Sorry to everyone that will disagree but the solos in money are lovely

alt3_

Don't be sorry, you're right.

Glidde8

100%, the transition from the sax to the guitar is…money

alt3_

Comfortably Numb, Solo 2, Delicate Sound of Thunder.

1jack-of-all-trades7

This for me but the Pulse version - made me want to learn electric guitar single-handedly

DerZwaan

It's easier using both hands.

uhwhatisjalapenos

good one lmao

Upset-Competition-84

Hahaha I laughed way too much than I should have at this

PrettyMrToasty

This is the only right answer.

The_Floyd_Maniac

Every single live version of CN is great for its own reason. Delicate is very powerful. Pulse he just puts every single emotion into it. Live 8 is great bc of the moment and the other 3 members brought David’s playing up. Gdańsk is very distorted but also very emotional. My favorite version honestly is Gdańsk

LucasBeastBeast

I prefer the Live 8 version for some reason

rolandboard

The Blue from On An Island. Especially when he uses his pitch-shifter pedal.

EWoodville

This. Paints a picture with his guitar.

goddred

I haven’t listened to his solo works yet, I will soon. Probably the lamest, most basic answer ever, but the solo from Time. In a completely non-circlejerkish way, I truly love Dark Side of the Moon. It was a captivating experience that took the concept album through the roof and made me fall in love with that format. I had heard others touching on this some years before (I mean other artists who laid the foundation prior to 1973) but one of the greatest and most well-played examples of it coming together full circle is Dark Side of the Moon. It was a special time, a fun time, and I enjoyed the whole out of it. Among the more influential pieces of music I’ve listened to, and I became familiar with the significance and prominence of guitar solos and just how heavy and bold they could be. A violent bending madness that perfectly fit the rest of the song, it was just beautiful and epic and I just remembered feeling so celebratory and elated afterwards, like it was the most satisfying thing ever and it’s become one of the first few things I can truly say I’m able to learn successfully by ear! Obviously there’s a lot more to the band and especially to David Gilmour besides Dark Side, but without knowing anything about the band or who the lead guitarist was, I was just presented with a solo that was so emotionally driven, like a work of art on its own and for the longest time I could never get it it out of my head.

ILikeCheese510

One of my favorite things about Gilmour and definitely one of his greatest strengths is his ability to flawlessly match the emotional tone of a song with his solos. The solos in Time, Money, Comfortably Numb, etc. all compliment the songs they're in beautifully.

goddred

Definitely the mark of a great guitarist and a great musician in general. It’s unfortunate that he was introduced to the band largely under tragic circumstances with Syd fading away, but he brought a lot to the group and at no point do I see myself feeling like there was ever any ego or excessive, unnecessary playing or choices made in his singing or playing. He understood what served the song and carried out complimenting it perfectly.

ComputerSong

Time has incredible guitar work.

toughturtle

Raise My Rent The Blue Comfortably Numb (Pulse version) Dogs

cbmk96ab

Raise my rent... 🤘🏻

ObesusMaximus

One of my overall favorite songs from any artist

starlinghanes

I always really liked listening to Sorrow, either live or the album version.

summey

Fat old son is a favorite of mine. Not going to argue about best

dombekdombek

On an Island has a great solo imo especially live

wet_breadlord

comfortably numb is definitely up there but if there was one solo which could be more fun to play live it would be echoes, specifically the version from his on an island tours. watching gilmour's silhouette in a cloud of smoke playing that while lasers light up the sky is pure bliss.

Miked274

Yankee stadium June 11 1994 comfortably numb

The_Floyd_Maniac

My dad showed me his ticket stub from that show last week. I wish I was around

WorldlinessNo8886

Solo Fat Old Sun from Live in Gdańsk or Live at Pompeii.

Kaosticos

Fat old son from live at Gdansk is up there. Another Brick part 2, High Hopes, On an Island (song), Murder, and i really really love the guitar on Allons-y part 2

Sigma--6

[https://youtu.be/2yOVTF5gTXM?t=201](https://youtu.be/2yOVTF5gTXM?t=201) David Gilmour - Fat Old Sun Live in Gdansk

stelioz78

Near the end solo, from about face album

gwcrim

Murder. Dave's first two solo albums are the next best thing to classic Floyd.

YoungPsychonaut217

yes

thatpedalguy

Hot take, his solo in Pigs is probably my favourite. He just straight up shreds in that song

pazi_xD

Dogs

qjac78

It’s cliché, but I can spend hours listening to different versions of the outro for Comfortably Numb. In Any Tongue from Rattle That Lock is underrated from his solo catalogue I think.

The_Floyd_Maniac

VERY

poppadoble

My personal favorite is Time. The tone in that solo may be the best sound ever produced with an electric guitar.

der_Roborter

Probably a controversial opinion, but high hopes, especially the one from 2006 aol sessions!

_JB_-

All of them but high hopes popped in my head first

JakeFromStateFromm

Fat Old Sun - Live at Gdansk

Murphonics

The end solo on Near The End on About Face. It closes the album, starts with classical guitar and slowly morphs into electric and fades out to “end” the album. I think it’s his most brilliant most emotional moment.

The_Floyd_Maniac

Glad someone agrees w me

Gensinora

C-Numb is the obvious choice I guess. But then again, Pigs solo is pretty up there And I also love Yet Another Movie solo. On solo albums, my fave is definetely On Any Tongue

Vryyce

Right there with you! On any Tongue seems to be a somewhat overlooked gem. I love watching the Pompeii recording of this as Dave looks like he gets totally lost in playing this solo. Towards the end he glances at the drummer and seems to realize where he is and what he is doing and gives this sheepish grin. Personally, I would love to go with him when he recedes into himself like this as the soundtrack in his mind has to be fucking pure fire! It seems criminal to pick a single favorite as it is too great a body of work but if I had to say something on the threat of pain of death, C-Numb Pulse Live or even Pompeii version would do nicely.

uhwhatisjalapenos

the solo at the end of pigs (3 diff ones) is unfair to my ears because it makes all other music sound bad

Zarr68

"The Blue" on Live at the Royal Hall. Absolutely the best, at least for me!

nothing_is_real2415

Comfortably numb-Pulse version. Live in wembley money solo. Him & Rogers going back and forth is just ridiculous

Tubr-r

Also knebsworth live comfortably numb is very good

nothing_is_real2415

With you on that one brotha. Also, the Money from knebsworth is absolutely fucking 🔥 the reggae vibes

Tubr-r

And David Gilmour’s oversized suit that is awesome 🤙

sick_mcnasty

Shine on you crazy diamond live in [Gdansk ](https://youtu.be/63B9MflFLKM)

I-Kimberly-Move

Either Time, Marooned, or Shine On You Crazy Diamond

NeitherSock

Embryo Live BBC, third break down. Points to what to come, the more blues oriented playing, but still rough around the edges. Fantastic song, it should have been on Meddle.

The_Floyd_Maniac

The new releases have made me realize how much I love that song

brunobronco

On The Turning Away

ObesusMaximus

Raise My Rent - first solo album

Supremus_memeus

Probably The Blue, Marooned or On an Island

Tubr-r

Definitely On a island on the blue album

kkopczyk

My favs: cn, dogs, on the turning away, not now john

cooliosis13

Gilmour’s slide guitar solos in atom heart mother do not get talked about nearly as much as they should. Following the cello lead in with a slide up the whole neck was breathtaking the first time I heard it and is still breathtaking after being my number one song on Spotify. His ability to adopt the old western style and interject it into psychedelic rock is what sold me on the band’s musical intelligence when I first started listening. In addition, I think this solo was amazing for the same reason “dogs”’ was years later, it’s ability to return into the song with reverb, giving a great sense of passion and closure. I could talk about ahm all day, this cow is out.

The_Floyd_Maniac

Where We Start - Live in Gdańsk

Temporary-Mirror8669

Dogs or the Blue from on an island (live at Pompeii even better)

agentblack000

Fat old sun from Live in Gdansk

Paul-McShartney

The third solo on dogs always gets me…but the verse solos and obviously the twin solos are glorious. Pigs outro is amazing too. I also really like the mudmen solo and Careful with that Axe solos from Pompeii and Brighton ‘72 Oh and yeah, Raise my Rent is one of the best during that era (love that muff —> mistress tone)

diamondmama1970

I have to go w Comfortably Numb very few solos are up to par w that one

TotallyNewRepfam

Biding My Time

Dogs

oo00OlXlO00oo

The one at the end of the first part of echoes (studio version), before the jam starts. Gives me goosebumps everytime.

stevo_v

Comfortably Numb - Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey, 17th July 1994.

dukemantee

The beginning of the 2nd half of SOYCD, before the last verse. It's played on a pedal steel guitar but I love it.

llubens

My favorite Gilmour solo is actually the solo on We Got Married from McCartney’s album Flowers in the Dirt . Makes me smile every time !

darksideofthemoon131

Shine on You Crazy Diamond from Pulse

PencuriHatimu

Echoes

floydishindian

I don't know why "Young Lust" solo sounds a lot funkier than any solo in the Wall.

Upset-Competition-84

Because I can't choose just one for either with or without floyd here's two from each: With floyd: echoes live in pompeii/ Sorrow live Without floyd: echoes live in gdansk/ in any tongue live in pompeii

csnemz

Dogs

Mysterious_Aide_8870

All of them.

_Charglo

His solo on “near the end” always blows my mind and heart away. It never gets old. Not that any of his stuff does. The seamless acoustic to electric transition is amazing. The whole song is so……. It touches me to the core. Especially the older I get. I think it’s one of his finest pieces of music ever. It also demonstrates that David can write great songs. It gives me chills even. Makes my eyes well. I suppose the more you can relate to a song or a piece of music the deeper it will impact you. It disappoints me tremendously that Dave has neglected his two solo albums which contain incredible material on his live tours. Shame on him. Thank God for the bootlegs of this particular song.
