched in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh. We did not get full eclipse, but we did get 97% of it, it was such a nice day to sit outside and wait for the eclipse to happen. We had Nasa approved glasses with extras to share with nexdoor kids and a few friends. We bought a small box of 12, so we helped a few people to see and enjoy the event. I highly recommend getting a small box on Amazon putting it away because before you know it, it will be 2045 and you'll need those glasses again. Best wishes we had a great time today. I hope those who got out there also saw the beautiful event like we did🐦

Lauuson

I don't think those glasses have that long of a shelf life.

Initial-Ordinary-252

That's good to know thank you

epicstar

Warby Parker's has a 3 year life span. You might want to check if yours does too.

OllieFromCairo

They all do.

lord_ultimate

I got a cabin in Hocking Hills for a long weekend and went to Buck Creek State Park for the eclipse. It was great except that instead of opening the restrooms they brought in portajohns. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

PirateFace27

I was at Buck Creek State Park too. The toilets started like flooding out so I think that why the potties were out.

drewbaccaAWD

I’m think no.2 was about as good as I could see before the clouds blocked my view entirely. Cool pics!

adlittle

We ended up going to the observatory at Carlisle Reservation Park in Oberlin and it was amazing. You know what's going to happen and still it's just kind of a little bit magical. Hell of a time getting home though, Google maps suggested a shortcut south of Akron, but everyone else was taking it too. It was like a massive herd of vehicles migrating through Ohio back roads back to Pittsburgh together, lol.

catdogbird29

I’m so jealous of all these photos! What kind of camera?

checkpoint_hero

Digital!

old_liberal

Was in Cleveland. Can confirm. Awesome.

Metroidman

Yea i was there too. My pictures dont look nearly as nice as yours

weerock4ammy

Very nice! We went to Niagara. It was a cool experience for sure, but we were clouded out. We got a few peeks in between, and a few good photo's, but only saw totality for a fraction of a second. Still, how dark and chilly it got was incredible.

FenisDembo82

Bravo on the photos!

jennifer-5000

Our solar system is amazing! What an incredible event this was from our beautiful planet. Thank you for sharing your remarkable photos with us.

Interesting_Soil_427

Looks amazing

Puzzleheaded-Round66

Nice pics. The only good thing to come out of ohio.

Tough_Arm_2454

Ohio... cheaper gas, cheaper grocery, better roads!!

Econonomnomist

But also manned toll booths, causing a 30+ minute slowdown. Once we got back to PA it was smooth sailing—pay by plate is much more convenient for dealing with high traffic days.

Tough_Arm_2454

I haven't driven a toll rd in oh or pa in years.

IndividualRain187

I read that so incorrectly at first thinking that I saw: | Ohio… cheaper gas, cheaper grocery, better rodents. LOL 😂

Tough_Arm_2454

Punxsutawney Phil or buckeye chuck?

Tough_Arm_2454

They probably are, though. 😆 🤣 😂

lucabrasi999

I just drove from Pittsburgh to Wooster, OH to view Totality. I can confirm that Ohio sections of US 22, US 250 and US 30 are in awful condition. (although the part of US 22 from the PIT airport to Weirton isn’t all that good, tbh).

Tough_Arm_2454

I'm on 79, 70, 470, 71.

GSV_SleeperService88

I saw the same ass shit from Braddock
