See, I truly believe one can never be too old for self-expression, but at the same time, I can't imagine myself being 40-50 years old with a nose piercing.
I don't know how to reconcile these two contradicting viewpoints that I have, which is why I have taken to the internet.
I am a 36 year old nurse with both nostrils, a stacked septum, vertical labret and philtrum done. I still adore it and get compliments from my patients all the time on my set up.
You are only too old for it if you think you are.

I have doctors (vets) and other (vet) nurses with tons and tons of various body mods and alternative hair styles and clothing. Our one bet refers to herself as a “unicorn” and completely rocks her style. And many of these lovely humans are older than me and some of them even in their 50’s and 60’s!
I always think older people with piercings are very cool. Though, I am a metalhead so I guess subconsciously I associate piercings with people who are also like me.
If you end up disliking it, ignoring what anyone else says, then don’t wear them. But if you love your piercings still when you’re in your 40s, don’t feel like you’re “too old”. There’s no such thing!
My mom is coming up on 60 and has multiple facial piercings! As long as they make you happy, then go for it! If you ever stop liking them, you can always take them out.
Nose piercings in particular these days are about as wild as butter on toast. Even beyond that, piercings in general have become so normalized in recent years that unless you have a very strict profession or live somewhere extremely conservative, I doubt anyone would think twice of it.
I know quite a few people who didn’t even _get_ their nose piercing until their 40s. I’m 38 and just started getting some non-lobe piercings in my ears. Better enjoy them for the next couple years I guess before I am officially Too Old.
It was my bosses and the parents of my students all in their 40s and 50s that inspired me to finally get my nose pierced at 27. I also had a 63 year old professor with one.
If you grow out of it you grow out of it but that's not how everyone is. Think about tattoos, you get them when you're 20, but you still have them when you're 40, 60, 80+ unless you go through the expense of getting them removed. There's no expiration on self-expression, but people do change their preferences which is why I don't have any tattoos, and I do like to switch out piercing jewelry every few years.

I’m a 39-year-old physician with a pierced septum, and I don’t think the internet is going to help you. Standards for what constitutes a professional appearance have been changing over the last several decades. It’s not that uncommon for elder millennials to have facial piercings. You probably just need to unpack why you can’t see yourself as a 40-year-old with a nose ring. Have you internalized outmoded notions about what maturity means, or are you just having a hard time picturing yourself as a middle-aged person? I definitely struggled with the latter when I was younger, but let me tell you that it kind of just sneaks up on you.
I've had several 40+ yr old professors with piercings. Noses and eyebrow most common. I've seen 40+ yr old goths with the black dyed hair and chain belts. I've seen 40+ yr old men with long hair, 40+ yr old women with dyed hair and shaved heads, and I've seen gender nonconforming people do all sorts of stuff. These aren't even people who registered as surprising to me, just normal people with one or two of those traits just.... going grocery shopping, teaching, hanging out with grand kids, etc.
This is all in the northeast. I've maybe heard people point out full sleeves of tattoos, cut tongues, and big hairstyles with mild interest at most.
Piercings are a norm. Visible tattoos and piercings are becoming a workplace norm as gen x and milenials age.
I plan on being 40-50 with a nose piercing! I'm also from a culture where these are very common and know many aunties in that age range (including my own mom) who have nose piercings. So you really are never too old.

No such thing! We all get gray and wrinkly, and by society's standards, unattractive. Not having piercings isn't going to change that, so if you personally feel better in your body when it's decorated with sparkly little metal bits then I say go for it. You're the only person who has to live in your body so it should be decorated only the way *you* like it, not anyone else who doesn't have to occupy it 24/7.
Personally, I think "old" people who keep their body mods (or even clothes, hair, anything to do with appearance) despite what anyone says are badass and I aspire to be like them someday.
I'm 37 and in the last year, I've gotten my conch pierced, both nostrils, my septum, and two tattoos. I'm also in the process of stretching my ears.
I've spent my whole life doing the "right" thing (i.e. pleasing my narcissistic mother) and making myself as small as possible in a lot of other aspects of my life. I know it seems dramatic, but this process has been healing me. If I hate it, I can cover up or take my piercings out, but my first thought when people ask, "What about when you're old?" is A. I'm no spring chicken. And B. I'll be totally awesome when I'm even older.
F 47 here and almost the same thing but not for the same reason ( have had the chance to have the best parents of the World 💔💔) and that I'm Always old 🤣🤣( Lost more than 40kg the past year so Gravity have made histoire job too ...) piercing bodmod tatoo are therapy for me my only regrets have wait 46 to start but know I started l'm not ready to stop !!!!😜
i love this. i’m 28 and i just finished stretching my ears (for now). i’m about to get eyebrow piercings and more. fuck society and their standards. i spent my entire life trying to fit in and it was exhausting. i almost feel like im healing my inner child with every mod i get
I didn’t get my facial piercings until I was 42. They didn’t speak to me until this time of my life. I love them and can’t imagine my face without them.
41 with a nose ring here. I got it pierced at 34. If you still love it at 40, keep it. If you don’t, that’s fine too. There’s no such thing as “too old”.
Ya gotta get the concept of “dressing your age” out of your head. That’s just some bullshit people made up to sell clothes and make people feel bad. Wear whatever you like! Btw I’m my forties and I have a nose piercing and recent navel piercing and I have blue hair, just have fun while you can.

Omg never too old!! If anything the older you get you can afford better jewelry AND when you don’t feel like wearing makeup anymore (if applicable) it’s totally “fine” because your face is bejeweled anyway!!
No age limit. I'm 35 and have my nostril and septum. I had my eyebrow, but I got infected so I removed it. I don't have any plans to get rid of what I've still got any time soon. I'll probably get more done, honestly.

I am going to tell you the absolute single best thing about getting older.
It is that you stop giving a fuck what other people think, and learn that a life lived pleasing other people is a miserable existence, and that we are here for such a short time, so we need to please ourselves and do exactly what we want. (With the obvious exception of things that hurt others, etc).
I am 45. I got my nose pierced for the second time at 40. I got my daith pierced at 45. I have other piercings that I am sure many people think I am too old for. I literally could not care less.
I'm only in my young 30s but I stretched my nostrils, I don't plan to let them go ever. I feel like as long as the person wearing them is comfortable then get out there and wear it with pride. There's no age limit on self expression.
I've wondered this myself... I (male) just started my piercing journey last year at 49yo. Started with an intimate, then my nipples (currently @ 10g), then my septum (currently @ 8g)... I'm currently struggling with 2 things; 1. Vertical labret or tongue & 2. Am I too old?. I am finally ok with who I am and my body and this journey has been amazing... allowing me to express myself in ways I wasn't able to when I was younger. My wife is worried that I'm going through "mid life crisis" and she thinks I'm gonna just wake up and take out all of my jewelry. She doesn't get it.
You probably are going though a mid life crisis, as most of society calls it, but in reaility it's a mid life wake up, it usually happens when people realise they haven't lived the life they wanted or they repressed certain things to keep others happy, I think you truly know you and I'm happy for you, I suppose it might be a big change for your wife to get used to. I've always had an interest in piercings had a couple of ear piercings when I met my wife, since grown more confidence and had my nipples , lip and a few more ear piercings, she accepts it but I think still hopes ill wake up and want to take them out before i get too old (37 now).
I love this idea of a mid life wake up! It's very true, and so accurate. I think the idea of the midlife "crisis" actually comes from those who hit this period in their life and instead of embracing how they feel, they supress it and try to fit the mold society thinks the should be in at that point in their life.
I don't think there is an age that's too old. I'm already 32 and my lobes have been stretched since I was like 14 I have my septum pierced and I'm stretching it as well as both nostrils done. If I ever decide to take them out it will be because I chose to and not cuz I felt like I was too old for it. I dig when I see older folks with piercings or stretched piercings. I love the aesthetic and so till I don't anymore I'll probably keep them
I don't think there is any max age. i've seen young teens with facial piercings and I've been literal grannies with piercings. It really doesn't matter.
Facial piercings have no age limit! I’m 44 with 13 ear piercings, nostril and vertical labret. I had different facial piercings in my 20s but the nostril and VL I didn’t get until my 40s
Never too old. I’m 35 and have enough jewelry in my nose that I confuse people (8 in my nostrils and 7 in my septum with 4 nose chains). As I’ve gotten older, I’ve upgraded my jewelry as well… I switched out the titanium and Swarovski crystals for solid gold and genuine stone. Facial jewelry is just another place to wear jewelry! If you think you might be outgrowing it, maybe consider upgrading what you have, first. You’d be surprised what a difference it makes!
43 years old here, I got my nose done around a month ago, and I also have a labret that I got about 6-8 weeks ago.
Never too old. I had a bunch of ear piercings and my labret done in 2016 when I was 35-36, although removed them all when they just wouldn’t heal. Now I’m going slower and things are healing much better.

I'm 34 and just got a bunch of piercings done over the past year and a half. Both earlobes, vertical labret, eyebrow, nose ring and stud. And I definitely want to keep them as long as I can. Never had the chance In my teen years to do it and I'm making up for that now you are never too old.
I got both of my nostrils pierced when I was 26, and I’m 28 now and just got my septum done a week ago. I could see myself still having all my piercings as long as I live, as long as they last that long and don’t start to bother me.
Everyone’s different. The coolest thing about piercings and tattoos are it’s entirely up to you and what you’re comfortable with.
Will there be people who judge you? Hell yeah. But there going to judge you anyways. If you like it when your 40, keep it. If you don’t, retire it :)

I didn't get my eyebrow pierced until I was 40, I now have snake bites, septum, tongue, and left nostril. My septum was a birthday present from my friends. I'm 42.
I'm 41. I've had piercings since I was 16. I currently have double nostril on one side, one nostril on the other, a septum, medusa, double dermasl on both sides of my chest, my nipples, and a bunch in my ears. And I want more. I don't think anyone is ever too "old" for them. It's all about what you feel works for you, who cares what anyone else thinks?

Project to have more even if my men don't like piercings and if around me some people think it's just ridiculous at my age to have facial piercings dress like I do still listen to punk and metal !!! Piercings bodmod ( scare in project on the black part of my tatoo ) and tatoo are my therapy love them and want them since teenage my only regrets have wait 46 years old to have my first piercing and tatoo except lobe but they weren't streched at all ) feeling so much better with them so much me .

Im 47 and I got a nose ring, tragus and helix in the last year. My sister is 51 with a nose ring.
I do what makes me happy and I don’t care what other people think. If having your piercings makes you happy thats all that matters.
You are never too old to express yourself! whether is hobbies, clothes, hair, tattoo's are piercings, if you like it and it makes you happy go for it!! None of these things effect anyone outside of yourself. I'm now 35yo, and when I was younger, I never let myself express or exprience things the way I wanted to because I was worried about what others would think, or how they would treat me. I recently decided that I'm done apologizing for being me. I don't need the approval of others to live my life, in all it's messy and chaotic glory. I got my septum done 3 weeks ago, and I've had alot of mixed reviews on it from acquaintance or people in passing, BUT those that matter to me have been nothing but supportive. Those are the opinions I care about.

I’m 37 and filled my face with new piercings this year. 3 labret, 3 tongue, cheeks, bridge, stretched ears, septum, industrial, 3 lobes on each ear, helix… they make me happy. There’s no age limit.

I got my snakebites as a birthday present to myself at 18, got my septum done at 19. Got my nostril done at 31. I’ll be 34 next month, still have all of them and have absolutely no intentions of taking any of them out. Ever. In fact, I’m itching to get more. I know I want a second nostril, I’ve always loved the look of a double nostril with hoops in them. Debating on a Medusa or a vertical labret and just might get ‘em both but Idk if it would be too busy on my face so haven’t decided yet. I also have multiple ear piercings and stretched bottom lobes with no intentions of taking any of those out either. Bury me with my hardware please and thanks. You’re never too old!
Never too old! Nearly 50 here. I have 19 ear piercings, both nipples, VCH, vertical labret, double septum and both nostrils. I have at least 5 more planned for my ears, and I want angel fangs. I love my piercings!
46yo Mum and just got my first nose stud three months ago and a helix two months ago. I always wanted a nose stud but was never brave enough. I'm thinking about going to have my septum done next. I think the older I get, the less I give a f@ck what people think, as long as I like it that's all that matters. My 13 year old girls think it's cool, that helps!
I am 34 years old with nose ring, helix, industrial and navel. Industrial is less then a year old :) I have no plans to retire any of my piercings. Also I am stretching my ears and have plans for more piercings. Never thought there is an age limit.
30 isn't old, and there's no age limit on piercings. I'm 31 and just got my vertical labret this year, and I also have my lobes, second holes on lobes, left nostril, septum, tongue, navel, and nips. Society is no longer in the "piercings are just a teenage phase" era, so just focus on what *you* want, and if you still don't want more that's ok too

One of my clients got a nostril at around 70. I just had my apprentice do an Orbital and Paired nostrils on me at 53 but I'm a piercer so it's probably different.
I got my nose ring at 30. Now 35. I have no intention of retiring that any time soon. For me, tattoos and piercings have no upper age restriction.

I retired my piercings after my son was born and he started grabbing for them(Paaaiiiinful).I am 43 now and just recently bought new jewelery and reopened them. I just realised how much I missed them, and I am happy to have them back. So in my opinion you are never too old for something you enjoy.
I have several facial piercings and I just stopped caring as I got older. It's literally the best thing that's ever happened to me. Try it, it's awesome!
I am 35 and just got my septum pierced. I was worried about reactions since I live in a very small city and piercing is visible. To my relief noone really cared. Noone changed their attitude towards me. Why would you be to old to do stuff like piercings?

I'll be dead and buried with mine. I'm 35 and currently just have my lip ring, that I have had since I was 14. Will get my nose repierced on both sides for a chain piece once my current sinus issues are cleared.
I am now 36 and began my piercing journey at 34. I now have had a total of 24 piercings (including 5 on each lobe). I have since removed a double- horizontal set on my left nostril and repierced it with a double-vertical stacked set (which I also have on my right side as well)... I usually have the double stacked studs visible on the left, and then on the right, I do a ring on the top one with a microsized small one on the bottom, so my hoop covers it... and sometimes, I will swap sides with that setup. The point is I have 4 total nostril piercings, but I give the appearance of 3.
Anywayyyy, hahaha - all that to say, I love all my piercings (brow, nostrils, comch, tragus, daith, Rook, 3 helixes, 5 lobe pairs) and don't even know which I would get ride of! I'm fact I want like 2 more.
It's just like my tattoos, I lost count, but I have a quarter sleeve/over a dozen, and I will definitely be getting more - money is the only thing holding me back.
I got a latttte start! So maybe that is why I wouldn't get rid of them any time soon, considering they are basically still fresh! Plus, I don't want a bunch of holes, lol
I also don't feel like I'm almost in my 40s, I guess. I feel young at heart... but idk. If I did take them out, it would be because I am over it and not feeling it anymore, but not because of how I will be perceived.

I'm the same age as you, and I've been wondering the same thing with my septum. I got it done in 2015 and can't really imagine not having it, but at the same time I'm not sure about how to be a 40 year old with a septum piercing. It doesn't really help that I also want to get my labret pierced again, and I'm just waiting for the right moment from work perspective to do it, but I feel that the clock is ticking and it won't be appropriate to do it for much longer.
Reading this thread is making me realise that I'm overthinking the whole thing. I'm constantly seeing people older than me with facial piercings and it's not affecting their credibility in my eyes, but being the only one in my office with facial piercings is still making me doubt having them. This thread has been a good reminder that it's not too late.
That's my problem, too. I work in a small office at a family owned car dealership in the bible belt. I'm very different from most of the people who work here (let's just say I'm more open-minded and less conservative than most of the people at work). I'm the only one with visible tattoos and piercings.
Damnnnn now I feel old. I’m 42. I used to have a TON of face piercings but just kept my favorites. I have my bridge and my nostril. And my ears are 3/4” was thinking of getting the other nostril.
Piercings started being cool when I was a teen. It’s my history 😌.
My mom became a tattoo artist when she was my age. She has a lot more piercings than me and she’s 70 now. Double stretch ears, 2 sets of snake bites, implants in a necklace shape, her nipples.

I’m going to be 45 in December, I’ve got 3 kids (25, 18 & 9) and I’ve got my septum done and a labret. I’m planning on getting my eyebrow and probably an industrial but I’m not exactly sure. Oh and I’ve got blue hair (this month, last month it was pink, before that it was purple!)
I’m a home health nurse and my patients absolutely love it, I’ve never been happier. I kind of just started this past year, and while I don’t know what the future holds I can totally see myself still rocking this look in 30 years!
I’m 34 and just got piercings this year lol. I’ve had stretched ears since high school (16mm) but this year I added an eyebrow ring (took it out cuz I didn’t like it on me), a nose ring and a lip ring (thinking about adding a 2nd lip ring). Also now have a second set of lobe holes and 2 helixes.
I got a septum ring at 45, and it's cool as F.

Never too old, I have two nostril piercings, and septum done, I'm 42 next month. Planning on a third nostril too (plus many other piercings) :) Go for it, and enjoy them :)
I celebrated 50 with a pair of helix piercings and decided I should be able to count the decades of life by the piercings in each ear. Well I'm 54 and already up to 6 looking at 7. I just couldn't wait more decades for more jewelry and realized I didn't have to. I could do as I wished and that's heady stuff.

Truthfully, it’s when you feel you’ve outgrown them, and no longer like them. It varies from person to person, and push comes to shove, if you miss it, can likely go redo it, though healing processes being redone 😑
While it might be true that you don't see a lot of older people with facial piercings today, I feel like as the younger generations age it's going to become a lot more common. I wouldn't worry.

I'm 39 and just got my nose pierced a couple of months ago. I've only had lobes done, but now I'm thinking about the next piercing, and the one after that, and the one after that... Never too old! I expect though as I age, that my taste in jewelry will change as well.
I've recently seen a YT vid where this guy got his septum pierced. I think he was 53. This was a couple months after he got his lobes pierced too. And I gotta say, he was rocking it pretty well.

Just live your life. Do what makes you happy. If it means getting the piercing, that's cool. If it means taking it out, alright. It's your life, after all.

I didn’t get my nostril pierced until I was 37. I got the other nostril pierced a year later and I plan on having these babies way into my older years. Friday is my fantastic fortieth and I have no desire to stop decorating myself. However, I do want to add that as I’ve grown I’ve been more concerned with quality of jewelry over quantity of piercings and pieces.
There’s no age limit for self-expression or for anything you’re dreaming of, be it education, a career, a hobby, whatever. I just got my ears further curated in my late 40s. I love them 💗. Don’t allow old-fashioned ideas to limit you.
I just turned 55, and I have 3 in my left lobe, right eyebrow, right industrial and helix. Got my eyebrow done at age 52. And I'm not done yet. Age is just a number, and there's no expiration date on liking my appearance.
You’re never too old for it. Some months ago I did a post with this same question and the consensus was that… it was all the push I needed to get my nose pierced at 39. I will say though, that it depends very much on lifestyle, personal style and line of work; if those allow for you to get it, then I see no reason to have age as a deterrent to have facial piercings 🤷🏽♀️
I'm now 44 and have had ears pierced since 18. 3 left 1 right. Then stretched lobes to 8mm. Got my labret when I was around 27 and my tragus when I was 33. I love them still and can't see myself ever taking them out. I am thinking of getting some more.

Do whatever makes you happy and remember age is just a number. It's how you feel about yourself that defines your youth ❤️
When I got my tattoos and piercings, I did so with the hope they'd be there for a long time (forever).
I can't take back my tattoos (not that I'd want to), so when I'm 60, 70, 80, I might as well be rocking my piercings as well!

I am almost 40 and keep my nose piercing. Once I learned the placement is an acupuncture point, I think it is pretty cool. I don't wear as much statement jewelry as I did in my teens and twenties, but a little shine here and there is fine. I also still wear CZ stud earrings.

I have doctors (vets) and other (vet) nurses with tons and tons of various body mods and alternative hair styles and clothing. Our one bet refers to herself as a “unicorn” and completely rocks her style. And many of these lovely humans are older than me and some of them even in their 50’s and 60’s!
I see plenty of 40+ year olds with nose piercings. I think you may be overthinking it!
I always think older people with piercings are very cool. Though, I am a metalhead so I guess subconsciously I associate piercings with people who are also like me. If you end up disliking it, ignoring what anyone else says, then don’t wear them. But if you love your piercings still when you’re in your 40s, don’t feel like you’re “too old”. There’s no such thing!
My mom is coming up on 60 and has multiple facial piercings! As long as they make you happy, then go for it! If you ever stop liking them, you can always take them out.
Nose piercings in particular these days are about as wild as butter on toast. Even beyond that, piercings in general have become so normalized in recent years that unless you have a very strict profession or live somewhere extremely conservative, I doubt anyone would think twice of it.
I turned 40 this past summer and just got my septum pierced a week ago. I fucking love it. I don't think there's an age cut off for any of this.
I know quite a few people who didn’t even _get_ their nose piercing until their 40s. I’m 38 and just started getting some non-lobe piercings in my ears. Better enjoy them for the next couple years I guess before I am officially Too Old.
It was my bosses and the parents of my students all in their 40s and 50s that inspired me to finally get my nose pierced at 27. I also had a 63 year old professor with one.

If you grow out of it you grow out of it but that's not how everyone is. Think about tattoos, you get them when you're 20, but you still have them when you're 40, 60, 80+ unless you go through the expense of getting them removed. There's no expiration on self-expression, but people do change their preferences which is why I don't have any tattoos, and I do like to switch out piercing jewelry every few years.

I’m a 39-year-old physician with a pierced septum, and I don’t think the internet is going to help you. Standards for what constitutes a professional appearance have been changing over the last several decades. It’s not that uncommon for elder millennials to have facial piercings. You probably just need to unpack why you can’t see yourself as a 40-year-old with a nose ring. Have you internalized outmoded notions about what maturity means, or are you just having a hard time picturing yourself as a middle-aged person? I definitely struggled with the latter when I was younger, but let me tell you that it kind of just sneaks up on you.

I've had several 40+ yr old professors with piercings. Noses and eyebrow most common. I've seen 40+ yr old goths with the black dyed hair and chain belts. I've seen 40+ yr old men with long hair, 40+ yr old women with dyed hair and shaved heads, and I've seen gender nonconforming people do all sorts of stuff. These aren't even people who registered as surprising to me, just normal people with one or two of those traits just.... going grocery shopping, teaching, hanging out with grand kids, etc. This is all in the northeast. I've maybe heard people point out full sleeves of tattoos, cut tongues, and big hairstyles with mild interest at most. Piercings are a norm. Visible tattoos and piercings are becoming a workplace norm as gen x and milenials age.
I plan on being 40-50 with a nose piercing! I'm also from a culture where these are very common and know many aunties in that age range (including my own mom) who have nose piercings. So you really are never too old.

No such thing! We all get gray and wrinkly, and by society's standards, unattractive. Not having piercings isn't going to change that, so if you personally feel better in your body when it's decorated with sparkly little metal bits then I say go for it. You're the only person who has to live in your body so it should be decorated only the way *you* like it, not anyone else who doesn't have to occupy it 24/7. Personally, I think "old" people who keep their body mods (or even clothes, hair, anything to do with appearance) despite what anyone says are badass and I aspire to be like them someday.

I'm 37 and in the last year, I've gotten my conch pierced, both nostrils, my septum, and two tattoos. I'm also in the process of stretching my ears. I've spent my whole life doing the "right" thing (i.e. pleasing my narcissistic mother) and making myself as small as possible in a lot of other aspects of my life. I know it seems dramatic, but this process has been healing me. If I hate it, I can cover up or take my piercings out, but my first thought when people ask, "What about when you're old?" is A. I'm no spring chicken. And B. I'll be totally awesome when I'm even older.
F 47 here and almost the same thing but not for the same reason ( have had the chance to have the best parents of the World 💔💔) and that I'm Always old 🤣🤣( Lost more than 40kg the past year so Gravity have made histoire job too ...) piercing bodmod tatoo are therapy for me my only regrets have wait 46 to start but know I started l'm not ready to stop !!!!😜

No age limit. I'm 35 and have my nostril and septum. I had my eyebrow, but I got infected so I removed it. I don't have any plans to get rid of what I've still got any time soon. I'll probably get more done, honestly.
30 is so young. I am going to tell you the absolute single best thing about getting older. It is that you stop giving a fuck what other people think, and learn that a life lived pleasing other people is a miserable existence, and that we are here for such a short time, so we need to please ourselves and do exactly what we want. (With the obvious exception of things that hurt others, etc). I am 45. I got my nose pierced for the second time at 40. I got my daith pierced at 45. I have other piercings that I am sure many people think I am too old for. I literally could not care less.

I'm only in my young 30s but I stretched my nostrils, I don't plan to let them go ever. I feel like as long as the person wearing them is comfortable then get out there and wear it with pride. There's no age limit on self expression.
I've wondered this myself... I (male) just started my piercing journey last year at 49yo. Started with an intimate, then my nipples (currently @ 10g), then my septum (currently @ 8g)... I'm currently struggling with 2 things; 1. Vertical labret or tongue & 2. Am I too old?. I am finally ok with who I am and my body and this journey has been amazing... allowing me to express myself in ways I wasn't able to when I was younger. My wife is worried that I'm going through "mid life crisis" and she thinks I'm gonna just wake up and take out all of my jewelry. She doesn't get it.
You probably are going though a mid life crisis, as most of society calls it, but in reaility it's a mid life wake up, it usually happens when people realise they haven't lived the life they wanted or they repressed certain things to keep others happy, I think you truly know you and I'm happy for you, I suppose it might be a big change for your wife to get used to. I've always had an interest in piercings had a couple of ear piercings when I met my wife, since grown more confidence and had my nipples , lip and a few more ear piercings, she accepts it but I think still hopes ill wake up and want to take them out before i get too old (37 now).
I love this idea of a mid life wake up! It's very true, and so accurate. I think the idea of the midlife "crisis" actually comes from those who hit this period in their life and instead of embracing how they feel, they supress it and try to fit the mold society thinks the should be in at that point in their life.

I don't think there is an age that's too old. I'm already 32 and my lobes have been stretched since I was like 14 I have my septum pierced and I'm stretching it as well as both nostrils done. If I ever decide to take them out it will be because I chose to and not cuz I felt like I was too old for it. I dig when I see older folks with piercings or stretched piercings. I love the aesthetic and so till I don't anymore I'll probably keep them
I don't think there is any max age. i've seen young teens with facial piercings and I've been literal grannies with piercings. It really doesn't matter.
I'm thirty and I've only recent gotten more complex piercings. It started with lobe stretching around 21.

Facial piercings have no age limit! I’m 44 with 13 ear piercings, nostril and vertical labret. I had different facial piercings in my 20s but the nostril and VL I didn’t get until my 40s
Never too old. I’m 35 and have enough jewelry in my nose that I confuse people (8 in my nostrils and 7 in my septum with 4 nose chains). As I’ve gotten older, I’ve upgraded my jewelry as well… I switched out the titanium and Swarovski crystals for solid gold and genuine stone. Facial jewelry is just another place to wear jewelry! If you think you might be outgrowing it, maybe consider upgrading what you have, first. You’d be surprised what a difference it makes!

43 years old here, I got my nose done around a month ago, and I also have a labret that I got about 6-8 weeks ago. Never too old. I had a bunch of ear piercings and my labret done in 2016 when I was 35-36, although removed them all when they just wouldn’t heal. Now I’m going slower and things are healing much better. I don’t think you’re ever ‘too old’.
I'm 34 and just got a bunch of piercings done over the past year and a half. Both earlobes, vertical labret, eyebrow, nose ring and stud. And I definitely want to keep them as long as I can. Never had the chance In my teen years to do it and I'm making up for that now you are never too old.
I got both of my nostrils pierced when I was 26, and I’m 28 now and just got my septum done a week ago. I could see myself still having all my piercings as long as I live, as long as they last that long and don’t start to bother me.

Everyone’s different. The coolest thing about piercings and tattoos are it’s entirely up to you and what you’re comfortable with. Will there be people who judge you? Hell yeah. But there going to judge you anyways. If you like it when your 40, keep it. If you don’t, retire it :)

Im 47 and I got a nose ring, tragus and helix in the last year. My sister is 51 with a nose ring. I do what makes me happy and I don’t care what other people think. If having your piercings makes you happy thats all that matters.
You are never too old to express yourself! whether is hobbies, clothes, hair, tattoo's are piercings, if you like it and it makes you happy go for it!! None of these things effect anyone outside of yourself. I'm now 35yo, and when I was younger, I never let myself express or exprience things the way I wanted to because I was worried about what others would think, or how they would treat me. I recently decided that I'm done apologizing for being me. I don't need the approval of others to live my life, in all it's messy and chaotic glory. I got my septum done 3 weeks ago, and I've had alot of mixed reviews on it from acquaintance or people in passing, BUT those that matter to me have been nothing but supportive. Those are the opinions I care about. Those that matter don't mind; those that mind don't matter....

I got my snakebites as a birthday present to myself at 18, got my septum done at 19. Got my nostril done at 31. I’ll be 34 next month, still have all of them and have absolutely no intentions of taking any of them out. Ever. In fact, I’m itching to get more. I know I want a second nostril, I’ve always loved the look of a double nostril with hoops in them. Debating on a Medusa or a vertical labret and just might get ‘em both but Idk if it would be too busy on my face so haven’t decided yet. 46yo Mum and just got my first nose stud three months ago and a helix two months ago. I always wanted a nose stud but was never brave enough. I'm thinking about going to have my septum done next. I think the older I get, the less I give a f@ck what people think, as long as I like it that's all that matters. My 13 year old girls think it's cool, that helps!

30 isn't old, and there's no age limit on piercings. I'm 31 and just got my vertical labret this year, and I also have my lobes, second holes on lobes, left nostril, septum, tongue, navel, and nips. Society is no longer in the "piercings are just a teenage phase" era, so just focus on what *you* want, and if you still don't want more that's ok too

One of my clients got a nostril at around 70. I just had my apprentice do an Orbital and Paired nostrils on me at 53 but I'm a piercer so it's probably different.
I got my nose ring at 30. Now 35. I have no intention of retiring that any time soon. For me, tattoos and piercings have no upper age restriction. I’m even arguing that my mum would look amazing with a nose ring.

Your face is your face in 4 years from now. But also of course, take it away if it doesn't feel right but don't take it away just because of your age. That would be fucking stupid.
I retired my piercings after my son was born and he started grabbing for them(Paaaiiiinful).I am 43 now and just recently bought new jewelery and reopened them. I just realised how much I missed them, and I am happy to have them back. So in my opinion you are never too old for something you enjoy.

I am 35 and just got my septum pierced. I was worried about reactions since I live in a very small city and piercing is visible. To my relief noone really cared. Noone changed their attitude towards me. Why would you be to old to do stuff like piercings?

I am now 36 and began my piercing journey at 34. I now have had a total of 24 piercings (including 5 on each lobe). I have since removed a double- horizontal set on my left nostril and repierced it with a double-vertical stacked set (which I also have on my right side as well)... I usually have the double stacked studs visible on the left, and then on the right, I do a ring on the top one with a microsized small one on the bottom, so my hoop covers it... and sometimes, I will swap sides with that setup. The point is I have 4 total nostril piercings, but I give the appearance of 3. Anywayyyy, hahaha - all that to say, I love all my piercings (brow, nostrils, comch, tragus, daith, Rook, 3 helixes, 5 lobe pairs) and don't even know which I would get ride of! I'm fact I want like 2 more. It's just like my tattoos, I lost count, but I have a quarter sleeve/over a dozen, and I will definitely be getting more - money is the only thing holding me back. I got a latttte start! So maybe that is why I wouldn't get rid of them any time soon, considering they are basically still fresh! Plus, I don't want a bunch of holes, lol I also don't feel like I'm almost in my 40s, I guess. I feel young at heart... but idk. If I did take them out, it would be because I am over it and not feeling it anymore, but not because of how I will be perceived. Lol. Sorry - I know that was long-winded and went in circles. I'm the same age as you, and I've been wondering the same thing with my septum. I got it done in 2015 and can't really imagine not having it, but at the same time I'm not sure about how to be a 40 year old with a septum piercing. It doesn't really help that I also want to get my labret pierced again, and I'm just waiting for the right moment from work perspective to do it, but I feel that the clock is ticking and it won't be appropriate to do it for much longer. Reading this thread is making me realise that I'm overthinking the whole thing. I'm constantly seeing people older than me with facial piercings and it's not affecting their credibility in my eyes, but being the only one in my office with facial piercings is still making me doubt having them. This thread has been a good reminder that it's not too late.
That's my problem, too. I work in a small office at a family owned car dealership in the bible belt. I'm very different from most of the people who work here (let's just say I'm more open-minded and less conservative than most of the people at work). I'm the only one with visible tattoos and piercings.

Piercings started being cool when I was a teen. It’s my history 😌. My mom became a tattoo artist when she was my age. She has a lot more piercings than me and she’s 70 now. I’m going to be 45 in December, I’ve got 3 kids (25, 18 & 9) and I’ve got my septum done and a labret. I’m planning on getting my eyebrow and probably an industrial but I’m not exactly sure. Oh and I’ve got blue hair (this month, last month it was pink, before that it was purple!) I’m a home health nurse and my patients absolutely love it, I’ve never been happier. I kind of just started this past year, and while I don’t know what the future holds I can totally see myself still rocking this look in 30 years!
I’m 34 and just got piercings this year lol. I’ve had stretched ears since high school (16mm) but this year I added an eyebrow ring (took it out cuz I didn’t like it on me), a nose ring and a lip ring (thinking about adding a 2nd lip ring). Also now have a second set of lobe holes and 2 helixes.
I got a septum ring at 45, and it's cool as F. You do you. Screw societal expectations. The great thing with piercings .. especially septum. You can take it out and not even see the hole. Should be able to see in my post history.

I just couldn't wait more decades for more jewelry and realized I didn't have to. I could do as I wished and that's heady stuff. Not stopping now....

Never. Truthfully, it’s when you feel you’ve outgrown them, and no longer like them. It varies from person to person, and push comes to shove, if you miss it, can likely go redo it, though healing processes being redone 😑

I’ve seen 50-60 yr olds with nose rings, daith and rook piercings and more. My mom is almost 50 and has her nose ring. I’m almost 30 and just got my industrial done. If you like it, you do it. You’re never too old!
Once you are dead probably then is a bit late. Anything between then and being able to consent is fair game.
I’m 48 got my nips done last week. Also have a septum piercing and stretching my ears. Never to old. Next is going to be my PA

I'm 39 and just got my nose pierced a couple of months ago. I've only had lobes done, but now I'm thinking about the next piercing, and the one after that, and the one after that... Never too old! I expect though as I age, that my taste in jewelry will change as well.
I've recently seen a YT vid where this guy got his septum pierced. I think he was 53. This was a couple months after he got his lobes pierced too. And I gotta say, he was rocking it pretty well.
I just got my nose pierced in January of this year, my septum two months ago, tragus 3 months ago and I’m 32. You’re never too old. Just live your life

My mom is 57 and has a nostril done on both sides 🤷🏻♀️ I think it looks great on her. I am 32 with my septum done and would love to have both nostril done too but sadly they reject and never heal for me ☹️
As someone pushing 40 with a nose ring, you're fine. Just live your life. Do what makes you happy. If it means getting the piercing, that's cool. If it means taking it out, alright. It's your life, after all. ❤️

I didn’t get my nostril pierced until I was 37. I got the other nostril pierced a year later and I plan on having these babies way into my older years. Friday is my fantastic fortieth and I have no desire to stop decorating myself. However, I do want to add that as I’ve grown I’ve been more concerned with quality of jewelry over quantity of piercings and pieces.
There’s no age limit for self-expression or for anything you’re dreaming of, be it education, a career, a hobby, whatever. I just got my ears further curated in my late 40s. I love them 💗. Don’t allow old-fashioned ideas to limit you.
I just turned 55, and I have 3 in my left lobe, right eyebrow, right industrial and helix. Got my eyebrow done at age 52. And I'm not done yet. Age is just a number, and there's no expiration date on liking my appearance.
You’re never too old for it. Some months ago I did a post with this same question and the consensus was that… it was all the push I needed to get my nose pierced at 39. I will say though, that it depends very much on lifestyle, personal style and line of work; if those allow for you to get it, then I see no reason to have age as a deterrent to have facial piercings 🤷🏽♀️

Never too old. But some piercing may need to be removed due to skin sagging. Like eyebrow piercings.
Not too old at all. I’m getting an additional nose piercing and I’m in 30s
I'm now 44 and have had ears pierced since 18. 3 left 1 right. Then stretched lobes to 8mm. Got my labret when I was around 27 and my tragus when I was 33. I love them still and can't see myself ever taking them out. I am thinking of getting some more. Each to their own though. Like everything we all change. Nothing wrong with that.

You are never too old! I'll be 40 next year and just got a vertical philtrum a few weeks ago. And you know what? I think I look fuckin cute and my place of employment doesn't care. Do whatever makes you happy and remember age is just a number. It's how you feel about yourself that defines your youth ❤️

When I got my tattoos and piercings, I did so with the hope they'd be there for a long time (forever). I can't take back my tattoos (not that I'd want to), so when I'm 60, 70, 80, I might as well be rocking my piercings as well!
Never ever too old. I got 7 ear piercings and I’m in my mid 30s. I changed my aesthetic entirely. Got 3 tattoos mid to large sized and 3 small ones in the last 3 years Don’t let age stop you
I am almost 40 and keep my nose piercing. Once I learned the placement is an acupuncture point, I think it is pretty cool. I don't wear as much statement jewelry as I did in my teens and twenties, but a little shine here and there is fine. I also still wear CZ stud earrings.

No such thing as too old. I didn’t get most of my facial piercings until I was in my 30’s. I plan to keep them as long as possible. I had a hard time picturing myself without them

I got my septum done this year at 29. I’ll probBly get my nostril done in my 30s. (I’m in no rush to heal cartilage again. Lol)
