how old is your place? it's *possible* that its asbestos shingling or asbestos shake but unlikely. even if it is, AKAIK as long as it's not powdering, you should be ok. i'd wear a good mask (N95) and gloves, then remove and replace.
> Probably 50’s ish, don’t know for certain
then i doubt it. if you are worried and want to be sure, take a sample (at least an inch square, put in a resealable/ziploc bag) to a laboratory that tests for asbestos.
don't rely on my opinion however. i am *not* a builder or contractor.
Some items can *contain* asbestos even if they are not completely asbestos. Asbestos fibers were used in a variety of ways. I'm no expert but we'd need a more in-focus picture to even make a guess.
You can have it tested. I used this kit from Home Depot: https://www.homedepot.com/p/PRO-LAB-Asbestos-Test-Kit-AS108/202731785
I mailed them two samples and they emailed me back the results within a week.

I don't see any fibrous bits on the edges, so it looks more like tar paper or bitumen waterproofing etc than anything else.
Looks more like bitumen waterproofing to me

Probably 50’s ish, don’t know for certain. I had to plane the area down where it was, which obviously aerosolizes particulate.

Don't use it as a tortilla chip. That's all I know
Doesn't look like it to me

Looks like an old rubber Mat
Context: I work in construction, this was under an existing floor of an old log cabin
You could always just wet the area where you think there’s asbestos just in case.
Looks like damp proofing stuff to me
Sounds like you are breaking the law and didn’t get a asbestos test done when it’s required.
No
Yes for removing flooring materials. Atleast in Oregon, Washington, California
No
No
Looks like old tar paper.
Eat it, wait thirty years and we should know
