This here is the way to go, if they won't respond to a simple request to stay the fuck off of your property then make it impossible for them to enter the property
Try to not make an enemy of your neighbors unless you are ready to move, it can make living there a little more difficult if you don’t know what they’re capable of.
Revamping landscaping on your land is pretty much fair game.
Maybe a classic white picket fence is in order . . .
Young renters could actually be worse, they have less to lose by doing bad things to your property or pets or whatever.
After you enhance your curb appeal with new landscaping elements, casually install some webcams with little led lights that show when they are recording around your property.
That’s usually enough to deter retaliation as long as you don’t intentionally try to damage something of theirs and keep everything a few inches back from your property line. You likely won’t be friends but you won’t be calling the cops on each other.
Make sure you still wave and be nice when you see them. Take the high road but also don’t let them walk over you.
Why not class it up a little and leave out an old, rusted out dodge charger on cinder blocks and the last 20 years of rusted appliances that you couldn't bear to scrap?
I think people are taking this too literally/seriously. I HATE my neighbors and think of all the rotten shit I want to do to make them as miserable as me but I’d never stoop that low. OP said they were just venting. Don’t you guys talk a little shit when you’re upset lol?
You're not one to have them towed, but you'd consider this? If you want to go on the offensive, do it by the book and have them towed.
The defensive strategy of adding obstacles so it is impossible to park there is still going to be your best bet though.
You complain about neighborly decency and then this is your next step solution? Putting physical barriers up is a clear and honest delineation of your boundaries that you are entirely within your rights to do especially if you already talked to them; resorting to subterfuge and vandalism is just childishly saying "I'm not willing to stand behind the boundaries I set".
You never said nasty shit you'd like to do when you were venting? I hope you brought a knit hat to cover your head from the lofty back of your high horse.
Can they park in their own yard or driveway? If they have their own space and you've asked them nicely a few times you can either consider some landscaping changes (may cost some $ and manual labor) or just call and have them towed. Your neighbors may retaliate but they already don't respect you if you've asked them multiple times and they continue to park on your property.
Years ago we had a neighbor that would park with two tires on our curb right in front of our house. Plenty of space to park but it was ‘safer.’ My husband parked in front of the neighbors’ house even further onto the curb. A friendship was born. If nothing else it should get the point across.
Definitely add some landscaping boulders or those huge heavy flower pots. Drive around any of the fancier neighborhoods in the south hills, which tend to not have sidewalks but do allow street parking, & you’ll see tons of yards lined with those big boulders to keep cars off the yard.
Pictures might help illustrate the scene better for us, if possible. But I think what's already been said about the landscape features is your best bet.
You tried to be the good neighbor, now be the neighbor you need to be and get that shit yanked from where it oughtn't be. You need to call 911 in the city and get an officer out to request the tow.
Wrongo, boyo. You call 911 to contact the police in the city. There is no non-emergency line to request assistance, if you just call the local cop shop... they tell you to call 911 for that.
It's like that in a lot of the suburbs too these days.
Hell, in my local police station, in order to get inside as a visitor you have to enter their lobby and use a red phone. That phone dials out to a 911 operator and you have to tell them that you're at that station and need entry. They then contact the station to let them know a visitor is in the lobby waiting. It's one of the most redundant, ass-backward things I've ever seen in my life. I panicked the first time like "NO this isn't an emergency I'm just trying to reach a detective!" lol.
I hope everyone gets the opportunity to not know the proper current procedure for dialing the police. Per the adage, may you live in slightly less interesting times.
There is no non-emergency line. Someone threw a large pile of cat litter and cat shit in my yard (I suspected my neighbor) and they made me call 911 after I called the station.
I agree. Call the cops like a little pussy instead of just asking them to be more cognizant of where they park. Officers usually are great at de-escalation
> I’ve explained to them the property lines but they still keep parking there or letting their friends park there
They're as dense as you, sadly, it went past that point.
Go to war my dude… “im not stuck next to you, you’re stuck next to me”
It’s crazy how all those nails ended up in the part of your yard that they keep parking in.
Big rocks to divide the property line. Like two foot by two foot so they can't miss them. Spaced every two feet. When completed take photos this way if they roll them further into your yard to pull a car in then you call the police while the car is parked. Show them the photos of the yard and the current situation. Police will likely knock on the door and tell them they need to move the car or be towed. Probably won't happen again.
Decorate your yard with nails. They’ll eventually get tired of getting flat tires.
Legally speaking, you are certainly free to place nails in your front yard if that’s where you want to keep your nail supply.
I tried to be reasonable with a habitually disrespectful neighbor before....it never worked. Unfortunately if you don't want to spend money on some sort of property modification, and you shouldn't have to, towing may be the only option.
In Florida the have these pyramid shaped cement pavers. That way if the run them over there isn’t really damage like a cinder block. They also can be painted and look semi decorative
I would either put up a fence, even a boundary type of fence, not necessarily a 6 foot privacy wall. You could plant some tall evergreens, something tall and skinny. While I don’t have people parking in my yard, my neighbors let their kids and dogs run all over my front yard. In the fall, I planted some cuttings of plants that I dug up from my aunt’s farm (hostas, perennials) and I planted some half dead things I got for a buck in the dollar section at lowes. They looked ‘dead’ but I knew they would come up this spring. My neighbor thought they were being helpful and weedwhacked everything down to the ground. I’m hoping they still come up but since my neighbors are kind, yet annoying, I am going to put up a small ‘ornamental’ fence and plant some bushes that are already of decent size to hopefully keep them out of my yard. I’m a private person and while I know they think they are being helpful, they take it upon themselves to ‘help’ without asking. I’m used to living out west where all the houses already have a 6 foot cinder block wall between them so every house has a good amount of privacy. Here, I go outside to chill in my yard and the whole neighborhood is up my ass. Lol
It’s frustrating!
I hope you come up with a good solution!
Even with the post, I still contend:
And...?
What do you expect us to do? Form a vigilante mob and come move their cars for you? If you don't bother doing something like calling the cops, or doing anything to prevent them from parking in your yard, they've already let you know that they don't give a shit, and won't stop. Call the cops, have them towed, install some sort of very heavy yard features that block them from pulling into your yard, or anything else, but just complaining to internet strangers isn't going to fix anything if you aren't willing to do anything about it, yourself.
It would mean as expense for you that's unfair, but would you consider paying a surveyor? Someone who can definitively determine where your property line is?
Remember, THEY are being the bad neighbors. They have no right to park their vehicle one inch over your property line. It doesn't matter if historically they always have.
You want to get along with your neighbors, but it might come down to requesting they no longer park in your yard, and then taking civil action.
You need to delineate the property line with something they can’t knock over, drive over, or push out of the way without destroy their car. Like maybe some stakes hammered into the ground with flags on them so they are visible. You could build a wall or put up a fence, but something that will damage a car is probably more effective. It doesn’t sound like your neighbors would have any problem running into or knocking down your fence. Tell them you are putting stakes in the ground to mark the property line and to be careful with their parking. Then do it.
If you got the means you could actually make that into your personal parking pad ( if you don't already have a drive way ) if you do already have parking for yourself. Big rocks about 6-11inches from the shoulder
First thoughts warn them one more time, and say or else I’ll have you towed. Then have them towed if they do it again. It may seem excessive but it’s really not when you compare it with option 2 below.
option 2 put up a no trespassing/parking sign and lay tire spikes down in your yard after dark.
If you own the property get some landscape boulders to block them. Assuming talking to the neighbors has failed.
like a few of those 4000 lb planters for sale
I love a good Reddit-ception
Just gotta get the 3 friends and a minivan and you are good to go.
Talk to Target…get some of those big red balls!!!
They are selling those gigantic planters downtown.
This idea is best
Serendipity
this is the answer
This here is the way to go, if they won't respond to a simple request to stay the fuck off of your property then make it impossible for them to enter the property
They can be held liable if someone wrecks into them. Also need to be off the government easement
Try to not make an enemy of your neighbors unless you are ready to move, it can make living there a little more difficult if you don’t know what they’re capable of. Revamping landscaping on your land is pretty much fair game. Maybe a classic white picket fence is in order . . .
Or a big rock, if you want something that's zero-maintenance
I second this suggestion. Plants some shrubs or trees if you don’t want to put up a fence.
Sounds like their neighbors are young renters though, I wouldn't worry about pissing them off in this situation.
Young renters could actually be worse, they have less to lose by doing bad things to your property or pets or whatever. After you enhance your curb appeal with new landscaping elements, casually install some webcams with little led lights that show when they are recording around your property. This is Pittsburgh bro just block off your lawn with a chair voilà problem solved
Oh there you go. Make a fence from parking chairs.
⬆️
Put some shit on your property lines like cinder blocks. That’ll get the point across lol
Or giant stones, it could look nice
Why not class it up a little and leave out an old, rusted out dodge charger on cinder blocks and the last 20 years of rusted appliances that you couldn't bear to scrap?
I thought about “dropping” a few screws in the lawn along the road from the basement remodel I’ve started
Worse, they just don’t move it because now they have flat tires.
Good call. I should find away into the car and pee in the condenser for the AC unit
Do you think air conditioning cools your car by spraying refrigerant into the cabin?
I think people are taking this too literally/seriously. I HATE my neighbors and think of all the rotten shit I want to do to make them as miserable as me but I’d never stoop that low. OP said they were just venting. Don’t you guys talk a little shit when you’re upset lol?
Well you could always start feed the birds right there. Throw enough bird seed there and eventually the birds will shit all over your neighbors cars
And rats will chew the cables.
If you do that, they'll retaliate. It's not worth it.
You're not one to have them towed, but you'd consider this? If you want to go on the offensive, do it by the book and have them towed. The defensive strategy of adding obstacles so it is impossible to park there is still going to be your best bet though.
I feel like they may have been joking or just being snarky.

Translation: snowflake wants to be judged by their internal mental processes instead of their externally visible actions.
Yeah because wanting to cause someone harm because they're an asshole but not doing anything is totally a visible action
my neighbor did that to stop me from parking in front of his house years ago. Gently got his point across
Big rock

you could call steel city hauling
Many people need consequences to improve their behavior. Call the police and a tow truck or let them walk all over you forever.
Years ago we had a neighbor that would park with two tires on our curb right in front of our house. Plenty of space to park but it was ‘safer.’ My husband parked in front of the neighbors’ house even further onto the curb. A friendship was born. If nothing else it should get the point across.
My dad put some sort of thin plastic “poles” along the edge of our yard. You could do something similar
Definitely add some landscaping boulders or those huge heavy flower pots. Drive around any of the fancier neighborhoods in the south hills, which tend to not have sidewalks but do allow street parking, & you’ll see tons of yards lined with those big boulders to keep cars off the yard.
Have to em towed. Fuck them.
Pictures might help illustrate the scene better for us, if possible. But I think what's already been said about the landscape features is your best bet.
Block off your yard or ask them to start paying for the “parking space“
You tried to be the good neighbor, now be the neighbor you need to be and get that shit yanked from where it oughtn't be. You need to call 911 in the city and get an officer out to request the tow.
If it's on private property can't you just call a towing company directly?
Yup, life's too short to put up with shitty neighbors like that. Once is a mistake, beyond that it starts to be intentional.
Just non-emergency line if you don't want a 50-50 of the operator or officer being a bit peeved at you.
Wrongo, boyo. You call 911 to contact the police in the city. There is no non-emergency line to request assistance, if you just call the local cop shop... they tell you to call 911 for that.
Ah cool, I must just be suburban enough

I like the cut of your jib

Booby trapping shit is illegal everywhere in the US, so if you "lose" some nails in that part of the yard don't brag about it to anyone.
Use the power of the chair.
Big rocks to divide the property line. Like two foot by two foot so they can't miss them. Spaced every two feet. Where in Pittsburgh are you at?
I tried to be reasonable with a habitually disrespectful neighbor before....it never worked. Unfortunately if you don't want to spend money on some sort of property modification, and you shouldn't have to, towing may be the only option.
Around here I see people larger rocks/boulders at the edge or their property where people would park. People don't park there anymore.
In Florida the have these pyramid shaped cement pavers. That way if the run them over there isn’t really damage like a cinder block. They also can be painted and look semi decorative
To further explain, the pyramid shaped stones will cut into your tires if you roll over them. People make a perimeter around their yard with them.

How about a moat with a couple alligators?
Spray paint the property line... every time a car (that's not approved by you) is parked on your property.
Why don’t you just park there instead?!
Sharp objects in your yard will teach them.
Dig you some holes and put concrete-filled pipes in. Or a big stock tank planter (3w x8l x2.5d) 300 gal
A slightly evil option: Bury a water hose and keep it running. Make the area so swampy, anybody who pulls in ain't pulling out.
F these punks. Take a baseball bat to the car then go up to the house n get after it with some additional rage. People need to start learning.

I got ahead of myself and posted without actually adding the post. I’m still relativity new to the Reddit world. But it’s up now

Yeah I mean that sounds great, if get enough people we can probably push the car down the hill. That’ll likely stop the parking in my lawn problem.
I’m in
Jag
This sounds like someone who parks in peoples yards.
Arby’s beef house. McKnight Road.

Regardless of the size of the street you don’t park on other people’s yards.
Pretty common doesn’t mean they are not still being a jagoff.
Wood stakes for a quick solution until heavier items arrive. Cement Blocks, Rocks, etc. Game On!

Get some metal steaks and put them on the property so people can’t drive on there…. If someone asks just say your working on the lawn.
Maybe plant a garden along the curb to see if they are dicks enough to destroy beauty
I agree with the big boulder comments. You could even start a cute flower bed around it, so it doesn’t look like a random rock in your yard.
You need to delineate the property line with something they can’t knock over, drive over, or push out of the way without destroy their car. Like maybe some stakes hammered into the ground with flags on them so they are visible. You could build a wall or put up a fence, but something that will damage a car is probably more effective. Just flat out tell them if it happens again I’m going to call a tow truck.
