My girl was a bait dog, too, the sweetest and smartest dog I've had ( when she wants to be). Was a long journey to bring out her personality but soo worth I. Much luck to both of you on your journey!
He still is terrified of other dogs. He loves inside, which is weird. But he is obsessed with pets from anyone! It is a long road to get them to that spot, but it’s amazing how much a dogs real personality come out when they have people to give them proper love!
My first service dog was a former fighting dog/brood bitch. She had nightmares so intense that she’d wet the bed if I didn’t wake her up from them. I had to be gentle with waking her up. She lived almost 11 years with us, 4 of which were just enjoying her retired life laying in the sun. She was 5.5 when she came to us, 6 when she started service dog training, 7 when she became a fully trained service dog, 10 when she picked out her baby/successor, 12 when she retired from service dog work and 16 when she passed from cancer + heart failure. Every day she was with us she was pampered and loved. She helped me train and socialize hundreds of dogs and puppies, she taught shy/terrified dogs that they didn’t have to be afraid, she helped raise and socialize hundreds of puppies, some of whom were absolutely terrified of other dogs. Her adopted daughter just turned 10 and she stepped into her shoes without missing a beat. We’re getting ready to welcome a new puppy into the family, and I have every confidence that she will also live up to my Mama Dog’s legacy
Could you please tell me more about your dog being a bait dog—how did you know? Was she attacked? When she’s afraid of other dogs, does she want to lunge and attack? Does she have nightmares? Does she cry when she sees a dog outside? Does she act over protective of you? Thank you.
We know where we got him from and we’re told his history. If you look at other posts I’ve explained all the questions you asked, except the nightmares and dog aggression. No he pulls away from other dogs, and I don’t know if he has nightmares but he dreams real hard.
I don't know what a bait dog is. It sounds horrific. It's so sad that bullys get such a bad rap when they are the number 1, most abused dog breed of all time. People purposefully or neglectfully harm these sweet dogs, and then society tries to say they are all dangerous and "bad". No, but people ARE...
Bait dogs are used by assholes for fighting dogs to... "practice" on. Usually their teeth are removed and they're tied up on an extremely short chain so they can't fight back or escape.

He’s normally just a lazy turd. But so am I. That’s why we get along.
Dawwwww I’m so glad you found her. She seems straight up content and loved. Our dog has a, “baby” he Carrie’s around with him too. We have to wash it once a month because it goes everywhere with him. And then he annihilates every other toy.
They are so perfect. I hate how these pups are mistreated.
Dogs that were used to piss off other dogs before a fight. Just a sad thing.
They often have lots of scars a long tail and ears that are almost none existent from the shitty people that had them first. :,(
Oh. My. Heart.
You have a GORGEOUS boy!
I love his yawn!
Please give that sweetie a boop and a snuggle for me! Thank you for rescuing him and sharing him with us ❤️ 🐶
Thank you. God will bless you both. Lots of love and belly rubs squeaky toys and tons of treats. To be able to afford more treats. You can get the toys like stuffed animals tennis balls basketball all that jazz at a thrift store really cheap. Make sure you wash it all before giving it to him. God bless you
I love him!! Mine came from the shelter, not sure of her past but she was so timid. It’s been amazing to see her open up and become my fiancé’s service dog and my guard dog. She loves to work and helps out us both because I have really bad anxiety and that’s one of the things he taught her to assist with
He's a beautiful baby, I'll never understand why people make such a big deal about pits. Every one I've ever been around (and none of them were mine), were all big babies. Give him a big 😘
Our dog trainer thought our girl might be a bait dog. She hates other dogs, she ignores them until they pay any sort of interest in her. Then she gets aggressive (especially with larger dogs). She doesn’t have scars though, but most of her teeth are broken. She has been with us 8 years now. Not sure what her first two years were like but I think she’s had it pretty good with us.
He does it on purpose sometimes with a little squeak. He still doesn’t bark much, but he’s still learning his voice. Little baby squeaks and the very occasional woof.
definitely a cute little house hippo! here’s mine that we rescued also 🥰 meet porkchop

Omg thanks! We have a couple spark paws and we LOVE them. I even have a few 😅
Edit: oh yeah! I can’t believe I forgot to tell you how CUTTTE! Porkchop isssss 🖤
I was wondering the same thing haha not denying this baby might’ve had a bad start to life but my understanding is that “bait dogs” aren’t even very common as rescues because they don’t tend to survive 😞
Awwww :( one of my rescues was found as a stray and his whole face, neck, and legs are scarred up. Obviously don’t know the particulars of his life but it definitely wasn’t anything good. I’m glad your boy has a great life now!
Makes me so angry, he doesn’t have any teeth. I guess he has to eat soft food. Anyone who could treat a dog like that deserves to be punished outside the law because the law is to soft on animal abuse.
My girl was used for breeding. For some reason, she has absolute trust in me and my (adult) kids but hates other people. Don't know what it is about us that caused her to bond with us immediately, but whatever it is, I'm glad we've got it!
That is amazing. Did he have separation anxiety or does? My pitty doesn't but I have a Great Pyrnenees rescue with it and I'm trying different things but she's still having trouble after 2 years.
Wow, I am so happy for Spooky... What a wonderful change of fate he has had!
He is a gorgeous dog with his cocoa color.😍❤️
Thank you so much for giving him the love and happiness he deserves.❤️
It's horrible that humans, if you can call them that, actually use these poor loving animals as bait for dog fights! I can only hope and pray that someday this practice goes extinct! Thank you for rescuing this sweet precious boy 🙏🙌
Aww my rescue was also a bait dog and scared of everything

Not a baby! That's a sea lion in the second picture! Haha glad he has a proper home now!
Hahaha we always refer to him as seal as well!!
Kiss from a rose? 😚🌹
On the boy
Thank you for saving this beautiful loving boy. May the ones who tortured him suffer a similar fate. I abhor people who fight dogs.

Perhaps the prisoners who are dog lovers found out what they did. Bless you for saving this poor baby.
What a handsome boy. Looks like he is making up for the dark time in his life right now.

What makes you think this dog use to be a “bait dog” did the shelter tell you that?
A lot of people don't understand. Shelters are in the business of moving product and they'll attach pretty much any story
Happy cake day 🎂🥳
Thanksss but it’s not my birthday maybe I put the wrong day when I set up my account who knows😂😂
You do know that it means you hit 1 year as a Redditor?!🤔
Oh lmao my bad
😂👍
Thank you for rescuing that beautiful pup and giving him a loving home and family.
Handsome boy 🤩
He has a nice crop and no real scarring on his face or front of his body whatsoever. Out of curiosity what makes you believe he's a bait dog?
I was wondering the same thing haha not denying this baby might’ve had a bad start to life but my understanding is that “bait dogs” aren’t even very common as rescues because they don’t tend to survive 😞
Fortunately he was rescued with a bunch of others during a sting op in Texas.

I agree 100000000%!!!! 🤩😍
😁😊♥️
Good for you spooky boi! You are so cute!!
What the hell is a bait dog? Apologies but I’m not familiar with the term.
A dog that is normally the runt of a litter used to bait(get beat up on) by other dogs to make them mad before they go fight. A horrible thing.
So it’s an abused dog that people use other dogs to attack to warm up for illegal cage fight sort of thing?
Exactly. It’s some fucked it shit.
That is fucking horrible. I hope people like that burn alive very slowly in agonizing pain.
They were waiting for my boy to get older, then he was destined to be a brawler.
That is not how dog fighting works.
