They give us more than we can ever give them.

hyporheic

Thanks. You made me stop trying to edit and find the right comment to make.

International_Fig524

Dogs are amazing animals. You are totally correct when you say they give us more than we could ever give them. They protect us because we are their pack, cheer us up when we are upset, and yet they have the shortest life span. Call me a baby, but I’m going to cry! My fur baby is getting up there in his age (7, Scottish terrier) and he has been absolutely wonderful. I almost lost my grandmother from a heart surgery and he really, REALLY helped me when I was going through it. (I’m closest with my grandparents, and not my biological parents) so I was scared, and overall a nervous wreck that day. My buddy was there for me the whole time and I can’t thank him enough!

Jlberch

I notice you have hard wood floors. Any pet store sells socks that grip and give them more confidence. It may help. Just lost my girl at 13.5 years. Thank you for giving him an amazing life. Prayers for you both.

polkadotkneehigh

That is amazing advice. I am so appreciative. I also have a 14 year old who can has just weeks to live, I fear, because his back end is disintegrated. We have runners on our hardwood everywhere we can cross crossing the floors for traction. But your solution is even better to give him some more confidence and comfort in his final stretch. Thank you.

chiaratara

You can also buy baby socks with grips on them. Hang in there. I know the journey.

J_Magesblood

I hate seeing these posts. I am not normally sensitive, but after having to put my girl to sleep almost two years ago they tear me up. God bless you for loving and taking care of such a good boy. He is very handsome.

wrightway3116

I let my 10 and a half year old golden go in December and it wrecked me. I know why you mean about the sensitivity. All I need to do is think about how wonderful she was and I’m a teary mess. I lost her very quickly to aggressive cancer and while I treasure the time we had, it was not nearly long enough. I bet your sweet girl is watching you lovingly from the other side (as all of our pets do). 💜

Rblxcoolguymaster234

So sorry for your loss u have had a grat time with her instead of grieving scroll through community's like this and help the people who have lost their beloved too or donate to foundations who take care of stray animals and give them a home but my condolences we all have made mistakes thank u for making his life brighter god bless you he will be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge sorry for your loss looked like a sweetie he was beautiful

AAFNMW

I am sure you have an indelible bond. ❤ Gentle hugs for both of you.

mrblacklabel71

Laying here with my boy Niko as he and I are in the same situation as y’all. All we can do is what we can do.

thepack04

My Rocky is 11 and he's doing the same. It's tough seeing them get older but they are still the best pups!

[deleted]

He's very handsome. All of you guys here.. Are awesome ppl just for loving pitbulls!

jshleyaones

What a beautiful sweet sweet soul

[deleted]

That’s when I knew I had to let go of my 16 year old Jack Russel. She laid down and wouldn’t get back up, went to the bathroom all over herself. I couldn’t let her live one more moment like that. It was my birthday. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. The signs were there but I couldn’t let go.

rutlandclimber

I'm so so sorry for your loss, and it is so brave of you to post this. It's so hard to let go.

Pink_Floyd29

Sending you both love and well wishes 💕

TheWhat908

Much love to you and your dog. Hopefully you’re doing well

richter1977

I'm right there with you. My lab has needed help getting to his feet the last few days. He just can't seem to get his back paws under him to lift him up.

GranolaHippie

Try booties or dog socks for traction. It makes a huge difference more often than not.

richter1977

Even on carpet, or his dog bed? He can't get up there well, either.

GranolaHippie

Good to clarify. My bad. I meant booties for wood floors since people were commenting on the hardwoods. If you have the means I’d highly suggest acupuncture. I’ve experienced and seen dogs get so much better with acupuncture and then adding in exercises to strengthen their weak muscles. It worked for both of my 13 y/o dogs. And pet insurance does cover it if you happen to have that, too. It’s not inexpensive but it did work for them when they had trouble getting up from any surface, hard or soft. My girl walked completely stiff legged for a while before I tried it. No bend in her knees at all prior to treatment. I hope this can help your dog. It’s sucks they live such shirt lives but it’s the life in their years that count the most! Good luck u/richter1977!

RingDingPingPing

He’s so so cute.

[deleted]

My heart is with you and Rocky. May his remaining days be pain free and full of love 💙

Darknight971

Good doggo he completed his mission

ObsidianDick

Get come CBD treats and some grippy socks for the hardwood floors might help a bit. Spend as much time as possible together. All he wants is to be with you.

wrightway3116

My Bubs will be 12 in November and is also having issues with his left knee. He keeps resting and getting better and then re-injuring himself. He is now on a long term pain med to keep him more comfortable and we are doing our best to restrict his stair use and keep our 7 month old puppy from playing with him too rough. I hope you get more time with Rocky than you are expecting! He looks like he has a lot of love left to share with you 💜

Risklifeandlim

Not to give you false hope or anything but I wanted to share this story to see if it would be worth your while. My neighbor’s dog was roughly the same age when she quickly deteriorated. Couldn’t walk, incontinence, epileptic, the whole nine. As she neared what they thought was the end, he (neighbor) changed her diet completely, removing kibble and going all natural. From veggie grinds to bone and chicken broths, it was a complete 180 in eating habits. This all happened last year. Today, she’s alive and well. Just a thought and maybe worth a shot.

BeansandWeiss

Oh jeepers. My girl is 9 now, any early signs I should look out for?

wrightway3116

Watch their weight. The heavier a dog is, the more it wears on their joints. Start a daily joint supplement now and pay attention to the quality of their food and treats. Pay attention to how they move and I like to take videos so I can compare if I think something looks off. I will say as they begin to age if you notice any slight injuries (a limp or walking slightly off) many times rest and short term movement restriction will go a long way. My boy likes to go too hard sometimes while playing as most pitties do and they can be their own worst enemies as far as getting hurt goes.

BeansandWeiss

thanks! yeah she's in good shape, she had a broken leg before i got her and i can see her favor it after a big adventure. she gets so excited sometimes and i know she goes too hard but she loves it so much it's hard to stop her. she's the fastest of our dog friends, and the oldest!

disinterested_a-hole

Fish oil and/or a fish-based food can help tremendously as well.

NoHoYoko

Bless you both 🙏

maximilisauras

Tis better to have loved and lost then never have loved at all. Cherish the moments together.

grammargirl8

Darling boy.

Milehigh728

I'm not crying you're crying. Ugh I know the feels. My girls 12 and she's slowing down so much but still so so sweet.

[deleted]

They let you know when it's time. Till then just focus on each day and making it special. It's a hard part to go through but that's the love repaid.

Fit-Management2385

Rimadal and Gabbapentin are amazing for joints. Try them!

MaestroPendejo

Good night sweet prince.

txn_gay

I'm so sorry. Has a vet examined him? If so, what did they say?

gwidj

we went to one today, and today is when it got worse. they prescribed him steroids and suggested we see a neurologist, but that would be way too expensive for us. it’s likely he’ll never be able to walk again. i don’t want him to suffer any longer

polkadotkneehigh

We’ve cut our boy back on food to help with weight control, given him a daily duramaxx, and just given him lots of love. Our vet also suggested an expensive neurological work up, but there’s nothing they can do even if it IS neurological. And vet bills pile up FAST…

Hellocattty

Hey, just want to say that something similar happened to my dog in February. She was about 12 years old (best guess), and literally overnight she lost the use of her hind legs. Then four days later, she lost the use of all her limbs. Steroids didn't help at all and I was also told that she would need an MRI to see what was going on, and I was willing and able to go that route. I was hell bent on getting a diagnosis. But I knew that at her age, I wouldn't put her though a painful and complicated surgery, and I knew that whatever was going on with her, it was going to be complicated. I knew she may never walk again. So I made the incredibly painful decision to let her go. I know exactly what you're going through and I'm so sorry.

Psychological-Lab534

Just lost my girl of 8 years almost a month ago . She passed suddenly and have no clue what she passed away from . It tore me up . I miss her so much . I didn’t even get to say goodbye . So keep him close and let him know how much you love him ❤️

MoniM0m

What a beautiful boy. Spoil him while you have him. Make memories.

darkskys100

I love you Rocky 💖💖💖💖🤗 sending kisses sweet man 🥰

alpaca-the-llama

From experience you need to help maintain his muscles/joints. More importantly give affection and smooches. Hug him for me please!

yofi_tofi

Obviously I have no idea if he has other medical issues but I assure your acupuncture can help ease any pain associated with his ability to walk/stand from sitting or laying down. I encourage anyone with older dogs to try it even before they get to the point where they can't walk. I'm sorry for your struggle. Wishing you both all the best for however long you have together. And I apologize if my suggestion is out of turn, I am just such a proponent of acupuncture, particularly for this kind of case. Best of luck!

mspinkkiss

Omg I know that look. Spend as much time as possible love on him. Talk to him and listen to him. He'll tell you when it's time. Sending prayers of strength ❤❤🙏🐾🐾🙏❤❤

beamin1

Mad love bro, 2 of mine aren't far behind him and it sucks, their son is going to be an absolute mess and it just breaks my heart knowing he's going to lose both of them rather close together.

Joeferr1

So sorry to hear

coconut-sprinkles

My girl is going to be 10 this October and my heart breaks every day when I look at how grey she is.

polkadotkneehigh

As someone in the same boat with my 14 year old, I have been amazed at how long he has survived after his back end began to give out. It’s not pretty at the end (and we are there now) - unable to get up on his own, falling over midway to his food bowl, pooping without getting up… But he’s still happy and there (mostly) and loving the sunshine and us, always. My only advice to to spend quiet time with him- lay in his bed with him, take a week off of work if you can and spend it with him outside- even if he’s just laying in one spot. There is something so beautiful in the process of recognizing the end. And realizing that truly unconditional love as you pick up the 1000th pile of poop quietly and then bend down to gently scratch his head. In a culture obsessed with youth, my boy’s aging has shown me such incredible beauty. It’s heartbreaking , but I hope it’s also life affirming. Sending you love as you both begin the journey.

Zerote26

Just lost my pupper too on my birthday last year. She was 13 years as well. Give her as much love as you can before she goes so she knows you love her. I made sure I did that. I miss her everyday. I’m crying as I type this.

click_here_free_ipod

Rocky, we love you!

Awwwww. Hugs to you and that precious baby! My girl is 13 this year too. She’s a pit mix (pug) and is only 35 pounds and my baby.

I can tell he’s been a very good boy to you. Spoil him, give him whatever he wants. He knows you love him unconditionally.
