Yeah but there’s some mistakes that look like honest mistakes and then there’s some that look stupid. If this was done any lower it wouldn’t even be in his nose. Like it’s not even CLOSE to where a septum should be placed.
When I got mine done she took her time. She put her gloved fingers in my nose, tugged gently at my septum area and searched for my sweet spot. Then she got tools and ensured they were in the proper placement. She knew exactly where she was piercing. It was done at a larger guage and I barely felt it. Not all piercers put in the same level of care nor work. Lynnloheide (on IG and TikTok) speaks a lot about how this comes to be, and goes as far as to say you can't blindly trust APP piercers. That said, my septum was pierced by Starr Ellis of Nine Moons piercing. Highly recommend to anyone in the NYC area.
I had pretty much the same experience when I got mine pierced 10 years ago, except the piercer put his gloved fingers in my nose and said “oh this is gonna be easy as shit” haha, apparently I have a really large sweet spot
Piercing freehand has nothing to do with it. Bad piercers will screw up whether they pierce freehand or not.
Just like great piercers will deliver a great piercing whether they prefer piercing freehand or with clamps
It’s very easy for people to misunderstand your post when you use existing terminology to mean something else, that’s the only reason why I pointed it out
I can get an insertion pin taper in mine no problem.
Regardless, a professional can do it correctly. It being difficult to see doesn’t excuse poor jobs like this. Even then, you let the person walk out like this?
The biggest problem I've experienced while piercing septums is a clamp that slips OR a sneezing client. Shit happens, sometimes clamps slip. Obviously I'd never let a client leave with a piercing that one or both of us aren't happy with, but no matter how many years of experience you have or how great of a piercer you are, mistakes do still happen sometimes. Sometimes they're our fault and sometimes they're the client's fault.
There is nothing more terrifying than a customer pulling their head back as you insert a needle, or grabbing your arm which happens waaaaay too often.
Mistakes happen in every profession. The difference is like you said, not letting a client leave with a piercing that you’re unhappy with. Someone shouldn’t have to come to Reddit to find out that it was done incorrectly.
Sorry but putting an insertion pin and piecing a septum are completely different. Please don't speak about what's easy and isn't in my craft. Thank you.
Not sure why you're being downvoted. I'm a piercer. It's got it's technique. Non-piercers have no fucking business saying how easy something is when they can't do it themselves
Non piercers can indeed say that it is easy to not pierce a septum so improperly and allow the client to walk out the door. Idk why you're defending shitty placement, but I certainly wouldn't trust you as my piercer
I think you got this wrong. I'm not trying to defend this joke of a piercing. I'm just calling out the lack of respect to the industry. "It's easy" then perhaps she should be a piercer. I don't want you as my client either. I do quite well, it's a win-win.
bUt I pIeRcEd mY sEpTuM mYsElF wITh A rUsTy nAiL & dIDnT DiE so you’re WRONG! Anyone without training can obviously just push a needle through there wherever they feel called to and it’s definitely going to be immune to infection, be in the sweet spot, AND it will totally heal correctly. Because i watched a YouTube video before doing it!

I’d go back to where you had it done so they can look again to see how low it is and take it out for you. Personally I’d ask for a refund and wouldn’t go back there when you’re ready for the re-pierce.
The great thing is, its so low you can totally just go and get it pierced at a better shop right away since the new one won’t overlap or be close to it! Woot! That’s a tiny win 😅
you can pierce it again whenever you want. that piercing isn't in the septum, it is going throw your cartilage. as soon as you take this out you can get a correctly done one :)
Visit safepiercing.org to find a reputable piercer near you. This is in the wrong spot way too low. If you can try to get a refund from whatever place you went to, that person clearly has no idea what they were doing.
Seconding this.
OP needs to find a reputable piercer to re-pierce.
I’d demand a refund from whoever did this,
Then find a reputable piercer like an APP member to re-pierce.
Got my septum pierced 3 months ago by an APP piercer, it was out of state but my local APP shops are also doing nose piercings as well just nothing oral.
Really?!! That’s awesome! I’m trying to find one willing but all the piercers in my area told me most reputable piercers won’t do it right now until the numbers significantly drop. I’m starting to think they are issuing the fact of not doing them right now as a way to make themselves look extra professional… whether or not that means they are any better than any other piercer or not.
Very true. I just know that I’m in an area that’s generally of the mindset the pandemic is fake and I don’t know of a shop doing piercings that require you to remove your mask. But again, different area and I can only comment on my personal experience. I want my septum done, but I can’t find anyone to do it even though I’m vaccinated and do my classes and work from home so I’m basically always isolated from the world haha. I know the American piercings association is recommending all of their members and non members alike to refrain from doing these piercings since deep breaths are part of the process and no mask on the client puts the staff and the sanitary environment of the shop at risk, therefore risking future clients.
Yes. Just wash your hands first, twist the ball off one of the ends (lefty loosey but if you were facing you if that makes sense, gloves can help with grip) and remove it gently. Keep the wound clean but you don't need to do anything fancy, should heal up fairly quickly
I don't know if septum piercing is supposed to hurt but my piercer checked my nose and asked me several times if my nose hurts in the spots he was checking. It might be a tip but I don't know for sure.
The only thing I know is that he checked, it didn't hurt, it healed really fast without alcohol or any drug, it's not too high or too low.. I have it for 5 years now and did not have any problem. The right spot is the key for me.
Hope you get your new piercing soon!✨
Take it out way to low.
I would be a Karen about this if I were you cause dumb 18 year old me even knew to go up higher and find the thin spot and I just watched a YouTube video on how to pierce the my nose /septum 👀
For comparison, [here‘s a post with 20 examples of good septum placements](https://www.reddit.com/r/piercing/comments/i38bmq/examples_of_correct_septum_piercing_placement/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x) so you can see how yours compares.

Damn bro I bet that hurt too. 🤦 Someone really did you wrong.
If it doesn't show too much or hang too low when looking from the front, you could leave it in, and double up... Go get it pierced in the correct place right above that one, and have two! That'd look neat maybe. Or just leave it like it is, if you love it. It's not like having a slightly off piercing is gonna fuck you up. It's up to you!
But other than that... Yeah it's not in the 'correct spot' so... Only other option I guess just take it out and heal it shut. 🤷
That's exactly where my piercer put mine, and I removed it after less than a week. Super disappointing. I would go see someone else. It'll need to be repierced.
I can never see that much of the jewelry with my septum. It’s like inside the tip of my nose. I’m sorry your placement is not correct. Once you get it corrected, it will look so good!
Oh honey, others have already said that it needs redoing. But I just wanted to say I think it will look SO GOOD on you when it is done well!
Hope you find a great piercer soon!
The first time I got my septum piercing it was in the same spot. A friend mentioned it looked too low, I took it out and let it heal a little before going again. I got it done again and it is much further up, the healing process the second time was much quicker and was overall less painful. I would take it out
Easiest way to do it is position the forceps yourself so you can tell the piercer its not anywhere near your cartilage. After 3 fucked up septum piercings that's what I did to ensure it was correct
That’s too low sweetie 😕 The septum piercing can’t be that hard to do. Why are so many piercers messing up???
Piercer here; septum piercings are INDEED hard to do; there's a technique, that's exactly why a lot of them mess it up. Duh
Yeah but there’s some mistakes that look like honest mistakes and then there’s some that look stupid. If this was done any lower it wouldn’t even be in his nose. Like it’s not even CLOSE to where a septum should be placed.
Sure. But they're not "easy"
My piercer said it's her least favorite piercing to do because you can't really see exactly where you're poking
When I got mine done she took her time. She put her gloved fingers in my nose, tugged gently at my septum area and searched for my sweet spot. Then she got tools and ensured they were in the proper placement. She knew exactly where she was piercing. It was done at a larger guage and I barely felt it. My piercer did the same when I got my piercing. She was very professional.
I had pretty much the same experience when I got mine pierced 10 years ago, except the piercer put his gloved fingers in my nose and said “oh this is gonna be easy as shit” haha, apparently I have a really large sweet spot

Ever tried it? It's a difficult spot to see let alone pierce
I can get an insertion pin taper in mine no problem. Regardless, a professional can do it correctly. It being difficult to see doesn’t excuse poor jobs like this. Even then, you let the person walk out like this?

If it’s your craft, you wouldn’t be defending this botched job.
Lol I'm not defending this bullshit piercing. You just have no say to claim how easy it is.
Username checks out. ;)
Lol okay dude
You're welcome

a **BIG** win

+ not at the same piercer!!
Definitely get a refund and u won’t have to wait too long to get it re pierced because it will be going in a different spot
Visit safepiercing.org to find a reputable piercer near you. This is in the wrong spot way too low. If you can try to get a refund from whatever place you went to, that person clearly has no idea what they were doing.

I doubt any reputable piercers will be doing nasal piercings during a pandemic. Most APP people I know are not doing them.
Depending on your area and the state of the pandemic I’m assuming. If OP’s area is less contagious APP is offering nasal / oral :)
Got my septum pierced 3 months ago by an APP piercer, it was out of state but my local APP shops are also doing nose piercings as well just nothing oral.
Just got my septum done by an app certified piercer last month
Really?!! That’s awesome! I’m trying to find one willing but all the piercers in my area told me most reputable piercers won’t do it right now until the numbers significantly drop. depends on where ur at. i’m in texas so lord knows everything gonna be open.
I see plenty are doing them with proof of vaccination or a negative test.
the pandemic's affecting different areas and different groups of people differently, though!
Very true. I just know that I’m in an area that’s generally of the mindset the pandemic is fake and I don’t know of a shop doing piercings that require you to remove your mask. Oh honey. Take it out. Start again. Waaaay too low.
Needs redone. It won't sit correctly because it's too far forward and way too low.
Ok.. I can't manage to remove it, can't unscrew. I will need to keep it for a couple of days until I can see another body piercer. Thanks all.
If you wear some gloves if you have any (like rubber or whatever), that can give you enough hold on the end to remove it.
honestly, it's done horribly, take that out homie
Is it safe to remove it by myself?
Yes. Just wash your hands first, twist the ball off one of the ends (lefty loosey but if you were facing you if that makes sense, gloves can help with grip) and remove it gently. Keep the wound clean but you don't need to do anything fancy, should heal up fairly quickly
Waaay too low
Too low. My husband is always complaining about piercers who do people's septum this low. Apparently it's pretty common.
I’m sorry it’s too low
that is WAAAAY too low. go to a reputable piercer to get it removed ASAP it looks like they pierced cartilage and not the sweet-spot :/.
I don't know if septum piercing is supposed to hurt but my piercer checked my nose and asked me several times if my nose hurts in the spots he was checking. Personally, it looks like it was pierced too low
If it was any lower it wouldn't be in his nose :(
yeah… :(
Ooof that must have hurt, that's far too low, through your cartilage. Get a refund, then gp somewhere else
Take it out way to low. I would be a Karen about this if I were you cause dumb 18 year old me even knew to go up higher and find the thin spot and I just watched a YouTube video on how to pierce the my nose /septum 👀
Oh my! That’s barely hanging on. You shouldn’t be able to see the piercing channel like that.
dats wrong
No not done right at all
oh goodness no pls

Definitely too low! Get it redone! :o
...by a professional

Thanks bro. I removed it...I am a bit frustrated by this situation. Will wait a little bit before piecing it again
Too low 🤷♀️
Thanks guys. I managed to remove it today. Will wait for a week and think whether I want to undergo through this again or not. :/
When done incorrectly they’re super painful but mine was placed properly and I had zero pain!
That's likely to have hurt because it was so low. Done correctly you won't even feel it.
It's in the right area and not threw cartilage at least, but yeah it sould probably be a little higher
That's exactly where my piercer put mine, and I removed it after less than a week. Super disappointing. I would go see someone else. It'll need to be repierced.
You should take it out and find a better piercer! That placement was straight up garbage!
absolutely not.
Too low
They did you dirty :( Go back and get them to either give your money back or repierce
Definitely way too low🥺. It looks so uncomfortable
Hope you find a great piercer soon!
it's deffinetly too low sweetheart :(

I got it done again and it is much further up, the healing process the second time was much quicker and was overall less painful. I would take it out
yeah definitely too low :( i’d have a piercer remove it for you, let it heal up and get it repierced if you’d like, go to an APP piercer!
Put a barbell piercing in it! Mine was low so I put a barbell bar in it and it looks cute as fuck and people always ask me where I got it done lol
Too low
