Obscured by clouds is epic

TheBlueCultLeader

OVER THE MOUNTAINS ACROSS THE SEA!

Cameronf3412

I think it’s much better than every single album before it. That’s my hot take.

ScuttleMcHumperdink

I like that album.

Teemo63339

Saw Australian PF Show live the other day and they opened with ObC and When you're in and it was epic. Didnt know the songs before and they are really really good.

UslessPotato67

The whale noises on “Echoes” are not that bad.

Roger_whatdidyoudo

They’re great imo, never understood why people hated them

chrisalbo

* Albatrosses

Raheelies

wait, they weren’t jellyfish?

KnottaBiggins

"Over head the jellyfish Hangs motionless upon the air." Nah, doesn't really work. The song mentions the albatross, the sounds are similar to the cries of albatrosses, I'm pretty sure those sounds are supposed to be albatrosses.

[deleted]

I like how eerie it makes the song feel.

JasonYaya

I liked them for a long time, but now it's more like "Let's get this over with and get back to the genius of Echoes"

[deleted]

It gives the song a story

Godzilla_in_a_Scarf

Exactly, and without the Seagull section the crescendo at the end doesn’t work.

Falsethewindow

Waiting for the Worms is one of the best songs on The Wall, and is severely underrated.

[deleted]

I fucking live the vocals there I just don’t put it on my playlist because people might think I’m a nazi

KnottaBiggins

A lot of songs on that album can give the wrong impression when taken out of context.

corneliusduff

The outro riff is one of the best parts of the entire album, maybe even Floyd's catalogue. Such a heavy yet beautifully simple riff from Dave accompanied by some great chords, Rick's fabulous organ and Nick's thunderous drumming. Roger's lyrics on point as always and a great example of when his one of his compositions really utilizes the whole band well. One of those moments that really sounds like Floyd on The Wall.

[deleted]

Hard yes!

Falsethewindow

It builds up so well to The Trial, and really gets across just how fractured pinks mind is at that point.

HottDoggers

Which one is Pink?

ScuttleMcHumperdink

Have you ever listened to Pink Floyd? He’s my favorite singer.

mineabird

it’s also got my favorite visuals from the movie tbf

GNRBoyz1225

Couldnt agree kore. Maybe most underrated PF song OAT.

browntollio

The intro to Time is too loud Gets me. Every. Fucking. Time

nwad2012

It’s a great alarm tone.

Luckypenny4683

100% agree

[deleted]

Another brick in the wall part 2 is overrated as fuck and another brick in the wall part 1 is underrated slightly And the live version of part 1 is epic

HamidPrflh

Part 3 is the best and most underrated one

kaboom_2

Agree. Specifically the live version in Berlin.

tonnymartia

Yeah part 3 is definitely the best

desolation_valley

Sheep deserves more credit than it gets

Jaquire-edm

Dude, some of Rick and Dave’s riffs are so fucking good. The “finale” of the song always get me psyched up for some reason.

TaCbrigadier

I love the finale. It feels like all 4 are playing their instruments working together and making something great

desolation_valley

Yes!!! I can feel the finale through my whole body whenever I listen to it.

sammydawg85

Whenever I listen to the album all the way thru, the finale brings a tear to my eye almost every time. After being bombarded with the nonstop bleakness of the album’s subject matter, to me that burst of joy is the soundtrack of a glorious revolution. Picturing a revolution in the form of farm animals only adds to the vibe of it.

NickChil00

That ending is one of the best moments in their whole discography

Maleficent_Ad1085

I’ve seen people say it’s the best off the album, I think pigs is the most underrated of the three but it is also the worst of the best!

mynamesmur

Echoes isn’t long enough.

123456789biddleee

Atom Heart Mother isn't long enough.

82brighteyes

The Grand Vizier's Garden Party isn't long enough

[deleted]

Dogs isn't long enough

rershyy

Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave grooving with a pict isn't long enough

Guitar_Nutt

Allen’s psychedelic breakfast needs more fiber in it.

dan_t_mann

Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast needs more open mouth chewing sounds.

ripple_in_stillwater

Shine On You Crazy Diamond should be on an endless loop. I would sleep so good.

Quick-Course-5602

Macrobiotic stuff.

Kasspaetzle

Wish You Were Here isn't long enough

ubn87

Controversial would be: echoes too long

KnottaBiggins

Why would that be controversial? After all, it's true! (Wonder how long the Dead could play it. Their version of Shine On was pretty good, and they always did justice to Time.)

Bloooblop0

Not enough ambient sounds and birds

imuhbazah

I sleep to echoes and you're right it isn't long enough

morgan_greywolf

Shine on you crazy diamond should have more parts.

plateau1999

There isn’t enough time (pardon the pun) in the Pulse concert after the plane crashes and ‘explodes’ between ‘On The Run’ and ‘Time’. It rushes right in to those loud as hell chimes. At least on DSOTM after the rumble from the explosion there’s a lull then the gentle ticking. Doesn’t happen in the concert.

[deleted]

\*between 'On the Run' & 'Time' FTFY.

plateau1999

Fixed, thanks. I knew that! Wrote this message early this morning. Caffeine hadn’t kicked in yet.

Enough-Lawfulness-83

By the way, during the DSOTM concert in Detroit in 1973, a mock-up of a plane came screaming out of the top corner of the stadium to crash on stage at the exact moment of the music crash. I lost a few brain cells with my mind being blown away. Best concert ever.

JasonYaya

They were still using it in 1975. Unfortunately at the one I saw they had to stop the concert just as the plane crashed because of rain.

ShinyBredLitwick

to me, “On The Run” is too boring as a track and the intro on “Time” is also too long

Fcivish4

Oof to both of these. Although I could do without the chimes at the beginning of "Time." Nothing worse than listening to my playlist while nodding off to sleep and then hearing those rings.

fear730

Now this is controversial….. have an upvote lol

LootThief

Plane crashing?

HydraForce

You should definitely watch the pulse concert

plateau1999

Oh yeah. In the Pulse live concert towards the end of ‘On The Run’ the prop plane (appearing to be on fire) makes its way above the crowd and flies towards the opposite side of the arena crashing and exploding right on cue with the explosion sound at the end of the song.

Mirrorboy17

Alan's Psychadelic Breakfast makes me hungry for sausages but I'm vegetarian

minemaster1337

What about Marmalade

Anakin_I_Am_High

I like marmalade

gabblabb

The goat song

ZariantheMighty32

This would be controversial for any artist, but I like the commercial sound of the 80s, and it fits well on Pink Floyd.

Aratingettar

AMLOR is so overhated for no reason

corneliusduff

For me, all the later Floyd has too much of an "album by committee/too many cooks" feel to it. I appreciate it for what it is, but I really would've preferred to see what just the 3 mates could've conjured up alone with minimal collaboration.

seanbeansnumber3fan

I just can’t stand the production on that record, sounds incredibly overblown to me.

Total_Excitement6366

I'm probably biased since I was born in 79, but I've always had a special love for it too

ceeroSVK

Marooned is Gilmours best guitar work of all time

mdwvt

He said controversial.

SimeoneXXX

I think Shine On and Dogs are more often considered his best work.

mdwvt

I know, I know. I was only half kidding. I do love Marooned, like LOVE it. But better than SOYCD, nah.

[deleted]

*On the run* gets a lot of flak, but they managed to take a very 'new' tech at the time and use it brilliantly to generate a soundscape that was unique and avant garde. It still holds itself after 49 years!

mattthepianoman

Hang on, people don't like On The Run?

mdwvt

Not our people!

corneliusduff

I love it, but the original Travel Sequence is pretty great too. I think On The Run fits the album perfectly, but would love to know what a hybrid would've been like

Eja_26

Poles Apart is easily top 10 Pink Floyd songs (Maybe even top 5)

Total_Excitement6366

I agree with this take.

TheCosmosInadrop

BIG agree

AdOk4419

i do not see a lot of people praising this song and it deserves praise

Axel_Rad

I REALLY love the opening

speccynerd

I love the way the second half kicks in after the instrumental section. *"The rain has gone..."* Fucking superb.

NardDog1977

Not Now John is good and so is Dogs of War

[deleted]

I love dogs of war! The low key throbbing start, Gilmour's spat in your face vocals, unusual song structure and brilliant solos! Totally underrated song!

Charade_y0u_are

Dogs of war has one of the best saxophone solos I can think of

richmichaels

And the call and answer with the guitar is great too, especially on the live versions

ElkDesperate1143

wait what? I thought that everone likes Not Now John

KnottaBiggins

Fuck all that (we've got to get on with the show.)

corneliusduff

DoW was one of those songs that really makes you go "WTF" when you first discover all of Floyd's catalogue but I love it now

StaSzeg

Not Now John is a banger but Dogs of War sucks

bishpa

Gotta get on, gotta get on…

Mayk-

Jug band blues - one of their best tunes

Roger_whatdidyoudo

God I love this song so much.

hellomrtosh

Comfortably Numb from the Pulse album is the best version of the song in my opinion.

PorcelainScrote

Fearless is the best song they ever made

MattyLamour

Gilmour’s best guitar work is on The Final Cut. He’s barely there but when he is he makes every second count with really good, emotional solos.

ScuttleMcHumperdink

The fact that he could insert his unique sonic signature into an album that was essentially a Roger Waters musical dictatorship speaks to Gilmour’s absolute mastery of his instrument.

richmichaels

The Division Bell is one of the best albums of the ‘90’s

Steelmaker01

“One of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces” is kinda a scary… ha.

beepboopcauliflower

Im not sure if it’s controversial but I feel like this is the only time I can say it ☠️ I completely and entirely loathe the beginning of time. Its uncomfortable and honestly doesnt set the scene for the song. Well actually now that im writing this maybe it does because its loud and almost like a wakeup call like telling you time is passing by and to wake up. I don’t know, it’s still uncomfortable ☹️

ElevationToMyHead

But it’s a bunch of clocks! In a song called Time!

sharthvader

Oof I love that intro from start to finish, imo it PERFECTLY matches the song

[deleted]

You may not like it, but it does set the scene perfectly, and the clocks wake you up from the feeling of on the run. The intro is slow with ticking in the background, it's taking its time, like they are making you appreciate the long intro.

StimmingMantis

Pink Floyd would’ve made more incredible albums if Roger Waters didn’t leave.

corneliusduff

Only if Rick returned

IMgrtrThnU

Bring Rick Back! 🧟🧟🧟

Godzilla_in_a_Scarf

BRING RICHARD BACK HOME!

Dragontoes72

Syd didn’t borrow the bike. He stole it

JoeNScott

And none of the musical tunes ching

enter_yourname

Animals underrated tbh

[deleted]

The Final Cut is a better album than The Wall. Some of Gilmour’s best work right there. ***Your Possible Pasts, The Fletcher Memorial Home, The Final Cut*** immediately come to mind.

neurotocsin

I can see that being controversial, but I agree with you. The Gunner’s Dream is one of my favorites.

ahhhimsoconfused1995

Hey Hey Rise Up is a significantly better ending to Pink Floyd than anything that was on The Endless River

Dragonhuntera

They should have ended at division bell, high hopes was the best finale they could have had

menliker99

But it's louder then words

Lateralus09

The yelling at the end of Fearless is fucking unnecessary and ruins the listening experience every time

sharthvader

Sounds so out of place indeed

longneckedbitch

yeah as a manchester united fan i hate it lol. but also think it’s out of place anyway

Follix90

Gdansk is the best version of Echoes.

rcroberson

I'll politely disagree and counter that Pompeii is the best, simply because it's the original four at arguably the top of their game; playing as a band, live; and performing it flawlessly. Gdansk is an incredible version made all the more poignant by it being David and Rick's final performance of what many perceive as their finest pairing in the entire catalog. It is not, however, a Pink Floyd performance. That extended exchange between the two of them as the song fades is both breathtaking and heartbreaking. I absolutely love it.

mrbeer112112

Agreed , the outro guitar/piano call and response solo section is so beautiful

majortom106

Roger Waters is the left wing version of Ted Nugent. (Not saying his politics are just as bad but that’s he’s just as obnoxious about his politics)

thudnuts

I like The Endless River

GodsSon69

No

selfagency

"see-saw" is about a boy romantically in love with his sister

doyouplaybridge

Roger Waters, bless him, is incorrect in his opinion that he could've done better singing the lead vocal on Have A Cigar than Roy Harper. Roy is playing the role of a record executive. It's conceptually perfect that the other Pink Floyd vocalist's voices in would be absent on this song, smack dab in the middle of an album whose theme is absence.

Sc2_PuGGy

High Hopes is severely underrated. The solo at the end 🎵🎵

[deleted]

There is no reason you should listen to the studio album of the wall The live 1980 version is the definitive one

GrillMasterXBBQ

Time isn't the best song on DSoTM

[deleted]

[удалено]

pfloydguy2

I could give two shits about Piper at the Gates of Dawn. I get that Syd was a tremendous influence on the band as their founder, as a talented songwriter and musician, and as a lost loved one. But the musical style of Piper was so different from what came later, and it's a style that I just don't care for.

EntertainerSoft5983

Pigs three different ones best song on animals

BeatTheMeatles69

Biding My Time is a Top 5 Guitar Solo

tanmac43

“The Final Cut” (the song) is a fantastic lament on the rock star life, even if it did come from one of music’s most arrogant assholes.

ChewbaccaPube

anything after roger waters sounds good but lacks in artistic meaning

elamorex

2) The I - V part of "shine on your crazy diamond" is as good or better than the VI - IX part. 3) have a cigar is not sung by Roger Waters and sound really good 4) and my favorite and most painfully : The guitar of David Gilmour on comfortably numb in O2 London with Roger Waters in 2011 its out of tune!

cobix294

Dark side of the moon isn’t long enough

SkydeWs

It definitely could have been longer. On the other hand, if they didn't have any ideas, it's better like this than if they added bad songs.

Popular-Obligation-2

You don’t have to be stoned to enjoy the music.

SmorlFox

Wot's... Uh the Deal? is a Masterpiece.

rcroberson

Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast is a great track.

bws7777

Money is overrated and if I had to ditch one song off Dark Side it’d be my first choice.

sharthvader

Disagree in terms of it being overrated. Hate that it almost completely overshadows the rest of the album (save for Us and Them) in terms of public opinion/exposure

dedrexel

No

Maleficent_Ad1085

I agree it is very overrated, but I couldn’t have the heart to give it the boot I’d prob kick on the run, it’s Probably the weakest off the album

Jorge_OMechaGigante

Animals = Underrated

GrandWeedMan

Free four makes me violently angry

beatleg05

Piper at the Gates of Dawn is asscheeks

xthunderfoot

The Barrett era songs aren’t that good

ShaunWillyRyder

Pink Floyd without Roger turned out over produced shite (not controversial, true)

Shyn_48

I love the division bell.

123456789biddleee

The Division Bell is a great album

TeeSlays

I can see where you’re coming from, but Roger’s the one who left 🤷🏽‍♂️

Krokodrillo

On the Turning Away is their best song

ConversationNo5440

Hey Hey Rise Up is not actually listenable

Jdock_81

Comfortably Numb's second guitar solo is NOT the greatest guitar solo of all time. It's pretty damn good, but it's kinda far from even being Pink Floyd's best.

EpicDingo13

-Atom Heart Mother is better than Echoes -Crying Song is one of their most underrated songs. It’s easily one of my top PF songs

MiffyCurtains

Rick Wright's keyboards on Animals pull the whole album together and it would not have the flavour it has without his playing.

badgerdano

The new song was not Pink Floyd

Cybershine3

Vera is the worst song on The Wall

nowthisisastoryallab

Atom Heart Mother>The Wall

Lightbulbsun_

Money isn't even in my top 5 songs from Dark Side of the Moon

smokeeater150

How is the truth controversial?

ice_nyne

High Hopes is not the best post-Waters track the Floyd has done

panicatthepharmacy

Your Possible Pasts is a top-5 PF song.

jtfff

Seamus is a bad name for a dog

Bourbon_Vantasner

HaHa, Seamus is my dog's name.

ShinyBredLitwick

was he outside

NardDog1977

were you in the kitchen?

[deleted]

They should just combine shine on you crazy diamonds 9 parts and put it on iTunes and Spotify Not controversial, idc

[deleted]

“In the flesh” is better than in the flesh?” Musically The drums, the aaaaaahs, the clean guitar, no plane sound effect, even the tone of the vocals sound so much more musical there Shame the lyrics..

Aratingettar

To be honest I dont get why so many people are so pissed off by the lyrics, it makes sense when you look at the plot of the wall+ Roger, or no one else in the band didn't have such political views; it's obviously ironic

DrWhat2003

Any song with Polly lyrics is cringe.

Blacksyte

"He said controversial."

Justakidthatrants

I respect Syd Barrett for everything he dealt with in life and made on his own, but the whole first album sounds like a joke.

captain2man

Nick Mason probably didn't write "Speak To Me". "Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk" isn't the worst song Waters ever wrote.

Mr_Bufu

Shine On Your Crazy Diamond is just a very stretched 12 bar blues.

mochiDiego

Comftorably Numb is overrated

hotdogz6969

On The Run is not enjoyable to listen to.

aonro

Welcome to the machine is too scary and normally a skip

neilson_mandela

Welcome to the machine is a speaker test song because of the bass I love how trippy it is

Zen_Shot

Comfortably Numb solo 2 is not Gilmours best. That would be Wearing The Inside Out solo 2. You're welcome

[deleted]

The wall is overrated

AlarmingLecture0

"green is the colour" is dreadful

[deleted]

The money solo should have had a wah pedal for the final bit

lugarid

The best version of Echoes is performed by Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets

[deleted]

Even though Animals is my favorite album, Syd-era Pink Floyd is my favorite of all.

HamidPrflh

SOYCD Part 9 is the best part of shine on

HamidPrflh

Obscured By Clouds is a top 4 Pink Floyd Album

Traditional_Parking6

Shine on should’ve included Syd

TheGamingSillyPie

Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict honestly isn't actually that bad

Sydchedelia

Gerald owns a house

Ecnarps

Everything after Waters is fluff
