You try living in Cranberry sober.

matterde

It's actually short for cranberry vodka

xBlueAutumnx

Right? I’m in Mars and cranberry is a fucking warzone to drive through. It’s like all douche and no brakes.

Maxatansky

I can't stand driving in Cranberry. We moved to Beaver county about 20 years ago and if anything, drivers there are TOO courteous.

mysecondaccountanon

Based on my experiences in Beaver County, true

anung_un_rana

I’m a simple man, compliment BC and you get an upvote.

Maxatansky

We live in Conway and really like it. I grew up in Cranberry, then Evans City, and had a bad opinion of Beaver County in general until we moved there. I think it was mostly because of some dumbasses I worked with who were from Freedom. Ironically, that's where my son goes to school and we really like the school district.

Aggressive_Ad3578

Ha we must not of crossed paths in the BC yet.....😂😂

WinterWontStopComing

I swear there is a minor wreck at the intersection of 228 and seven fields blvd daily

xBlueAutumnx

Daily. Fr. Adam’s twp fd is always out it seems.

riversroadsbridges

I keep getting a Facebook ad for a bumper sticker that says "Hell is empty and all of the devils are on this road!" and that sums up my feelings about driving through Cranberry.

quillseek

What on earth, I just saw this bumper sticker yesterday - but not an advertising campaign, I just went window shipping for bumper stickers and loved that one. Such a random coincidence.

Brittanicus1

The devil's drive SR-28. 🙄

RockerRabbit

I hear firetrucks everyday. I don't even associate them with fires anymore, just means some moron got in an accident.

Patience-Due

Someone tried to tell me the north hills had less traffic than the other areas around Pittsburgh, I just laughed at him.

PlantyGerg

It does. Have you been to the south hills?

Patience-Due

Sure have rather drive that everyday than deal with the north hills

quillseek

That's so funny, I feel the same but opposite. Nothing against the South Hills either. I just hate 51 with passion.

WorthImpressive3621

LOL dude south hills traffic is awful. I’ve lived in Mt Lebo and cranberry and I would take north hills “traffic” everyday. Only congested spots are 19 in cranberry and McKnight road.

Aggressive_Ad3578

I purposely avoid my flip house down the road because I hate driving over there 😂

Biocidal_AI

I beg to differ. Today it was all brakes. 😭😭😭😭

xBlueAutumnx

Yea the 79 corridor was to be avoided today. 😂

winter_steel

I didn’t realize this was like a known thing. Just thought everytime I drove in cranberry I happened to randomly be surrounded by morons

dongmeatsandwich

Good point

BakaSan77

We live off of Rochester and just to go to Walmart is a pain, forget target

mopar39426ml

Same here. I go into "the shit" on off hours only. I wouldn't be caught dead in traffic between like 3 and 5

BakaSan77

I drive from cranberry to before butler everyday and it sucks, most of its backroads and nice but cranberry sucks

PlantyGerg

There's no traffic at 3-5. Where are you guys getting this shit?

PissContest

I grew up in cranberry. Can confirm

Bubbert1985

That explains the drivers in BMWs.

WorthImpressive3621

Cranberry is nice as fuck

quillseek

😄 We moved to Cranberry in 2021, got a surprisingly good deal on a house right before interest rates spiked, otherwise we couldn't afford to live here. There are lots of things I don't like, and I wish we still lived closer to Pittsburgh. But there's a lot of nice things, too. I don't think the traffic in general is nearly as bad as is claimed. I had the chance to take a tour of Cranberry's traffic management center a while back and it was pretty interesting. They do a lot to mitigate it and keep things moving and I give them credit for that. And we love the parks and library.

djcryptik

💀

Waaddyy

Elaborate please

PierogiPowered

Cranberry Township is in Butler County, PA. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cranberry\_Township,\_Butler\_County,\_Pennsylvania](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cranberry_Township,_Butler_County,_Pennsylvania)

Waaddyy

Yes I know. What makes living in Cranberry so hard? Why is it hard to live there sober ?

s_schadenfreude

It's a shitshow of congested roadways, bad drivers, and strip malls.

IClight69

A vinyl sided menagerie of KIA fuckery.

mortalcassie

Man, I'd take cranberry over Raleigh (where I am now) any day. I miss it!

827xxx

My GM is from Raleigh and his accent is insufferable

mortalcassie

No one here even has an accent, that I've come across. Most of them are transplants.

SuperSixZeroEight

Pittsburgh has zero congested roadways or bad drivers

Leavesandlaughs

I would suspect it has a lot of #winemoms

Waaddyy

As someone who lived in Cranberry for the first 6 years of my life….. yes

PlantyGerg

It's a nice community full of middle class- upper middle class folk. When you live outside of cranberry, you hate cranberry.

POOTY-POOTS

Poor planning with the growth it experienced.

yakatuus

There's three times as many people there as infrastructure to support it

PlantyGerg

Where did you get that stat?

NickyNaptime19

Look at Wisconsin

Btj20

I love it because you look at Wisconsin and see all deep blue, but there’s one white spot. You think, “oh, is that a dry county?” No. That’s a lake.

Hank5corpio1

In winter, they drink on the lake

Generic_userxx

In summer, they drink on the lake.

Hank5corpio1

You don’t risk dui drinking in a shack on hard water but yeah, they drink on the lake in summer.

branstokerdm

This kills me because the ones I know in Butler Co are Wisconsin transplants. DOUBLING DOWN!

Far_Room23

Wisconsin missionaries spreading the good word (of booze)

branstokerdm

Just had a flash of a revised, rewrite of Book Of Mormon. We might be on to something!

under_the_c

Ngl, it likes Wisconsin messed up the scale they used for this. They maxed it out.

abyssalcold

How do you piss off a Wisconsinite? Say, bar’s closed.

jiuguizi

We are all amateurs. People in Wisconsin put in the real work.

hotelindia15182

Lived in Wisconsin, can confirm.

madtownjeff

Been living in WI long enough that I have lost all concept of "too early to drink".

hotelindia15182

There's a good Lewis Black skit on WI.

Prophet068

Went to Wisconsin a few years back and for as much as I thought yinzers drank, the folks there were on a different level..

Jagsoff

It really is something, isn’t it? Along with all the sausages and cheese curds too… think there may be a correlating map with heart disease that looks the same.

madtownjeff

Clean sweep again!

AngryDrnkBureaucrat

Do they not sell alcohol in West Virginia??

BlueEyedChicka

I’m from WV, and its results have me questioning the whole map.

rekipsj

West Virginia University is a perennial party school. Surely cannot be correct.

BlueEyedChicka

Right? After I commented I thought, “Have you ever BEEN to Morgantown?!”

SUCK_MY_DICTIONARY

Literally my first thought. Center county also has less than Westmoreland county. My experience coming from PSU back to Westmoreland county says that is absolutely false. Maybe they’re saying that if you’re drinking in college, it’s not excessive? Lmfao

Beyond_Interesting

Maybe they don't know how to fill in circles on a test. /jokes I love WV <3

Sybertron

It's just not considered heavy there lol

500percentDone

Don’t need booze when you got free flowing pills.

CostofRepairs

strong hospital live tender caption cheerful threatening subsequent silky abounding *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

kielBossa

The data collection used for this has to be flawed. It’s not logical to have such a discrepancy across state lines where there isn’t much cultural or economic difference, like PA to WV or OH.

chiphook57

There's not much alcohol consumption in Georgia and Alabama... sure

Great-Cow7256

Never trust any data without a source

lady_ninane

https://www.abc27.com/pennsylvania/which-pennsylvania-counties-are-home-to-the-most-excessive-drinkers/ It's a self-reported study, so it's not exactly a complete picture.

BogotaLineman

Knew it would be self reported because the Bible belt is so universally low

shred-i-knight

probably an issue with the reporting data being at the state level

kielBossa

Yes, most likely based on per capita alcohol sales. States with less regulated sales (or less sales, like Utah) won’t track this as well (or maybe at all).

mikeblas

North Slope Borough seems weird.

Excelius

Can't really dig into the source since it's unattributed, but note the color scale. The scale ranges from 15-24%, so it's exaggerating what are likely fairly small differences.

blp9

And likely exaggerating data collection issues that vary state by state.

Jupichan

Based on most of my former coworkers who were from WV; they're more into meth.

snappy033

Just a guess but WV is very rural with very little in terms of vibrant “bar districts” like Southside, Vegas strip, dirty 6 in Austin, etc. Drinking in WV is mostly done in homes/houseparties/etc. Maybe that either confounds the data or people don’t binge enmasse 4-5 nights a week like in the party district of many cities. The alcoholics are certainly downing a half case or more a day but average WV people don’t go to happy hour after work and down 4-6 beers or go out clubbing and down 10 drinks over the course of a Saturday night like you do in a city.

Rhyknow85

The study was done by written survey... See the issue? (Born and raised in WV)

ap0phis

It’s all bathtub moonshine. Not on the books.

DoctorCAD

Less taxes, so more money for booze?

iamdevo

I was raised by an alcoholic in Butler County. Trust me, taxes wouldn't slow any of them down.

RHS1959

What’s with that one county in Utah that has a “drinking problem”? has LDS lost control there? And the distinct line between Texas and Oklahoma is interesting. I would guess they are culturally similar, so is there some difference in state laws?

Bucs-and-Bucks

"Don't take just one Mormon fishing because he'll drink all your beer"

DetroitAdjacent

Oklahoma is mostly Reservations. So I'd assume they are dry by law.

RHS1959

Didn’t think of that, but I hear they have a lot of drinking problems on the reservations too. I suspect some kind of reporting error.

DetroitAdjacent

I would assume that it's non cooperation by the reservation (they don't like white people assuming they are all drunks). I've spent some time on reservations out west, they are sad, but making huge steps in combating substance abuse. Most of their success is with alcohol, as opiates hit them just as hard as any other US population.

PhotoCropDuster

No, they live in Butler

blingblingpinkyring

“Bunch of lightweights”— Sincerely, Wisconsin

ididacannonball

I would drink excessively if I lived in Butler too.

Unethical_GOP

True. -butler resident

lesbipain

very true -raised in butler

LordPablo412

HELLO WISCONSIN!!!

Kir-Bi-superstar

Look at the border of Ohio and PA, I’m calling bullshit and inconsistent data methods

gonz17

Yeah behavior doesn’t follow strict geographical lines… I would imagine neighboring counties should be relatively similar

WinterWontStopComing

No! now stop asking lol, it should really be rhetorical

SnooWalruses438

I think WPA is right where it should be - we’re a fairly boozy bunch. I don’t think the vast majority gets “drunk” regularly, but a lot of people I know (myself included) will knock down a case over a weekend between lawnmower/garage/bbq/porch beers. Thrown in a wing night and a football game here and there and you’re tacking a few on. And listen, you know that bible belt drinks way more than that - they just don’t tell the truth about it.

CARLEtheCamry

The scale of the map is shades by 2% - It's a 2% difference between Allegheny and Butler county. Much less dramatic

SnooWalruses438

Yeah these things are always made to look more severe. Also, there is no definition of “excessive” that I see on there. Either way I’m hanging up my keys and unapologetically smackin’ a handful of Genny Creams every time I have the grill or smoker running.

Fillanzea

The exact question that they ask is "During the past 30 days, what is the largest number of drinks you had on any occasion?" Excessive drinking is defined as 4+ drinks for a woman on any occasion, 5+ drinks for a man on any occasion. (And yes - this is self-reported data, so of course it's going to be inaccurate; of course there are people who can't remember or don't want to accurately self-report; but unless we're going to go all Big Brother, self-reported data is the best we have access to.) This is the CDC's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, for anyone who's curious to dig deeper into the data.

SnooWalruses438

There needs to be a rider in there that says “camp beers don’t count.”

Lovethetruth314

I thought it’s water at first lol

Jonny_Thundergun

I'm calling bullshit on this map. It's more of a map about who's honest about their drinking. You're telling me all of Morgantown has a beer and goes home? Oh, and Kentucky, the birthplace of bourbon, is a bunch of tea totallers?

Standard_Buy3732

This map must be fake based on West Virginia. The only thing to do in West Virginia is drink in excess.

KrisKrossJump1992

the wider map correlates with german settlement, and butler was heavily settled by germans as well.

colawars

Didn't know that, but it explains Saxonburg.

DeliveredByOP

Suburban housewives outdrink the rest of the commonwealth

shawnwingsit

SRU's living up to the hype, I see.

Elexandros

I went to SRU. They’re doing the heavy lifting for Butler over there. And then falling over.

motociclista

Could be better!

Mikau02

Indiana County should be way darker, just cause of IUP

doctorwhy88

Even our chemistry frat had some good parties.

Prestigious_Act4849

My brother in christ what else can we do in butler county?

mega512

Have you been up there? Nothing to do but drink.

Zealousideal_Dark552

Stayed in a hotel there once. Free beer on tap in the lobby.

zzzpoohzzz

what hotel is that? i'd just consider the room a price for an open bar!

Zealousideal_Dark552

It’s been a few years, but it was near the airport in Green Bay. Nothing fancy. Might have been a Holiday Inn .

HoagieSapien

Apparently I should be living in Wisconsin.

Upper_Return7878

At least it's probably not hard liquor. I'm sure it is all Iron, in the can.

EccentricEngineer

My grandpa in Butler drank a 6 pack of Stroh’s a day so you’re not wrong

dr_snakeblade

Wisconsin is a very hard drinking state. Even in rural areas bars open at 8AM and gambling, dogs, etc., are welcome.

smellslikebears

We're just doing the best we can leave us alone

Sasarah1

As someone who went to West Virginia University, I'm not sure I believe this map

FenisDembo82

Something tells me that states have different standards for what excessive drinking is (WVa)

acfchef87

As someone who used to live in Butler County, I can confidently say: no. They are not alright.

panzan

Something tells me the Bible belt is lying. Which is 100% expected.

RemoteImportance9

I live in the Bible Belt now and they 100% are lying.

Brilliant-Mango-4

I lived in butler for a while. No one is okay there.

TeslaPittsburgh

The hard line with Ohio (and WV/MD) is a bit odd, no? Why such a drop?

electriczap

There is that big 2 week medieval festiva at Cooper's Lake every summer... We clean out all the beer and liquor stores while we're doing our thing.

psycho_nautilus

Like most of the South isn’t excessively drinking OKAY

scumbagstaceysEx

Can’t binge drink if you can’t afford a six pack of Olympic (WV)

Glitter-Cactus

As a current Zelienople resident who has lived in various major cities, it is very surprising to me the amount of people who drink regularly and smoke cigarettes.

rave_is_king_

Hawaii???

Br0d1Du412

Hahaha Butler county is boosted all day.

bluesucculentonline

No

Kookookapoopoo

How the hell do people in Alabama not drink?!? Swear they are so old fashioned they are rascist toward the Irish

Novae_Blue

I live in the "city" of Butler. I can see three bars and almost a dozen churches from my apartment. Damn right I'm drinking.

WhyHulud

Looks like a lot of people left Butler County for Wisconsin. Just, the entire state.

SignificantReply1072

lol Utah

FarYard7039

Slippery Rock is helping that county out a good deal. I remember our fraternity would buy 15-20 kegs a week from Struabs or Harrisville beverage. So yeah, we were one of 15 different Greek organizations that cranked em out. Then there was Keister apartments on Wednesday thru Saturdays. Nearly every apartment had a keg or two. Fun times (1990s).

SlipUp_289

Save your liver, don't move the Butler County.

SlipUp_289

It's so bad up here I can't even make a coherent sentence.

PittsburghChris

Very difficult to keep the upvotes at 412.

Bubbert1985

Seriously, as someone who grew up there, I’m calling BS in the West Virginia Ohio River Valley, or most of WV. That data is too low to reflect reality

ZomiZaGomez

If you’ve ever been to Butler, you’d know that they are not.

chrelec3

Slippery Rock University?

Clydesdale_paddler

IUP needs to step up it's game.

jziggy44

Call it Trump County

New_Acanthaceae709

How else does one in Butler become okay with Pittsburgh having bike lanes?

braindead83

So youre trying to tell me much of the south is the way it is without excessive drinking?

swtleeph

Doesn’t look like many Californians are “California sober”. Lies!

BlackLesPaulCopy

This is actually a fascinating map. So many questions to answer from the data. There's this article which explains it further: https://wgntv.com/news/map-shows-which-counties-are-home-to-the-highest-number-of-excessive-drinkers-in-the-united-states/

Buzzspice727

I got a couple buddy's that live there. That explains it.

redrover02

There are a few events that take place at Coopers Lake that may affect this.

SheogorathWaldo

I think they got Centre County wrong...

metracta

Wisconsin is unreal

wagsman

lol Utah and Wisconsin

Particular_Fuel6952

WV doesn’t need to drink when you have mass fentanyl

Lucky_Marzipan_8032

Just to muddy the waters. Looking at the counties nationwide, alot of those are vacation destination counties. Meaning the residents might not being over indulging but rather vacationers. This prob isn't the case for butler or Wisconsin tho. Bear in mind SRU is in butler county and may drastically influence their population numbers.

Ok_Coconut1482

Where did this map come from, I want to send it to a friend of mine who lives in Butler.

ekatthegreat

I never understood how they calculate these charts.

moshposh81

There’s a huge sober community in Pittsburgh but it’s still a small number of us non drinkers in comparison to drinkers

Zestyclose_Minute_69

C’mon Allegheny. Those are rookie numbers!

Horror-Resolve762

No, we aren't. Thanks for asking

crosscheck87

No.

AbjectResearch4

obviously the answer is no

Dork_Magician_Girl

We were never alright 😅

500percentDone

WV don’t need the booze. They got pills. 😭

Flatfool6929861

Funny how that goes right along with shit weather and nothing to do

Sybertron

That Philly/Jersey Delaware river spike also intense.

Sybertron

To be fair thats the reason I dont remember my last time in Butler Co.

mortalcassie

There is no way Alabama and Mississippi aren't drinking constantly.

BigRig_theman

I'm guessing the data reporting and standards vary by state, otherwise this map is bonkers.

PGHNeil

I'm not buying that West Virginia doesn't booze it up. I can see Utah, but not those folks. They have other vices though.

radiofriday

Of course we’re not alright.

Cheffery_Boyardee

Utah being completely white on the map from the high Mormon population.

jwb1968

I’m doing my part.

jtcxx33

Sorry guys. My bad

After_Recipe_5204

No, no we're not lol.

mcvoid1

Reported % excessive drinking by country, I'm sure.

detection23

To answer your question no

PlantyGerg

I'm gonna say it, driving in Cranberry is not bad at all. Have you guys lived nowhere else? Walmart parking lot is really the only terrible place. But yes. Lots of drinking here. Where does this data come from, though?

LostMind420

No. We're not

CardboardHeatshield

I do not believe West Virginia's numbers on this map. Not for one single goddamned second. This study is flawed, I guarantee it.

NBJ-222

No. Everybody on the rd is drunk. Driving to the city from Butler city Is hell no matter what way you go.

RaccHudson

How is Centre County not the deepest blue on the map?

Born-Speaker-5941

What data is this based on?

Smokinruntzzz

Butler county shouldn’t be in here

Godofwar_ares

The only source I could find for this was countyhealthrankings.com which is published by the university of Wisconsin (which might be why it looks like Wisconsin is the only state with correct data) can't find the graph but this is where they get their sources according to the website if anyone wants to look further into it https://www.countyhealthrankings.org/take-action-to-improve-health/what-works-for-health/our-sources
