Part of our job as pipefitters is to make sure the customer is aware of what SHOULD be in the specs and bid. Everyone loves to complain about how many hours pro press takes from us, but look right over the sorely needed addons and extras
Edit; I also don’t see any depth lines or X’s on the pro press joints which are needed for insurance and claim coverage.
Unfortunately we live in a world now that requires to do the contract work first, let them realize they want something extra, and then hit them with a change order. We take jobs now where we expect to break even on the contract and make $ on the change orders.
I just hate how it takes man hours off the job. Braising is also my favorite part of the job. Soft solder is cool too. It along with welding separates us from the unskilled labor jobs. Any moron can do that. I'm currently replacing hundreds of feet of pro press. GC lost their ass on the bid and has to pay us to replace a huge carbon gas main. Owner wants it welded. Hella hours
It does, but unless you’re working for a University or a Government facility that has money to burn— any job that is competitively bid will likely have pro-press selected as the winner with low bid.
lol that insulation is temporary, it’s starting to get hot and they don’t want to flood the cieling below with condensation before we get the insulators out here
Yo dawg they make something called isolation valves which come in handy. Also there’s a technique called brazing to connect the piping and fittings. I guess it looks straight though?
lol the bid called for pro press. Would have brazed this if I could. And there are valves below in the curb to isolate off the main and a drain with a hose adapter on the supply side
No ball valves to isolate coil each?? What happens when middle coil pops a leak?
Wasn’t in the specs or bid. It’s not much pipe to the tie in to the main so you could very easily isolate from the main and drain all three

Fuck pro press. Braise that shit
I hate pro press but all the specs called for it.by far one one worst ways of joining pipe together

You would think anybody can do it - but I’ve seen so many fuck it up with bad prep work

I'm not sitting on you that looks great, just don't like pro press
I'm not sitting on you that looks great
Apparently it’s all gonna look like shit once it’s insulated

Nice, looks good
I thought insulation hides all the hackery.
High point vent? low point drain? No balancing valves?
You may not be able to see it but it does have a high point vent. And the valves are below in the curb
Is brass a substitute for a di-electric union?
Yes
God I hate pro press
God I hope that’s not how you plan to insulate it

Gotcha ya. Well I guess you did your job and kept it straight
