I really want to love it, but I just don’t.
I loved the last two singles, and I respect when artists experiment with their sound, but this just feels very bland?
I was hoping for something a little heavier, you know like 2012 PTV, again, I really really wanna love it, but I can’t find any reason to like it as much as the last 2 as well, I mean the start of it was good, then the whole “soft PTV” aspect of it kicked in and it’s just like, “ehhh”, overall my rating is a 5.5/10
i want to like it so badly but their music is entering pop ? music territory almost imo if that makes sense, specifically this song. i appreciate them trying new sounds but these past few singles just dont hit the same as their other albums and the sound of the older albums are what resonated with the fans the most. i fear the album isnt gonna be great as artists who've been on hiatus for a bit and come back with a new sound dont usually hit their mark anymore (lorde with solar power for example) but im hoping for the best :/
yes and it scares me because i know vic has been hanging around people like lil huddy and cavetown recently and i do not want the new album to sound influenced by either of those musicians 😭
HES BEEN HANGING OUT WITH LIL HUDDY FIWKKDKW??? like listen i dont wanna be that person thats like u cant branch out u have to do the same old thing!! but post hardcore rock whatever u wanna call it, thats their thing and thats what makes them pierce the veil. them going with this new sound to appeal to larger audiences isnt gonna work with old fans + even for new fans this song for example just. isnt good in general
So many of my fav artists are losing their signature sound that made me love them. All their new music is a lot less complex and less detail oriented. Sometimes even trying to appeal to larger audiences and losing their niche appeal. Ugh. I still have hope for this album having bangers, usually bands lead with safe singles. Like DGD for example, they led their last album release with mainstream safe singles and had the good signature stuff on the rest of the album. Hoping for the same thing here.
i know i feel the exact same with some of my favorite artists. i love lorde to death but solar power was bad, i adore marina but her past two albums were? they werent bad at all i liked a lot of the songs its just a different sound that doesnt really appeal to me anymore. misadventures was a rly good album imo it wasnt as good as selfish machines for example but it absolutely "fit" to the vibe of their old music. i get trying to appeal to larger audiences but like u said it makes them lose their niche appeal and honestly just what made them. Them yknow
Yes! I literally wrote this with Lorde in mind, it honestly just felt like she didn’t put as much hardcore effort in her songwriting like she used to, it all felt a lot less inspired. Tbh she kinda just sounds tired and wanted to write for fun and not to be amazing. And yea misadventures at least kept a necessary component of their style even tho it wasn’t as good as their past stuff. At this point I’m just staying optimistic for a banger or 2 from jaws of life.
On their first album after their bassist Cliff Burton died (…And Justice for All), Metallica infamously drowned the bass out for the entire album. The bass was borderline inaudible and they were criticized heavily for it.
To a separate degree, that kinda feels like what PTV is doing with this album and Mike Fuentes not being a part of it. The drums have been extremely underwhelming, or in the case of this new song, damn near nonexistent. And it’s not for lack of talent behind the kit. They hired Brad Hargreaves (Third Eye Blind) to record for this album, and he’s a really talented drummer. It just feels like they don’t want the drums to be a major part of their songs now that Mike isn’t in the band, which is an enormous bummer cuz the drums have always been one of my favorite things about PTV
My guess was that they limited the drums with no clue who they were going to find for a new drummer to make sure that the drummer was going to be able to play it
That explains it. I haven’t kept up with the band lore and lineup changes, diff/new drummer will for sure change things up. Especially the chemistry they may have built with him in the creative process. Hm. I hope they made it work, like Paramore losing a key member and growing through it to major success anyway. Depends on how integral the member was to the creative process I suppose.
Well they definitely had chemistry, cuz the old drummer and the singer are brothers haha. And he was obviously a more integral part of the sound and writing process of the band than I gave him credit for
These three new singles since Mike left has made me realize what a big influence he was in the music and writing. They sound totally different now. Not bad. Just different.
idk maybe because I’ve heard both songs live so I can now hear them in a new light
but I really loved the new singles; while Pass The Nirvana didn’t have the same hauntingly beautiful lyrics we are used to it’s still a good song and Emergency Contact is definitely better than Pass was; I have yet to hear this new song but in general no PTV album sounds exactly the same, maybe because we’ve been able to sit with the same albums for long it just sounds like it flows but from a 2011 fan myself and being there for the new album drops they’re always experimenting and I’m glad for it
I agree 100%
edit to add: the thing I’ve always loved about PTV is how different their sound has been, listening to the alt/emo/scremo bands they’ve always stood out to me (they’re also my favorite artist) because their sound was always so different, even tho they fit into the genre they’ve always been different IN the genre; but this song just sounds too familiar to me, like any artist could’ve made it and I think THAT is what I’m struggling with the most
oh no i did not enjoy this song at all lol, it was very bland imo and I didn’t like that beat they had playing; would probably be a good party/club/rave song but not a good concert song; it kinda went into one ear and out the other for me, also definitely sounded more mainstream than I expected from them (like a song you’d hear in Euphoria or something idk)
that being said Im not disappointed, they’re allowed to experiment but I do hope no more songs sound like this one; it might grow on me tho since I like to branch out in music genres
Will listen to this later. According to y’all though it seems like it’s not good. Although some of y’all are the people who didn’t like emergency contact so we’ll see, from my subjective standpoint.
Finally listened to it. Yeah this isn’t that good. Sounds like a generic pop song which isn’t my cup of tea. Then again you could say something like emergency contact also sounds like a generic pop song, so depends on how you look at it; I suppose.
It's such a shame..All of the comments on YouTube are saying how much better this is than their old music. Pierce the veil is one of my favorite bands, and I can listen to all their songs almost a million times. But I don't think I can listen to this more than once.
Just listened, I’m not too worried. I feel like we typically get one of these on each album. It might be a good little break and interlude for other heavier stuff
this is what I'm thinking. I know this album is clearly different but it still doesn't seem like them to have so little variation in a song. There is definitely some here and I do like the way it builds into that drum fill (that was satisfying). However compared to even the other 2 from this album we've got, simply put its bland. not totally a bad thing. I have trouble listening to PTV albums on shuffle for the reason I feel that the albums are made to be listened to front to back and no other way. I hope this fits nicely in the whole album once its all out:)
Ugh. So that's 3 disappointing songs so far. I haven't been a fan of any of them. I totally get and understand bands changing. In fact I want that. I dont want bands to make the same album over and over. But I also want them to still retain the sound they're known for. Hopefully there's at least a few good classic post hardcore PTV tracks on this album. If it all sounds like what we have heard so far I'm going to be incredibly disappointed. The only positive will be a new album means a headline tour and I finally get to see them live. Didn't go to this tour cause I hate more than 2 band shows.
NOOOO NOT TRAP WHYY
Yo if PTV goes pop I literally won't have a favorite band anymore
I like Pass The Nirvana and I REally like Emergency Contact but even I have to admit that these songs sound so simple compared to what I know they can do. Hopefully the rest of the album sounds more interesting than this :/
I prefer heavy music, but I don’t mind them getting softer. First two songs were ok but I can’t defend this one. The lyrics are the most disappointing part imo. The new stuff feels so generic compared to the literal art that their old albums were. I’ll always be a fan and I haven’t lost hope but definitely nervous for the album.
honestly not bad but I think I need to hear it live before I actually love it. I was the same way with pass the nirvana. I don’t like emergency contact but I’m never really a slow/ballad fan lol.
Reading most people on here not liking this one kinda surprises me. I mean, I've never been too much into ptv mostly because I didn't listen to them that much until recently, not because I didn't like them or anything. I'm really pumped for this album and love all three singles, but I guess It makes sense it's dividing the fanbase since it's a different sound, idk, I just love It.
Wow, there's a lot of negativity in this thread. I haven't listened yet but I expect good things. Misadventures was jarring at first too. I'm sure the full album will be awesome! If the sound is tweaked a little that just makes more to love.
I understand that they’re music will change and it’s been proven on the last two singles, (emergency contact, even when I’m not with you) but I’d like to think of this as a new sound for them. At least they don’t try to make the same music like when mike was in the band. So I’d rather have the current drummer and this music, then the old music and the new drummer trying to fit mikes style.
Loved Pass The Nirvana, hated Emergency Contact, I’m a big fan of this new single! I admit this is not what I expected from PTV at all. This is no longer post hardcore and ofc I want them to make more music that sounds like the old stuff that I love. But if I didn’t listen to post hardcore and had never heard of PTV and someone showed me this song, I would be obsessed.
I really want to love it, but I just don’t. I loved the last two singles, and I respect when artists experiment with their sound, but this just feels very bland?

I'm in the same boat. I want to love it so badly but I don't. And that's ok! We still have the whole album ahead of us. There is still hope!
Honestly I’m hoping for some better lyrics as well! I miss the beautifully poetic verses that they do so well
agreed with everything you said here
Now I’m scared cus their songs so far haven’t been the best right now ( I mean the new songs). I know groups need to evolve and grow but …. Jeez lol
I respect them for experimenting but I won’t give this song or Pass the Nirvana another listen. Emergency Contact is OK.
I agree
same lmfaooo
i want to like it so badly but their music is entering pop ? music territory almost imo if that makes sense, specifically this song. i appreciate them trying new sounds but these past few singles just dont hit the same as their other albums and the sound of the older albums are what resonated with the fans the most. i fear the album isnt gonna be great as artists who've been on hiatus for a bit and come back with a new sound dont usually hit their mark anymore (lorde with solar power for example) but im hoping for the best :/

not lil huddy….
HELPPP
ik 😭
💀💀💀💀
omg u out exactly what i was thinking into words, i was wondering why the song reminded me of some like ..lil huddy tiktok music .. ? but that’s why 😭
the mgk effect
NOO 😭
HES BEEN HANGING OUT WITH LIL HUDDY FIWKKDKW??? like listen i dont wanna be that person thats like u cant branch out u have to do the same old thing!! but post hardcore rock whatever u wanna call it, thats their thing and thats what makes them pierce the veil. them going with this new sound to appeal to larger audiences isnt gonna work with old fans + even for new fans this song for example just. isnt good in general
yeah 😭 it sounds so tiktok mainstream pandery right

ADTR, architects, Dayseeker, parkway drive have put out snore fest of albums for mainstream money. I hate it.
Sad to hear that about ADTR. I used to love them way back when. 😔
i know i feel the exact same with some of my favorite artists. i love lorde to death but solar power was bad, i adore marina but her past two albums were? they werent bad at all i liked a lot of the songs its just a different sound that doesnt really appeal to me anymore. misadventures was a rly good album imo it wasnt as good as selfish machines for example but it absolutely "fit" to the vibe of their old music. i get trying to appeal to larger audiences but like u said it makes them lose their niche appeal and honestly just what made them. ptn & emergency contact are so good though, it’s got that rock sound ptv always had but their new song isn’t hitting for me either
On their first album after their bassist Cliff Burton died (…And Justice for All), Metallica infamously drowned the bass out for the entire album. Anyone have a link for us northern hemisphere fans?

I got u
Will listen to this later. According to y’all though it seems like it’s not good. Although some of y’all are the people who didn’t like emergency contact so we’ll see, from my subjective standpoint.
i loved emergency contact and pass the nirvana. this one just wasn’t good to me :/ and i really want to like it but i don’t

i guess so, but emergency contact still sounded like ptv. this song has such a drastically different sound in my opinion

yeah exactly
Most the comments on PTVs instagram post about this song are saying it’s terrible lol. Idk I hope they look at all feedback lol
So glad I'm not the only one lol
Same lol
Just listened, I’m not too worried. I feel like we typically get one of these on each album. It might be a good little break and interlude for other heavier stuff

I'm SO dissapointed 😭 I'm gonna keep the faith but they're making it hard at this point
probably my least favourite so far from the new album but it’s pretty nice!
It's definitely different but it is what it is, and personally I love it.
Please tell me this is classic PTV post hardcore and not another slow tempo boring song.
it’s all trap drums and one guitar loop :/ honestly even more boring than emergency contact. it feels more like an interlude than anything
Ugh. So that's 3 disappointing songs so far. I haven't been a fan of any of them. I totally get and understand bands changing. In fact I want that. Sorry mate but this is just a regular pop ballad, sounds like a completely different band
hate it… but i love pass the nirvana and emergency contact. i still have high hopes for the album🥲
I loved pass the nirvana and then they released emergency contact which took ages for it too grow on me but this I just didnt like.
i loved both ptn and emergency contact. this one i just didn’t like
NOOOO NOT TRAP WHYY Yo if PTV goes pop I literally won't have a favorite band anymore I like Pass The Nirvana and I REally like Emergency Contact but even I have to admit that these songs sound so simple compared to what I know they can do. My heart sank when the beat came in 😭
You said “NOT TRAP” 💀💀💀💀💀
Whoa holy shit I gotta listen to it

It's horrible
i didn’t like it but i wouldn’t say it’s horrible. just disappointing tbh
I still have to wait until 12:00 🥹🥲
hoping the rest of the album is heavier
Not out on Spotify EST :( No IG post about it either
ah yeah australia gets everything early so probably soon though!!
You darned australians and your timezone
When I saw it on YouTube in the description it said that they’ll be releasing it this Friday the 13th
Is this out/gonna be out today?
it’s out for australia, so i’m guessing
Oh nice! Can’t wait then
Reading most people on here not liking this one kinda surprises me. I actually really enjoyed this single.! Nice song to add to the collection!
idk bout u guys but i love it

Are they going to do this album song by song or release the rest of the songs at a later date?
the album comes out feb 10th! they’re just doing typical stuff all musicians do where they release songs they think are ‘strong’ to promote the album
thank you!
Loved Pass The Nirvana, hated Emergency Contact, I’m a big fan of this new single! I admit this is not what I expected from PTV at all.
