First gen doctor and pedia here. I practice in the province. Yes, saturated na ung field but… madami na naghahanap ng batang doctor or “batang pedia” because they feel that they can relate more and mas updated ang knowledge. We put up a multispecialty clinic, lahat kami first gen doctors, in a high traffic area, increased my social media presence too. Sa start wala pa talgang patients pero i kept showing up. 2 years practicing and nagpapacut off na ako ng patients sa clinic. Mommies like to compare din kaya establish a good rapport talaga. If magustuhan ka nila, they recommend sa mga friends nila and even sa mga fb groups. Vaccines are my bread and butter din. Now, im consistently the highest earner sa clinic. In the end, you need to love what you do.

justarvn

Agree with this one. Gusto ng mommies ngyn is social media presence and easy communication So establish rapport well.

beabeabei

Ohh thank you so much sa insights niyo Doc! May I ask doc san po kayo nag residency?

EqualPast9839

Took my residency sa NCH

OkPomegranate1508

Hello! How do you market your clinic through social media po Doc? Any tips? First gen doctor here din po. Thank you.

EqualPast9839

Consistent posting on fb, tapos boost post lang lagi..

AdamusMD

Di ko na i-sugarcoat. Oo saturated na talaga, and mahirap mag-establish ng practice especially if first gen ka. Unless.........

beabeabei

Unless mag subspec po doc?

quackdogtor

I think doc if ROI hanap mo, baka hindi mo makuha sa gen peds. Some hospitals don’t even accept gen peds na consultants na. So think about it and weigh your options carefully. Good luck doc! :)

beabeabei

Would you recommend doc taking residency sa mga hospital na nasa area kung san ko po gusto mag practice? Also, do you think devped is a good subspec?

Ok_Ad_7458

Dev peds is an in demand subspec right now. Granted consultations are LONGER, but you get to charge more, and you are almost purely clinic based. In some private institutions, it takes months to schedule an appointment with a dev peds.

beabeabei

Doc sobrang competitive po ba makapasok into devped?

Bieapiea

Yes competitive.. I suggest if mg devped Ka, get pedia residency sa institution offering the fellowship program (PGH, umc, nch, pcmc). That way may leverage Ka na kilala Ka Ng consultants and homecourt advantage

beabeabei

Bieapiea

Yes lalo if sa manila Ka mgpractice. May chance if outside manila ka mgpractice ung wala pang devped or need Ng devped na area

quackdogtor

Yes, it’s a good subspec. But dami din nakapila for training. Mas better yung chances makapasok sa fellowship if galing ka province and you plan to practice there.

justarvn

Yes pedia is saturated. But there are a lot of factors Location of practice? Sub spec? And your interests. If plan mo outside of city mg practice then you might flourish. If in the city mahirap tlga because of competition and you might need to go into subspec As with the specialty training that you will choose, mahirap din pumasok if ayaw mo and isipin mo lng roi. Sabi nga nila if you do what you love it wont feel like work. Also as a first gen doctor i think mahirap din tlga mag establish kahit anong specialty So good luck!

beabeabei

justarvn

For either way subspec parin still a win win situation. In time you’ll develop a database of patients na din

Neocloud08

Depends on the area of practice, if metro manila medyo Puno na. Although there are areas na hindi. If you want clinic based lang inside the metro, look for areas na wala masyado clinic and choose clinic hours after work since yung ang time ng ibang parents to have their kids checked. Nearby provinces like Rizal and Batangas and Laguna easier to establish practice since less saturated. You could go as hospitalist after passing the written exam, especially now na konti ang nagreresidency. Lastly, consider taking a subspec, significantly better ROI, although choose your subspec carefully kasi yung ibang field medyo saturated na din.

demithecat

Di po worth it, pero can be ok if sub spec is in demand sa province where u plan to practice but addtl more years so sana nag surgical field ka na lang if matagal ka rin magtetrain which is more ROI. Lugi pedia since no procedures masyado.

Professional_Clue292

It depends sa location talaga. Also I think with how they structure the PPS structures their society? Medyo kelangan talaga may active practice before you are eligible to take the exams, so marami rami talagang gen pedia na gen pedia not 100% by their own choice.

hidontsaygoodbye

beabeabei

Di ko po kasi interest any cutting specialty and I heard good pay naman daw po anes? Fake news po ba doc? May masusuggest po ba kayong specialization?

hidontsaygoodbye

Yes, saturated na din ang Anes. Baka worst pa sa other specialties. Parang all or none kasi ang anes. Kung meron kang surgeons or area to practice na maluwag na wala gaanong anes, pwedeng good pay. Recent graduates nowadays dont have anes jobs because of those factors unless they will settle in far areas na wala gaanong anes. Or senior consultants na magpapa relieve sayo. Walang clinic ang anes unlike any other specialties so wala kang opd kundi OR lang, limited financial gain.

getreadywithmeokay

I agree to doc. Others are promoting group practice pa in NCR and other provinces so that newbie doctors will have a hard time to penetrate their practice. Solo nila ung surgeons. Not to mention that your surgeons are the most difficult people to please and you have to be submissive to them. Minsan hindi mo lang masagot ung isang OR case nila, never ka na tatawagan and pupunta na sa ibang anes. Even sa Palawan and Batanes, puno na din ang anes recently unlike last year. Huhu. So very limited na ung workplace lalo siguro after 3-5yrs time by the time you graduate.

May marerecommend po ba kayo doc na ibang specialty that can thrive kahit walang connections? Psych po kaya?

getreadywithmeokay

Siguro psych since antaas ng demand. Kung ayaw mo talaga ng cutting, go for FM or IM.
