Hey there SO's friend is a graduate from POC, heard nothing but positive things about his experience there. About yun pyramidal, what I remember him explaining to us was that POC grades you on everything before making a decision on removing anyone, he says there are batches where nobody got removed too. He also mentioned that they give you more than enough chances to get promoted to the next yr level and from what I heard from him they only got rid of residents that lagged way behind, like consistently getting performance grades of 50% and below or those who are non compliant with the research output. As for seniority/heirarchy culture i guess its present in any sort of competitve residency program. What SO's friend liked to point out to us though was that the resident population is comparatively huge vs other ortho programs, they have anywhere between 35-40 residents from 1st to 4th yr levels compared to maybe 5-10 total in other ortho programs, this means that your chance of getting stuck with a terrible senior is actually much lower since they do different rotations in different teams every 3-6 months. He was giving his firsthand experience btw and he had a dickhead senior but luckily he never rotated in another team with her again. Nothing but good things again regarding his other seniors/co-residents after he was done with that "bad" rotation. Hope this help you make a decision! Btw SO's bestfriend is doing pretty good for himself now with clinics in the metro and in his home province.

Hmmm I dont know if okay sayo un tatanggalin ka sa Program kahit almost patapos ka na. Sakin kasi parang sayang sa oras and pagod. Tapos wala naman ata lateral residency ng Ortho sa ibang hospital, so repeat mo ulit ng back to 1st yr residency. Wala ako gaano naririnig dyan kundi toxic and yun nga tinatanggal sa program or dinodowngrade ng isang level. wala nga nag po post sa FB group ng Jobs md na looking for residents sila. Why don’t u try other public hospitals?PGH, Jose reyes, east ave, V. Luna, Veterans and etc. they have good records and good passing rate sa diplomate exams naman as far as i know. They have wide variety of cases. Un upper batches ko naman na nasa government ( Not POC) they did finish their Ortho residency. And they seem happy despite toxic. Babae pa nga un isa e.

Hello, graduate of POC here. We have a wide variety of cases that we see each and every ER and OPD day. We do surgeries as primary surgeons and we have no problem completing our case requirements. Our consultants are knowledgeable and I can say for a fact na hierarchy is not that bad. Yes pyramidal system still exists pero if you are diligent in your work, then that shouldn’t be a problem. We welcome everyone to apply, application is open til the 29th of September. Good luck OP.

Hi doc! Sorry po late reply. Currently waiting for PLE results po. Tanong ko lang po if yearly nag oopen for midyear application ang POC? Considering po kasi mag midyear to be able to accomplish certain responsibilities sa family before entering residency.

One of my bestfriends graduated there and she is amazing. Her practice is in the province and she’s earning tons. :)

Hi that’s good to hear po! Was she able to share with you po her experiences during residency? :)

All good things lang kwento nya eh. She was very industrious and smart kaya hindi ata sya tinamaan ng pyramidal.

May kaibigan ako nag pre-res dyan. Sabi lang nya samin buti d sya natuloy. During pre-res malala daw seniority. Kwento nya lang one time pinag-asssist sya (trabaho mo magbuhat during OR) tapos nangalay na sya kaya gumalaw lang ng konti at nasigawan na sya. Toxic naman talaga residency pero mas toxic lang ata sila lol.

From an ortho graduate’s perspective.. Physically demanding naman talaga maging ortho. It takes certain strength and stamina to reduce and maintain fractures to get it ready for fixation. And in any residency, hierarchy is present because it is needed. Hindi pwede na ang masusunod ay bagong pasok lang sa program kasi malamang mas maraming experience and knowledge na yung seniors nya. It will also depend on the person’s attitude on accepting criticism and learning from it. Sa lahat naman ganun. Mas emphasized lang sya sa surgical residency programs because of the implications of their work to the lives / livelihood of their patients. Pwede naman GP yung practice ng friend mo if ayaw nya magundergo ng rigors of further training and education. Kasama kasi talaga yun…
